"Well.. "

He shuffled a little, hoping she'd like his idea.

"I wasn't sure where to go to eat, and I figured.. it'd be nice to not have an audience, so... well, I talked to a few people and nobody was very helpful... So I thought about it and well... it's a nice night and I thought... " He held up the basket. "A picnic in the park before the film?"

He nodded a greeting to Roswell.

"Good evening Roswell."

Roswell Grey

She gave a smile as she opened the door, "Hello, Roswell, you seem rested." She was so enthusiastic that he had been able to get time off, even though she knew Draculaura would let him anyhow. She spent so much time prepping because, in all honesty, she couldn't decide what to wear on a date like this. The last time they even had a date was the dance, and she spent half of it with him and the other half on stage with Atomica and the ghouls.

But she felt enthusiasm practically spilling from her gills, "Where do you plan to go tonight?"

"You look boo-tiful!" Roswell exclaims when she opens the door. It was astro-nomical that he'd spent so long away form her, he'd never do that again.

"Well later, we should be meeting some of our friends, Draconia, Glen and all, at the Die-ner for dinner. They have an event to go to. So I thought we should make an event of our own."

He stuck out his elbow for her to hook her arm in.

"Would you like to go to a party with me? It's our Monster high tombecomic Queen Regent Surpreme, Jewles. It's in the Hollow woods right behind the shcool."

He smiled at her,

"Interested?"

She wrapped her arm around his, "Hm, I had some homework to finish but I'll let it slide for now. Yes, that seems very interesting," she smiled.

Her enthusiasm was rising as his smile had shown, "I suppose you'll have to lead the way."

His smiled brightened as they both walked from her doomitory to Jewels' party.

"A picnic in the park before the film?"

"Ooh, how very romantic!" Meme began to nudge at Ronan's side playfully but then she stopped and stiffened up. 'Jokes can't save you now, Meme, it's you two going on a romantic date.' she thought to herself and so began the internal screaming.

"I, urm.. That sounds so nice!" Her voice sounded strangled so she coughed and smiled awkwardly, fluffing out her sleeves "Let's go?" Was the only thing she could manage before stiltedly walking out of the common room.

"Oh boy..." Rory muttered to himself, in his home dimension of Mirrorverse, pacing outside of the mirror that led to Marceline's Doomitory room. "Oh, dear..."

He paced left and right, trying very hard not to peek in on his ghoulfriend as she prepared for their big date, the celebration of their One-Week-aversary. The two of them had conferred and agreed that, as of their kiss during Tombcoming, they were officially boofriend and ghoulfriend. That was one week ago.

Well, technically it was six days, twenty-two hours, fifteen minutes and 48 seconds ago. Rory wanted to celebrate the hexact moment of the occasion in as special a way as he could think of, during their big date tonight. And therein lied the problem:

Rory couldn't think of a single thing to do on this date.

"Whyyyyy!" Rory slapped his palms against his temples on either side of his head and tried to gently jar loose some grimspiration. All week, he'd been looking forward to the chance to create some grand gesture and show Marceline how important she was to him. How she was everything to him.

How every moment of every day was now consumed with thoughts of her and only-

"RORRIM!" Rory looked up from pounding on his head to see his mother, standing disapprovingly in the doorway of the hallway that Rory was pacing in. "What ARE you doing?"

"Erk." Rory croaked under the glare of his mother. Weekends generally made her a bit more snappish, as beside her ordinary duties tending the other sides of magic mirrors, she found herself constantly being summoned to normie sleepovers. As such, her tolerance for teenaged antics hit a very lowe ebb on weekend nights like this one.

"Are you stressing out over mid-terms again? I told you, I will attend your Parent-Creature conference next week. There is no need to worry if you've been keeping up on your studies."

"No, it's not that," Rory tried hexplain. At least, it hadn't been, until she brought it back up... "I'm just sort of stressing out about my date tonight. I've got, uh, boofriend's block or something. I can't think of anything to do that would be big enough, epic enough, special enough for our date!"

"Oh, yes, the Loa ghoul." Mary recalled dryly. Her tone didn't seem to indicate she felt this required as much urgency as Rory was making it out to need.

"Marceline." Rory reminded her. "She's the greatest ghoul in the world...in the universe! She deserves the beast of everything, but I've sort of hexausted all of my ideas already this week. On Monday, I brought her a bone-sai tree from Japain...on Tuesday I made her a giant cookie in Home Ick...on Wednesday I hexed all of the mirrors in the school to bleed a heart for her...on Thursday I wrote her an epic poem...on Friday I cheered her on in SKRM...and now I'm just stuck!"

"Oh, Rory..." It was Mary's turn to put her fingers to her temples and rub. "Rory, you're obsessed. If you smother this poor ghoul, no good will come of it."

"I'm not smothering her! I'm proving my undying devotion!" Rory protested. "I just want her to know that I'm thinking about her every waking moment, and in my dreams too, so that she knows she's the single most important thing in the world to me!....I mean, besides you, mother."

Mary sighed.

"Your father had this hexact same problem. Once he found something he adored, he adored it to death and back again. And in the meantime, he'd lose interest in everything else important until it cost him....well, it's not a healthy way to go about things."

Rory looked down at the floorboards. Mother obviously didn't understand.

"Rory. Why not let Margaret-"

"Marceline."

"Whatever. Why not let Marceline choose what you do tonight? Give her a chance to set the pace, before things get far too wrapped up in your clinging to her ankles kissing her feet."

"I'm not-"

"You're about two minutes away from it, Rory, I can tell. It is important to consider the ghoul's grimterests. And it's also important that you are not the one doing all the work of maintaining the relationship. Believe me, it leads to nothing good." For the briefest of moments, Mary glanced over at the Wreck Room, her workshop full of shattered mirrors. "A happy relationship is one where two lovebats share the responsibilities. You don't want to end up as the one hovering around his mirror, dying for him to just take one glance at it..."

Mary cleared her throat.

"Let her choose where you go tonight. And then abide by her decision."

"Even if it's not safe?!" Rory squeaked.

"If she feels the same way for you that you feel for her, why would you even need to worry about that?" Mary asked sagely. The statement struck Rory in the brain like a bullet.

"You're...your right." Rory realized. "I can rely on Marceline to make the beast decision. Thank you, mother!"

Mary held out her arms for a hug, but at the very last moment, she winked out of sigh, obviously on her way to yet another normie sleepover. Rory sighed, and peeped into Marceline's mirror...waiting for her to summon him...

Ronan blushed a little at Meme's enthusiasm, pleased she approved of his idea. He nodded and watched Melody and Roswell walk off ahead of them. He frowned a little and taking Roswell's actions as inspiration, he offered his free arm to Meme and heading off to the picnic site.

Rory sighed, and peeped into Marceline's mirror...waiting for her to summon him...

Marceline flicked through her closet, wondering what she should wear on her date with Rory tonight... A striped sweater and scarf? Too casual... Satin tailcoat and slacks? A little too fancy. She finally settled on a button-down blouse under a satin vest, and a fun blood-red skirt.

She fiddled with her hair in the mirror... the length grew back after Tombcoming, practically overnight, but thanks to the skar-atin treatment it was softer and less untameable; still very, very thick however. As she applied a layer of her usual purple lipstick, she caught a flash of brilliant red pass over her face in her reflection... She smirked, understanding fully what she'd seen, as if she'd gotten used to it. Grabbing a new hat with red accents to match her outfit, she tapped her finger on the mirror surface and summoned her boo-friend...

"Hi!" Rory popped in behind Marceline, sitting on the chair in front of her desk.

"You look uhhh-mazing." He grinned toothily. "Happy almost six-day-a-versary, ghoul!"

Rory stood up and went for a kiss, but Marceline seemed to swerve ever-so-slightly right when he swerved ever-so-slightly left, causing something more like a cheek-mash than anything else. He backed up a step and rubbed the back of his head.

"S-sorry. Ah, heh...Uh...anyways, I hope you're ready to have an epic date night! I was talking to Mother about it..." Rory was oblivious to an obvious slump in Marceline's shoulders at the mention of his mother.

"And she says I should, uh, you know, uh..."
Rory touched his hands together and then spread them apart. "Not be quite so smother-y. I hope I'm not being smother-y! Am I being smother-y? I mean, I hope this week has been as uhh-mazing for you as it has been for me."

Rory looked at Marceline with trepidation in his eyes. After his ....'pep talk' with his mother, now he was feeling very self-conscious about how he'd been acting all week.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 11, 2014 9:10 pm

Marceline blinked, unsure of how to respond... She opened her mouth a few times, as if to speak, then promptly closed it and wrinkled her brow in thought. She then sighed, and after taking a moment, finally spoke.

"Well I mean... you've been very attentive t'words me, t'words us an' all... all week." She scratched the side of her head. "I wouldn't say it was smother-y, but I ain't never been in a r'lationship before now and I wouldn't know what to compare it to... I mean for all I know this is how normal r'lationships should be and..."

She realized she had begun rambling a bit, and stopped herself. She took Rory's hands in hers, weaving her fingers between his, and pulled him gently closer.

"I'mean to say... This week has been frightful. More than I could'a asked for. But don't feel like y'need to keep out-doing y'self every time. Just bein' with you is... is a scream!"

Unsure of what else to say, Marceline impulsively leaned in closer and ever-so-gently kissed him.

"Now, shall we go on our date?"

Rory let out a breath he hadn't even been aware he'd been holding. With Marceline's skeleton hands in his, how could anything go wrong? Why had he been so worried?

Even in Marceline's Doom room, it was obvious that she was enjoying their relationship. The bone-sigh tree he'd given her sat on her endtable at the foot of her bed. The strangely blank white mirror he'd given her was framed and hanging on the wall in a prominent spot so everyone could see it. Tucked into the corner of its frame was the picture the two of them had gotten together at Tombcoming, even though a giant flash obscured a good part of Rory's head.

Everything was clawesome! ....And now it was time to drop the bomb on Marceline....

"Well, I...haven't planned anything for our date tonight." Rory confessed. "I thought we'd...well, do whatever YOU want to do! I was talking to mother-"

Marceline stifled a groan by masking it with a cough.

"And she said that relationships are all about sharing the responsibility and this, and that...and it got me to thinking...You're still a little bit of a mystery to me, Marceline! I know what classes you have, of course...know your fashion sense and which sports you love...a couple of the bands you like to listen to...where you work...your work schedule...that habit you have of twisting your hair when you're thinking hard that you probably don't even realize you have..." Rory blinked, suddenly realizing he was blathering on. "But! I mean...what do you do for fun? What's your dream date? Where would you want to go if you could go ANYwhere in the world...multiple worlds, even? I guess what I'm saying..."

Rory stuffed his hands into his pockets and gave Marceline an almost apologetic grin.

"Is....what do you wanna do tonight?"

"Anywhere in the world..." Marceline mused on the idea... having a mirror witch for a boo-friend definitely has its perks!

"Well, Boil Nye is givin' a lecture on Evil-ution at The Boo-niversity of Scareifornia! That'd be a scream! ... but prob'bly not date material, right?"

She wrinkled her nose, thinking again. She presumed Rory was expecting the typical romantic locales of the world... Scaris, Hauntlywood, Doombai... and while all these places sounded like they'd be very interesting, Marceline had other plans in mind... The Boo-clear Screesearch Facility in Hisserland, Charles Dour-win National Park in the Gore-lapagos, the cutting edge Mad Science facilities of the world! All of them a quick Mirrorverse trip away... but none of them appropriate for a date! She sighed, if only there was a way to get the best of both worlds...

"Aha! I've got it." She grinned. "It's just the right time of year for it, too... We should go to the Maul-dives Islands... specifically Voodhoo Island! Trust me on this one, this is gonna be a total scare!"

"Maul-dives?" Rory repeated. "Gee, I've never been there! Is it sa-"

Rory cut himself off, remembering what his mother said. Didn't he trust Marceline? Didn't he think she was capable of picking somewhere they could both enjoy, safely? He cleared his throat.

"Er-ahem,- I mean, that sounds great! Voodhoo Island...hang on, let me see if there's a handy mirror there." Rory held up a finger and concentrated, his eyes giving off an ominous red/purple glow. "Ah, there we go! There's a, uh, powder room at a rest stop near the South Beach...Boy, I hope not all of our dates are going to end up in bathrooms."

Monday Morning

Melody stayed inside to study, although it was sensible to also do so in the library, she'd have more privacy to study here. She looked over all her subjects and tried to determine which would be the most difficult and studied for those first, careful to remember which books were which.

Everytime Vinny or Ascreama came into the room, she would wave them away as she was nose deep in a book. Sure she was tired, but at what cost was her future at passing the semester?
