User ImageNiru entered the academy with such grace that he practically floated into the room. He had not visited this place for quite some time, and for good reason. It always smelled like sweat in here, with the shinigami training away. However, he needed to brush up on his kidou, and this was the place to do it.

He looked around, in moderate annoyance, trying to find a place to train away from the lesser people here, dressed in their silly black robes. They all looked the same, and it was so boring.

Niru wore a highly decorative kimono, with butterflies stitched into the silk fabric. His shirt was somewhat more of a tunic or even a dress, though the ensemble looked perfect on him. all of his clothes did. He wore a pair of form-fitting tights to complete the look, all of his clothes without fraying or stains, as if they had been sewn yesterday. He truly looked head-and-shoulders better than everyone here, and he knew it.

After a few tense moments, he found a spot where he could have a little privacy and went to work, performing the familiar hand gestures. He was rusty at kidou, and it took a few seconds to get his reishi to do what he wanted. He had been slacking, this much he already knew. He abhored the mindless grind of shinigami life, and had been spending his time at the tea house instead, sipping tea and socializing with the beautiful people there. Of course, he went to the nice tea house, in the nice part of Rukongai. He would never be caught in the poor districts. He had spent enough time there in his youth.

Tatakai takes a little time before answering Nara. “Well, I have not met him in person. However, the division is running well and getting its work completed, so as far as I can tell, he has been a good fit and well suited for his position.” He gives his answer almost like a report, speaking as formally as possible even in this fairly informal meeting. He also delivers his answers while pretty much standing at attention, with straight posture and no muscle in his body relaxed. He then takes notice at the others who have entered and went off in their own directions to train. He doesn’t recognize any of them. None of them are 11th division, nor are any of them captains or vice captains. He turns back to Nara to see what she thinks of his fairly standard answer.

User Image"You can relax, you know. I'm not gonna punish you for being too casual with me. Ever." Nara said, kindly. She hated when people treated her like a superior, despite her rank. It reminded her of how people used to act around her uncle; as if they could be punished for stepping out of line. Aarendor may have been one to punish his lesser, but Nara didn't even consider other shinigami her inferiors, no matter their rank. It was through mostly luck that she had found herself the Vice Captain of her division, and authority is not something she wished to weild. She much preferred to be treated as a peer by her peers.

"Now. Did you come here to deliver paperwork, or are you here to train? I could use a training partner." She said, with a warm smile. She knew she was at a huge disadvantage when it came to spellcraft. In this place, she was little more than a fledgling shinigami, learning the ropes.

Tatakai shakes his head at her. “This is me relaxed. Or at least, as relaxed as I get. I am sorry if it bothers you.” He tries to relax more, but it is a very awkward looking process, and does not actually change much about his posture.
“I did just come to deliver the paperwork, but if you want a training partner, I would be glad to help. Although my particular strengths are not in the area of the kido arts. I never studied beyond the basics covered in the academy during training. However, I offer whatever help I may be to your training.”

User ImageSeeing Tatakai try and act casual was enough to elicit a laugh from the Vice Captain of 10th Division. Very little changed about him but that he looked uncomfortable.

"I see. You looked more relaxed before."

She listened as he explained that he had no skill in the kidou arts. This was something Nara could sympathize with. She was also pretty terrible at kidou, which was why she had visited the academy in the first place. She had never been one to use much magic. She did most of her work with sword and shield. It was a rarity that she saw combat, but in such a case, she knew it would behoove her to widen her expertise to include the magics that other shinigami seemed to use so effortlessly. She leaned in a bit, as if letting Tatakai in on a secret, just between them.

"To be frank, I am terrible at kidou. Awful. Perhaps we could help each other learn?"

She didn't want Tatakai to feel as if he had to practice kidou with her, but training by herself was... unfulfilling. She would much prefer to train with a partner if he would have her.

Tatakai nods. “I have no problem being of help. I have always leaned towards the art of swordsmanship rather than kido, however I would be glad to help you train. Training is always good, no matter the type. It can also be good to train out of your comfort zone occasionally, so I wouldn’t mind a little kido training.” He looks around a little bit to see what the others might be practicing before looking back at the Vice Captain. “So what were you planning on practicing? I will just follow your lead and help however I can with it.”

User Image"Truth be told, I struggle with all forms of kidou. I thought I would practice my hadou today. The last time I saw combat, I couldn't do anything but stand there with my shield up."

This was mostly true. She had not made a single attack in her last battle. She had prevented attacks from damaging others, of course, but she knew that the best defense could often be a good offense. She couldn't merely function as a human shield every time she saw combat. She had to learn to deal some damage herself.

"If I want to be the best Shinigami I can be, I need to expand my repertoire of abilities. I can't play defense all the time."

She was unsure how to even train to learn kidou. She didn't want to just hadou this 11th division Shinigami into the ground, if she could even accomplish such a thing. In truth, she was more grateful for the company than anything. She didn't have much opportunity to socialize anymore, since her promotion to Vice Captain.

"I thought we could utilize the training dummies here. It's much safer than mindlessly throwing spells at each other..."

“That is fine by me, but it all depends on what you want to train. I myself have no actual goals with what kido I learn, so it is completely up to you.” He makes sure his katana is hanging securely and will not get in the way while he practices, as well as adjusting his gloves out of habit. He then waits for the Vice Captain to say what she wants to train in. He had very little interest in kido, much preferring to train in physical fighting techniques, but he was not going to say no if a Vice Captain asked for help with training.

Nara allowed a nervous smile to come to her face. She suddenly felt very obtrusive, like she was forcing this poor shinigami to train with her, by virtue of him outranking her.

"O-of course, you can leave if you want! I'm not making you train with me or anything!" She held her had up in a nervous gesture.

"I-I just thought it would be more efficient if I found someone to train with.... and Yuki..." Her mind went to Yuki, he best friend in the Seretei, if she could say she had any. She hadn't seen nor heard from Yuki in quite some time. She hoped her friend was just busy, and not avoiding her.

"I am not leaving until I have mastered 3 kidou today!" She quickly changed the subject. Worrying about Yuki would not help her in her training. She would go looking for her afterwards, maybe.

    ”Let us begin, then!”

Nara tried her best to sound confident, to take a tone that a leader would take. It felt awkward coming out of her mouth.

She went into a low stance and gritted her teeth, as she began speaking an incantation.

Before the words even left her mouth, a hell butterfly came fluttering into the Academy, straight towards the Vice Captain.

Nara listened to the message silently, her fist clenching. The head of Clan Sanada had been murdered.

Her mind immediately went to Yuki. Worry began to build, as Nara turned to Tatakai.

”It seems we are going to have to cut this short. There has been an emergency, and duty calls. Would you mind to join me?”

Nara did not wait for a reply, but immediately headed out in a half-job towards Sanada Manor, where she hoped Yuki would be.

Tatakai watches as Vice Captain Nara enters a stance and gets ready to cast a kido. Before the incantation could start, they both received messages by hell butterfly. Apparently, the head of the Sanada clan had been assassinated while going to a meeting with a member of the Hi clan. The head of a major noble clan being assassinated? And it appears by a Hi, another noble family? This was going to cause an uproar. As he finishes thinking this, the Vice Captain speaks and asks if he would join her as duty calls. “Of course. Duty is foremost, and cannot be ignored.” He follows her to Sanada Manor, ready to help the Vice Captain however he can.

It had been roughly a year since he last stepped in the academy, mostly because of his bad memories from his experience as a shinigami in training. Traumas and all, a bit of shame, just a tiny speckle of resentment towards a tutor or two, but mostly out of straight up laziness. A real sloth, he is, but the need for mobility has forced him out of bed. It took him nearly an hour until he could find a sufficiently long space, a track dedicated for hohō training, but he found it all on his own. Huzzah. He quickly reviewed the theoreticals for the flash step on his mind, and did a few stretches, because after all, you shouldn't do exercizing without a good old stretch, and then attempted a small leap. End of the story? He didn't move an inch, and instead dugged his head on the ground, eating a few grams of dirt.

He almost gave up on that moment, but something made him want to keep going. Pride? Self-shame? He couldn't give the sensation a name, so instead he kept trying. A second, and a third, and even a fourth time. All of them failed, until he noticed something. He was never much of a theory individual- all of the techniques he learned were because he allowed himself to feel them, and with that realization he tried a fifth time, this time moving 3 feet in one step. Progress!

Half an hour past the moment he decided to stop being a bookworm and just do the flash step, he had gotten a tad bit more consistent, though some attempts still resulted into complete failures. He decided to take a small break, and napped on the track. About 10 minutes after, he was woken up by someone literally kicking him in the gut, someone he identified as one of the most promissing trainees, which wanted to do some racing as well, but he was in the way because he mixed up his bed with the ground. A small static shock to the random guy's neck was enough to have him understand that he should apologize, which they promptly did, and Kazuki also apologized for getting on the way of his training. Together, they decided to go for some racing, first with actual racing, then another with hoho enhancing.

Again, roughly half an hour past, they were still training together, Kazuki tutoring him with certain concepts, while he transferred a bit of wisdom on the human-shaped sloth, a true partnership showing up, even though the two of'em would probably never see each other again. The laziest shinigami on Soul Society was getting more stability on his shunpo attempts, but he was still far away from perfecting it, but now his body was starting to give in. Between each flash step, even on short distances, he'd be seen panting, laying next to a wall in order to catch breath, and even taking short naps in order to recover, but he didn't give up. His close friends would probably believe he had been killed and replaced with a clone, if he had any of those, he thought each time he noticed his reach grew, even if it was by an inch.

On total, he had been on that track for about 2 hours, and many of the trainees were quite astounded by the quick development, but little did they know he had been practicing flash step ever since he left the academy, although there were hiatuses between each training session caused by pure frustration. However, it seemed that all those served for something: he had finally gotten used to the technique, being able to chain uses in order to increase terrain coverage, and overall his speed, too. His legs had this numbing sensation to them, his chest hurted because of the effort, and all of his muscles were about to collapse, but he did it. The absolute mad man did it! He felt like he could dance, if he hadn’t been so thoroughly tired, but Kazuki could finally call himself a flash step practicioner.

After a good hour of rest, Kazuki decided to do something in regards to sealing. He had always had some interest into Bakudou, even though he was subpar at best at it during his first years, and he had in mind a specific one which grabbed his attention back in the day. As usual, he looked for an empy, open-spaced area, and got himself a training dummy. For starters, he had to get the hand motion sequence etched on his mind as if it had been glued directly inside his brain, to the point he could do them without much trouble. "Hand-clap, raise heads above head, push them downwards to the ground" he said, doing the motions again. And again. And once more.

When he felt he had perfected the motion component, he started forming the reishi orbs, one at a time, then two, and so on, so forth. Took him a good while, but he was finally capable of forming five and keeping them along just long enough to finish the motions, although, as he was not speaking the incantation, all they did was, well, exist. It was now time for incantation practice, the part that many found the worst, because of the need of memorizing the incantation perfectly. “Wall of iron sand, pagoda of... of... ah, danggit, I already forgot!” Kazuki did a minor facepalm, going for another attempt. And then yet another one after it. For a Kidou Specialist, he was quite bad at, well, learning kidou. Doing them was something else, but in order to use something, you have to learn how to do it first and... well.

Third portion of the training, which was melding two of the three components at a time in order to get used to the feeling of doing them combined went surprisingly pretty well. It seemed as if the ‘going south’ had been left behind, and he had started to incorporate this kidou into his personal kit. He spent another hour patiently honing his skill into doing such components combined, until the final moment of truth: the first true attempt. As always, the hand motion came first, as he clapped his hands with such force the noise could’ve been heard on the other side of the academy, thanks to the place’s acoustic. Then, he concentrated and there were the reishi orbs, just as they were supposed to in the theoreticals for this technique.
The incantation started leaving his lips and Kazuki, for the first time ever, was putting this very useful bakudou into motion. “Wall of iron sand, pagoda of priestly form, shimmering fireflies of iron, fill until the very end; Bakudou number 75, Five Pillar Iron Brace!” he spoke out loud, right as he pushed his clasped hands, which were raised above his head, towards the ground. As expected, as soon as the incantation was spoken, the orbs went into the ground, light shining around the training dummy into 5 different directions, before 5 pillars seemed to fall out of nowhere, pinning it to the ground thanks to the chain that connected them. He had gotten it right, and gotten the sensation right, as well. The bakudou worked, and he had incorporated it into his repertoire.

Kazuki had never been so inspired when it came to training. For real, it had been years since he had worked this hard in an afternoon, and he couldn't explain why. Perhaps someone used a kidou on him without him noticing, or he took an extra dosage of caffeine? He truly didn't know. But now that boost was seemingly coming to an end, and instead of just letting it go away, he decided to go for his most astounding feat: a quite useful kidou, the highest in ranking in it's classification. That one ability that will allow him to be lazy even on speaking incantations.

That one took the longest, by far, to understand and grasp the core of it, and by the time he was putting it to use the sun, which was high in the sky when he started, had moved quite a fair bit. It was probably 4pm by that point, he imagined, but still he kept going. He felt the energy pumping inside him, and kept going despite his bodily exhaustion. He was able to call upon his newly-learned bakudou without the incantation, meaning he had gotten the bogyoudou right. Yet another addition for his arsenal, now on to the next one. Ahead, he said, onwards towards yet another personal achievement!

Ran was to focused on his own training to notice the hell butterfly that flew over to the vice captain and her sparring partner. So was unaware that members of the Sanada Clan had been murdered. Though he was aware that this other noble clan was an ally of the Hi Clan. Their was a small part of him that wondered why a member of the twelfth division needed learn kido. Or if it was just his undying hunger to learn new things. Back when he was a mod soul he had learned all the skills as soon as possible. And then had to relearn them. Well he could no longer actually use those skills but that was alright since Shinigami had so many more to learn. There was even some he could not learn just because he was not in a certain division. But that was alright. He could live with that. It took him awhile before he even noticed that the others were gone. Not that it even mattered to him. Ran looked around then back at his scrolls. These all seemed to be attack kido or hadou. Ranmaru grinned broadly and went in search of some targets to practice on. It did not take long for him to find some practice dummies to attack. But he could not find any that could fight back. Maybe he could design some when he returns to headquarters, Ran grins as he starts attacking the dummies as he attempts to master a random kido. After practicing like this for awhile Ran notices another boy about seventeen who was looking around for something. He walks over to great him. "Hello, I am Hi Ranmaru fourth seat of the twelth division. Would you like to train together?"

Ben had finished reading the books and scrolls that held the information that he needed to learn kido and replaced them on the shelf then grabbed his notebook and left the library to start to actually try to master all of these different skills. While walking the halls of the academy he thinks about his father, younger brother and stepmother. Even after a year Benjiro could not think of himself as a Hi. He was not even really sure if he should. Or even wanted to. Elninio was not to bad and she was not forcing him to change his name or anything. Instead she suggested that he keep his fathers name. It would probably be different for little Olly though since he was just a little guy. Ben is brought out of his thoughts by a greeting from another teenager. "Oh sorry! Hi, I am Shishigami Benjiro fourth seat of the fifth division. Um nice to meet you sure I guess so." In his head he could hear his zanpacuto snicker at him.
