Amory had little use for the Academy's winter celebration. Last year she had spent the entirety of the festival alone in her room studying architecture of all things, and as much as she enjoyed gifts and all manner of physical possessions, she hadn't minded missing all of this in favor of learning.
Okay, fine. Maybe she was itching for some new swag this year, though she would never admit it.
The main reason why she was here at all, however, was the arrival of the Daydreams. Once upon a time, her people had been new to Asphodel as well, but for Amory that wasn't the same thing at all. These people were from Above. She couldn't even fathom what they might be like, and the blank spot in her mind where all the possibilities failed to materialize bothered her no end.
Unfortunately, any expression of interest on her part guaranteed that she would be forced to take Ellis along, and the imp was a font of questions as always. Amory walked alongside him, examining her new stocking and sucking on a pale purple candy cane.
"This is so cool!" the freshling enthused. In addition to a stocking and a pretty glowing necklace, Ellis had also been given a giant Kidden almost as tall as he was. He trotted to Amory's left, double-irised eyes wide in the hope that he wouldn't miss a thing. It was his first winter solstice, and the imp was enthralled.
"Do you think they'll have hot choc'late?" Dad had told him there would be some, and he already loved the regular kind. Liquid chocolate could only be better.
He had been away for a long time. A loooooooooong time. Sidney had been absolutely certain that upon his return he wouldn't be allowed back into school, let alone his dorm, but Arkham had welcomed him cheerfully, enrolling him in new classes without a word of complaint. Just in time for winter solstice.
The geist clung to the shadows despite his garish coloration, grinning broadly at everyone who passed. It was all right up his alley, the lights, the snacks, the ambiance. At least for now, Sidney was happy.
Aw, well it certainly was a cute little familiar. She leaned in to get better look at the little fellow and at the same time her little flitterat friend sniffed in it's direction as well. Though it seemed her little familiar wasn't interested in the salamander. Ah well, that might be fore the better. "Must have...it's pretty adorable anyway. The fact they were in punch just sort of makes them ten times more adorable..." Although, still not good for the punch and the people drinking it. Should they say something....?
She caught sight of something fun behind Gaius though, and it took her attention from the new addition to their little party. "Ah look! There's a little fun house over there. We should walk through it!" It looked like it promised a random prize at the end for everyone as well. It also promised caroling! It was be a nice way to get into the Holiday spirit for sure!

Well, it seemed like Ganymede had made a decision. Foras couldn't lame him, he's chose Alioth over someone who was just a friend as well. He shrugged his shoulders, trying not to care that the two were remaining behind for a little bit. Maybe that would give Gany a chance to make a move anyway! He'd probably be far to shy to try anything in front of another couple...
"Well, we'll have a seat over there if you all feel like joining us!" They had been walking around for some time and sitting down to enjoy their cocoa seemed like a wonderful idea. They order rather quickly and Foras pulled Alioth over to one of the bench tables where she unloaded all oh his prizes so far and took a seat.
"I hope you're have a goo--" He was cut off when he felt something soft hit the back of his head and he turned around to view the plushie on the ground. Was someone shooting these through a cannon? Just how many of them were there? It seemed he couldn't even sit down to enjoy some cocoa without being pelted by one!

Conan's tail wagged behind him, like a mind of it's own, as he recieved the first hug and then a second from Cherubi. His check flushed a brighter purple color, but at least Cherubi was blushing as well. Her blush had to be the cutest things however. As she asked if he would accompany her for the festival he looked back to Nott and his sister, armed with their enchanted snowball.
"Ah, nope. I'm not hanging out with anyone. We should....go get some cocoa~!" And like that, he swept Cherubi away before she could get pelted with said snowball. He did manage a small wave toward his sibling and her girlfriend before standing in line to get cocoa.
Those were... quite the interesting names Perigor had chosen... but they definitely suited him. And potentially the pets, if any of his pumpkas were like the two new... whatever those were. Too vicious to be chickens... "I see. Thet is a lot of pets, you must spend a lot of time caring for them... it is nice, yes?" He tilted his head slightly, studying the demon-litch hybrid for a moment. "I do not hev eny yet, though perheps thet will chenge in the future." He shrugged a little, and then stepped into the first gingerbread house. The aroma was... well... overpowering. He folded his arm over his face to mask a small sneeze, and then dug around in a pocket for a handkerchief to rub his nose... There. Much better.
"Hm... We are not so... loud, in our celebretions et home." He shook his head. Honestly, Solstice was a quiet time in his village, except for the dat after, like Ustule had said. "My village does the same. We come together the dey efter end sing together, end there is prayer to the Nine es well. End, we do have a village Solstice log, end a tree thet we all decorate, but it is small, so thet the children cen reach eet. On the night of Solstice, we come together to the mein... hm." He trailed off, trying to think of the word... Honestly it was hard sometimes to use the language down here instead of the one native to his particular village...
"Temple? Yes, temple. We go to the temple end have a big eh... Potluck. Feast. Sometimes on very cold yeears we stey together overnight in the temple, it is much warmer thet wey." He sighed, feeling a sudden, harsh spike of homesickness rise in his gut. He missed his family. He missed his house. He missed his village.
Histel's description of how his family celebrated was fairly interesting to him... why pour wine on the log? Wasn't that a waste? What was the meaning behind it? Perhaps there would be a book in the library about it... Or maybe in one of the stacks of books being passed out by the librarians here. Hm. "Thet sounds very interesting, Histeol... I wonder what the purpose of the wine is." He paused to accept a green bulb necklace as they exited the first house, then continued on to the next one. His necklace sort of reminded him of Histeol..... Alright, he supposed he'd keep the orange one too and they'd just be silent reminders of two of his friends.
"Thet is very kind of you to offer... If it is eccepted, I would like to do thet, I think. I am surprised thet the Ecedemy does not hev their own tree if the city does... Very strange."

...All of that stressing out was for nothing?! They were going to get hot cocoa after all!?!?! Internally he was screaming with frustration, though it was probably obvious from the way his tendrils flared momentarily that something was upsetting him. He managed to curb his facial expression before it got too sour, at least. Nine above, why was that so difficult... He managed a smile at Chries, and allowed himself to be tucked up against him. Normally he'd shove him away- or well, anyone who wanted to get that close- but this was... Nice. Very nice. Chries was soft and warm and well. He was cold. Very cold. "Thank you.. We can go back to the darts after, if you want?" He followed along, mind lost in thought again until they got to the table.
Gods. Alioth was really getting on his nerves. He might just have to break the pleasant act and ditch these two at this rate. It was probably starting to annoy even Anchriesel, who was normally so easy-going... Eugh. Yeah, he'd have to ditch them. Ah well. He was distracted from his internal grumblings when he was handed a cup of cocoa. Sweet, sweet cocoa. Liquid warmth. He sipped at it, then realized somewhere along the line, Chries had wandered off. Worriedly, he looked around, just in time to see him when he came back.
With. A. Flitterat.
It was adorable. His markings immediately lit up in a display of glee, even though his expression barely changed from neutral-- a slight widening of his eyes and quirk of a smile. "It's. Adorable. I love flitterats - where did you find it?" Where there was one, there was bound to be more. Maybe he could get one...

Corben happily accepted his hand, giving it a small squeeze of confirmation. "Leif hates it too, he's very small, you see. Gets lost in crowds very easily." He nodded, still smiling as he looked around for a good cocoa stand... Aha! "Well! I think I've spotted a good place to get some! Right this way, Xenophon. Or should I call you Xeno? You can call me Corben, if you like!" He started off, making sure to keep his pace at a reasonable one for Xenophon to keep up with.
"I didn't even know they had an obstacle course... How was that? It sounds like a lot of fun." Corben giggled a bit at the mental picture of Jurvik trying to get through an obstacle course wearing his kilt... Oh boy. He settled into line, waiting for their turn to get cocoa. While they were waiting, an attendant came through to pass out some candycanes. "Want one?" He looked down to Xeno, holding one of them up.
When the portals had been opening for travel from Above to Below, Winterbloom had been the first in her family to claim she wanted to go to the Below for schooling. Dryads encouraged a lot of moving around before settling down, and what better way to do so than to visit a whole other -world- basically. She had decided to attend Leviathan and all the students in the Academy and surrounding universities had been invited to a rather big event at the Academy.
Not only was it in celebration of the Winter Solstice, but it was also a welcoming party of sorts for her fellow daydreams. She had to say it was pretty exciting, even if she had to stop and answer dozens of questions all the time. She didn't really mind and she had lots of questions for the Nightmares as well. Honestly, she had been a bit nervous at first. But everyone around here seemed pretty nice so far!

As Jezebeth wandered around the festival she found a booth booth that required your to scoop up a little fish in order to win a prize. The prizes were skyfish though! Such cute little critters. She already had two of her own, Gypso and Bamboo, but one more wouldn't hurt! One day she knew she'd have a big garden where they could grow to their hearts content.
It took her a couple of tries, and re-entering the line a couple of times, before she finally landed herself an adorable new familiar. They were just the cutest thing. Anyone who disagreed with her could just take their opinion else where. She had the perfect name for the little fellow as well. "Poinsettia shall be your name. I'm sure you'll get along with Gypso and Bamboo perfectly."
As Nilima made her way further into the fesitival she found a mirror maze that was giving away prizes at the end to people who made it through. It was mostly random, but also based on how quickly you made it through. Nilima decided to give it a shot, a free prize was a free prize after all. She might have fun into a few mirror here and there....but she felt like she made a decent run in the end. She was handed a really cute snowglobe that had a snowmare scene in the middle of it. That looked like fun! She wondered if there might be somewhere that she could make a snowmare...!

Sprout's wings flared out the slightest, smacking into the back of the student beside them. They apologized quickly, attention swiveling back to Verve. "I love performing," the Fallen all but gasped, leaning up onto their toes. "I'm not much a singer though, I try and stay away from musicals." Nothing about Verve seemed negative at all. This was awesome.
At the mention of the Daydreams, Sprout nodded a little. They hadn't seen any either. "I don't blame them," is what the Junior decided on. "I love exploring but to go between Above and Below? Pass." The Fallen licked their lips, chasing away the thought. Sprout was really not into politics. Before they could suggest anything else, Verve was speaking to something. Sprout blinked, grinning. "How'd you do that?!" the green-eared Nightmare asked, expression bright. The familiar had popped up out of nowhere! Behind their back, Sprout pocketed another one of the light up necklaces.
Arya looked pleased when Piper accepted his offered name and he gave a smile. "He is! He's really calm too so he don't mind that I ride him, and he's green!" He said happily. He was always happy to talk about his fox friend and could probably go one for a while if he wasn't interrupted by a staff member dropping a purple bulb over his head.

Nikora smiled brightly at Charmstar, glad he liked the candy. "Welcome!" She said then looked over at Malachi when he got a toothy bird. "Try to give it food?" She sujested and when Charm stepped behind her she puffed her chest out. Thankfully Malachi's mom took it away before any of the freshlings tried to feed the familiar candy.
She grinned when Hailey said it was her and Charm's turn to pick a game and she tok Charm by the hand. "How about that one!" She pointed to a booth with more plush toys and trinkets. It didn't take long for her to have a plush on her head and she was passing a snow globe to Charmstar.

The cat plush had been too cute to pass up so Caelan had played the game at the booth and won it.
"It seems we are evenly matched," the chimera said casually, resting the hammer's head against her shoulder. Mytrax took another gulp from the cider and she swung down. Red eyes stared at her score and, with the same practiced casualness declared, "I wouldn't have any qualms upping the number to three out of five."
The familiar was getting annoyed at being knocked off the chimera's shoulder with each swing and started squawking at them. Mytrax ignored it. Which caused the toothy bird to flap about and try to bite at her hair. The glare she gave the familiar was accompanied with a growl of her own.

"Awww, but you don't got probs with jammin' to music though, right?" the chimera asked hopefully. "I love musicals, whether watching or being in one. Something about the idea that your heart is just so filled up with this feeling that talking ain't enough. And you don't care if your singing cracks glass, you just can't help but break out into song about it," at this, the chimera's wings spread open for dramatic emphasis, accidentally smacking into one or two passersby.
She sheepishly apologized and the skyfish bobbed up and down in mimicry of its new owner. When she turned back to face the fallen, Verve made the hmmm-ing sound and pose again. "I dunno, maybe it's the antlers. Or my funky shades. Or both!" She laughed, unconcerned about how she managed to attract it. "Do you want it? My vespercat might try to eat it," she explained.

"I like snowglobes more than actual snow~" the chimera said, shaking her globe a little roughly. "Snow makes it haaaard to fly in and if you're out flying in it long enough your wings can freeze!" Her wings instinctively tucked behind her as she said this.
A beat. "What kind of music do you play?" she asked, eyes darting to the violin case the daydream was carrying.
Totally enamored with his new little friend, Gaius could only just barely nod in agreement with Eilwen's complimenting on the precious thing.
When the chimera's attention was torn elsewhere, the geist managed to look up and follow the trail path that her eyes had zeroed in on. Oh that did look cool... Carefully tucking the salamander into his sweater, beneath his collar, he turned to kite around the table, "Let's go check it out, then." he assured. Maybe there were more plants to be gathered there, too! it took a great deal for him to not pop by that other booth that was filled with them to pluck up another. Surely the owner of the booth was starting to notice how quickly they were going... right?

Aeon shivered at the thought of snow "I don't mind chilly night temperatures, but ice and snow are not my friend." She flapped her fey wings "That kind of weather hurts my wings, I don't like snow and ice at all" she frowned. Then smiled again when the subject changed to her music. "I play violin, mostly classical, but I'm trying to learn the more modern upbeat violin pieces, but I still have a long way to go before I master them."
Amihan angled her head to stare at Aeon's wings, as if noticing them for the first time. "Your wings are ~different~ from ours and those of a fallen's. They look very pretty but also kinda delicate. Can I touch them? I promise I'll be gentle~" she asked with a pleasant, if somewhat curious, smile.
She nodded at the fay's explanation about their music, though Ami wasn't familiar with what daydreams considered classical (or what nightmares considered classical come to think about it.) Regardless, it sounded fascinating to someone who wasn't very musically inclined and was, in certain circumstances, rhythmically challenged such as she. "Could you maybe play something? I'd love to listen~"

Aeon blushed when Ami asked to touch her wings, Aeon had never had anyone ask to touch her wings, and it sounded like a very personal thing. Aeon didn't want to disappoint Ami so she said "Ok just please be gentle" she said nicely, still a bit nervous about Ami touching her wings.
Once Ami was finished touching her wings, Aeon pulled out her violin and began to play a piece that sounded like a "Do you hear what I hear" though the words were different, and based off a daydream Solstice story.
Charmstar tucked away the bit of information about Hailey even as he huddled behind Nikora. He knew he was right in not trusting that familiar! He released a grateful sigh when the cage was taken away and positioned himself beside Nikora instead of behind her. "Yay! That booth doesn't have evil, bitey familiaws as pwizes!" he said happily.
His purple eyes widened as Nikora handed him a snowglobe, "Thank you~" he stared into it as the flakes settled at the bottom, "They'we building a snowmawe! Wanna twy doing that aftew the festival?" He asked the trio. "I can ask my cawetakew to bwing some clothes and stuff!"

As she promised, Amihan was gentle in her tactile inspection of the fay's wings. It was definitely unlike anything she'd ever touched and she wondered how she would teach a daydream freshling or junior how to fly with those kinds of wings in her class. Still, she couldn't spend the whole festival touching a stranger's wings even if she wanted to, and pulled her arm back after thanking Aeon.
She listened to the music and closed her eyes, allowing the melody to wash over her. It was lovely and Ami wished she knew more about the world of music so she could properly identify which parts of the song elicited certain emotions from her. When the fay finished, the chimera (and the small crowd that had gathered to listen) began to applaud. "That was lovely~"

Cassie was wearing her thick sweater, the gaudy faux-fur around the corner tickling her chin. It was festive and while she had all but run away from the Academy upon graduation, she couldn't help but swing in just to view the festivities. She was also kind of curious about the Daydreams and eager to learn as much as she could, the Fallen quietly hoped a few would be at the Academy enjoying the evening too.
Wandering about, a table of freebies caught her eye. Books. Her eyes went a bit wide, looking over the covers. Of course the trashy romance novel caught her eye, and Cassie slowly took it up into her hands. Was this kind of thing appropriate to have in their home? She didn't think Rhys should be reading (or be exposed) to this kind of stuff, but then again her private life behind doors was also something else.... clearing her throat, Cassie slipped the free book into her bag. At least the Academy still seemed to value offering their students an array of perspectives.
Walking down the path with their hot mug, Ziron began to begin their search for someone to give something to. Now who could they pick? Surely a daydream would like being welcomed to the below by being given something, but they couldn't see one at the moment. Not only that, but the librarian came by again and handed them yet another book.
Lazarus ( 20 )
Heading to the next stand finally, he began to look for which globe he wanted from here. There was so much to pick from, and to be honest most of them he wanted. The key word here was wanted, since a few of them were not exactly his taste. Not long after though, he decided on a globe that he liked most.
Yihad ( 18 )
Yihad felt bad for the plants out here when hu saw them as prizes. How could they possibly stand the cold right now? Even hu was having problems with it right now. Determined, Yihad made hus way to one of the game stands, ready to find humself a plant. After dominating hus throws and knocking down the pins, hu picked out a plant with a red pot. It would match hus room nicely.
Vivek ( 5 )
After winning a prize and putting on his necklace, Vivek noticed a small familiar hiding from everyone and trying to stay warm. Poor thing. Maybe he could convince it to come with him? Being gente, he made his way over and offered up some food he had for it ", Hello, I can keep you warm and safe if you want me to?"
Seeing the food, the little flitterat came running over to Vivek and nibbled from his hand, allowing Vivek to hold and carry it around. This made Vivek really happy. Another familiar he could keep safe, it just made him really really nice and excited to take care of them.
Somansh ( 19 )
Seeing more plants she could get, Somansh just couldn't help but try to get those too. Green life was one of her favorite things, and it helped her to remain calm. Playing a game that involved throwing beanbags into a snowmen's mouth, in its hat, or in one of its 'buttons', she ended up getting it in its mouth. That meant she won not only a plant, but another plushie as well, and a big one at that.
Jacintha ( 12 )
Having been playing with her new friend for quite some time, she decided the two of them needed a hot drink, preferably hot chocolate. The two waited in the line for what seemed like a long time, Jacintha having a hard time remaining still. Could the line go faster? She did end up getting her drink, along with a mug to go with it. That was worth the wait she guessed.
Coralie ( 4 )
Time to try some games to get into the spirit. She noticed a lot of students were doing so, and she didn't want to seem like the odd one out. She ended up at a snowmen throwing game, only to do worse than the previous nightmare who had managed to get a HUGE plushie. However, she did manage to get it in one of the buttons, winning a light up bulb necklace. It could of been worse right?
Aqua'glow ( 5 )
Receiving a mug with a hot drink, Aqua'glow was enjoying herself when she felt something looking at her, turning to see a kidden eyeing her drink. Hmm... she wasn't about to give her drink away, but she didn't want the kidden to remain without a drink as well. After getting another drink, she brought it over to the kidden to drink. With that being done, she couldn't stop the familiar from following her. Well, she had a new companion.
