Ewan almost immediately stopped: caught in the surprise of hearing something so familiar. He listened to Slayer at least once a week, and it stopped him in his tracks to hear it here. He'd known that they were planning on using sound or music to bring the birds down... but not Slayer.

He glanced to Rob, and then let his eyes slide past -- the man involved in a passionate kiss, a "we survived" sort of kiss. And then he wandered over to sit next to Mal, letting his shoulders roll forward and his eyes slipped closed for a moment. "Damn," he said, a moment later. He didn't have much to say. "While I appreciate the Slayer, I just -- .. "

Mal nodded. He rolled his shoulders to unkink them and flexed his hands slowly. His hands and forearms ached, but the words was between his shoulderblades. "Here and now, it's one more bit of cognitive dissonance." Mal ignored Rob and the 'we survived!' kissing pretty easily.

He flexed his hands again and shook them, trying to shake out the cramps. He was sure there was going to be worse things coming. This was just a little too anticlimactic, perhaps, to be the end.

The sudden noise startled Zebulon enough that he suddenly swirled towards the origin and brandished the knife he had picked up threateningly.

A few more seconds went by before he realised that this was what he was waiting for. It was music. Harsh rock music, from the sounds of it, which seemed to be doing the trick outside. A peek out the window revealed birds flying about in odd patterns before simply tumbling down into the snow. It seemed like the idea to blast music down the mountain had worked fairly well...

But of course, then came the second part of all of this--the avalanche. Zebulon had never been in an avalanche, but he recognized the sound from videos he had watched on the internet well enough. He pulled his body in closer and backed away from the window, noting that the sound seemed to be getting very loud. Had the avalanche gone off course?

His thoughts slammed to a halt when he heard the snow hit the hotel, and he perhaps didn't breathe until it stopped and the hotel was still standing. They did it. The hotel was saved. For now. The avalanche apparently ended up where they were. How were they going to get out of here with all this snow against the --

Diryas' voice cut through Zebulon's thoughts, and he jogged off in the direction of his voice. "Dise!" It wasn't hard to locate Diryas all things considered, and once he did locate him, he wrapped him up in a hug. Instead of shouting enthusiastically like some others were doing, he just stayed silent, closing his eyes for the moment. Just take a few moments to breathe...

Her attention was drawn upwards, towards the staircase as she heard her name called. Turning, she was thrown from the weird daze she found herself in at the sight of Beth rushing down the steps. A wide smile broke her dour demeanor and she called back ecstatically, “Beth! Right here!” She laughed as she ran to meet her friend at the bottom of the steps and swept her up into a hug that was full of the mirth of being alive and the pain at losing more lives outside. “I’m so glad you’re alright!”

Beth's face brightened and she ran to meet Cat in the middle of the lobby, a collision of puffy jackets and limbs. She anchored herself in the woman's arms, her own reaching around to interlace with each other in a white knuckled grip. "I'm fine, there were other Chosen up there and if not for them I don't know...." She trailed off, enjoying the feeling of being safe and held. "I'm sorry I lost track of you." She didn't mention how she had darted back from the front lines to try and stay safe. She knew her friend; Cat would have stayed as far forward as possible, fighting to protect them. It burned her gut a bit to think that she had not been so brave.

Asher, a bit scratched up, the usual tousled curls of his hair turned into something else entirely: a tangled mess that was either going to take hours to work out or, perhaps, needed to be shorn entirely. Hopfeully not the latter.

He threw himself down next to Mal, stretching his legs out as he looked at the other man: just a sideways glance, head tipped to the side and weapon put away, for the time being. He looked at the mess of the walls, boards and mattresses and chairs and bedsheets keeping the place together. How it had withheld the force of an avalanche was a bit of a mystery.

"This is ridiculous." He said it without any care for whatever they'd been talking about before.

Beth's group hug and then subsequent departure brought more giggles to Misha's lips and she turned her head to watch the brunette dart away. Her hand had left Brian's cheek and rested on his shoulder in an absent gesture as if she had forgotten entirely. That girl was a hoot!

Before she could refocus on Brian, though, motion out of the corner of her eye caught her attention and she bit her lip, expression merry as hell while she unabashedly watched Sid and Rob exploring, er... Their relief. "Well, now," she murmured. "That's one way of making sure someone's in one piece, I guess."

She sent a saucy look to Brian, her hand leaving his shoulder finally so that her arm could wrap loosely around his waist. Instead of further elaborating or, perhaps, teasing him more directly about what she had just said, she called out, "Hey, you two! Get a room!"

Laughter undercut every word. Like she would ever be bothered by PDA? Never!

Tom wasn’t sure what had gone exactly. He had tried to fortify the hotel a bit but had only been able to gather a few supplies before being pulled back to help some more of the survivors. It helped him a bit in that he realized he really didn’t have a whole lot of experience with hammers and nails. Maybe he could get some tips back at the Prytaneum.

So unfortunately he hadn’t really been able to help his fellow chosen and had to tend to others. It almost seemed that there was a never-ending wave of them.

It was a bit of a shock when the avalanche hit the hotel finally. He wasn’t ready for it and was knocked off of the stool he was using. Luckily though he wasn’t working on a patient at that point so it was just him who got a bit hurt. He looked around a bit to see what had happened but it seemed as though the hotel was still standing.

At this point though he didn’t seem to have any others who needed his help, though he was sure that would change soon. But he got up and went over to make sure his fellow chosen were okay.

Mercy picked up her hammer, preparing to swing since she missed the first time and tripped the second time.

Apparently, she was doomed to just be remembered for her failure during the big fight...Where it ******** counted the most. Mercy's mood was quite sour even as everyone around her celebrated their victory over the metal monstrosities that had been tormenting these poor civilians. Instead of taking part in the victory celebrations and hugs, Mercy tried to make her way through everyone as quickly as possible, eyebrows furrowed in deep thought. How could she manage to mess up during this big battle when she was doing fine any other time?! s**t didn't make sense if you asked her.

Well...There wasn't much she could do about that right now anyway. What's done is done.

She didn't feel like crying or doing survival kisses...She looked to Rob and Sid with a smile, covering her face while she tried not to tease about how cute they looked.

Sylvia was still searching for any patches needed when something rumbled outside. A moment later it became clear that the speakers were finally working. Without thinking much of it, Sylvia ran to a window to try and peer out and see if it was working. The reinforcements they had been putting up all day were in the way of most windows, but she finally found a corner of one left open enough that she could see out. It was difficult to tell at first, but eventually she could see that the birds were falling, divots in the snow outside punctured by their heavy bodies. A grin spread across Sylvia’s face – until the secondary rumble started, and she remembered the secondary affect the music would have.

She turned back to run inside the hotel. She wasn’t sure what would be best to try and stay safe, but she figured that the inner structure was at least better than being on the edges. She looked for a corner in the hallway and hunkered down against it, waiting for the impact of the snow. A moment later, the walls shook – but nothing came crashing down. The walls were still around her. The hotel was still standing. She waited a moment to be sure, then stood up and went to assess damage and, hopefully, find some of the other Chosen and make sure that everyone was okay.

She heard cheering, and some people calling to find specific others. While Sylvia was worried about some of those she had already met, she couldn’t think to call anyone specifically – she was sure she would see them all in her rounds. She peeked into a few rooms and saw a lot of hugs going around, and even a kiss, but felt she might be intruding if she interrupted most of the celebrations happening. As she continued walking and checking rooms, she came across a tall brunette with a black cowboy hat who seemed to be sticking to the edges. Hadn’t she seen him tending to the injured earlier?

“Hey! Long day, huh?” She approached him and offered a smile, figuring that was as good a way as any to check in. “How are you holding up?”

Tara had flushed a bit to see the kiss--she remembered Rob had said his childhood friend was here as an Apollo Chosen, and well, Sid was the only Apollo Chosen Tara'd met thus far... seeing the embrace and the kiss, she immediately wondered if this was a one plus one equals two situation.

And um. Well. She was pretty sure she just interrupted a moment, regardless. "Sorry, bad timing," she mumbled, trying to keep her glum mood out of her voice--managing pretty well actually. She did manage to laugh--genuine, harder--when she heard Misha calling out at them to get a room. Ok, so at least Tara's eyes weren't deceiving her here.

When Rob opened an arm towards her, she hesitated a little, feeling horrible for breaking up a moment. But she moved over towards them, putting an arm around Rob and Sid both, giving tight hugs to the two of them. "So glad you guys are alright. That was insane." She was trying to not focus on the horrible reality. Trying, instead, to focus on the fact they won and they'd survived, and there were people in the hotel alive because they'd been able to help them. That was a far, far better portion of reality to focus on at the moment.

"Silly, you weren't interrupting," Rob reassured as he pulled Tara into an embrace. He suddenly heard a call for he and Sid to "get a room" and he grinned at Misha. "Oi! We're not doin' nothin' here!" he teased back with a laugh. Of course not! They were all just celebrating the victory over the Stymphalian birds and their own survival each in their own way. He knew Misha realized that by the laughter in her words.

Turning his attention back to Tara, he planted a kiss on her forehead. "Yeah, that was completely insane. But we won, and we saved a lot of people, and the birds are dead. And we survived." He squeezed her shoulders and kissed the top of her head. The knowledge that they couldn't save everyone, that some had surely been killed either by the birds or by the avalanche, hit him, and his expression sobered a bit. Collateral damage. But that happens in war -- and that was what this was.

Then out of the corner of his eye he spotted a familiar curly-haired head trying to sneak out of the room unseen, and he brightened again. "Oi, Mercy, where you going? Free hugs bein' offered here!" he grinned.

Tom was a bit surprised when he was addressed, but looked over at the woman who talked to him and smiled a bit. “It has been long. A lot of stuff to do in a short amount of time, I’m definitely going to have to take a nap after this.” He turned towards her now. “I’m fine though, I’ve had pretty long shifts before of constant patients so I’ve been able to handle it for a bit.”

He didn’t remember talking to this woman before. “This probably isn’t the greatest time to get acquainted, but I’m Tom Wolf.” He said, holding out his hand to her and giving her a bigger smile.

They watched Beth rush off together, and then Brian's attention was captured by Misha again. She had spoken, and he couldn't help but turn in the direction of the romantically-engaged pair. Well, no... to be fair, that was more likely an adrenaline-filled relief kiss, but it was fine either way. He'd much rather deal with a public kiss than a fist fight.

Misha turned back to him and slung her arm around his hip. He shot her a wink and a smile for the implications that her glance held. He felt slightly-out-of-character for himself, but really what did it matter in the long-term? All of this was insane. They'd run through a magical fire to fight literal metal birds and won (at least temporarily) by blasting metal at them. There was nothing "regular" about this world he had been thrust into, and for the moment that didn't matter.

When the dreadlocked kid yelled to Misha, he only laughed and raised a hand in greeting. Why didn't it feel awkward?

He turned back to Misha, his expression serious.

"Don't get any funny ideas," he said, and then broke out into a smile. Clearly he was teasing. he looked up and around the room as his arm also slipped down to Misha's back. There were no ulterior motives behind it, clearly, but he was comfortable enough in her presence to let it happen. "So. Do you think we're going to have to grab the shovels?" He could hear the walls groaning slightly in protest. Hopefully the worst of it was over, though.
