Vyntyr felt the Force building in her body and once again attempted to focus it into a jump. This time, though, she focused on the image of the Force as almost a jet engine, blasting out of her feet and sending her flying forward and out of the hole. She ran toward the wall of the pit and took a few steps up the wall using her speed and momentum, and attempted to follow through with round two. She would make it this time. Right? She tried not to let doubt enter into her mind, but it was hard. Her body was simply not made for this. But she needed to do it. There was no excuse for not being a well-rounded Jedi. Not for Vyntyr.

Vyntyr hit the ground, flat on her back, and the wind was knocked out of her. She groaned softly and closed her eyes as her body exploded into a tapestry of pain. Why was she doing this? Why was she subjecting herself to this kind of pain? What was she gaining? She was getting nowhere.

She sighed and slowly picked herself up again. She didn't have time to be thinking about how hopeless this was. She needed practice, and she had no other recourse. She gathered Force energy and moved it into her legs again. At least this part was easy. She may not be as fast as she was each time before, but she was always faster.

Vyntyr felt her body grow stronger and her pain intensify as she began running toward the wall again, determined to get this right. She took several steps up the wall and pushed off with all of her might, aiming for the lip of the hole, certain that this time she would make it. There was no excuse for not making it. At least none that she wanted to acknowledge. her body would not make her a liability. She needed to overcome her deficiencies and ascend beyond this paltry pain to reach the other side as a full-fledged Jedi... But this paltry pain was pretty incredible. She could feel herself beginning to tear inside as she moved.

Ha! She'd done it! She barely managed to clear the lip of the hole, and she wobbled and teetered on the edge, almost falling back in before the knight grabbed her hand and caught her, pulling her to safer ground. Vyntyr blushed. "Thank you." He replied that it wasn't a problem, and stepped back to allow her the freedom to attempt the first obstacle again. Vyntyr took a deep breath as she returned to the starting position, charging her body with the Force and preparing herself mentally for the pain that was to come. She tried her very hardest to forget about it for now, but her body was screaming for her to stop.

Vyntyr took her first steps and felt the Force flowing through her like liquid strength, fueling every step and urging her onward. She could do this. She had this handled. She'd make it this time! The pain urged her forward, instead of trying to stop her now, and she drew strength from it, determined to succeed if she was going to be subjected to this kind of pain anyway. She blasted the Force out of her feet and imagined herself flying freely over the open pit, As she put her foot on the edge of the pit, she forced herself forward with everything that she had, grunting involuntarily and gritting her teeth to the pain that wracked her body.

Haha! She sailed over the pit a little less like a graceful bird and a little more like a clumsy monkey, but she made it. She landed and rolled on the other side of the pit, as he legs gave out from the impact, and she started laughing. She'd made it. She lay flat on her back and chuckled before summoning the herculean effort necessary to clamber to her feet. Next was a more complex obstacle. It consisted of a wall the extended to the left of a pit, and another wall perpendicular to it on the other side of the pit. What this left was a gap on the left side of the pit, and a platform hidden from view on the right side of the pit.

Vyntyr saw that the object of this obstacle was to run along the left wall and make it through the gap before springing off the wall and landing on the platform to the right. She would have to not only make the trip, but time her jump right or end up jumping into a wall at full speed. She groaned. This was gonna hurt, too... She coiled the Force within her and sprang at the wall, running for a good distance along it before she focused the Force at the wall and aimed to push herself away from it, springing toward the other side. Hopefully she'd make it. She didn't know how much more she could take of those hard hits on the ground.

Vyntyr had made it on her first try. Handily. She laughed and stood before gritting her teeth and almost hitting the floor again, her scars exploding in pain. Okay. It was time to stop. She'd made good progress, but she was done. She took a sharp breath and began limping away from the course, trying to hide her pain from the outside world as she pulled her robe with clenched fists. She was interrupted as she paced away by a quiet and unexpected hand on her shoulder. She started and turned to look at who was touching her. She looked into the face of one of the members of the Jedi Council, a Miraluka master named Leyren Laro. Her white and gold headdress was a surprise to the student, who didn't exactly expect a Jedi Master to sneak up on her.

"Oh! Good morning, Master Laro."

The Miraluka woman bowed her head. "Good morning, young one."

Vyntyr clenched her jaw as another wave of pain took over and tried to maintain her dignity. "W- what brings you all the way down here?"

The woman smiled softly. "I enjoy watching the younglings practice. You were quite impressive, young one. What is your name, I don't believe we've become acquainted?"

Vyntyr nodded. She'd only scarcely seen the Master around the academy. "Thank you, but I barely managed to get past the first obstacle... The others here are much better. My name is- Vyntyr. I'm relatively new here." She'd just been shipped from offworld to continue her training on Tython. She was subtly shaking, trying to maintain order over herself.

The Master waved her hand dismissively. "You misjudge yourself. The others... They don't face the particular challenges that you face, am I right?"

Vyntyr frowned... "You can... See that?" If a woman without eyes could see her, she must look like a joke to the rest of the Order. Vyntyr groaned internally. What did they think of her?

The woman nodded gently. "I can... But you hide it very well. What seems to be the problem, child? I sense a great internal struggle in you."

Vyntyr sagged.. Well, leave it to someone who sees through the Force to see through her. She hurt too much to argue. "Can we talk in private?"

The Jedi Master nodded again and turned to leave, gesturing for Vyntyr to follow her. "Come this way."

Vyntyr followed the Master, trusting her wisdom. They soon arrived at the medical wing of the academy, and Vyntyr looked around to see the bacta tanks lining the wall. Why were they here?

"Step into my office, child." She gestured to one of the rooms set back in a cluster of offices. Hers was the largest one.

Vyntyr stepped into the office and looked around. Skeletons, charts and diagrams adorned the room, but it all seemed very clinical instead of frightening. The girl looked around and sighed softly as the pain in her body began to turn into sharp agony. She should be resting...

"Take a seat, child." She took her own seat behind a large desk, keeping her 'eyes' on Vyntyr.

The girl stepped across the room and sat in a comfortable chair, her body almost sighing audibly as she got off of her feet.

"Start from the beginning."

That would be easy... If Vyntyr knew the beginning. "Well... I don't really know. I have always been in the Jedi Order. That's as much as I know..."

"They must have provided some explanation for your condition."

Vyntyr nodded. "Well, yeah... They told me that I was found in a crash site. An escape pod that lost integrity and was destroyed. I was the only survivor, and I was seriously injured by the wreck. They said they knew I was Force sensitive because I had survived with those wounds, and recovered from the surgery."

Leyren nodded. "And did they venture any guesses as to how you might have survived such an incident?"

She frowned. "Well, they said that I must have used the Force to sustain myself, instinctively. Do you mean like what exactly I did to survive? I couldn't tell you. I don't remember any of it at all..."

The woman raised her hand understandingly "No, that's alright. It may remain a mystery. But that wreck splintered you. It wounded you, and to this day you have not recovered... It must cause you no end of pain..."

Vyntyr sighed. She wasn't going to lie to a member of the Council. "The scars hurt, but I'm good at other things. I just have to be careful about being too... Physical. I'll make a good Jedi, I know it." She was worried that the Master might call off her training. Might ship her to the service corps. Vyntyr couldn't handle that.

The woman smiled and nodded understandingly "Undoubtedly you will make a great Jedi. I'm sure that with training, you can overcome your wounds. I merely wanted to check and see if you were alright."

Vyntyr nodded, eager to prove herself now. "I train every day to master the Force, since I'm not very good at combat and the like. I work extra hard to understand the Force. It kept me alive for a reason, I'm sure of it!"

The Miraluka's smile got bigger as she watched the girl. "Do me a favor. Return here tomorrow, after your class has concluded. I may be able to prescribe you something for the pain."

Vyntyr shook her head softly. "It's okay... I'm used to it. It's no big deal."

"Still. If you would return here tomorrow, it would make me happy. I'd like to get to know you better. You seem like a bright and eager young Jedi."

Vyntyr nodded to the Master. "Yes, master. I will come back tomorrow."

"Good. Now, take the rest of the day to rest. No strenuous exercise, okay?"

Vyntyr nodded submissively. "Yes, Master Laro."

The girl returned directly to her room and began to meditate for the rest of the day, listening to Master Laro's instructions and taking a break from complex movements.

Vyntyr was having trouble focusing. The pain that traveled across her body was almost unbearable. She'd pushed herself far too hard today, even though she hadn't done much at all. She sighed... Maybe she should take Master Laro up on her offer. Maybe a medicine to help the pain wouldn't be such a bad thing. But would it really help? Medicines clouded ones mind and could make using the Force more difficult. That's why the Jedi weren't supposed to use alcohol or drugs... But if she took the hit to her Force power, maybe she could be a more physical Jedi. Maybe she could be good at lightsaber combat and could make up for her deficiencies...

Vyntyr imagined herself working and becoming a powerful physical fighter, free to move and leap and run with the other younglings. She'd be able to join in their games and she'd be a more powerful physical warrior for it... But at what cost? She imagined herself becoming so clouded that the Force was untouchable. That despite all her physical abilities, she could not move even a pebble without straining her mind and spirit to their limits. She imagined seeing the world through a cloud. A fog, that obscured her vision and made her thoughts sluggish and clumsy. She could imagine no greater hell.

Vyntyr had always prized her intelligence. Her connection to the Force. She could not imagine life without it. What would she do if she were left without that sense? Without the ability to touch the Force like an old friend? Losing her oldest companion out of a selfish desire to alleviate some small amount of pain? No... No, she couldn't do that. She could not stand to lose the forces that had defined her from childhood. She could not stand to become someone else out of fear. Fear was the path to the Dark Side, and she would not give in to it. She would not fear who she was. She would not try to avoid what she was. She couldn't do something like that.

((Roll is for me to decide what she does))

Vyntyr went to her meeting the next day after her meditations, her breakfast, alchaka, and then her classes. Needless to say her body screamed in agony, but her mind and heart were strong with conviction. She would not accept a medicine that would make her a lesser Jedi. She would not compromise her abilities for comfort.

The Master sensed resolution in the young girl. She could see it as clear as day. But she still had an offer to make. In her hand she held a bottle. She raised a hand to silence Vyntyr before the girl spoke. The master gestured for Vyntyr to have a seat, and looked at her, appraising the girl.

"In my hand I hold the answer to your problem. One of these pills a day will make you completely pain-free. The effects will be immediate, and so long as you continue taking them, you will remain free of the pain that you have so long lived with."

The bottle levitated delicately above the Miralukan's outstretched palm.

Vyntyr watched the bottle, and swallowed. It was so easy. She could be... She could be pain free. She could be... Normal. She licked her lips. Her mouth was dry. She almost reached for it.

The Miralukan allowed the bottle to fall into her hand. "But there are side effects." She twisted the lid open and poured one of the pills into her hand. She held it up between two delicate fingers, showing it to the girl. Such a small white pill was all the answers to her problems. "The drug works by depressing your system. You will no longer feel pain." She paused "But your mind will be depressed, too. You may find it harder to think clearly. Your reactions will be slowed. These things can be compensated, but the side effects can never be erased. It's up to you, Vyntyr. How badly do you want the pain to be gone?"

Vyntyr stared at the pill that was being offered to her.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 27, 2015 10:43 am

((Holy s**t cutting it close, were we?))

The girl reached a trembling hand out and took the pill in shaking fingers. She almost dropped it. It was so small. But it represented a new life. One where she didn't have to be afraid of making the wrong move or of not being able to fulfill her duties as a Jedi... One where she could be free to make her decisions based on what she wanted to do, and not what she was able to do. There were tears in her eyes as she bit her lip and placed the pill back in Master Laro's hand. "I-... I can't. I can't take that, Master Laro. Thank you, but... I just can't."

Master Laro took the pill back, and watched the girl, concern on her face. "Are you sure? You seem upset."

Her conviction grew as the pill was taken away. "Y- yes. I'm sure. It's not worth losing who I am to become what I may not want. I... I have worked hard for who I am now, and I just can't give that up for a fear of pain. Thank you, Master Laro, it's very generous, but I can't accept your offer.

Master Laro flashed what could have been a smile for a moment before mastering herself again. "Tell me, child... How much does it hurt?" her face was inquisitive.

Vyntyr could feel the pain now, like she couldn't before. Being so close to having it be gone... It hurt so much more now. "It's hard to say... I... I don't know how to say it."

Master Laro waved a hand and the door to her office closed and locked. "Would you mind showing me your scars, child? I am curious about them."

Vyntyr swallowed. What the Master was asking was an extremely personal question... But she said it so clinically. Vyntyr was torn between her own modesty and her respect for a member of the High Council. "Uh..."

"Trust me, child, it's alright. If you don't want to, you don't have to."

Vyntyr swallowed again. She made a decision. She had no reason to distrust Master Laro. "N-no. It's okay. You can see them..." She didn't know why she trusted Master Laro enough to do this, but it might have had something to do with her not even having eyes to see the girl. Vyntyr had never showed anyone what was left of her body...

She closed her eyes and, with trembling hands, unwrapped her sash, shrugging off her outer robe and taking a deep breath before shrugging off her inner robe, exposing her pale white flesh to the clinical light of Master Laro's office.

Master Laro stood and her face --what Vyntyr could see of it-- was compassionate. "Oh, child..."

Vyntyr's entire body was a patchwork of flesh, knitted together by scars that crisscrossed her flesh like red stitching. She felt the Master get closer and hold her hands to hover over Vyntyr's flesh.

The Master paused. "May I?"

Vyntyr nodded before the Master delicately placed her fingers on Vyntyr's bare skin, tracing one of the scars as it journeyed across the young girl's mangled body. She shivered at the contact, but what could have been unsettling was not perceived as intimate, but rather scholastic. She allowed the doctor to inspect her entire body, growing gradually more comfortable with what might have otherwise been an invasion of privacy.

The Master nodded, satisfied and motioned for Vyntyr to put her clothes back on. "You're sure you don't want the medicine?"

Vyntyr sighed and nodded one more time. "I'm sure."

Master Laro smiled, then.

Vyntyr frowned, almost thinking she was being laughed at. "What's funny?"

"Oh, nothing. Nothing. How would you like it if I told you there was another way? A way to use your strengths to balance out your weaknesses?"

Vyntyr was still frowning. "I would ask you to explain..."

She dropped the pretense. "I have been given permission from the High Council to personally instruct you. You are not being made a padawan, you are still an initiate, you will still face your trials. Think of this not as a promotion, but rather as... Extra credit."

Vyntyr was smiling, modesty gone out the window. "Really!? You'd be willing to teach me?"

"I am now. Are you prepared to learn?"

Vyntyr dropped to her knees, ignoring the pain that wracked her as she did so. "Absolutely, Master Laro. I will do anything you say."

"Good. I trust you will. We will begin tomorrow. Directly after class, you will meet me at the private meditation chambers and we will begin your lessons."

Meditation for attunement
1

The next day, Vyntyr was excited to get started with master Laro, but she channeled that energy into her daily routine and moved herself through her meditation and pre-class exercises. at breakneck speed, as if moving faster now would make class get over with sooner. What ultimately happened was that after breakfast, alchaka, and meditation, she was waiting in an empty room for class to begin. Vyntyr sat and bounced, trying to burn nervous energy. She couldn't believe it. She was going to be taught by a master! A master on the High Council! Well... She guessed that that wasn't new. She was often taught by masters. But not personally. Not specifically. Not exclusively. She took a breath and sat down, deciding to meditate and try to calm herself down so she could make it through class.
