Maelona had been no use in the fight, simply clutching her dagger. She fought back the screams and yelps that reached her throat. This was too close to battle for her. Too much blood, too many bodies. Tears stung at her eyes as she watched the others, trying to make herself as small as possible, staying out of the way. That was the best thing she could offer in the situation. Even if her voice worked, she wouldn’t have wanted to use it. There were too many friends mixed amongst the foes.
Soon enough though they had the threat under control, with minimal damage she noted. Her hands still shook as her gray orbs wandered the room, attempting to skip over the carnage, searching out those who had helped defend her and the others in the room. She felt terrible she hadn’t done much in the way of help, and could only assume how they felt about it.
With her back against the wall, Maelona slid down, and put her head in her hands. She had never had any desire to see such things. This was supposed to be a safe place, it was promised as a safe place. But with the Lord’s cruel treatment and now an attack, she wondered more than ever if she should have just stayed by her mothers side.
Her head lifted as she heard Soren speak. This was the woman she had spent the other night looking for food with. She had no idea who she was, or where she hailed from that night, but it wasn’t long before it was evident. The jester was the first to respond to the woman. His words confused Maelona, she she was left to assume, nay, hope they were in jest.
"I…" Maelona found it hard to talk, her heart still hammering in her throat. "I do not know." She said trying to steady her voice, though hadn’t quite succedded. "But…" She paused, knowing of course this woman could probably kill her some time soon and simply blame it on the bandits. "Thank you." She wanted to simply show some gratitude to the woman. Though after a moment, her eyes went around the room, to those who fought. "Thank you all." Soon after she lowered her head back to her hands. Her whole body fought as a shiver took her.
This was not her strong suit. It never would be. All of this chaos. She would never have another good night of sleep again.
