Iorlas had to think about that. "Well ... I would say they look like ... I suppose, rabbits ... but they have short ears, and instead of hopping, they walk. So their body is like the Eevee. Its head is shaped a bit differently, though - longer, instead of round. It's about the same size, though."
"I've never heard of those," Daeron mused.
Iorlas smiled. "They're only in the north, as far as I know. I mean the far north. They have small dens in the mountains, and they're really good at hiding. I think I've only seen them two or three times."

"They must be," Miyuki mused.
It probably meant most people had never seen one before, though she would like to see one.
"It would be neat to see one."

Iorlas giggled softly. "It would be like watching a rabbit. Really, it isn't all that exciting."
At that moment, Sorounume returned with a tray of food dishes, and her husband, at last, was right behind her.
"Good morning, you three!" Rigel beamed at them all. "Good to see you all again! Though I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised you came at lunch time, Daeron - you know dinner gives us more time to spend with you."
"We were already in the area, Nineko," Daeron replied with a grin. "We'll come for dinner another time."
"Good." Rigel chuckled, then turned to Miyuki. "And Miyuki. Look at you! Growing up so fast. Welcome back, dear." He leaned over and kissed her lightly on the top of her head. "Please don't mind us being in such a hurry, but we are a bit short of time at the moment."

Miyuki smiled in turn, "That's alright, I know the lunch hour is busy."
She made a mental note to ask her parents to come visit during dinner time then so they would get more time.
"I just grew, so I had to come into the city and get my feet re-measured for some boots and sandals that ada ordered."

"Well, congratulations on growing, then," Rigel chuckled. "No aches, I hope. Serenity was a bit of a grumpy grower."
"Sit, sit," Soronume chided him as she set out the food - sliced potatoes in a mushroom sauce, steamed fresh vegetables, and marinated chicken. "You're not going to get anything to eat if you don't. Daeron, Iorlas, Miyuki, you help yourselves to whatever you'd like, all right?"
"You say the same thing every time," Daeron laughed.

Miyuki smiled, "Okay!"
She went to get herself a bit of each, it all looked yummy and fresh.
"And no aches, I just had to change my clothes though, and it was a bit weird walking since I'm taller."

Daeron made sure that Iorlas and Miyuki each had some food before he also helped himself.
"I would imagine it would be like walking on stilts for the first while," he mused, glancing up at Miyuki.
"Stilts?" Iorlas repeated, confused.
Daeron smiled and nodded. "Remember that one fellow we saw at the festival who was walking on sticks with little platforms? Those are stilts."
"Ah," Iorlas nodded. "Right." She frowned gently. "That looked quite awkward."

"In a way I suppose so," Miyuki had never thought of it like that.
However, she hadn't seen stilt walkers walk, but she did know what they were.
"But it did feel like I was unbalanced... if that is what its like for them."

"I would imagine so," Daeron murmured. "Of course, I can only guess ..."
"Honestly, I'm a little surprised that you didn't ask him if you might try out his stilts," Iorlas teased him. "You spoke with him at length."
"I was curious," Daeron replied simply.

"How about how he balanced on them?" Miyuki asked.
She could see it, she had been told at one point, that the taller a person was, the easier it was for them to fall off balance. She wondered if this was the reason why some people (like her mom) were inclined to be short.

Daeron shrugged. "The same as balancing on a rock, or a beam. It's about how you hold your body, that's all."
"I would still imagine that it would take quite a bit of practice," Rigel spoke up seriously. "If it were easy, it would not be part of the festival, I think. Either that or there would be many more people doing it."

"By the way, which festival was this for?" Miyuki finally asked.
She had little concept of time after coming back, so for all she knew, it could have been the New Year, but she wasn't quite sure, and she didn't know if there were other festivals as traveling often caused her family to miss them.

"The festival of the Enderi," Soronume replied. "It is in the middle of the year, between Autumn and Fading. Always a big celebration. I have to admit, though, I can't remember where the tradition started."
"And yet it is a tradition in all of the elven lands, to my knowledge," Daeron added. "So it must have been a very long time ago that it started.."

Now she knew for certain she had never been to that festival before.
"I've never been to that one before," she told them both, "What is it like and what is it for?"

"The three days between Autumn and Fading don't belong to any month," Daeron explained, "and it's also at the time of year when there isn't much left to do with crops, as they would be ready for harvesting in a week or so. It's become a three-day celebration."
"Many businesses close during those days," Rigel added, "but for us it's one of our busiest times of the year. We can earn as much in those three days as we sometimes do in a single month."
