Now, with the brunt of the group already after the monkey, Kimaji was in a predicament. She couldn't have kept up with even the slowest of them unless they ran deliberately slowly so she could do just that. At the same time, she hardly wanted to be left behind!
So with an exasperated little sigh, once she was sure things wouldn't be so messy that anyone would step n her, she hurried off along the path made by all the running beast. At least, with no one around, she could make some conspicuously high jumps over obstacles when she needed it, which helped save time. Hopefully she wouldn't end up lost!

As far as outward appearances went, Tahir was one of the worst. Emaciated and flea-bitten, with oily, patchy fur and sunken eyes. He wasn’t much to look at. At least the monkey’s red paint covered the vast majority of his ugliness, as present. He was covered in it from face to tail – having earlier taken a tumble into the muck thanks to a wayward jackal – with one clear monkey-sized hand print across his visage. The paint had the added benefit of smothering his stink. Tahir was not the most hygienic of animals at the best of times.
What he was, was perceptive. He did not miss the lioness’ shudder, but any aspect of himself could have caused that, not to mention the situation they were in. Tahir was desperate to keep himself safe, and if that meant simpering up to a stranger, so be it. Mura was behind him, not too far, but if she could not keep pace she would be of little use to him during this run. Oh, he’d return to her, certainly, once they’d reached their destination.
Tahir pricked his ears at Rimma’s grunt, and answered with a toothy grin of his own. Oily, slick. He swept his tongue against his yellow teeth and leapt on after her. He was careful with his paw placements, clumsy and shuddering in his gait, all of which slowed him down and kept him from catching up with the lioness properly.
“Are you a warrior as well, lioness?” he said, voice low and drawling. If she was, all the better for him. Tahir wanted a good shield when the fighting started, as it inevitably would.
Tahir cast a quick glance over his shoulder, attempting to search out Mura. The more the merrier, as they say.

It seemed like tree climbing lessons were wholly off the table, as the group chased after the half-crazed monkey and left the rather obstinate leopards behind.
Hel considered staying behind briefly - but what if the sorry looking critter was running FROM the monster, instead of toward it? That decided it for him. He put his feet to the dirt, leaping forward and trying to gain on it despite his massive bulk. He did NOT want to be the lasty-lion on this little stroll. He managed to stay toward the middle of the group; near enough to the front to keep an eye on the 'prize' as it were, but far enough behind so as to be able to turn and run the other way in case of danger.
"I know he's a stringy old monkey but..." his stomach grumbled as he trotted along, "can't we just take a bite or two? It's not my prime choice for last meal, mind you, but I don't like facing inevitable peril on an empty stomach."
He made a frowny-maw.

So distracted by the b*****d who was yelling at her brother, Endesha didn't realise Amali had asked her a question until it was too late. And then bodies moved around her, pushing forwards to give chase.
Growling fiercely she turned and bounded after her brother, calling up after him. "I think some people ought to keep their rage for the monster and not vent it at one another!" She sounded so angry that she even surprised herself and had to visibly calm herself down as she crashed noisily through the undergrowth. She had not been listening to the conversation between leopards and lions and thus, did not realise what exactly they were chasing after.
When she discovered it was the monkey, she gave a snarl of frustration and slowed to a halt, scenting the air but finding nothing much of use beyond those around her and the strange red sap the primate had spread across the ground and foliage.
"It's probably climbed up into the trees." She mumbled under her breath.

Haki was moderately slow to react to the monkey's fleeing. He was to consumed in fear to pay heed to what was happening in reality. Arguing with himself as to turn around and try and leave the forest or keep exploring with the group... However, after about half the grouping dashed away, Haki relized he was being left behind. "W-wait up!" he called and applied a heavty burst of speed to attempt and catch up to his travelling buddies.

"Why, in all the bloody hells, are we running after this monkey? It's going to return to its owners eventually," Sandor muttered as he watched people take off after the monkey. He had heard the leopards claim the monkey wasn't their pet, but they treated it like one, or else like an old but useless servant, so he chose to ignore their assertions.
He waited and debated whether he ought to just let everyone run off and continue the hunt on his own. While he lingered he regarded the leopards who had surprised the hunters with their appearance and wondered whether this chase wasn't something they had engineered to get rid of the intruders Sandor and the other hunters represented.
"Hunh," he scoffed finally and set out at a trot to follow the rest of the group. No point in rushing. The pursuit was leaving a trail he could have followed if he'd been blind.

It had become very clear very quickly that Jifumba could never be centre of attention in a group this big. He had attempted to start one of his little games, and it had failed miserably. As a result, the dark grey leopard had returned to the shadows of the canopy, so as to watch everything without anyone else obstructing his sight.
He was careful to keep himself well hidden when they reached the leopard troupe. He didn't see what the big appeal was of living in groups, and so at that point he preferred to keep himself hidden. A low chuckle emanated from the darkness, accompanied by his seemingly endless grin. The antics of the unstable old monkey amused him greatly.
When the monkey took off, he couldn't help but give chase. Although he was surprisingly agile for his chubby frame, he struggled to keep up with...pretty much the entire group. After all, he was travelling through the trees instead of across the ground. Still, it was all in good fun. He couldn't not follow, as he was far too curious to see how everything was going to play out.

As the group ran through the ever thickening fog, it became clear they were not the only ones who had given chase.
Like ghosts a pair of leopards broke through the upper ranks of the group, easily matching paces with Bluu and Haki. When it became apparent the nervous monkey was slowing down, the blue leopard took a moment to explain himself.

"Look, we don't know what's going on in this forest. But, if you are hunting this beast, I'll help you," he said.

"I can fight better than most!" the female agreed.
** Super big thanks to Kael, who donated the second leopard! Spoilertag for cert information and whatnot.
Blue Leopard: This is one of my SOA I am rehoming! He's actually a seer, and is listed as Ed'garde. However you may change his name, and I almost never rped him. His original colorist has departed, so use the misc certing thread.
Brown Leopard: She is colored by Kaelyndra!
The leopards have no real background story. Since the leopard group is an NPC creation, you guys can go ahead and do whatever you want with them after the event! Maybe they decide to travel the world after all this excitement!

With the old monkey stopping, Veru finally caught up to the forerunners of the group. He could be fleet-footed on desert terrain, but this woodland ground was rough on unexperienced paws. At this rate, he was going to be nursing rope burns from vines for the next month! Not to mention whatever caustic substance was in that red goo that still marred his [admittedly fabulous] face.
"Now where did that addled little fellow go?" the white lion mused. They were in a thicket, although you could hardly tell with the great trees stretching out their branches. Veru treaded lightly, remembering the monkey's ominous warning before the chase had begun. So this was the bad place, huh? It didn't look so bad.
At least, not at first.
As the others slowly fanned out to look for the old fellow, Veru moved through the thicket and over a fallen log. It was only then that he could appreciate Ngdere's epitaph. "Over here," he signaled the group.
Past that log and down a grassy slope was a bizarre sight. Several large, giant trees had been knocked to the earth, the trunks splintered into jagged spears. On what trees that hadn't been topped, deep gashes had been dragged into the bleeding bark. The ground was torn up until it was mostly raw soil and stone. The old monkey must have been here at some point, because many of the slashes had been painted in or obscured with red paint.
It wasn't the scene of an attack. This was the scene of rage.
arrow Maybe something around here can tell us what made the monster so mad?
As you search, roll a dice 1-10
1. A broken branch flung against a stone. 2. A bone buried in the disturbed earth. 3. Some of the old monkey's writing. You can't read it, but it seems elaborate. 4. A stone split in two. 5. Nothing of note. Well, other than all the trees all over. 6. A snake slithering by! Better leave him alone. 7. A hidden hole in one of the still standing trees. It looks like something is inside! 8. At first it looks like some of the spilled red paint. Then you realize its actually blood! 9. Nothing of note. Well, other than all the trees all over. 10. A bird nest that fell out of one of the trees. All the eggs are smashed, but it looks like it was deliberate.

Growing up among strange suspicious folks had given Margulis a knack for finding things other had wanted to keep hidden. As she approached the clearing she noted the fallen trees and all of the debris. It made her blood cold as she envisioned what might have happened here. This was certainly no feline gone deranged, it would take something much stronger to have torn up the forest this way. But there, something caught her eye.
Among the wreckage stood a few in tact trees and near the base of them she could spy abnormalities. She approached slowly, trying to keep quiet lest she alarm the others without reason. As she got closer she could see a hole in the bark, natural as far as she could tell. There was something there.
"I think I might have found something," she called out, shimmying onto her belly so that she could dig her paw down into the hole in hopes of fishing out whatever it was. Hidden and protected, it had to be deliberate. Maybe it might even give them a clue for where to go next.
Jahina stared in shock at the scene before them. She wasn't sure where to even BEGIN... She swallowed, then stepped carefully across the invisible line into the carnage. Everything was so... Horrible looking! She swore there was silence all around them, but she wasn't sure. Maybe she was just tuning the birds out... Or maybe they were actually gone from the area, afraid to touch this place that seemed so dark and ANGRY. The orange cream lioness picked a spot, beginning to search as the wing-marked red lion went to another area. She suddenly let out a horrified cry, reeling back. "BLOOD!"
Moshi had started to look, only to get distracted by the cream orange lioness's cry of blood. Okay, that was... Creepy. He went over, ears dropping as he stared at it. "Yeah, that's... Kinda creepy..." He then looked over, noting that someone else had found something a bit more interesting and less disturbing. He abandoned the blood to go over. "What'd you find?"

(since it's a repeat, I'll just pretend nothing was found <3)
Moto'spaki arrived not too long after Veru, and surveyed the sight, somewhat taken aback. Whatever the monster was, it was very big and strong, considering all the damage it had done to this place. He wrinkled his nose as he picked his way about, looking for clues. It all still reminded him of elephants, though he had never seen one really lash out like this. He was sure they could deal damage, but the few times he had seen them they'd sort of just been lumbering about, doing their business. Spaki hadn't gotten close enough to be detected and chased away.
He first took note of Margulis' find, but figured he wouldn't find much crowding over the little hole. So instead he distracted himself by the cry of 'blood'. He walked over, unfazed, but a little intrigued. "Perhaps it injured itself. Or killed something." He shrugged. Blood didn't bother him much, being a carnivore and all. Even a lion's blood. He lowered his head to sniff at it, but ultimately didn't get much.
He shrugged. Whatever had bled over here, it didn't mean much aside from the fact that... well, there was blood all over the floor. Moto'spaki decided to continue looking around.
-
Quite a bit later than everyone else, though perhaps a bit quicker than what might be expected for someone of her size, Kimaji arrived at the scene. Having followed the prints, and the monkey's red paint, she managed. And had cheated a bit along the way, but since no one had seen, there was no harm done.
She wandered right in, and certainly looked rather out of place here. She felt that way, too. At this point she was enjoying the endeavor less and less, but simply could not leave, even if she wanted to. Now there was this pull to get to the bottom of this. "I hope we get this over with soon." The cub mumbled, stalking about the broken trees. Poor trees, whatever had they done to anyone?
Tahir broke away from the black lioness when the group slowed. He kept his ears on both Rimma and Mura as he loped into the thicket. He was uninterested in finding the monkey now that they’d reached ‘the bad place.’ His nerves were hyper aware and his fur pinioned across his body. It smelled like anger and pain here. The fallen trees fare have Tahir the shakes.
“What creature is so powerful to do this?” He’d only ever seen elephants known down full grown trees. Certainly and elephant couldn’t get so deep into the jungle? And no elephant had claws to make scratch marks.
Something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. Some unusual writing. He slunk toward it, head low. The words were ineligible to him, no matter how much he cocked and turned his head to read them. Monkey script.
Tahir glanced back at the group and barked,” Where’s that monkey gone? I’ve found some writing.”
Bluu drew to a stop, uncertain where the old monkey had gone. She could have outrun him on the savanna easily, but the trees had slowed her down significantly. Still, she had been the first to arrive, pulling ahead of the black dog that raced by her side at the very end.
Following Veru's call, Bluu left out a soft hiss as she took in the wreckage around her. She hadn't put much credit behind the idea of a monster and even now she strove for a rational explanation. Maybe an elephant? Certainly they were big enough to do knock down trees and she had heard a rumor of forest elephants once. Only a rumor, but still a possibility...
She sniffed at a red patch at the ground and although her nose wasn't as keen as those of the dogs and she still had red paint on her face, she was able to identify it as blood. Great.
The writing that the coward dog had found interested Sandor, but he was not really the literary type and would not have been able to read it even if it had been sensical, and so he did not linger over trying to make anything out of it. He would leave that to people who actually stood a chance of learning from it.
Of more interest to him was the bloody find one of the others had made. It was definitely blood, and not more of the acerbic red s**t, so that was good. He guessed. Though maybe the red s**t might have been useful to them in tracking the killer. He wasn't ruling it out as a possibility.
His own searches did not turn up anything out of the ordinary, which was frustrating, but with everyone around him stomping everywhere before he'd even arrived it wasn't a surprise either. He was really much more of a solo tracker, given his druthers. In the future he would remember this hunt and use it to remind himself of why he did not work with other Jedi.
