Despite the tentacle encroaching him, Kostya took his time in aiming from atop his perch. It snaked closer and closer still, but he held steady. It was impossible to hear what they were saying, but he could see their attempts at taking it down. "Oh, so you think you are vun to kill it?" All it would take was one, well-placed shot. That's all he needed: One success. Kostya fired, eyes alight with intensity as the ball of energy collided with the tentacle, electricity arcing across its shape before fading away entirely. Nyet," he whispered, and looked between the tentacle's corpse and Mimsy's prone form, a crooked grin twisting his lips. He had aided her, certainly. And that was progress in its own right. But he had also stolen her kill. He never claimed to be above the petty victories. kostya hp 33 dmg 9 charge 2/3 fear gc2, ss2 remain target tentacle hp: KILLSTOLEN buffs: -2 damage modifier, 2/15 uses spitter = no auto dmg

As the group went, the little girl went from quiet subservience with the odd sniffle to outright struggling, shrieking and wriggling, there was a smell of burnt flesh and it was evident the net itself was the cause, leaving large burnt welts on her pale skin.
"Let me out, please, it hurts!" she cried.

There were enough of them to handle the problem, certainly, and now Lukas was definitely glad that they'd decided to come in as a group. The hysterical civilian was a problem, though: he had to nudge her back a few steps, toward the protecting circle of a round rack of clothing where she could hide, before he could step in to swipe at the creature himself. He was behind the other two, but at least he hit hard enough to do a bit of damage, even if he was caught by a claw himself. HP: 38/40 Charge: 1/3 DMG: 5 Boss HP: 38 Quote: Death Hunter: -1 from damage modifier. -6 is -5 Nimble weapons such as daggers and fists are very effective against SPEEDY type infected. Double damage against this type!

"Th-that's not what I---!" Lydia began to protest when Jack lifted up the net gun, a hand reaching up as if to yank his arm back down, but too late as the net flew and ensnared it's intended target. She huffed out a long breath, eyes wide. "I meant more along the lines of maybe tying her hands back..." She said, quietly, dismayed by what Jack had done, a quick, worried glance shifting towards Arorangi. The voice on the PA system reprimanding them for their actions certainly didn't help. She gave her head a rapid shake, blue curls bouncing around her face as she took in a sharp breath, moving forward towards the girl who was now struggling beneath the net, her pleas heart wrenching to hear. "It will be okay! As he said, this is only as a precaution. You were bitten, and we are unsure if that..." She began, before realizing what she was saying could not possibly be helpful. "Your parents are probably at the ice rink with the others. Come on now, try not to be afraid." She straightened, but only in time for Jack to begin tugging the girl along. All she could really do was follow, and watch for any severe behavior change in the child. She had hoped it would go more smoothly than this, she really did and... "Stop! Stop!" She called out to Jack. "Somethings happening to her!" But the net shouldn't have affected her like that. Not unless.... Lydia sucked in another breath, another glance going over towards Aro, then back to the girl, then up to Jack. "We...never mind. We should keep going." She nodded, miserable, but knowing they could not safely let her out of that net. " Quickly." She added, as if that wasn't already obvious.

Mik let out a sound that was almost a sob. It was too much for him to handle, he didn't like any of this one bit.
"Horace." he said weakly, looking to the exit of the store, a little more serious than normal. "Can we go back? Please. Please. What if something else comes?"

There was a gurgling shriek as the tentacle began to fall apart, dropping blackened limbs and chunks of twisted flesh into the water of the fountain. It thrashed wildly for a moment, stiffened in what appeared to be pain and then withdrew back into the grating it had come from. The hole itself was nothing but darkness and a putrid smell within, but was not large enough to accommodate even the smallest hunter.
None of the slabs of viscera left behind moved or did anything but turn the water dark, cloudy and stinking.

The time between her fall and the fall of the tentacle was not particularly extensive, but it stretched painfully onward as every tiny detail of her failure rapidly passed through her mind in duplicate, triplicate, exponentially growing with each second. Mimsy still remained in the same place, her chest rising and falling with a shudder of restraint. In any other circumstance, the shower of limbs and gore that rained down into the fountain would have been very exciting for her to witness. She might have even gone to play in it, if she still felt like playing. But she didn't. No one deserved to play when they failed as tremendously as she had. "I'm sorry." Her shoulders slumped even further as she stared at the floor, her unfocused eyes unable to move away from one very blurry spot of no significance. "I failed you. I negated the importance of your actions and you were forced to do what I could not. I am not capable. I cannot ensure your safety, and am a liability. I should go home now." Cami would be much more beneficial for him here - she was a Sun, and they would do a much better job of encouraging each other. She could only be a detriment and distraction. chromaticore jk this is kind of like her max level qq

He felt the sudden give of the tentacle and continued to push, until it all fell apart in his hands and he stumbled to keep from falling into the growing pile of water and goo. The tentacle was dying, and when he finally turned his head to watch it melt into the water, he saw the glint of an arrow just before it all disappeared. His head snapped up to look at the rafters direction the arrow was pointedly coming from, just in time to see Kostya's eyes resting on Mimsy from afar. His own eyes narrowed, and a vein pulsed on his temple as his fists clenched in anger that turned the world red. He wished Jezebel was a boomerang, so he could knock that little snake right out of the tree it was hiding in.
Mimsy's voice pulled his attention out of the fever of rage, and he slumped instantly at the sight of her. She was giving up way too fast, and she'd done so well. It tore his heart in two to see it.
"I can't believe you're gonna sit there and tell me you failed. Who the hell brought that tentacle down to size so we could kill it? It was a team effort. Without you, me and Cami would'a been s**t outta luck. Since when is one fumble a fail?"
He fell down to his knees, and picked her up in his arms. "Honey, if one mistake means you've failed, then I got news for you. I'm the reigning King of Mistake world, and I should just kill myself now. So you need to hurry up and realize how good you did or else I'm gonna start freaking out and thinking I'm the worst!"
Robert logic was infallible in it's infancy. He held out the woman in his arms to Cami, but then immediately pulled her back. "Good job to you too, sis. We won! Everybody's alive! All parts are wait let me - " He put Mimsy down, and checked every inch of her with tickles. "Yeah, looks like every part is still there! You need checking too, sis?"

Pulling herself up off the ground she realized that now she was not only dusty, she was muddy in that gritty way that sand made mud, and her underwear was damp. Nothing in this world was worse than damp ******** underwear because it got clammy in 0.2 seconds. Consoling herself that it was in the defense of her family that she'd gotten that way the dark-haired Sun Hunter shook her head tiredly at Mimsy's solemn defeat. "You're hardly a liability. I might be more brute force but in more situations than not I'm far less useful than your keen mind." She would have smiled, if she had the energy. As it was hands were carefully feeling her ribs and wondering if maybe one of them wasn't cracked. She'd been used a bit like a golf ball on a driving range and this place was hardly forgiving -- it was all concrete, stone, and steel. At least she could be grateful she hadn't gone through one of the many glass display windows. Picking glass out of her back was not anyone's idea of fun. Well. It might have been someone's but it wasn't hers. Robert's question surprised her for a moment. "I think it's all solid. One of my ribs feels a bit tender and I just came from another mission so I'm tired as hell but..." Shoulders shrugged before she regretted the movement. "I've been set on fire. There's worse things."

The reassurances Robert offered to her didn't quite sink in, despite how much it stung to hear 'I can't believe' applied to something she'd told him. Any work, even if it happened to technically be progress, was irrelevant if she didn't follow through - just as all of the research she accrued on the Higgs was meaningless now. Mimsy wanted to explain that, to provide the very simple answer to his question of one fumble equating with failure, but when he gathered her up and provided a different perspective. " No," she cried, panicking as he applied the same logic of failure to himself. "You aren't the worst. You are the best, and that is why I chose you." Cami received a tiny smile for as long as she was extended towards her, then she buried her face in Robert's coat, only to be set down again. In protest, she reached in his direction, which made her all the more vulnerable to tickling. There was an eruption of giggles that seemed to indicate that everything was just fine, and she barely caught her breath in time to hear her sister's assessment of her physical state. "Do you need to be bandaged?" she asked, her eyes watching curiously as she awaited her answer. This was the only way to assure her that she actually cared about the answer, as she was also inching towards Robert with hopeful outstretched arms.

"Yeah, well, I chose you too." He reminded her, his threat of tickling Cami dissipating when she admitted she was actually hurt. "Because you are the best thing that's ever happened to me." He bent in and pressed his lips against her cheek, but instead of kissing he made some kind of rude blowing sound. Then he whipped out his bandages and cracked his knuckles, preparing to get to work. "Okay. Cami first, then you, then me. Yeah?" He unraveled the bandages, and started rolling them carefully around Cami's torso, where she'd spoken of broken ribs. "Can you get her uh, legs there Mimsy?" Like hell was he going to go down there. chromaticore healed for.. 1.. yeahh...

At first, Mimsy was completely dissatisfied by Robert's actions when they did not include immediately picking her back up again. She had just begun to pout when she discovered that the reason for this was that he was tending to Cami's wounds...and thought that she should too. Thought that she could, more accurately. The last (and only) time she'd used a bandage on someone, it killed her other sibling. Maybe he didn't know that. She carefully examined the bandages in her hands as she unwrapped them, inspecting them for any signs of tampering. They appeared to be fine, and matched what Robert was using. That made them trustworthy enough for her comfort. As she bent to patch her up, placing meticulous care into wrapping them around her as perfectly as possible, a short laugh came abruptly and left behind a pleasant smile. "I have only learned the practice of first aid by watching Robert work," she remarked, her voice intentionally loud enough for him to clearly overhear her. "Perhaps, if only in this sense, it is fortunate that we did not have the opportunity to play more frequently when we were younger. Had any harm come to you, I am quite certain that I would only have exacerbated the issue." When she was finished with the first bandage, she admired her handiwork as she curiously tested the feeling that accompanied the knowledge that she'd healed someone. Not hurt or torn apart or destroyed. She should have known this would feel better - ALICE had entrusted her with the ability to heal within Wonderland, had believed in her so tremendously that her greatest gift to her allowed the sacrifice of her own health to restore the life of two others. ALICE always knew that she was more than just destruction. "I prefer it this way," she sighed in contentment, directing her smile at her husband, then to her younger sister. "A-ah! Are you alright!?" She eyed his arm worriedly, before he directed her attention to what needed to be done. "R-right!" Molly's brows knitted anxiously as she circled around Dakota to move to strike the enemy, but paused as a flash of blue shot through. Her head whirled around, curls flying. "Oh! Kostya! So good to see you! Thanks so much!" She managed to shoot the other hunter a quick but anxious smile before she charged in and struck at the spitter, yelping as some acid sprayed her way. HP: 48 / 60
