There wasn't much that could stop The Nameless mid-slash, especially not a piece of wood on a scythe, but Ruuvan supposed these Reapers wouldn't be that easy to remove.

So, with the weapon now held in place and the scythe coming down for another beheading, Ruu quickly shifted his weight and pushed himself backwards, jumping slightly into the air from a crouched stance and putting a distance between the two. Not even before his second foot planted back onto the ground had the bow been removed from his back and an arrow chosen seemingly at random was notched on the string. A brief flash to when he first got the bow now filled his mind, questions being asked of the bow and how to use it, but this time it seemed to be done by instinct and will more than actively choosing. In an instant the string was pulled back further than any regular bow would go, the wood showing no signs of strain as the string emitted sounds of something near breaking; this was going to go fast.

Aiming directly at the Reaper with the Elemengal eye aiming for the torso, Ruuvan let the arrow fly towards his target. Miniature shockwaves would be seen as the object shot the short distance to the Reaper, each one emitting from the arrow becoming larger than the last until it came within one foot of his attacker. The arrow disintegrated, seemingly doing nothing, but the shockwaves continued forward and would send anything in their path hurtling backwards towards a wall, or possibly out of a window and to an untimely doom, namely the Reaper Ruu had aimed for.

:: There would be a visible warble in the path of the blade, as it just barely missed yet again, the air dividing as reality itself was almost cleaved. The blade flung to the right, and immediately the Reapers hands switched positions as it lunged and jumped forward and up and began to slash again in the opposite direction.

The scythe blade reached ever closer, just a mere inch from Ruuvans face when the shot went off. As if an unseen force had tugged the Reaper back down, the arrow shot forward into it and shot it back down, smashing the doorway to bits and sending the Reaper spiralling into the Reaper behind him and into the opposite end of the hall, smashing a huge imprint in the wall.

There wasnt a sound of agony or even a "oomph", as the being was struck. And just a second or two after it had impacted the wall, it was already peeling itself out of the wreckage as 2 more reapers moved into the ravaged doorway.

D, was yet still frozen. ::

"RUN."

The word seemed to echo throughout the room, the hallway, and even from outside the windows. Every object in the room seemed to resonate with the sound of it, and even the reapers seemed to be screaming the word. But this was not the case, it was nothing outside of them that had said it but something inside the both of them. Something deep within their own souls that knew, as instinct, that this was not a battle they could ever hope to win.

A voice inside telling them to run like hell.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 13, 2006 1:29 pm

Ruuvan had another arrow notched, one placed on the string not long after the first left his bow, and he drew back and aimed at the Reaper as it flew back and out of the room. However, this one was not going to do them any harm, it was merely a security measure. With the doorway in pieces and the first two Reapers out of the way, Ruu let the second arrow land into the overhead support of the door with a pleasant thunk, a seemingly organic process taking place next where the wood extended sharply downwards in an attempt to seal the hole, hacking bits away would only serve to slow nature taking hold, but the temporary shield wouldn't last long.

With a barricade in place, Ruu quickly looked around the empty room as a voice sounded from everywhere telling them to run, something he had in mind to do right that moment.
"D!" Notching another arrow on the bow, Ruu quickly pulled the plate-clad figure to his side, not forgetting The Nameless that had landed nearby, and aimed the arrow downwards, "Stay with me, kid." Making sure he was no longer frozen, even though he did want him to stay in place, Ruu released the arrow and looped his arm under D's. A circle of light radiated from where the arrow landed, immediately surrounding the two and burning brightly. In the next instant the ground gave way, the section of floor they were standing on acting as their own personal lift as they descended rather quickly downwards. Ruu didn't know how many floors the magic would go through, but as long as it got them off this one then that's all he needed, however landing on the ground floor was his aim.

: biggrin snapped awake, as Ruuvan jerked him, that shouting voice telling him it was time to take flight. Though without wings, flight meant, jumping behind Ruuvan. The giant suit of armor, behind the elf. A funny sight but now wasnt the time for laughts.

As the arrow struck the ground literally quaked. Its structural integretity weaking, seeming no where near fast enough as the Reapers were closing in fast. They moved as if they had eternity, as if all the cards were already stacked on there side so there was no need to rush. With a swipe, the Reaper meant to impale Ruuvan and D on his blade before, with a loud crunch, the ground fell. The Nameless flipping into the air along with sheath, as the floor fell. With a crunch, it slammed into the floor below, crushing it, and sending a few people scattering and screaming from there living room. The sound of metal arching and bending filled the air. As the Reapers dove into the hole, seemingly able to glide through the open air as they made there way for Ruuvan, a single Reaper swinging just as the floor gave again, his blade innocently cleaving a section of wall in twain.

By the third floor the falling landscape had gained momentum, and spent little more than seconds at each floor, but the Reapers were closing in. Unfortunately, the breaks were precise each break sent them closer on more of angle, before finally with a loud crash the chunks of flooring smashing into the elevator shaft, smashing it open with there sheer wieght and flipping Ruuvan and D inside the big open shaft. The Nameless and its sheath free falling behind them, with the Reapers not far behind that.

Despite this being Heaven, something in Ruu's gut might inform him that impacting the ground would not aid his escape.::

With his legs bent to absorb as much of the impact with each fall, Ruuvan maintained his balance as the two descended through the building and maintained a watchful eye on the pursuing reapers. Then it happened, a slide in their trajectory leading them straight into the elevator shaft and now free falling as opposed to being on a platform; there was only one thing Ruu could think of to stop them crashing into the bottom or perhaps a lift coming the opposite way.

So, notching yet another arrow mid-flight as if he were standing still, Ruuvan watched with his Elemengal eye for a platform they could land on. As they closed in on it, whatever their 'net' would be, Ruu let the arrow fly and watched as it erupted in a green fountain-like explosion, a strong gust of what felt like wind slowing their descent as they landed with gently on the surface. Where was he? He had no idea, but the Nameless and D had been caught by the same effect and were placed at his side. Maybe the Reapers left and thought them lost to the fall? Wishful thinking to say the least, so he quickly assessed their location and notched up another arrow, aiming the bow upwards to see what the Reaper situation was; if all else failed, they had Joshua to pull them out surely.
"Ideas?!" He exclaimed to no one in particular, hoping D or even the bow might have something to say before their next course of action.

::The shaft was clearly empty. There were no outcroppings, no ledges or walls, just a free fall. The same technology that let the lift float, the elevators glide through the shafts without grinding, screeching, or touching the inner walls with anything but light. This was a smooth hole, straight down. The only breaks, being the preferations in the shaft for the doors for each floor.

The arrow fired, sure enough, but directly afterwards a voice rang out in Ruuvans head. It was a clear voice. Very honest, very stern, and very familiar::

ARE YOU MAD?!

::His bow screamed at him, as his arrow fell into the darkness.::

Those things are practically breathing down our necks, if we slow down in mid air now we're fleebed!

:: D was screaming. Was it exstatic pleasure!? The thrill off the fall?! Was it absolute terror?! Who knows, all we knew was that it was D, and he was screaming. And we knew, that in the depths of this seeming bottomless pit something was moving up....fast. Something which looked like a metal box, surrounded by a white glow which seemed to be propelling it upwards...fast. If Ruuvan shot that same arrow now, they'd likely be blown right INTO the waiting Reapers...but there had to be away...some way?! But what? He couldnt just give up after coming so close could he?::

So they were behind them. Ruuvan was mainly concerned about the fall presented in front of him to look back at a second possible demise, so it was good to know she had been keeping at eye out for him, but now there was a third demise, one to replace the fall, coming directly towards them; lifts were so unreliable until you didn't want them.

Taking two arrows from the quiver this time, Ruuvan brought one of the fathers to his lips and tore it off to adjust the trajectory once it was in flight. He quickly notched them both and drew the string back, waiting and watching the lift get closer until the moment when they could escape and leave the Reapers to catch an express trip. After what seemed like ages the string plucked forward, both arrows flying towards the lift before breaking off in separate directions and landing on opposing walls; the left one, being on the side which lead to the apartments, completely destroyed the wall and left a hole in place of the marble finish, the second erupted in a shower of green forming a directional gust of wind. Ruuvan, D, the bow and The Nameless were immediately flung through the hole and would skid a few feet along the shiny surface before coming to a stop, the lift hopefully missing them by an inch and ramming straight into the Reapers before they could make it in.

Quickly getting back on his feet and sliding the bow onto his back, Ruu picked up The Nameless and made sure D was ok.
"You alright? We need to move" What floor they were on would be anyone's guess, this building was huge after all, so their next plan of action could hopefully be thought about unless the Reapers were right on their tale again.

:: Thunk thunk!

The sound of dual arrows pinning into seperate targets. The shot had to be perfect, if he struck the door to low he'd just dent it, if he struck it to far in the center it'd simply dent forward making a razor sharp edge for them to be flung into. On the other side of the same coin, if he hit the wall at the wrong angle he could be flung into the oncoming elevator, or flung and pinned against the wall above, below, or beside the doorway instead of through. The very idea was suicidal at worst, insane at best.

That exactly why it worked.

The door tore open as if a giant wind drill had struck it and shredded it, and just as they reached close enough to smell the elevator grease the gust shot them through the opening. The move cutting so very close that sparks could be seen from the feet of D's armor grinding against the elevator as it zoomed past.

With a gently woosh the Nameless soured through the air, its sheath hitting a piece of debris allowing it to stay propped up for just a second longer, and allowing the blade to rotate in mid flight, sheath itself with a distinct "snap", and fall to the ground.

D was in state of complete shock staring up at the ceiling, not exactly sure what had just happened. It was the sort of shape a normal man would have been in, or any sane man...Ruuvan however, was an elf. And elves, never loose there cool.

Ruuvan
"You alright? We need to move."

He said so very calmly. D, was still trying to piece together the events of the last few seconds, so simply nodded and stood somewhat shakily. The Reapers were no where to be seen, had they been defeated? Had they given up? There were no clues but something in his deep memory told Ruuvan that that, could not be all.::

And it was after that distinctive snap to show that it was secured that Ruuvan picked it up, placing it on his back alongside the bow as D clambered to his feet and got himself situated. He would later contemplate how in the hell he managed to make that shot and how they had survived this long against the Reapers and a deadly fall, but not now.

Taking a moment to make sure the Reapers hadn't made it, which it appeared they hadn't, Ruuvan figured he had bought them a few minutes to decide their next course of action, but it'd have to be a stealthy job from now on to avoid getting more of them on their tail. A weak thought in the back of his mind slowly crept forward: Why didn't the Reapers make an attempt to go for D; were more coming for him, was he immune, did he... belong here? Too much thinking and not enough doing pushed this one back into the depths of his mind.
"What's the quickest way to the arena from here?" What floor were they on? Ruu took a moment to look for some indication before returning his gaze to D, hoping he was together enough to answer the question and help the plan get moving.

:: D just pointed, straight ahead. All the way down the hall, through the window at what looked like a gigantic colluseum, with several people visible flying and fighting over it. If anything could earn the title "Hall of Champions", this was it. The place just bled the idea that this was where the really strong go to play. But before any moments of awe, or such could be built up or fade, Ruuvans view was blocked, as a door down the hall opened and a man exited a room, followed by an angel with flowing wide beautiful feathering wings. She was beautiul, from her nearly radiant blonde locks, to white sandaled feet. Meanwhile D, was trying to think.::

So I can see anyone?!

Um....

::She nodded with a bright smile on her face in responce to the eager noobie beside her.::

Umm....

Yes, you can even locate family members that preceeded you and are currently elsewhere in the city.

::He practically jumped into the cieling in joy::

Even my Grandma Millie!?

Um...

::She smiled from ear to ear and giggled just a bit.::

Yes, even your Grandma Millie, shall I show you wear to find the Watching Well?

Oh wait! No no...dats de well...

::His eyes widened like a little kid on X-mas morning, and he nodded furiously. And in the end D turned to Ruuvan looking a bit saddened by his failure, and simply said.::

I dunt remember, I only been there once....

::Just as the Angel and her guest were about to turn the corner she paused letting her ward walking a few steps ahead of her while she stopped and stared right back down the hallway...directly at Ruuvan. For a split second she looked concerned before the concern jumped to a bright smile followed by a nod as she looked just a bit past him, and she continued on her way.

Meanwhile, directly behind Ruuvan, audible to anyone, especially those with good ears, there was a distinct sound of metal grinding coming from the elevator shaft, as something jossled and shook and knocked the floor sign reading "93", to the ground.::
PostPosted: Sat Nov 18, 2006 11:29 am

Ruuvan froze as the door opened, waiting to see if it was another Reaper coming for him, but he soon relaxed and exhaled heavily as an Angel and recently passed away person stepped from the door; definitely a strange sight for someone who had never been to Heaven before. From the way D was talking, it sounded like he had lived in Heaven, which would mean he was dead, so how did he appear on Gaia? Urgh, too much thinking and not enough doing. The woman looking directly at him jolted the Ranger back to reality, quickly turning his head as the metal grinding got louder and the floor sign became visible: 93 floors? No way was he taking the lift again, after all they had remained untouched before they went into the lift in this building and then the Reapers appeared, so they were now off limits in his mind.

Even if Heaven the buildings must've had stairs, if not in case of hazards which probably never occurred, then perhaps for the person who prefers a calming walk up and down a multi-storey building... yea, that made a lot of sense. Still, sarcasm aside, Ruuvan nodded to D and started down the hall away from the lift in an attempt to find an alternate route down and out of the building, taking a moment to look across at the Arena and admire the aerial ballet between the two combatants.

::The floor continued for another 500ft and then made a 90 degree turn to the right. At the right it continued again for another 500ft and then made another turn, and so forth, and so on, in a loop until it reached another elevator door with an arrowhead stuck poking out of it. What Ruuvan might notice is the stair way in the center of each hall, placed there for just the reason Ruuvan might expect, preference. Some people simply prefered to take the stairs and stay in shape. Some people actually enjoyed work. What he would also notice the moment he entered the stairway, was this loud thumping. To the normal human ear it would sound like an engine churning, but to a trained elven ear thhe sound would be far more terrifying. Ruuvan, was bearing audible witness to the sound of what must have been a dozen or two feet, wearing the same boots, marching in cue.

If he was brave enough to look down the spiral stairs he would infact see, a very large number of Reapers making there way up. They were about 6 floors down now, but they were by no means slow, and they were following a squad of 4 floating Reapers one floor above them. This, quite simply, was NOT the place to be.::
PostPosted: Sat Nov 18, 2006 6:22 pm

Taking only two seconds to look either way, not taking any longer to admire the scene of Reapers marching in unison, Ruuvan straightened up and practically ran back to the elevator to push the button. How long would it take? He hoped it would be immediate like the train had been, immediate for the people wanting a certain stop and whatnot, so they wouldn't be exposed too long, even so he drew the bow and held an arrow in place just in case.
"Come on, damn technology." A bow was far more simple; pull back, aim and fire. No chance of jamming, no internal error to knock it off course, simple Elven reflexes to get the job done.

As soon as the doors opened, given the fact no Reapers decided to pay them a surprsie visit, Ruu hurried in and waited until D was at his side to press the button for the ground floor. More waiting, more watching, more chance of the Reapers catching them off guard, the fact they didn't seem to be after D looming over him heavier than before - what was going on?!

:: Now the elevator shaft was dark, but that odd grinding sound hadnt stopped. Ruuvan slammed the button, but nothing seemed to happen. No churning no nothing, though after a second or two of pause there was a clamorous crash as the elevator was seen hurdling down the shaft. It was as it if suddenly cut loose and left to free fall. That grinding sounded more familiar, it was similar to the sound one might hear when sharpening their swords, the sound of grinding against a blade. If Ruu looked up, he might see it, the signt of two dozen glowing eyes staring back at him. Reapers, moving down the shaft.

There was only a minute or two before the Reapers reached this floor. All Ruuvan had left was the many apartments doors, and the large window on the east side of the building. Time, was most definately a factor.::
