Death came. A colossal maw that swallowed them up like prey, rendered all their struggles futile. But with it came hope, they were intact, they were alive, they had another chance to make this right.
At first all he'd been interested in was combat, attacking the first thing that came near him. This time his concern was anything but. Mark was alive, the others were alive, he could only have faith that meant Jordan was too - he hadn't seen the other man at the start of their encounter.
<Ferr.> Tracey sounded exhausted, not even bothering to use his kind voice, raw and unguarded.
<> he said << It won't happen again >>
Seeking out Harrison he latched onto his wrist. He hoped he remembered and at the same time did not. "I think." he said shakily. "We are gaunnae need to do that research." They might not get another chance.

Nevada hissed as she looked around. Where Jake and Sherry were...disappeared and she was back with Tuck and Stormy on the top of the hill.
"Jake...Jake!" The mist huntress ran over to the Death hunter and looked at him. One piece...he was in one piece. And then she narrowed her eyes and punched him in the face.
And then she looked for Sherry because the lifer deserved to know. "And you better ******** weep to Sherry for keeping your goddamn innards in where they belong."
Man this was bad, so very bad. And she was so confused...So very ******** confused because she was thinking she like needed to do something but..Jake and Stormy were alive again and all she could think was keeping them that way.
"What's our plan? What do we do with our second chance?" Not bum rush horseman would be the best.

Reason #342 why Gale Gentry really hated the Sahara.
It was hard to breathe, hard to see, hard to think. Gale closed his eyes behind the goggles and lifted a hand to press against the headset covering his right ear, his fingers, slightly trembling pressing down on a button, and then another to change the frequencies.
"Lightning, you better bloody well be all right. And Jake you better bloody well be alive too and have your arse in gear again, you git."

Ceres was prepared for anything at this point, so the giant maw that came up and swallowed them just... "What the hell." That she was not expecting, not in the least. She stared down at herself, blinking and only realizing no it was not just her, as everyone else had the same looks. Looking around, she realized that EVERYONE was not only alive, but kicking. Jordan wasn't a monster, Mark was back, Mimsy was not chowfood... Plus her ankle no longer hurt. Without a seconds thought she moved towards the Death assistant, and stood next to Dakota and whomever else was close by. It seemed to her that protecting Mark as he worked was the best way to get the hell out of here...maybe?

What... What the <********> just.. I'm alive. She looked all around. Mimsy. Alive. Jordan, Stormy.. Alive. She was wearing her coat again. Her back was unharmed. Her side undamaged. Her legs unscathed. What the ******** what had killed Mimsy and Stormy before? And Jordan was an easy fix: stay the ******** away from Invictus. Rep and Harrison could take care of that, right? She shot a glare toward the horsemen, recalling Aisa's words right before the leviathan's appearance. "I'm fine!" She called out to Dakota when she heard her name, eyes narrowed. "You're not dead anything, Dakota. I won't let her touch you." Mine. She gestured for Dakota to come to her, her mouth set in a deep frown. "We need to stay close and get the portal back up without Mark dying this time." All that ******** s**t, all that pain, only for it to be reset. Candace was grateful but sometimes she hated having her head messed with. "Was there anything anyone did that didn't go wrong and kill someone?" Somehow... he was... The pain was gone, there was no scar, no bleeding, no spike protruding through half his body. He was... fine?
... And then he got punched in the face. "OW Nevada, what the hel-" ... Sherry? What did Sherry have to do with thi- OH s**t, STORMY.
Leaving behind Nevada, he wasted no time locating the mist trainee and bent down, arms wrapped around her waist as he hoisted her over his shoulder and ran as far away from the spikes as possible.
HELL no, he was not going through that again nope.

Aisa remembered insanity-- Lost into insanity, her crystal blacker than Death. That was the end of insanity, that was the end of her conscious thought--
-- If it all got too far again, Aisa would become stone. The increasing, overabundant levels of insanity would eclipse everything.
Then, Aisa would never get the chance to meet Sir Death again. Was this one of the endings he had envisioned?
It was only for a fleeting moment but in Aisa's eyes, was the ghoul before she became marked by insanity. But they hardened, as their cold claws gripped her heart once more, bringing back the Protector. A warning-- This experience was a warning, as to what would happen if insanity took over. Aisa had to make sure it wouldn't repeat again, since she didn't plan for her existence to end quite so soon.

They had not died. She had not expected them to -- she didn't want them to die quickly, anyway -- but playing with them had not satisfied the disquieting madness for bloodlust. Landing with a whirlpool of sand, the Protector growled deep in the back of her throat, stalking like a wild animal towards Al as the hunter crawled out from the sand. Despite the chaos going on around them, despite how Aisa relentlessly beat the hunters who tried to escape, Eris' attention focused on the dark-haired hunter as if he had a target on his back, her eyes unwavering. She would kill him. Because he was there. Because he attacked Invictus. Because she desperately needed something to satisfy the pain which burned like acid in her muscles, her blood boiling in her veins.
Except the soothing balm did not come from the black flames which engulfed her hands. It came from the smooth, soothing voice just to her right. Swiveling her head slowly in his direction, War's Protector met Invictus' stare, her twisted expression smoothing out a little, her eyes unnarrowing. His tone was like a cool, refreshing stream, gentle, steady... nothing like the fire she fed on, which was her lifeblood. He stood there, his hand extended to her, and in that instant she abandoned Al completely, her own hand reaching to clasp his, going to his side, her fury starting to ebb.
In the next few moments, there was a flurry of activity. Al attacked her, and she spun around, hissing at him, about to lunge. The sand shifted, and a great mouth came up to swallow them completely.
And then everything reset.
Eris stood beside the three other Protectors again, the four of them shoulder to shoulder, once again staring out at the hunters which dotted the sand.
"Invictus?" She questioned, less distressed and more confused, looking to him after a moment and cocking her head to the side.Saliru ROFL sorry, not much of a response... suddenly there was a lot going on. Quote: HP: 150?/150 Target: -- Damage: -- FEAR: Y3 Gambler's Chance, Y2 The Chill

Harrison summoned B0nez, a dumb, relieved smile making its way to his face through the shell-shock.
He found Jordan first, trying to make eye contact.
You okay? We're okay. Come over here. Steer clear of the guy in dress.
"Let's start with the dissections," Harrison said, swinging B0nez into one of the spines.
Harrison was not good at dissections.

Sherry blinked as the sand whipped into her face, and then stopped as abruptly as it had begun. She was shaking. They had just died in some sand-trap-monster thing or something. All of them. It had-- But it hadn't. She was standing where she was when this started. She could see the spikes, the sun, the runes. Either it had been a nightmare, or it was somehow happening again. Her nightmares consisted of death and pain, but this case of deja vu was way too intense. Sherry looked at her hands. There was no blood. Jake. She looked up, her eyes searching. Nevada, Jake, Stormy. Hadn't Nevada said that name to the creature that.... Sherry shook her head, and then looked for them. Spotting Jake was never hard, and she was more than pleased to see that Nevada had already found him. "Oh, holy hell. Jake!" She didn't give a rat's bum what he thought at that moment as she joined him and Nevada. Just in time to see her punch him, and him march off. "That arrogant a**." Sherry turned to Nevada. "That...was that real? What happened before? Are we doing it again?" Sherry was relieved and confused and she wasn't even sure what she felt. "Thanks, for before."

Everything happened so quickly that it was like that feeling you get when you feel that you will fall in your sleep. Giving a soft gasp for air, she looked around, feeling a sick sense of déjà -vu, a hand lightly lifted to press on her brow for a moment.
Mismatched eyes looked around, first to see if it was very much a reset of a sort, catching the form of Stormy, whole again without a scratch on her. Part of the Horsewoman felt calmed by the sight, whilst the rational side figured that she didn't do a good enough job this time.
Feeling watched, she turned away after a moment, looking around before catching a mis-matched pair from across the renewed battleground, Mengyao standing in the sand, watching for her. Part of her just wanted to puff up and look away from him immediately, a linger discourse from his recently decision to ignore her very being, but the more mature side of her decided that without everyone on the same page, they would just relive this horrid timeline over and over.
Sighing through her nose, she gave him a little shrug, and a questioning glance.

Rep went with Harrison, directly to the spines to help him out, summoning Tracey in a flourish and polishing off the one he "softened up" for him. Yes. He hadn't just hacked it ineffectually
"You helped." Rep said as kindly as he could manage, but couldn't help the teasing smirk of relief.

There was no reason he should have been alive - any of them should have been alive. The moment the portal re-deposited him in the sand, Lucky ground his heels into it and stayed right where he was. He checked his hands, his jacket, for blood that had vanished along with the gruesome death that had failed to claim him. Mimsy was alive, Stormy was alive, and even Song seemed confused and worried. The same conversation echoed in his ears as it had seemingly minutes ago. The same situation, and it seemed like everyone else was just as confused, because it wasn't playing out the same way any more. After double and triple checking that Mimsy was indeed nowhere near the pillars, he spotted Stormy and Jake and made a beeline to wherever they were going. It was a safer place to be than out in the open where they had died horribly. For safety's sake, he raised Piosenka's blade to shield the mist trainee from any unexpected dangers. "You are alive??" he remarked incredulously to the both of them. HP: 40/40 DEFENDING: Stormy for 4 Charges: 0/3 Items: Runic Bandages, Trapping Gun

One minute people were dying and the next--they were back to right where they started. It was though time just relapsed and gave them a chance to do things over. To make it right.
"Not to look a gift horse in the mouth but... What the hell just happened?" To honest, the idea of it was shocking. While everything was back to the way it had started, the vivid memories remained. Some would think of it as a curse. Meant to haunt them. Ryan saw it as a guide. To help them avoid making the same choices that had led to the disasters they surely would have met and in fact did, before time reset. He was not going to waste this chance and make the same mistake twice.
Immediately, Ryan ran to the death assistants side, taking on a stance that could have just as easily turn defensive, as it would offensive.
"You better not die twice."

Teeth, sand, death. It all came swinging up and around again, the heir's fingers barely brushing over those of the War Goddess' before teeth snapped shut, fins flared, and it was dark. He tasted Death for a brief moment - but not nearly for the first time in his long spanning life. Whether that was innuendo or not he would not be saying.
But the sand swept past them again and when he opened his eyes again he was standing out on the sand again, shoulder to shoulder with the girls. He looked to each of them for a long moment, his hand brushing over the side of Eris' in a lingering desire to finish that touch that had been stolen from them, then one for Aisa, and a long lingering look for Cymbeline before he looked out into the sand.
Then up at the marble spires.
Then the sickle shaped shadow.
"Is this your doing, time keeper?" he asked aloud. He remembered that room, the twisting clock of time and space. While Invictus may not have met the being - he did know they existed.
