This time it payed off! Talitha had worked extremely hard. She hated how failing made her feel. So this time she wasn't playing any games. The geist knew her flash cards forwards and back. She knew the exact definition of all of their vocabulary words, and all of the important historians were right on the tip of her tongue. Talitha didn't want to be too cocky, so she triple checked her answers and was one of the last people to turn in the test. After she did she waited in the hallway, fidgeting with her sweater. Her tendrils flicked quickly in her worry. The grades were posted and.. "YES!" She fist pumped the air and grinned. She finally got it right! "Haha." Talitha was so happy that this time her hard work paid off.

Finnley groaned at the idea of a quiz. Social studies was definitely not his strong point and he hadn’t studied any lately. He worked through the quiz, slowly, and finally turned it in after almost everyone else was done. When he got the test paper back, the score made him frown. It was rather low, lower than he thought he might get, but at least it was passing. He supposed he’d take it over a failing grade anyday — even if it was really close to failing anyway.

Stereotypes... Anara growled a little at the subject, shaking her head back and forth. She didn't like this subject, but then again, she didn't like most subjects. She picked up her pen and started scribbling the first thing that came to mind.

A harmful stereotype is concerning the 'mutants' born around Hallow's Eve. A lot of the stereotypes regarding us is that we're inferior or somehow harmful to society, which isn't true. A lot of people who meet me think that I'm out to hurt them, they'll avoid me like I'm some sort of plague, or otherwise pretend I don't exist. This is very hurtful to a lot of people who just want to be treated like they're the same as everyone else.

To change the stereotype, would be a hard thing to do in the first place. You'd have to change the attitudes and minds of everyone in society. It's definitely not something that is easy and would take years and years of turning people from their prejudice. The first thing would be to teach people that we are the same as everyone else and that what they're doing, even if they don't think they're outright against us, is hurting. We'd need to teach them that ignoring who is in front of you is just as bad as giving in to the hate and lending someone a hand, even if they look different than you, can go a long way to helping someone stand up and feel like they have a purpose.

Anara knew that her subject was a little heavy handed and that there was no simple answer on how to fix it, but she hoped the paper would shed some light to the ordeal plaguing those like her.

Meliae had spent the passed couple of days studying for the test and she hoped it would be easy enough. However, when she got her test scores back she couldn't help but frown. She wasn't sure how she had done that badly, and felt terrible that she had to retake it.

She drew in a breath, apparently Social Studies wasn't her best subject. Perhaps she needed to study more than she thought and put more effort into getting this test done right.

Meliae decided that she was going to push out all other distractions. She'd get this test done and get a good score on it, even if it killed her. She took her time over each question, questioning herself on every answer she gave until she was sure it was right. She knew she'd pass this time! She had to.

Lorek chewed nervously on his nails. He hoped that he did well on his test though he couldn't be too sure until he got the score back. The wait was the worst part. When the teacher approached him with his paper he felt his heart sink when he saw the score. A 2? How did he get that bad of a score...

Lorek still wasn't feeling all that great about his possible score on the retake. When he got his paper back, he knew he was going to be in trouble with his mom. He passed, but he was sure he was in for it with a score like that... Maybe she wouldn't ever find out?

So they were supposed to get back the scores on their tests. Atoris wasn't all that surprised to find that he had just barely failed. It seemed like a lot of other kids weren't doing so hot on their tests either. So he'd have to take it again, oh well. He was sure his sister wouldn't find out, and if she asked he'd just tell her he passed. It wasn't like she was his mother.

Well, maybe it was his lackadaisical approach that had practically screwed him when it came to retaking this test. So he'd just take it again until he finally did pass. At least he was trying, right?

It was finally his third try that landed him the pass, though, to be honest, the score still wasn't all that great. Oh well, it really didn't bother him all that much. He'd just keep studying, he was bound to get better, right?

Keriga had completely doubted himself when it came to the test, he looked over everything carefully, trying to spot any mistakes he had made. He still hadn't felt all that confident when turning it in, sure he had missed something. When he received his score he was completely taken by surprise at how well he had done.

Maerad really, really didn't like tests. She seemed to be doing badly at each test she took, and it was really so wonderful that the teachers were very forgiving. She sheepishly turned in her test to the teacher. Some of the answers weren't even filled out. "Can I try again later?" she asked, her eyes welling up a bit.

When she went back for her second attempt, Maerad did much better. She didn't get anything close to an A, but it was a passing grade. When she turned in the quiz, she quietly thanked the teacher. She would have to start studying more!

Shinobu looked over the prompt and he frowned. Stereotypes... Being a mutant, he knew all about that. He knew what it was like to be different, and to be treated poorly in result. He picked up his pencil and started writing a response.

'A few examples of harmful stereotypes... My best example could be myself. Many people think I'm a freak or that I'm scary because I'm a "mutant", and it's very hurtful to me. And I've seen more "normal" Nightmares avoid other "mutants" because they don't understand them. I've also been treated delicately and differently because I'm not only a "mutant", but I'm mute. I've had people treat me like an infant, and some have treated my inability to speak as an invitation to "playfully" tease me because "if I don't say anything, it must be okay". It's not, and it hurts.

Stereotyping is harmful not only to the ones being lumped into a stereotype, but it hurts the person doing the stereotyping, because it results in the teased thinking the one doing the teasing is a bully. The way to get away from this is communication and understanding. We all just have to be willing to listen.'

Satisfied, Shinobu put his pencil down and got to his feet to turn in his paper. He felt good about his answer, but he didn't know if he was being too open about his personal life. Hopefully, he would be able to use himself as a good example.
