December, 2018
Student name: Jane
Prompt: Stamina runs
Response: Jane enjoyed PE. The outdoors was her life, it was where rocks were and therefore, it was where she thrived. Hiking, climbing, making the most of her surroundings to find any sort of rock. Along with Lilly, it was her passion. Running came with spending so much time outdoors. It was a finders keepers sort of environment, and she wasn't about to let anyone find the best rocks first.

Which was why running a few laps was a piece of cake. She ran from one end of the wall, touched it, and went to the next in the straightest line possible. It wasn't as fun as being outside with nature. The gym's floor was flat and hard, unlike the uneven and sometimes grassy paths that she took outside. But it was still a way to get her mind blank, to rid of the pent up extra energy from her other classes. By the thirteenth lap, she started to slow down. Sixteenth, it started to hurt to breath. But she still completed two others before her legs finally decided to give out.

December, 2018
Student name: Ezekiel
Prompt: Stamina runs
Response:
Pushing others to do his bidding and bullying people in a corner--that was what Zeke was good at. Intimidation, fear, manipulation. Running in the gym was nothing of that. It was pure stamina, pure athletic ability.

Zeke didn't bully with brute strength. He could barely lift himself out of bed. And running? Why would he ever need to run when he already controlled most of the people in his life? True power came from not running.

Yet he was expected to run. He rolled his eyes as the PE teacher looked at him expectantly as the other students went from one side to the other before slowly jogging to one far end, barely touching the line and then running back. Even taking his time he quickly started getting tired by the fourth lap. Could he give up? He tried walking, but the PE teacher gave a shout, pushing him back to a slow jog. The sixth lap had him yawning uncontrollably as his body tried getting more oxygen. He was about to collapse at the ninth but pushed on. One. More.

Finally, the teacher let him take a break at ten. He plopped down on one of the side benches and watched the other much more athletic students from the side. How embarrassing.

Student name: Hazan

x

Response: Hazan had made a b-line for the balance beam. When it was her turn she hoped on smoothly and began to cross. She didn't bother to do anything fancy as, technically, this was her first time on the beam. Hazan wobbled before instinctively sticking her arms out to help with her balance. She smiled as she got off at the other end and lined back up to try again. Hazan decided for her second go she would try dipping her feet out like what she had seen one of the other freshlings do. It was harder than it looked. Hazan had to take several more turns before she felt confident enough to move on to another task. By the end up the class, the Litch was able to proudly say she had mastered the balance beam. At least she had at the freshling level. Maybe she'll come back to it the next time they did gymnastics.

Student name: Niamh
Prompt: Stamina runs
Response:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Niamh's eyes rose when she was told she had to run across the gym over and over, until she could not run anymore. She eyed the gym, and sighed, then began to stretch out, not wanting to pull any muscles... Sathe had taught her that, and she really appreciated her best friend teaching her that, because it had saved her a lot of pain lately. After that, she began her runs. She started slow, making each back and forth lap at a jogging pace, but with each lap she got faster, until she got to her fifth lap back and forth, when she hit her full speed. She made it at full speed up to her twelfth lap, and then she felt herself flagging, so she began to slow down again as she worked her way through the thirteenth and fourteenth lap, coming to a stop when she finished, back where she started. She walked over to the teacher, panting, and logged her laps, then headed to the showers, sweating but proud of herself.

April, 2019
Student name: Rosalie
Prompt: Stamina runs
Response: Rosalie was not envious of the other students in her year that had to run more than she did. Even at the best of times, Rosalie wouldn't consider herself active. So, when she pulled the number of laps she'd be doing out of the gym, she was relieved to see that it was such a low number. She felt the gazes of other students on her, perhaps jealous that they were not as fortunate. Before anyone tried to come up to trade with her, as though that was even a thing, she sped off towards the other wall of the gym. She panted as she ran from one wall to the next. She went back and forth, back and forth and then once more before she headed off to a quiet corner to catch her breath. It was a good thing she wasn't going into a sporty career, Rosalie thought to herself, or else she'd surely fail at it.

Student name: Lalita
Prompt: Gymnastics
Response: Lalita crinkled her nose at the task given today in health and p.e. Gymnastics were tough. She could tell just by watching the other freshlings trying to do things, like that balance beam over to one side. It had looked easy at first until she’d seen someone fall right off the side of it. She didn’t want to fall a bunch today so instead she went over to a mat to try some tumbling moves, maybe a few cartwheels too. She kept at it for a while, trying for a straight cartwheel but each time she thought she’d got it right she ended up landing at an angle and she could tell it hadn’t been straight.

Lalita gave up on the tumbling mat and walked over to some rings set hanging from a bar. She reached up and grabbed them, swinging herself back and forth with her feet slightly over the floor. It was kind of like swinging on a swing seat but there was no seat and you used your hands to move back and forth instead of your feet. She didn’t stay on it long though, her arms started to get tired from holding herself up. All in all, not a bad class but not her favorite activity either. Lalita decided she didn’t want anything to do with gymnastics.

April 2019
Student name: Caper
Prompt: Stamina runs
Response:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Caper didn't care for his gym class. Getting sweaty and running around wasn't exactly how he was raised. That being said, the boy was rather thin (so much he had been asked before if he was a Litch hybrid once) and used to the antics of his girlfriend. They did so many fun things like strolls in the park and rollerblading, so there was no way he was exactly out of shape.

The junior gulped as the timer began to tick down. He already felt so wrong wearing his baggy gym clothes. Despite working up his courage, the sound of the ringer still caught him off guard, and he stumbled before catching up in pace with his classmates.

1... 2... 5... 8.... 10. He counted as his palm touched the cool wall on each side. Caper was gasping, his whole entire body heaving as he stumbled to a stop. He waved limply towards his partner, calling tally. Behind him, the footfall of his classmates let him know he wasn't the last man standing, but he took comfort in the group of Nightmares around him on the sidelines. While in his head he knew standing up tall was the best way to breathe, he slowly lowered himself to the ground and promptly pancaked, spreading out wide as he welcomed air into his lungs.

April 2019
Student name: Meline
Prompt: Gymnastics
Response:

To say Meline was an active child would be a gross overstatement. The sleepy hybrid watched quietly from the sidelines as the other students in her class began to tumble around, some doing cute toe touches, and others doing chaotic somersaults. "Ah," she simply murmured to herself, her antennae twitching as someone gently touched her shoulder. Hmm. Her teacher wanted her to participate.

Waddling out to an empty pad, Meline gingerly sat down. Rocking looked like something she could do? Pulling her tail tight to her chest, the girl slowly let herself recline backwards. The curve to her back gave her some momentum and she rolled and rolled back and forth. With a little courage, it wasn't long before she was popping over, landing on her knees as she finished the tumble. "Ah!" she exclaimed a bit more loudly this time, getting up to her feet with wobbly confidence. It wasn't nearly as impressive as what some of the others could do, but Meline was pleased with her own participation this fine day. Every else looked like they were having fun, and this sort of thing was way more interesting than the classroom where she usually had a hard time learning much at all!

June, 2019
Student name: Talia
Prompt: 13
Response: Exercise, one of the banes of Talia’s existence. She didn’t mind it per-se, but it certainly was boring, and she would have rather done it on a machine with her music player than having to do it in the Academy’s gym. But she wasn’t given the choice, and today it was time to run the gym as many times as they could until they collapsed or something apparently. Either way, it was not going to be fun for her, and she wasn’t that fast of a runner, so she was practically jogging from one side of the room to the other. She wouldn’t have been able to run at full speed though only going a few times before collapsing or needing to take a break from the rest of the period. But she did what she could, going from one wall to the other, and eventually, after doing it 13 times, she could no longer continue, and had to sit out until she could regain her breath again!

June, 2019
Student name: Marion
Prompt: Gymnastics
Response: Marion tripped once again on the mats and was starting to get mad. Why did they have to do gymnastics anyway? She would have preferred to do what the juniors and seniors were having to do. Running across the gym until you collapsed was way easier than… whatever this stuff was! It wasn’t like she would ever be into gymnastics anyway! She wanted to just sit there and watch everyone else. Heck, she would rather be doing jumping jacks or something! Instead all of the freshlings had to fight over all of the equipment and some didn’t even get to do what they wanted to. She had tried to go on the balance beam, just to try it out, when she had been pushed out of the way as other freshlings wanted to walk across it, when she was just trying to stay on the darn thing!

This wasn’t a fun class at all, and she would be happy when she was a junior or a senior and wouldn’t have to mess with this at all!

June, 2019
Student name: Jean Luc
Prompt: Gymnastics
Response: Jean knew that having good balance and being able to move around without tripping over would be a great thing as a detective. But here, and at school? He didn’t think that it was all that great. The teacher was barely paying attention, so even if someone did do something wrong, they wouldn’t be told how they could fix it or what else they could do or something different that they could try.

He had tried the balance beam a few times along with the rings, but he just didn’t have the strength and coordination built up to do anything that was actually any good. His huge arms/hands usually got in the way, so while he was a great runner, trying to maneuver his large appendages was more difficult. He couldn’t exactly fix it in one class session either, so he thought of the exercise as practically useless. Perhaps if they offered just gymnastic classes, then he would be willing to try to go to those instead!
