Etch: -Swimming around in his bucket/pond, making little bubbles.-
Baubles: -tilts his head at the kit- ... -slowly walked up to him, crouching, and peeking up over the edge of the bucket at him- ... ^o.o>
Etch: -He looked up when a shadow fell over his bucket. His dark blue fur was suddenly speckled with ghostly glowing blue dots. A similar glow came from his eyes, making them look a multi-shade of blue rather than the pitch black they actually are. He stared at the adult staring at him, then, without warning, shot a jet of water towards the adult's face.-
Baubles: -lets out a tiny yelp from surprise, ducks, shakes his fur, and peeks over again- That wasn't nice... -reaches a paw into the water and puts his dripping paw gently on the kits face, tail wagging-
Etch: -Wiggles and dives down to the bottom of the bucket to avoid the paw, then quickly shoots up for a breath of air. He deliberately made sure to splash the adult as he dove back down in the water, giving the paw warning nibbles to chase it out of his territory.-
Baubles: -almost yelps again, and again ducks down- Feisty little critter, huh?~ -peeks over the bucket again-
Etch: -He lurked down at the bottom, peering up at the strange adult. He was very brightly colored, and there were these dangly things on his face... Etch sneakily drifted closer to the surface, wondering what those dangly things might taste like.-
Baubles: -watching the kit carefully, twitching his whiskers as he observed- ^o.o^
Etch: -He tensed, then with a powerful wiggle leapt from the water and latched on to one of the dangly things. He didn't bite it, he just had a firm grip on the thing with his mouth. Hmmmm, it tasted a bit like he did. How delightfully odd! Etch released the dangly thing and dropped back into the water, circling down at the bottom of his bucket happily while he contemplated what he'd just learned.-
Baubles: -Baubles tried to catch the kit when he latched on to his whiskers, but he slipped through his paws- Kiddo! Those are my whiskers, they're attached! -he bats lightly at the water where the kit dove back in-
Etch: -He peered solemnly up through the water at the male. He was speaking, but Etch couldn't really make sense of the fuzzy vibrations that reached him through the water. His tone sounded upset though. Did the adult not like people tasting the dangly thingies on his face? Etch flew a curiously bubble of air at the adult.-
Baubles: -sighs, smiling- Hm... -ducks down, starts nudging the bucket with his nose- Teehee~
Etch: -He started swimming in the rapid little circles that meant danger or on alert at the bottom of his bucket as his whole little pond began shifting on him. The virbrations jolted from the bottom of the tough plastic to shiver through his body while the water began sloshing around, even if it was only a little bit. This was new, and he wasn't entirely sure he liked it!-
Baubles: -giggling, baubles stopped and crouched down, waiting to see if the kit would peek out and see what he was up to-
Etch: -He paused for a moment to get his bearings when the world finally went still. Carefully he made a circle of his bucket, looking around. Spotting what he was looking for, Etch made a sudden rush forward and used his paws to bounce off the side of the bucket where he could see the shadow of the adult's face.-
Baubles: -Baubles grinned at the kit, placing a paw up at the spot he bounced off of, and pushed a little to stir the water ever so slightly-
Etch: -He frowned under the water; this adult wasn't gonna win! He opened his mouth and took in a huge gulp of water, then darted to the surface, hooked his paws over the side and hauled himself up, and dumped his entire mouthful of water on the head of the adult.-
Baubles: -His ears went down, shoulders slumped, and hair plastered down over his face as he was drenched from above. Kid was good. Shaking himself roughly, Baubs trotted off... and came back with bubble bath, which he then dumped the entire contents of into the bucket.-
Etch: -The look he gave the adult would have peeled paint...if he'd been an adult with the proper stature to pull over a scathing look. The intent was still there, it just didn't have nearly a tenth of the power it could have. He had to quickly abandon his bucket before any of the soapy stuff could settle on him; it might not hurt his fur, but it wouldn't do his fins or his eyes any good. He stood, dripping wet and the picture of disgruntlement, debating what to do next. His bucket was ruined, and he hated being out of the water for long.-

Etch: -Swimming around in his bucket/pond, making little bubbles.-
Persephone: *notices movement in a bucket/pond near her and nortices a little noodle swiming around, she supresses the need to chuckle at the cuteness of the bubbles* Hi there, having fun?
Etch: -He couldn't hear exactly what the stranger said, but he felt the vibrations of the approaching adult shuddering up from the bottom of the bucket, and heard a muffled, softer vibration that appeared to be the adult speaking. He swam in a slow circle, eyeing the adult. His eyes were pitch black, but sparkled so much with the bioluminescence that flickered across his body that it was hard to tell. He gave his butt a wiggle and increased the speed of his circling in the bucket; if he'd had a tail, it might have caused a splash of water towards the female. Instead all that happened was a little bit of sloshing before he slowed and continued to eye the female from under the water.-
Persephone: *watched the little kit swim around she figured he probably couldnt hear her and wondered if he was shy. Although his fins suggested that he was an aquatic and maybe he just didnt want to leave the water that much. Besides he looked like he was having a whole bunch of fun and she didnt really want him to stop just to come talki to her*
Etch: -He finally had to come up for air; while he was an aquatic and could stay under water for a long time, the fact remained that he had lungs, not gills. Plus his sudden burst of movement used up more oxygen, shortening the time he could have stayed under. He drifted slowly up to the surface of his bucket, sticking his snout out of the water but keeping the rest of himself submerged as he eyed the adult curiously.-
Persephone: *careful to stay out of his space. While he's a kit she doesnt know if he has a bubble he likes people to stay out of. she eyes him back in a playful manner and almost wants to ask her question on whether he's having fun again. He was definitely pretty cute, but then again all kits where pretty cute*
Etch: -As he refilled his lungs he gave the female a good looking-over. She didn't have a lot of bright colors, her own base tone a bit more similar to his, and those streaks on her were pretty pale. Her hair was pretty bright compared to her body though, and Etch found himself wondering what it would taste like if he nibbled on it. He was unaware that he had been staring intently at the female's hair for well over a minute, contemplating it.-
Persephone: *notices that the kit has been staring at her for a while, although more specifically her hair. she wonders if its out of place or messy then again that normally didnt warrant that much staring*
Etch: -He suddenly ducked back down into the water again, swirling in lazy circles at the bottom and staring up at the female. His face got a pinched look, then suddenly a little stream of water shot up from the bucket.-
Persephone: *looks at the little stream of water shooting up and bats at it to see if she can touch it in time. It was interesting not talking to some one, but at the same time it was kind of fun. The kit was also pretty interesting to watch as well*
Etch: -He drifted a bit closer to the surface and tried another jet, this one going a bit higher than the last. He eyed the adult curiously; it seemed like she found his water jets amusing, though most people thought of them as annoying. Then again, most of the time his water jets where meant as discouraging agents and were aimed at the faces of interlopers.-
Persephone: *kept the kit out of the corner of her eye but also tried to bat at this stream having better luck than the last attempt as her paw barely skimmed the top as it was going back down*
Etch: -She still didn't appear phased. Did splashing bother this adult at all? He drifted even closer to the surface, then sat there for a moment. This time the jet of water he shot came a lot quicker and with a lot less warning than the other two jets had, and he aimed towards her face like he would to repel others.-
Persephone: *got ready for the next stream although noticed it was aimed towards her face, moved back but still got her nose and bangs wet* oh your the little tricktser hmm *stuck out her rolled tongue at him*
Etch: -He grinned, then suddenly surfaced, hooking his paws over the side of the bucket and carefully balancing on the edge.- You're hard to lure. Most land-walkers try to grab at me after I get them wet.
Persephone: well I'm not like most land walkers I guess. I dont think they remember what it was like to be a kit and how to play, although that last one was a good one.
Etch: -He sunk a bit lower in the bucket, resting his chin on the edge.- You don't look like a normal land-walker. You got them things on your back. Don't that make you a sky-walker?
Persephone: Nope I'm not a normal land walker. Oh these *wiggles her wings* those are wings. hmm I guess I would be a sky walker. Although I dont really walk in the sky
Etch: -He didn't shrug, merely stared, but the look of his large eyes was about the equivalent of a shrug.- I don't walk in water either, but I'm a water-walker.
Persephone: ah well I guess I would be called a sky walker then, strange that they add walker at the end of that
Etch: -A slight crease formed between his brows.- It's not strange.
Persephone: I guess it can be seen as unstrange as well. Depends on background I guess. So hows life like in the water all the time. It looked kind of fun?
Etch: -He was puzzled at her question. What was life like it in the water? Wasn't it just...life?- It just is. What else would it be?
Persephone: *has a slightly embarrased look on her face* yeah that was a silly question. If you spent all your time in your bucket/pond it would be hard to explain it. sorry about that
Etch: -He shrugged.- 'Bout the same if I asked you what it was like up in the sky. Dunno that a sky-walker and a water-walker could really tell what sky and water are like so the other gets it. Most of you guys seem pretty pale and unshiney to me, that's all I can tell.
Persephone: Well I walk on both land and fly so I could probably do a slightly better job to some one who is just stuck on land. Maybe one day I'll take up swimming doubt it'll ever get as close to just living in water like you seem to be doing. Doesnt the bucket get a bit small? *is just curious about his choice in homes not meant to be a insult towards the little guys home*
Etch: -He pushed himself away from the edge so that he was back in the water, but he kept his head above the surface and just paddled lightly around in circles.- A little. But when you're little like me you don't want to be in a big pond with all the big fish, or you might get eaten. Better to start off small and move to bigger once I get bigger myself.
Persephone: *chuckles* that is definitely true. Besides the bucket seems to suit you so I guess in the end thats what really matters. *has a random little thought pop into her head* Well thank you for coming up to talk with me. what you'd had to say was very interesting
Etch: -He gazed solemnly at the adult with his large dark eyes flickering with blue glowing from within.- Came up to say I thought you were odd. You must be, to think something like that was interesting.
Persephone: *laughs* yeah probably am alittle odd but then who wants to be entirely normal anyways? its at times dreadfully boring. oh out of curiosity earlier why where you staring at my hair?
Etch: -Looks confused at the question.- It's the only thing about you that's got any bright. -He couldn't explain why bright colors were important, just that they were. He decided not to mention he wondered what that color might taste like though, since that was just a personal quality of his.-
Persephone: *tilts her head and wonders why being bright is so fascinating and why only her hair is considered bright, then again he did mention most others he had seen werent bright? perhaps it was best just to think of it as an aquatic thing * ah I guess it kind of is.
Etch: It is. Trust me, I'm good at spotting bright stuff.
Persephone: *not sure if thats exactly a compliment or not, but she's going to take it a compliemt* ah well then um thank you?
Etch: -He just gave a solemn little nod. To him it was only natural, since having bright colors was a good thing. He couldn't have put into words why it was, only that some part of his mind recognized it as such. It was natural to thank another for recognizing something good about them.-

Once upon a time there were two Noodles, a male and a female. Both were born of water, but they were very different. The female chose to leave the water for land. She was shy and didn’t easily make friends, preferring the company of books instead. The male rarely ever left the water. He developed fan-like fins and could dive deeper and longer than those of his kind, but he too did not make friends easily. Both were often alone, but they were content.
One day the female was out walking, looking for a comfortable place to sit and read her book. By chance the tree she chose to settle under was next to the lake the male called home. She did not know this nor did she notice the male, for she had quickly become entranced in the spell woven by her book, but he noticed her.
Few knew of the male who lurked deep in the waters of the lake, for he rarely showed himself. He would watch hidden just below the surface. Sometimes he would steal trinkets left unattended on the shore, for he was a simple creature and liked to have bits of pretty to line the inside of his den. When the female first came he watched her as well. She never had anything pretty he wished to take, nor did she ever enter his watery domain. She returned often, but she was always alone. He started to become curious, and drifted closer and closer every time.
One day the female settled under the tree in her usual spot and began to read as she always had. So focused on her book was she that she did not see the dark clouds beginning to spread across the sky until the first blast of cold wind hit her. Startled, she looked up; it was only then that she noticed how much darker it had become. Her gaze fell down to the lake and with a thrill of alarm she noticed something large moving under the water close to shore. As she gathered up her book and prepared to flee for shelter she could have sworn she saw a flash of orange, and then the large shadow was gone. The female stayed away from the lake for many days after that, but it was such a good spot to read that finally she convinced herself that her eyes had been playing tricks on her and she returned.
The male was happy when the female returned. He rarely gave much thought to those who visited his lake when they had gone, but he had missed seeing her sitting on the shore with her book. Normally the female would always be looking at her book, but lately she would glance up at the water. The male tried to stay out of sight, but from the way the she would sometimes flinch he was sure the female spotted him. But she never left and he never came forward, so soon there was an unspoken understanding between the two of them. In time the female found it comforting to see those flashes of orange and occasional glows of pale blue, just as the male found a sense of deep content whenever the female returned to visit yet again.
That was what I had written so far. And at one point I think I had all of it written, but that was when I had a computer crash and it killed off all my work >.<
Picking up where the story left off though, the idea was that one day while Harper was reading a storm begins to approach. Absorbed in her book, she doesn't really notice at first, except to maybe shift around a little as the natural light fluctuates. Then the winds really hit and that's when she looks up and sees this huge storm. From there it's a little vague. I was thinking either her book gets blown into the water and she tries to rescue it, but the currents pull it away faster than she can swim (it's a pretty huge lake, after all) and that's when she realizes just how strongly the storm is affecting the lake currents. That or something from the storm, like a tornado or close lightning strikes, paralyze her with fear. Either way, Etchemin comes to her rescue and leads her to safety where they can wait out the storm.
After that Harper continues coming to the lake to read, and though still shy of Etchemin she's not scared of him anymore. Perhaps she even starts to read to him. He's pretty simple, more animalistic and wild, and would find the stories fascinating even if he doesn't completely understand them. [6:57:50 PM] Jinx: From that point it just turns from a strange friendship to a this-is-normal friendship to maybe something more. Etchemin finds Harper interesting and loves hearing her stories and how she doesn't mind telling them to him or explaining things he doesn't understand. [6:59:10 PM] Jinx: And I'm just guessing with Harper here, but maybe he makes her feel safe? Gently pulls her out of her shell and encourages her to do things instead of spending all her time reading, but also loves stories as much as she does. Kind of a protector, but not hovering or controlling.
