Lumine stood quietly before Seijin's grave, alongside Michiko. Her thoughts had turned inwardly. It would be a long time before she say anything. Finally, she moved closer, and dropped to her knees, sitting.

"Hi... Master Kazuko..." Her voice was weak and soft, and she was fighting a losing battle against the tears that welled up in her eyes. "I miss you--" Her voice caught, and she lost control of herself for a moment. Her body shook as the first few tears fell, but she managed to regain some composure.

"I miss you... a lot. But you don't need to... to worry about me. I'm not scared anymore. A-And... I'm not alone." She paused to wipe tears from her eyes, then removed her hat, holding it on her lap. "I met your daughter... she's really nice! I-If you can see, she's right here with me... We came to visit you."

"I'm sorry I didn't come for your funeral..." Lumine continued, lost in her conversation with Seijin's grave. "I knew I wasn't strong enough to come alone. I hope you're okay, where ever you are, and I hope Maemi and your husband were there to greet you! ..."

Lumine fell silent again. Slowly, she moved her hat and set it down next to the flowers Michiko had brought. It was the only thing she could offer, and she cursed herself for not thinking of this, either. "I really, really miss you, Master Kazuko... and I miss Maemi, too." The tears continued to fall, despite her efforts. Eventually she gave up, openly weeping softly.

"I... I l-love you...Master Ka..Kazuko...!"

Kazuko stood silently, listening to Lumine's conversation. The tears gathered at her eyes, making her eyes look glassy, even if they did not spill onto the ceremonial ground. She felt as if she wasn't worthy of calling herself Seijin's daugther, even if she was one by blood, more so in Lumine's prescence.

Finally Michiko joined Lumine's side, patting the celestial's back before joining in on the 'conversation.' "I-... h-hello ... Mother... Sorry I was gone for so... so long..." Michiko looked at Lumine's hat, "I ... met your other daughter... She is very ... Energetic...."

The wolf tugged at her scarf, even in death, she had troubles talking with her mother. "I hope you spent your time well. Lumine tells me you were still a kind woman; I'm glad you fared well. I bet you are happy now, what with being with father again, and your other student, Maemi right?" She looked for Lumine's approval. ".... I... "

At lose of words, she bowed her head, unable to think of what to say. She wanted to yell so many things but she couldn't find her voice. The tengu gave large gulp, taking a deep breath.

"I... love you mom... I really do... I'm sorry... Sorry for everything...-!" Michiko's head remained bowed, but her tears splashed onto her clenched fist tha rest on her lap. Her other hand held to Lumine's shoulder.

Lumine could feel the comforting touch of Michiko's hand on her back. She whimpered, trying to stifle her sobs, clutching at the material that made up her pants. She listened to Michiko speak finally. Hearing Michiko refer to her as Seijin's "other daughter" felt strange, but somehow heartwarming.

She cried out again, unable to contain herself any longer. She shrugged Michiko's hand off and wrapped her own arm around the wolf's neck, leaning into her and sobbing into her shoulder. It would be a short while before Lumine could regain enough composure to speak.

"S-So! You don't n-need to worry about us, okay? We're okay!" She spoke between sobs, and between burying her face into Michiko's shirt. "We're o-okaaay...."

Eventually, Lumine calmed down. She eased her grip on Michiko, pulling away and sitting. "We're okay, Master Kazuko... I'll keep an eye on everyone, okay? You don't need to worry about anything..."

"S...Say hi to Maemi for me, okay? A..and tell her I love her.... And I love you too..."

Michiko was a bit startled by Lumine, but the wolf soon wrapped her arms around her to try and sooth the celestial in some way, even as her own tears fell soundlessly.

When Lumine pulled away, she quickly begun to wipe at her tears discretely with her hand, and nodded in agreement with the girl by her,"You've worried all your life, Mother, it's time for you to rest." Michiko sat there for a small time,"You really deserve this rest, so take advantage of it, and know that I love you... say hello to Father, and that I love him too.... Please take care..."

After that she sat silently, soundlessly leaking tears into the cementary of the tengu. She wanted to leave so she could stop crying, but she did not say anything. Michiko wanted to be there with Lumine for as long as the celestial wanted. Quiet company beats no company at all.

So for the time being, she would try to calm herself and stop the tears that were escaping her usually rough exterior.

The short time that passed felt like hours. How long had Lumine sat there, with Michiko by her side? She couldn't recall. Instead, her attention was slowly drawn to another shrine not far away, one much more extravagant than the humble graves of Seijin and her husband. This shrine bore richly detailed and hand carved wood, stained a vibrant red and trimmed with gold, and bearing an equally golden insignia which decorated its largest surface. This was where Maemi's body rested, and it was obvious that her family spared no expense in its construction.

Lumine got to her feet silently, leaving her hat behind as an offering in Seijin's memory. She approached Maemi's shrine, a mix of feelings plaguing her heart. Knowing what she did, the shrine somehow felt... empty now. Despite the years that had passed, the shine still held a gleam that the others lacked - it wouldn't have surprised Lumine if Maemi's family paid for its upkeep over the passing seasons.
Still, mother nature always had a way of making herself known. Lumine reached out and brushed away some dirt that had been worn into the engraved metal plate under the family insignia, uncovering a single name: "Kenkaku Maemi".
Lumine didn't have anything left in her, and she felt she had no tears left to cry today. Her fingertips caressed the smooth, polished metal, tracing the engraved characters. She spoke the only words that came to mind...

"I love you; and I'll see you soon."

She turned away and distanced herself from the shrine, hoping to find her companion somewhere nearby. "Michiko... are you ready? ... We should go see the Academy now..."

Michiko watched as Lumine walked away from her, not following her yet. It was around Lumine's small frame that she saw the red shrine detailed with extravagant golden inlays. By the time the celestial cleaned out the name plate of its dust, Michiko was glancing over her shoulder. "Ah... So this is your friend...." She muttered ligthly.

When her companion turned to leave, Michiko did as well. Ochiba would not be happy if Lumine came back more depressed than when she left. "Right, have you been to the academy before? Or did you stay away from it?"

The tengu reeled Lumine away and lead the way to the Academy, leaving behind the graves of both their families.

---

The way down the village wasn't particularly unfitting of the tengu, and rather, the Academy was on the east side of the village; it was in the belief that everything startd from the east as said in some folklore. Michiko told Lumine a few facts about the Academy, purposely trying to keep the celestial's mind preoccupied with something other than the grave silence they left behind.

Awhile later, after the walk plagued with the same looks earned earlier, the Academy's building came to sight. From the outside it looked like an large, classical building, featuring the typical Japanese architecture in it's gates and entrance, but past it, a more western building worthy of any higher institution hid behind the various cherry blossoms that where daily trimmed.

The first gate, the one to the front 'lawn' of the academy and its garden was free to public entrance. The second had two guards, their armors and masked-helments far more rich than the guards at the front gate possessed. Knowing this (or hoping it hadn't changed) Michiko boldly ushered Lumine towards the first gate, leading the way to prevent any other roaming guard from questioning what the wayward celestial was doing here of all places. "Come on... We may not be able to enter the academy... legally. Still, I escaped from it's hallways many many times and unless they found out those loopholes, I'll be able to take us inside." She paused and added,"To our benefit, it won't be too long before the sun is past it's peak and the shadows will return..."

Lumine enjoyed her talks with Michiko as they walked through the Tengu Village. It kept her mind off the stares she knew she was receiving, and without the brim of her hat to hide behind, it was a welcome distraction.

Soon, Lumine found herself gazing upon the Academy. She had seen it from the outside, having visited a few times before, but never really cared enough to want to venture inside until today. The building had a different appearance than most of the other structures in the village, which lead Lumine to wonder if its design was inspired by human architecture, or, more likely than that, if the Kappa had a hand in its construction, and they themselves implemented some of the human's designs and aesthetic choices? It certainly wasn't any secret that both the Tengu and Kappa societies coexisted quite peacefully, and often times shared in their sciences and prosperity, so the latter of her theories seemed more sound.

Either way, the Wayward Celestial and Lone Wolf were fast approaching the building. Having never been so close before, Lumine had no idea what to expect, and relied upon Michiko's experience and guidance.

"What do you mean?" Lumine questioned Michiko at first, her eyes locked on the building even as she was lead past the first gate. "I mean, that bracelet of yours worked before... won't it work here, too? The Tengu here probably know a lot more about your father's side of the family than those rent-a-guards outside." She stopped to ponder for a moment, taking a good look at the guardsmen and their armors. The armor in question was more intricate in its design, and possessed somewhat of a royal flare. Lumine wondered how well these guards were trained, and how much the Academy wanted to keep unwanted visitors out...

"...Then again, a secret passageway would be a lot more fun!" There was a small gleam in her eye, mixed with a childish excitement. Lumine was slowly returning to normal~

Michiko pulled Lumine to the side to have her pretend to look at some of the garden's bonsai trees as the hermit explained the situation. "Well, the bracelet is enough proof to get us past less experienced guards, but the guards on gate duty at the door are far more trained than any guarding outside the village. They can keep whoever at a bay, as well as quickly respond and aid any problems at the Village. Training guards usually pay this as internship
time. "

"The bracelet is a trinket, and perhaps they'll be far more cynical and not let us in. I don't feel like using the secret entrances - Yet anyway- because we may find them of use later. The less we use them the more likely they woll be safe to use when we need to," She glanced sideways at the guards,"But... I may be able to get us inside. I do have more than the simple bracelet."

The Lone Wolf nodded at Lumine to follow her,"Come on, we are going to have to get in the easy way first before anything else. Then we can try more complicated plans."

Michiko walked towards the main gate that closed off the garden from the actual academy. Not liking to waste time, the wolf tengu walked up stopping before the guards,"Please let us inside. Don't waste our time." She rolled her sleeve to show the insignia of the bracelet,"I am a Rouki, so please get out of my way."

Lumine followed close behind, watching cautiously as Michiko confronted the guards.

They eyed the Wolf and Celestial for a moment, neither speaking at first, nor even moving. As with the last pair, their expressions were impossible to make out thanks to the helmets they wore. Finally, one of them spoke;

"Away with you, Civilian. That trinket you bear entitles you to nothing within these walls. The grounds here are available to the public, but only those directly associated with the Academy or its functions are allowed access within." The first guard said, simply and matter-of-factly. She seemed the type to hide behind laws and regulations before drawing her weapon.

"That's right," the second guard added, his voice gruff and annoyed. "And besides, how are we to know you didn't pick that up off a trader somewhere? For all we know, you may have even done a little tomb robbing to get that." Lumine felt outraged and took a step forward, only to hesitate as the guard continued speaking. "Look missy, we stand here all day and night - shifts pending - and have seen everyone who enters this building at one point or another, and I always remember a face. Yours...I do not. So unless you have something more substantial than a bit of jewelery, I suggest you turn that cute little tail around and return to enjoying the trees." He crossed his arms, punctuating his point.

Lumine stomped her foot, not at the sting of indignation, but at how they treated her friend. "Hey! That's not right! She's the daughter of Kazuko Seijin--"

"Kazuko?" The female guard tilted her head. "She never had a daughter. And we have proof, or rather, a lack thereof..."

"Days ago, officials from the Academy were sent to the late Kazuko's residence. They went through all her paperwork and personal belongings, and while Kazuko was indeed married to a Rouki at one point, there was never any mention of a daughter whatsoever."

Lumine mentally face-palmed. She had taken the only evidence of Michiko's existence along with her. A pit formed in her stomach as she turned to look to Michiko for a solution to their problem...
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 2:31 am

"Oh don't worry, I am always told I don't exist," Michiko moved to put her hands at her hips,"And while you two are rights in having a few of these theories, We do not lie to say I am Seijin's daugther. But seeing as how you seem to not be capable of changing your minds, we will work on being daughter of my father, shall we?"

"Seijin Kazuko was married to one of the last Rouki, Raino Rouki, you did find that in your search of an old woman's things right?" Michiko said taking a step ahead of Lumine. "You are also pretty stupid; as of a few years, this girl lived in this village and was friend of one of the Kenkaku family. I hope you wrote that on your school notes, kids."

"But that is aside the point," Michiko said,"I can prove I am a Rouki, and I can tell you I'll be going inside the Academy today. " She had losened her scarf as she spoke, and she unbuttoned the two buttons at the top of her shirt. With a small movement, she showed the guards something, and with Lumine behind her, she quickly rebuttoned her shirt when she thought the guards had registered what they've seen."So will you move now?"

The female guard nodded, affirming Michiko's retort. "Of course! As I said, Kazuko was indeed married to a Rouki, and while that family has played an important part in the Academy's history, their bloodline has since dwindled."

The male guard's body language shifted; he was noticeably more annoyed than before. "...Yes, come to think of it, I do remember hearing something about a Celestial gaining temporary citizenship, though it was my understanding that she was more of a pet to the Kenkaku woman." A smirk could practically be heard carrying on his voice. "It was also my understanding that this particular Kenkaku di--..."

Both guards paused as Michiko took a step forward, their collective stare (or so Lumine imagined, since she couldn't see their faces) focused intently on the wolf as she shifted her clothing. Lumine could feel a warmth rush to her cheeks as she watched Michiko fix her clothes. Did she just...?

The guards straightened their posture and bowed quickly, and when they returned upward, their gazes were fixed ahead in the most proper manner possible. "Our sincerest apologies, ma'am!" The first guard said, her arms straight at her sides. "...I've never seen anything like that...I-In person, at least." The second guard commented, earning a sideways glance from his partner.

"Either way, I think this proves her heritage! And it is our duty as standing members of this prestigious facility to grant a descendent of the Rouki family access!" The woman was obviously trying to cover her reputation.

"O-Of course. Please, go on through, Miss." The male guard stepped to one side, holding his arm as to usher in the Wolf and Celestial. Lumine was still confused, but took the initiative and strode inside, doing her best to ignore the comment the Tengu had made about her and Maemi earlier...
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:01 pm

Michiko let an exhalation, she herself was a bit blushed; she was always covered, any sort of exposure was emberrasing. As Lumine went inside ahead of her, the wolf tengu quickly followed,"Much better. Thank you for your cooperation."

Once inside, Michiko busied herself fixing her scarf into it's usual tidy order. "Bah... hadn't had to do that in a while..." Their steps resounded in the empty hallway, "Class should be in session as of now. Let's be quiet, and head towards the history hall."

Michiko nodded down the east alley, patting her skirt into order in a small fret before turning to walk ahead of Lumine. "The nerve those guards have; Insulting Elite families is the worse behavior you can receive from a pair of lower guards. They forget these other people are guards that have lived and died for the cause they too defend..." Their heels continued to resound in the hall. It'd be a littl ways before they reached their destination.

"Y...yeah..."

Lumine followed Michiko silently, and rather absentmindedly. She was still trying to figure out what just took place. Michiko always dressed so conservatively, and never before had she seen an ounce of her skin aside from her hands and face. But now, she moved her scarf...and had displaced her shirt! The Celestial could almost feel the steam threatening to pour from her head, her cheeks still reddening and warm.

"...Yeah..." She replied again, only half-paying attention to what Michiko was saying. As they continued their trek down the east hall, Lumine was slowly building up the courage to ask the question nagging at her mind:

"...H-Hey, Michiko? Wh... What did you...um... W-Whatdidyoushowtheguards?!" She finally blurted out, stopping in her tracks and staring at the back of Michiko's head, her fists clenched and face still obviously flustered. "C...Can I see? I mean, if you showed them..!"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2012 6:32 pm

Michiko figured she would be silent, since Lumine was being equally silent. When the lonewolf had enough courage to ask what had taken up Lumine's mind, the celestial spoke up on her own.

"Eeeeh---?" Michiko stopped ears perking as her face blushed again, more than before. " What business do you have with that? Curiousity killed the cat, Lumine-" Michiko muttered, crossing her arms,"And if you didn't get it, that's a no."

"Come on...." The wolf shook her head, trying to get the conversation moving along as well as their feet,"If you think i enjoyed that enough to show you for the fun of it, you are very wrong... Just... Forget about it all together."

"Whaaat?! But that's not fair!"

There was no way Lumine was going to let the topic drop so easily. She hurried on ahead of Michiko a few steps and turned, facing the wolf once more while walking backwards. "You showed those guards like it was nothin', but you won't even show meee?" She whined with a childish voice. "That's not cool! We're friends, right? There's no secrets between friends!"

Little did Lumine know, she was backing up straight into one of the display rooms situated on the east side of the Academy. The room was set up with a number of displays and memorials to important people who once played a roll in the Academy's grand and lengthy history. As Lumine walked, she bumped into a stand that was showcasing an old sword, nearly knocking it over. She quickly spun and grabbed the weapon before it fell, though the sound of the stand rocking back and forth echoed down the branching halls.

Lumine turned to Michiko with a sheepish grin, holding the weapon with both hands. "Eh..hehe..! ...Oops..."
