Danger, this was no good, poisonous... All warnings against that spot. The Totoma was no different. She knew the warning, and she knew that marking things as such would warn others about the area. She had found a perfect little grove, deep in the swamp. There were shallow pools where fish were caught in the dry season, when the water receded just enough that they couldn't swim out into the open waters of the swamp. It was shaded by brambles and thorns, and there were some stinging plants, so marking the trees with the tell tale X to warn others to keep away wasn't too much of a stretch. Aside from a few stinging nettles and the poisonous brush, the area was actually perfectly safe. But she marked it anyways. This would be her safe haven. X Marks The Spot for the small land she called her own.
