Rota had found only one decent quality mushroom that time. He wasn't bothered by it. The mushrooms were not the reason he was here. His reason was the harvest tokens. They and they alone could help improve his mining efficiency more than it already was. He thought more about his mining as his hands dug through the undergrowth. With how close the dungeon was to becoming a legitimate possibility, Rota felt he had a responsibility to gear up he and Alyxandeyr to the best of his abilities. That meant that he had to go on a mining expedition to end all expedititons. He needed Coal and Iron in spades and he needed them quickly. There was no telling just when they were going to start clearing the dungeon, and the last thing Rota wanted to be was underprepared. He had a responsibility as the blacksmith of the two of them to do his job properly. If he was to do it, the yield from the next excavation would need to be higher than it ever had been before. He was going to be in that shaft a looooong time...but he knew it was worth it. The equipment needed his attention and he only had a amorphous window of time to improve it in. He needed to be as efficient in the next moments as he could be to get what he needed to get done done. Only time would tell if he could manage to do it.

Rota had found two mushrooms that time. Not a bad haul all things considered. He still carried on though, since the Harvester's Pickaxe was too good to pass up. With the rapidly approaching dungeon deadline, Rota felt obligated to improve he and Alyx's equipment. This would require materials he as of yet did not have in the numbers he would need. This meant that he would need to go on a mining expedition to end all expeditions, longer than he had ever done before. The thought alone made him shudder a bit. He had spent so much time in his makeshift mineshaft. While he enjoyed it as a whole, the thought of staying in for an extended period of time deterred him a bit. At the very least he had Little One to keep him company, but the fact remained that he had seen basically all of what his mine had to offer. There was no mystique or wonder to it now. It was a chore, no more, no less. Worse yet, it was a chore that was required for his true passion to be realized, so he could not even ignore it. It HAD to be done. There was no one around him to make the task any less important, besides Little One and He could only do so much. It HAD to be Rota. In any event Rota mulled over these thoughts as he continued to dig through the undergrowth for mushrooms.

One more mushroom to the pile. Rota felt like he was making decent time, but there was no true way of telling at this point. He just had to carry on, and hope that he got as many tickets as he needed. Thinking of that, it brought to mind how much of his effort had been devoted to the arts rather than combat. It made sense in a way. He had to be an excellent member of his trade to compare to his father's legacy. On the other hand, Rota always considered himself a warrior first, and that was marginally slipping away from him. He was slightly unnerved by that revelation. He had to change that. Floor 2 would be a new beginning for him, a chance to right some of the wrongs he had done here. He had gotten himself established in the gloomwood, so moving on he knew what his focus needed to be. All he needed to do was adhere to that standard going forward, because his blade demanded a competent user, versus one that was inept. Unfortunately, right now he needed to remain a smith first.His prowess with Abyssian II would improve in time, and for now he was adaquately proficient for anything that dared cross his path. He set his sights back on his smithing for now, confident in his abilities and priorities. The equipment of The Gloomking and The Demon Artisan needed upgrading desperately.

Only one mushroom yet again. If Rota cared about the mushroom yield at all he would be peeved, but he didn't so he wasn't. He continued to rummage for the mushrooms while Little One looked on at him. That was one enigma to him that he was unsure of if or when he would get the answers to. Who created the carved orbs, and for what purpose? What made Little One so unique that there were other entities of living mineral dedicated to ending his existence? As an artisan, Rota admired the artistry in the Golems. They were exquisite in their intricacy, and varied wildly from being to being if the differences between an iron golem and a stone golem can be marked as standard. How many different varieties of golem were there, and how did they work? Could one learn how to make them? How difficult was it? There were far too many quesrions and nowhere near enough answers. It all seemed to come back to the mysterious stone that he had been accumulating. He had a good supply of it, but had no idea AT ALL on how to use it. It was a problem for someone who worked with minerals as he did. He wanted to know everything about them, but it seemed all information on them had dried up. Hopefully Floor 2 woukd have some of the answers he sought, but he wasn't holding his breath. These were things that were untold decades old. The chances that they would be everywhere just waiting for him were inconceivably low. Nonetheless, no matter how improbable the task was, Rota was determined to learn the secrets of the golems.

Alyx needed a few more Hearts, and he needed a few more candies, so he decided that he'd kill two birds with one... Piece of bait. Yeah... He had something to try anyway. He found a spider that had wandered away from the rest of the pack, and held his left hand over a piece of bait, channeling all of his Wrath into this friendship-inducing morsel. He was going to hit that spider with so much love that it had no choice but to bend to his will. To put it simply, he was going to put his love into its soul. Hopefully with a single piece of bait, he'd be done and over with this gathering of candy hearts. Or Candy/hearts. It was really all the same, wasn't it?

Alyx had decided that he'd go in and get himself a new Heart for his new pet. He had one, given to him by Rota, and that was a very kind gesture. Alyx needed food for the growing Queen, though, and he could think of few hearts that would meet his standards beside spider hearts. The easiest way to get spider hearts was to tame them in here, where they spawned indiscriminately, and it had the added bonus of getting him a new Queen heart, which had to be worth something as fodder, at the very least. He came upon three spiders in the cave, and hefted a piece of candy. It felt slightly sticky. Time to test this new bait out.

Alyx' first attack drilled into one of the spiders, and it immediately exploded into a shower of blue shards, while the other two lunged at him. He didn't worry too much about the infinitesimal amount of damage he'd received. The bait seemed to be doing its job, at the absolute least. There wasn't much way to tell if it was any more effective than regular bait, since he could pretty much one-shot any of these spiders with regular bait, but he'd be able to see soon enough what they were capable of. He even had a secret plan in his back pocket, just in case he really wanted to get this out of the way quickly. He took aim at the next spider, casually whipping a piece of candy at it.

Alyx' next attack was right on target, too. The spider was leaping toward him when it was struck, and the shards that it burst into when it hit his armor flowed past him as the last spider made as much progress toward attacking him as it would if it had stood back and gnawed on its own leg. On revisiting the thought of feeding these things to his new pet... Maybe they weren't the absolute brightest creatures in the Gloomwood. But there had to be some sort of benefit to feeding her creatures of the same type, right? Surely there was some advantage or another. He'd definitely find out soon, though. He needed quite a bit of food, if he could trust what the Beastmaster had told him. More out of pity than anything else, Alyx whipped a piece of bait underhanded at the last spider.

As you journey deeper into the cave, you begin to notice the walls of the cave are becoming more and more coated in spiderwebs, as if you are walking into a giant spider's nest. You can see skulls and bones of both man and beast within the webs, or suspended from the ceiling in horrific manner. You come into a large cavern, and as you venture into the dark, light suddenly fills the room as a hole in the ceiling is uncovered. Looking to find the mechanism by which the sunlight was allowed into the cavern, you discover a gargantuan Gloomweave spider descending to face you on a single, rope-like strand of web. As you stare in horror at the terrifying abomination before you, it raises its front legs and bares its monstrous fangs at you, each dripping with a horrible toxin.

Gloomweave Queen: A large spider, roughly ten feet tall and fifteen feet across. A successful attack from this monster will cause poison for three rounds, worth three points of damage a round. The Gloomweave Queen is too large to escape her nesting cavern, and as such, with two distance-gaining actions, one may be free from harm, being unreachable by the monster. That is, if one can escape the sticky webs that the monster is prone to throwing.
HP: 500

Can attack enemies no matter where they are in the cavern, meaning that you are always in combat range unless you leave the area.
1-60: attack,
61-75: web attack, which, if hits, deals no damage, but s the target to the floor, preventing the enemy from moving (but not attacking) for two rounds.
76-90: retreat outside of combat range (even bows) and add 1-5 Gloomweave spiders to the combat. Will only return to combat range once the adds are dealt with. (76-78=1, 79-81=2, 82-84=3, 85-87=4, 88-90=5)
91-100: rage, attacking with +30 to attack

Alyx stepped into the cavern, facing down the Gloomqueen as she made her usual show of force. He smiled and bounced a piece of candy in his palm. "Hey, honey. I'm home." He aimed as well as he could and figured he'd try to get in a good shot before she started moving around too much. He'd be able to tame her. It was just a matter of time and of bait. And with this new bait, it would be over in no time at all. The Gloomqueen began her impressive but ultimately futile dance of death, and Alyx began imagining all the things he was going to do with the loot that he got from this encounter.

And he'd definitely made a mark. Alyx' first attack had filled a significant portion of the Queen's health bar with blue, and it was not going to be all too terribly long until he'd brought this to an end if it continued at this rate. How far Alyx had come in so short a time astounded him. He was arguably the strongest person in the Gloomwood. He'd taken the boss of the alternate dungeon on his own. An act that not anyone on the forums had been able to replicate, in all of his searching. Alyx was one-of-a-kind, it seemed. He didn't know if that filled him with hope or with dread. Rota was a seriously capable and entertaining companion, but Alyx was pulling away from the pack in terms of combat capability. He had little else to compare the two by. His crafting was mostly useless at this juncture, and his harvesting was less than prodigious. But in terms of pure combat ability, there was a gap there, despite Rota's rather impressive blade.

The glowing piece of candy smashed into the Gloomweave Queen with enough force to halt the raging charge of the monster. She didn't so much crash into Alyx as nudge him bodily. The King was at home once more: fighting monsters that had no hope of even bothering him. He was not so foolish, though, to forget that he needed to work on his defensive talents. That woman had proven that, without a doubt. She had not only overpowered him, but she had even damaged his shield; a feat that no other creature had ever managed before. Not even the Gloomking had so much as dented it, and she had damaged it as easily as he might have killed a spider. That crack was still there. Maybe the problem wasn't entirely on him, though. That shield was a little dated. He'd had it since level two; that was eleven levels ago. How long had it even been? It seemed like ages. It seemed like he could use something of an upgrade. It was a shame that he didn't know any armorsmiths. Maybe he'd need to look into that himself: He'd be able to craft his own armor and shields. It would be infinitely useful.

Another incredible hit that took the bite out of the Queen's... bite. He'd used three pieces of bait and brought the Queen up to half her friendship level. This was insane. Before, he'd had to make a grueling marathon out of this fight, and now, with one of his weakest combat skills, he was able to bring her down with just a couple of hits. This was insane. The game was broken. Or at least these holiday items were broken. Or he was broken. There was really a long chain of possibilities, here, and any one of them could wreck the game. If this was a logic string, it would just be a long chain of OR statements. Any TRUE value in the chain would turn the whole thing positive. The only real way to check any of it out was to isolate variables. But pretty much everything Alyx did was broken, so he kinda just figured it was him.
