Admittedly Riza had started to feel a little worried as both Fearow went into a steep dive, headed for the ground in front of the gym below. But Plua definitely knew what she was doing, even with the added weight of a passenger and she flapped her wings and righted herself, dust and leaves and grass being stirred up from the powerful air gusts created by the pair of birds. Plua touched down safely, only landing just before Crenu and Fearow had. They'd won, even if only by a slight margin. "Wow, that was close," Riza marveled, nodding as she climbed off the Beak Pokemon's back. "And fun, too, we should do it again sometime. "You're pretty amazing, Plua," she said, smiling at her Fearow. Plua gave a curt nod in reply, glancing over at her golden rival. She gave a small caw and nodded again, her respect for her fellow flying-type climbing several notches. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all? Riza looked over at the gold bird, still smiling. "You're fast too, Fearow," she said, following suit and recalling Plua after Crenu recalled his own bird. She smiled at the poke ball and put it back on to her own belt, looking up at the gym as Shiro pushed on the door, but it wouldn't open. "What's wrong?" she asked, also trying the door. It was locked, and there were no lights on. "I guess it's closed?" she mused, not seeing any kind of sign. But then again, she supposed gym leaders couldn't sit around their gyms all the time, otherwise it could get boring. "What do we do now?"

Kasiya narrowed her eyes as the green barrier flashed up, safely deflecting Bubbles' Mud Bomb and saving Electabuzz from any damage. As she studied the yellow and black Electric-type, she was reminded of Kilik's Electabuzz, or rather, Electivire, was it? That was one tough Pokemon, and she idly wondered if her father knew of Electabuzz's possible evolution while at the same time squashing down the envy she felt. She loved Electric-types, and would love to raise an Elekid/Electabuzz/Electivire of her own, but she already had plenty of Pokemon that still needed training and care. Maybe someday, she thought to herself. "Okay Bubbles, let's put a stop to that Protect," she said, smiling. "Use Disable!"

"Muuuuuuuuuk," bellowed the Sludge Pokemon, sliding forward on the ground as a pale blue hue shimmered across its viscous body. He'd always liked to use this move as it stopped many of those annoying Fire-types back home from breathing painful fire all over him, at least for a little while.

Electabuzz's colouring noticeably paled a bit as the same blue hue flashed briefly in his eyes, and he suddenly could not remember the move he had just used. Blinking in confusion, the Electric Pokemon glanced back at Surge for direction, who laughed loudly and shrugged. "Eh, don't worry about it, Electabuzz! You got plenty of otha moves! Let's see how that pile 'o sludge likes yer Thundapunch!"

Electabuzz clenched a tight fist, electricity rippling across his powerful biceps. "Eleeeebuuuueleeee!" he shouted, now running full-tilt across the pavement toward his target. He reared back his fist, now cloaked in brilliant electrical energy and smashed it downward into what he assumed was the Muk's bulbous head. There, that ought to show it!

Jake was pretty content just to lie there, reminiscing about their little trip downstream until his breathing slowed, more interested by his own actions than the fact that Jade had slipped and fallen into the river in the first place. Without hesitation, he'd jumped into the water after her, and without knowing if he could even swim in the first place. What if he couldn't swim, and had only put them in more danger? Nah, he thought, shaking his head and dismissing the thought. He'd acted on pure adrenaline and instinct, and if he could go back in time, he knew he'd do the same thing. He offered a reassuring smile in the dark-haired girl's direction as she apologized again. It felt strangely self-empowering to be a hero, but he knew better than to gloat about it. "I'm just glad you're okay. You had me kind of worried back there," he said, sitting up.

Bibarel had made her way back over to the rest of the group, looking a little tired as well. She flashed Jade a toothy to show that it wasn't a problem before she turned to the Psyduck. He'd shown some serious courage when he'd jumped in after his trainer and she respected that. She gave a respectful nod and a thumbs-up, grateful to have Aquarius as an ally.

Jake, meanwhile, watched the Beaver Pokemon with amazement. She'd just shown a side of herself that he never knew existed, and he felt a bit of pride swell up in his chest. "Yeah, I think you're right," he said, nodding to Jade. "Besides, we're soaked through to the bone, and it's probably just going to get colder now that the sun's gone down." He stood up and stretched his partially aching limbs, and then realized something crucial. "Hey, where's Grotle?" he asked suddenly, worry finding its way into his voice."

"Groooo-tuuul," came a weary-sounding reply from a ways down the bank, and after a moment or so, a rather tired-looking Grotle ambled into view, Jake's belongings draped over his back. He plodded over to where Bibarel and Aquarius stood and plopped down, panting quite heavily.

"Grotle, thank goodness," Jake said, sighing with relief. He'd started to worry that he should have just recalled the Grass-type, but at least they had some dry things. He picked up his worn-out backpack and opened it, pulling out a rather large t-shirt and offering it to Jade. "You'd be swimming in it, if you'll excuse the lame pun, but at least it's dry. You can have the pants too, if you want."
=-=-=-=-=

"Thank you," the redheaded girl answered, more than grateful. "It shouldn't be too much of a problem, as the nurse at the Pokemon Center in Cerulean cleaned it up pretty good. I'm lucky it hasn't become infected." She glanced over as a Pidgey suddenly sped across the trail in front of them and her green eyes flashed to Zaira, as though worried the Shinx would chase after it and take off on her, again. Perhaps having learned from her last runaway experience, Zaira remained a few feet in front of Amy and Karrigan, content to wander along beside the fun little Wooper. When the Shinx showed no signs of straying, at least for now, Karrigan relaxed a little, allowing her mind to ponder what Pokemon could fill the sixth slot on her roster. While a Seel was a perfect option for her, she realized a Water-type would be a good choice. A Flying-type could also work, especially one powerful enough to use Fly, as it would make traveling much easier in the future.

Zaira let out a small whimper when Amy recalled Marshall, but retreated back to Karrigan's side and kept pace with her trainer as they entered the gatehouse. Karrigan looked down at the Shinx, and smiled to show the Electric-type that she trusted her. "Yes, I think we are ready," she said, nodding. "Let's get this over with." Saffron City was pretty much as they'd left it, towering with large buildings and teeming with people and traffic. The noise seemed to echo all around them, but Karrigan's resolve remained strong. They would make it through this busy city and be on the next route to Vermilion City. Karrigan felt an small, yet odd pang of excitement for her friend. The thought of cheering her on for a gym battle was enticing, and perhaps once Amy had challenged Surge (and won, of course!), she would challenge the Electric-type master. Perhaps he could offer some insight on how to better handle Zaira and all her energy.

"Guess we leave." Crenu said as he turned from the door to face her. This was...very unexciting. Anti-climactic was the best way to describe it, especially after the exciting race. But it wasn't over yet. Leaning against the closed gym door arms crossed, Crenu looked down at Riza eye to eye before closing his eyes and sighing. "We should go to the Pokecenter. There's no note or anything, but Nurse Joy might know something about the gym being closed. Even if it's nothing strange and Surge leaves at this time every day, being the local center the people there will know of his habits so they should know when he'll be back. Like the local tavern of days old, Pokecenters are probably the best collection of information in each town. If this is an extended absence then we'll have to come back...or I will anyway." Whispering in the back of his started to irritate him, but Crenu frowned and shook it away quickly, eyes shooting open as he pushed himself off the door and started for the center, remembering where it was from the last time they were here. "In that case we should have another destination in mind. Best case scenario we do find Surge soon and I get my rematch...I'm sure a tough battle will be had but I don't think it'll take any longer than your battle. Even less time if he decides to go with just one pokemon like last time. Once this is done, do you have anyplace in mind?" Crenu wasn't one to waste time, but neither was he one to zoom through life. He was enjoying adventuring around with Riza, but a big part of why he was so set on hoping from one goal to the next like they had been since last night was because it was keeping his mind off of the crazy he'd come to acknowledge was in him. He didn't want to go back to being taken by insanity and thinking as he had been during the contest, didn't want to go back to seeing ghosts of his past. He wanted to just go forward, go on, think only about now and next...with Riza.

Jasper and his two Pokemon had managed to get a little ways into the cavern before the two men had fully descended, as the sounds they made were echoing back to where they were. He could only hear bits and pieces of what they were saying, and he'd been right about them being up to no good. It seemed the two were only here to hunt Slowpoke, as Team Rocket had once made quite a bit of profit from cutting off and selling their tails. What use people could have had for them, Jasper had no idea, and even though he wasn't above breaking the law for a bit of extra pocket change, cutting off the tail of a docile and dull-natured Pokemon like Slowpoke was a bit too much for Jasper. But what could a small-time crook like him do? Call Officer Jenny and have her ride in with her trusty Growlithe and arrest the bad men? Not likely, seeing as Jasper lacked a phone and an easy escape route.

The two Rockets were fully in the cave now, and Jasper could hear them moving forward. Sighing quietly, the boy released his oddly-coloured Ditto. He would have recalled the other two, but unfortunately those red beams and clicking Pokeballs made too much noise for his liking. Ditto yawned loudly and Jasper tried to shush it, but luckily the two goons were too busy chatting to hear. "Ditto," Jasper whispered, crouching down so he was as near to eye-level with the terrific transformer as possible, "I need you to transform into something very specific."

"Joe, there's no Slowpoke here," the second man muttered, his voice heavy with the strain of the encumbrance on his back.

"They'll be near the water, Pete," Joe shot back, sweeping the beam of his flashlight around on the ground. "We just gotta catch a few of 'em. Those files said their tails grow back quick, so we should do all right if we only grab two or three to start."

"I dunno, it don't seem right," Pete continued to mutter, mostly to himself as he continued forward, his eyes scanning the darkness. He stopped when the beam of light passed over a section of wall, still staring even as his partner passed by him and kept going, fumbling around with the bag he carried before he withdrew a flashlight of his own. "Yo, Joe! C'mere a second," he shouted.

Joe gave an audible groan but made his way back over to where Pete stood. "What?" he demanded, and Pete gestured with his flashlight. Taking the cue, Joe examined the area. "What am I looking at?" he asked, a bit perplexed.

"This wall..." Pete answered, looking it up and down. "When we was here yesterday, I don't remember it being here. It looks outta place."

And out of place it was, for the wall was in fact, not a wall at all. It was taking all of Ditto's energy and willpower to remain in the colour, texture and shape of a wall. And it didn't help that those two idiots were shining their flashlights practically right in its eyes, either. Jasper held tight to Paras and Totodile, keeping them both quiet as he silently urged Ditto to keep up the guise, at least until he figured out a plan to stop these guys. He had no idea if they were trainers or not, and even if they were, he wasn't sure his Pokemon were strong enough to battle them.

Mya was having the time of her life playing tag with Roll and Gigas. She'd never known Charmander could be so fun; Gigas wasn't at all like the serious and stuffy Cynder. The little Rattata had a bit of a speed advantage, but the other two were much bigger than she was, though that did not scare the little mouse Pokemon. She playfully bumped her had against Gigas' thigh, and the proceeded to do the same to Roll, only the Rattata's head made a painful bonking sound and she staggered back, seeing pretty stars floating all around her. So that's what happened when one tried to headbutt a rock!

Hayley, meanwhile, forgot her unease and beamed proudly as the two trainers flipped through the contents of her sketchbook. "Thank you," she said, taking the book back once they were done and tucking it in her backpack. She looked up as Kressen asked a question, and had been about to shake her head no, as she'd been to Viridian on more than one occasion and knew her way around quite well. She looked to Alexis as she mentioned a restaurant, and on cue, Hayley's stomach groaned as well. It seemed she too hadn't eaten properly in a while, granted not as long as Alex. "Mmm, yeah, I'm kinda hungry, and I bet all my Pokemon could use some food," she said, nodding in agreement. And since he seemed like such a nice guy, (and he had good taste in Pokemon, too!) Hayley was all right with letting the big redhead guide them around.

The Muk let out a garbled sort of wail as Surge's Electabuzz assaulted him with an electrified punch. That attack really hurt, and it was hard for Kasiya to tell if Bubbles was more angry or insulted by the fact that he'd just been attacked. "It's okay, Bubbles, you're all right!" the girl called, eager cheering on her sludgy Pokemon. "Hit Electabuzz while he's close! Use Mud-Slap!" Bubbles stopped his wailing and blinked, as that sure sounded like a good idea! The Sludge Pokemon slid back a few inches, the ooze on his body churning and bubbling. Muk then proceeded to open his mouth and spit out a spray of dark muck at the Electric-type's face.

"Oi, Electabuzz, dodge that," Surge called. Electabuzz was quick on his feet, but he didn't react fast enough to avoid getting sprayed in the face by a vision-obscuring filth. His eyes burned and he let out a roar of pain, furiously rubbing at his face to try and clear away the mud. Surge sighed, rubbing his temples with his thumb and index finger. He'd nearly forgotten how easily it was for Electabuzz to fly off the handle. "Calm yerself, Electabuzz!" the gym leader shouted. "Now git in there and try a Fire Punch!" Electabuzz shook his head, squinting at the Sludge Pokemon before him. He let out another roar and once again charged forward, but this time as he readied his fist to strike, it was wreathed in flames. Unfortunately the Mud-Slap had done a good job of throwing off the Electric-type's accuracy and he was a bit off target, swinging upward this time and sundering nothing but air with a flaming uppercut.

"Now, Bubbles, while you have the chance, use Harden to protect yourself!" Kasiya cried, both of her hands clenched into fists. She knew Electabuzz probably could use Shock Wave, as it was her father's signature move, but he usually seemed to prefer to go the physical-attack route. Muk continued to shift back, leaving an oily trail on the ground in his wake, and he allowed the outermost layer of goop coating his body to solidify, creating a sort of Sludge-Armor. While generally not afraid of any living thing, Bubbles shrunk back at the sight of the fiery punch, even if it missed by a lot. Having been born and raised on Cinnabar Island, and being constantly surrounded by Fire-types had made the Poison-type a bit wary of fire.

Surge frowned a bit, unhappy Electabuzz's attack had missed, yet he was thankful Kasiya hadn't ordered the Muk to counter at the same time. He admired the way she read into a situation, and tried to play the odds in her favor, and she didn't seem to stick to purely defensive or offensive moves at one time. Regardless, the Electric-type Master had seen his share of battles over the years, and it wasn't the first time he'd battled a Muk, nor was it likely to be the last, and he knew what they were capable of. "Electabuzz, get back and use Light Screen," he called, opting to play defensive this round as well. Most of Muk's attacks were of the special variety, including Mud Bomb and Mud-Slap, and Light Screen would do wonders to reduce damage. Electabuzz darted back, holding out both of his hands in front of him and concentrating as a bright wall of light formed in front of him. It stayed visible for all but a second, but it would stay there for five turns, appearing when necessary.

Riza studied the doors of the gym, unsure of what it was Surge could be up to, and she looked over at Shiro as he spoke. He suggested the pokecenter, which was a rather wise choice for all the reasons he gave, and more. The dark haired girl smiled and nodded in full agreement. "Yeah, you're right, we should get to the pokecenter." She was still very much anticipating Shiro's rematch with Surge, now wondering what Pokemon both he and the gym leader would use. Last time it had been Raichu versus Swinub, and it had ended in a draw, even with the electric mouse unable to use its electric moves. Sometimes, she still found it hard to believe that she'd been able to beat Surge. "Of course, he could have just had a match this morning, and had to go get his Pokemon healed," she reasoned, falling into step behind Shiro and taking his hand. One of her poke balls started to shake and her Quilava popped out, eager for some fresh air and attention. Riza knelt down and patted Eris on the head, and the Quilava preened, happily trotting along side her trainer. 'Eris needs to have some battle experience now, otherwise she'll fall behind the others,' Riza thought, looking forward as they continued on.

Luckily Shiro knew where they were going, as Riza sure didn't, and before long they had made their way to the red roofed building, only to be greeted by an unexpected sight. There was a battle going on, and an exciting one, judging by the crowd that had gathered, and Riza's nose wrinkled as a nasty smell seemed to pollute the air. Still holding Crenu's hand, and making sure Eris was beside her, the pair approached the battle, keeping a safe distance. "Well, that explains a lot," the raven haired girl said, gesturing with a nod of her head. Lt. Surge himself was there, commanding a big, yellow and black striped Pokemon. His opponent was none other that a familiar blonde girl, and Riza subconsciously narrowed her eyes at Kasiya, still unsure of just why she disliked the girl. Maybe it was because she was just so perky and cheerful all the time, and Riza found it slightly annoying. "How gross," she commented, now eying the Muk. It was obviously the source of the sour stench.

"That's true, he probably gets many challenges a day." Shiro watched as Eris jumped out of her pokeball, his initial thought was that it was poor behavior for a pokemon to summon itself, but how Riza handled her pokemon was her business. Unlike him she hadn't tied with Surge, and she'd won the contest and had a badge from Misty now. She'd also beaten him in the race to Vermilion, clearly her methods were working for her. And going by his rather unimpressive record as of late, his methods weren't working at all. He'd just have to train harder, be tougher, that was sure to do it right? He looked at her and Eris though, they seemed pretty close. His mind quickly shifted though from Eris and Riza as they approached the Center where a crowd had gathered. There was a battle taking place most likely, and as they approached it became clear to him as well as Riza gestured. "Sure does. Guess I'll have to wait for that rematch." He said as he observed, surge was easy to spot and recognize instantly as they got to the front of the crowd, and Crenu recognized the blond girl almost immediately as Kasi, the girl he'd met at the beach party. "Hmm, an Electabuzz and a Muk...interesting." The powerful odor which had been in his nose from the moment they spotted the crowd was much stronger now, though it didn't bother Crenu all that much as he was more interested in it's source. "Gross? A pokemon made up entirely of sludge, said to be the result of over pollution in large cities and dump sights. Hard to imagine a lump of sewage taking on a life of it's own. Normally the presence of a species is a good thing and shows how much an area is thriving with life, yet the very existence of this life form means that the quality of life and nature around it is so poor. More curious than gross...but I see your point." The blond haired boy watched closely, the battle shifting from an offensive style to a defensive one in an instant as both pokemon were now bolstering themselves against their opponents main means of attack. Surge was of course a very experienced trainer being in charge of a gym, but Kasi was as well. This he knew from the battle they had shared before hand, where it was clear that her Pupitar was much stronger than his. He wondered if Ada had evolved into a Tyranitar yet, subconsciously wanting to beat her to that milestone. He'd been to busy analyzing the battle and the poison type to notice Riza's reaction to Kasi's presence.

Just as the flames were about to hit the Cherrim the other flames that were blocking her view of it died down and she got a look at the flower pokemon. Oh it was so pretty! She was a bit upset now that she went the whole battle without seeing it. Maybe she could ask Gardenia after this was over? Oh that would be cool. Robin was a little lost in her thought but she came back to see Ace giving her a small smile only to just then be hit by a powerful extrasensory attack. The playful pokemon staggered slightly and gave Robin a confused look before falling down, he was out of it now. "Oh my." Robin muttered giving him a confused look before looking over at the new Roserade on the battlefield. Wow Gardenia worked fast. "You did great Ace." Robin recalled her fallen pokemon and put his pokeball back in her bag.

Now to use? Robin didn't really know. Slowpoke might be a good choice. This was a grass gym though and he didn't really have the best track record or the motivation Black*Star had. No Slowpoke couldn't do it. Brook maybe? No, didn't grass moves not affect other grass pokemon? That didn't seem like it would be good. Hmmm so that left Raz and Luffy. Hmmm... "Luffy, want to take place in a gym battle?" She asked her first pokemon partner. The Ambipom gave her a huge grin and with a laugh he lept onto the battlefield.

"Haha! Let's go Luffy! Help me win that gym badge! Fake Out!" See Robin could call for fast attacks to like Gardenia! The Ambipom grinned and charged forward towards the pretty looking bouquet pokemon. Just as he was about to swing one of his tails at the bouquet pokemon he jumped over and swung the other one around.

Amy found the roar of the city to be discomforting, but she managed to keep a clear head as they merged into the heavy pedestrian traffic of Saffron. As time had passed, the streets had only gotten impossibly busier; now she expected that the fighting dojo they had only visited a little while ago was teeming with challengers and fighters alike, duking it out for their badges. She continuously glanced back over her shoulder, making sure that Karrigan was still there; if the redhead was not, Amy would move swiftly to the side and wait on the doorstep to some shop or another until she caught sight of her companion again.

To be honest, the appeal of large cities was quickly beginning to diminish, considering how often Amy was shoved or elbowed or jostled during any trip through them. She still liked them, but definitely not as much as she had before, and definitely not when she had elsewhere to be. A Flying-type wouldn't be such a bad idea, especially if she acquired the appropriate badges to use Fly. You're just upset because it seems so endless, she thought to herself as she waited for Karrigan, glad that she hadn't released Marshall into this mob. She laughed a little breathlessly when the redhead broke through the crowd to the side of the sidewalk, smiling wearily. "It's certainly gotten busier. But we can make it; I think we're not that far from the halfway mark."

The coldness and the water only seemed to weigh her down and render her practically immobile, but somehow Jade managed to sit up again and recall Aquarius after thanking him in a quiet, hoarse voice. She sighed heavily, more tired than she would've expected.

Jade smiled when Grotle appeared, though another pang of guilt shot through her at the thought that he might not have been able to find them. "Thanks," she said, taking the shirt, and took a pair of pants last minute. She didn't know how much clothing Jake had stolen from the Pokecenter, but she was grateful that he did now. After excusing herself, she released Solaris to accompany her over a bit as if to give her some sense of privacy. She slipped on the shirt without bothering to look at what it was, ignoring her little fox's curious cries. "Don't worry, it was my fault," she yawned as they headed back over to Jake. The raven-haired girl only paused to hang up her shirt and pants on a low-hanging branch nearby, praying that no Pokemon would try to steal them.

"I don't suppose you have a tent," she said lightly, already feeling content to lay back in the grass and stare at the stars. "Come here," Jade said, scooping Solaris up. The fox was savvy enough not to protest, but rather she relished in the attention that her trainer was giving her. She was set down in the grass beside Jade, the heat radiating from her fur helping in making the girl more comfortable. Jade folded her hands behind her head, looking up at the blonde with an almost rueful smile. "The benefits of a Fire-type. You can lay down next to her; she won't mind."

Jett studied his Pokedex as he wandered out of Azalea, checking on the moves of any Pokemon that came to mind. After a few minutes of that, he began to investigate the movepools of his friend's Pokemon, thoroughly impressed with the strength that both Cindy and Jasper's Totodile would soon hold. The dark-haired boy wandered past the Slowpoke Well, back out onto the route they had came from, where the sky looked considerably more overcast.

The hiker trainer that he had noticed when they emerged from the cave was gone now; maybe he had gotten hungry or something or maybe he simply left. Jett didn't very much blame him. It wasn't a very exciting spot, he noted as he stood there, looking around. The boy was debating on returning to the PokeCenter and maybe nap a little, for lack of anything better to do, when something caught his attention from the corner of his eye. Several Hoppip were leaping away, their usually placated expressions now distressed, and something was rustling through the grass very, very quickly. He began to approach it, against his better judgement, and tried to see anything beyond the mass of frightened Hoppip fleeing from their terror. But for a moment, everything was still, and he leaned forward, brows furrowing. And before he knew it, there was something coming from the grass; something coming right for him.

Gigas stumbled a bit as Mya headbutted his thigh. A good natured chuckle issued from Charamander as he righted himself before he fell over. Gigas continued to chase the mouse Pokemon until it bumped into Roll and staggered back.He patted the mouse's pokemon's back in sympathy as the trainers discussed their lunch time plans.

"There is a place called Lou's not to far from here that serves some awesome cheese fries and serves great Pokemon food as well." At the mention of Lou's Gigas nodded his agreement and started drooling at the thought. Gigas tugged on his trainers pants leg so they could go get some food.

"I know buddy we're heading out now." He motioned for the girls to follow him and the red haired trainer began to lead the way to Lou's. Along the way he pointed out all the stores ranging from flower shops, toy stores, and even the Pokemart.

Finally, after a ten minute walk they'd arrive at a small restaurant with a old sign with Lou's painted across it. It looked a bit run down on the outside, but the inside was clean and smelled great. He opened the door and held it aloft. "Ladies first.

Kasiya pretended not to be bothered by the fact that Electabuzz would now take much less damage now; instead keeping a confident smile on her face as she went over her options. Sadly, at the moment, the best two attacks available to Bubbles were Mud Bomb and Sludge. She considered the two options, recalling that Protect was still Disabled, so she might as well try to poison her opponent. "Okay Bubbles, time to fight dirty! Let's show them your Sludge attack!" the girl cheered, her gaze drifting across the battlefield to her father, and then to some of the crowd around them. She scanned the faces quickly, finding none that were familiar at least right away. When her gaze came to land on Crenu and Riza, she did a double-take, smiling brightly and waving at them, though her cheerful smile faltered when she saw the unpleasant look Riza seemed to be directing at her. Alright, what's her problem, then? Kasiya thought, now frowning.

Muk's Sludge attack shot through the air and splattered up against the wall of light that had previously been summoned by Electabuzz, blocking a good amount, but not all of the damage. Surge caught sight of his daughter glancing away from the battle, and for a quick moment he allowed his own gaze to stray. Nearby he spotted two of his recent challengers, but once did he quickly looked back to the battlefield. "Shock Wave," he barked, his voice echoing loudly. Electabuzz didn't waste a second, still wiping the muck from his eyes with one hand. A blanket of electricity cloaked his body and he raised his other, directing the bolt towards his toxic opponent, not that the Shock Wave needed direction.

Muk had also turned to see what his trainer was looking at, but of course he didn't recognize any of the humans. What he did recognize, however, was a sharp current of lightning suddenly passing through his body and he gave a garbled yell. Kasiya's attention snapped back to the battle and she gasped. "Oh, I'm sorry, Bubbles!" she cried. "Try fighting back with a Pound attack!" The Muk shook himself a bit, and faced his opponent, eyes nearly hidden by the sludge covering his body. He liked using Pound, but he had a better idea. He raised a sloppy arm high over his head, a dark, almost shadow-like aura covering it. He gave a grunt, and punched the air. For a moment, nothing happened, but then, quite suddenly, a shadowy outline of Muk's fist shot out of Electabuzz's shadow and slammed into the back of the Electric-type's head. Kasiya knew right away that was not a Pound attack, so she quickly withdrew her PokeDex to check it out. "Wow, Bubbles, that's so cool! I didn't know you could use Shadow Punch!" The Muk faced her and gave a big, gooey grin as a reply.

Jake glanced over his shoulder at Jade as she went off to change into the dry clothes, leaving him alone for a few moments. Both his Pokemon stared at him curiously as he removed the other shirt he'd taken from the lost and found, a plain blue, long-sleeved one. He removed his wet shirt and threw it haphazardly over the branch of a tree after wringing it out, and he slipped on the long-sleeved shirt, finding it to be quite a good fit, though it did have a bit of an old, musty smell to it. His upper half now felt better, but his white jeans were thoroughly soaked, and though he couldn't remember much, he did know that wet jeans were about as uncomfortable as it got. Deciding that it was pointless to worry about modesty, he stripped them off and hung them over the branch as well, hoping it wouldn't break as it was now sagging from the weight of the two garments. So, standing there in a blue shirt and damp grey boxer shorts, he waited for Jade to make her return.

"No, unfortunately," the blonde replied, shaking his head once the girl had came back. "Truthfully, I don't have much of anything, actually." To prove his point, he took the old backpack and dumped its contents on the ground, revealing a bunch of empty Pokeballs, a Great Ball and the medicines he'd purchased earlier. There was also his shiny new PokeDex and the old, scuffed up PokeNav he'd received from Professor Rowan. Other than his badge case, which contained the one and only badge he'd won thus far, there was a distinct lack of personal items. "It's kind of sad, really," he said, laughing at himself as he threw everything back into the bag. "A blanket or a sleeping bag would have been really nice to have, too." He shivered as a chill went through him, and he plopped down on the grass beside the Vulpix, already able to feel the heat coming off the Fire-type. "Thanks," he said, nodding to both the girl and the fox. "I should get me a Fire Pokemon at some time." He pulled his aviator jacket over his legs and lied back, sleepily staring up at the sky. Bibarel and Grotle were close by, as Jake had no intentions of recalling them lest something try to approach them in the night. "We should probably get some sleep, things will be better in the morning," he said, trying to reassure not only Jade, but himself as well. He yawned loudly, his eyelids feeling as though they were being weighed down by lead. "Good.. night... Jade. Sleep well," he murmured, asleep within a matter of moments of bidding his new traveling companion goodnight.

This time around, it was definitely trickier for Karrigan to keep close to Amy, as all it took was for her to blink and her friend would vanish temporarily. Amy was very good at waiting for her though, and Karrigan was quite grateful, and very glad that she'd befriended the bespectacled girl, as she wasn't the type to make friends easily. Her thoughts drifted back to the other friends she'd made, back in Sinnoh, and she wondered how Tyra and Isabelle were doing. I hope Tyra's not out starting fights, she thought with a faint smile. Once more she caught up to Amy, glancing down to find that Zaira had stayed at her side. "Yes, we should keep going. It's way too stuffy here." She remembered Vermilion being much less busy, but that was about it.

As the two girls started forward once again, Zaira did as well, doing her best to keep up. It was much more challenging for the kitten to keep up with her trainer, but it was also helping her to feel more patient and alert, as well. Very suddenly, something grabbed a hold of her long tail and the Shinx stopped in her tracks, whirling around in surprise. A small boy, perhaps of about seven, had grabbed her tail and was yanking it, laughing. Unsure of what to do, the Electric-type lunged forward, snapping her jaws at him. Of course, she would never bite the boy, but he didn't know that and he let out a cry and let go and ran off. Satisfied, Zaira turned back to unite with Karrigan, but to her terror, her redheaded trainer and the other girl were gone! Uttering a frightened squeak, the blue and black kitten darted forward, dodging around the feet of the larger humans and looking up frantically.

Fortunately enough, Karrigan and Amy hadn't gotten too far ahead, as they'd once again become separated. This time Karrigan waited for Amy to catch up before proceeding. Zaira, meanwhile, had spotted a girl with a long, red ponytail and started to give chase, and in her haste didn't realize she was following the wrong human! Karrigan glanced down to check on her Pokemon in time to see a blur of blue and black zip by, practically vanishing into the crowd. "Zaira, no! Come back!" Karrigan cried, suddenly very angry at herself for not having the foresight to call the Shinx back into her Pokeball, and she tried her best to follow her Pokemon, though it wasn't the easiest of jobs.

Amy wasn't sure if it was actually this hot, or if it was the city and the throng of people they were migrating through; she couldn't be sure until they had gotten onto the route leading to Vermilion. By now, the seaside city was sounding better and better, if only for the promise of a breeze, because Karrigan was right, it was incredibly stuffy in Saffron. She began to worry about getting some sort of bruise after someone shoved past her for about the fourth time today; she guessed that maybe it was a lunch rush here, and people were hungry enough to risk a little rudeness.

After slipping ahead to catch up with Karrigan, Amy paused for a moment, catching her breath as her redheaded companion looked back for their littlest member of the party at the time. She felt something brush past her leg and heard Karrigan crying out, looking up just in time to see Zaira run off. "Zaira!" Amy called, trailing after her friend and the Shinx, half-debating bringing out a Pokemon of her own to help bring the kitten back to them. But she knew it wouldn't be a practical idea; Flora or Marshall or Lee might end up getting lost themselves.

"Excuse me," she muttered hastily as she brushed past someone in order to get farther ahead, still hurrying after Karrigan. "Zaira!" Worry flooded through her; Amy didn't want Zaira to get lost in such a big city, especially since she seemed so hyperactive. She hoped that Karrigan had caught up to her. But all she could do now was keep going and try to find her friend again, having gotten a few people behind Karrigan and Zaira.

"You, too," Jade said plainly, petting through Solaris' soft, warm fur. She couldn't get to sleep right away, even though she had not slept well on the boat ride to Sinnoh and she should by all means be exhausted. To cope, the raven-haired girl stared at the stars some more, unwilling to talk or move or make any noise. She kept thinking about the kimono girls.

She should by all means be happy. She had done it, after all; she had certainly put a lot of distance between herself and Ecruteak. She was entire regions away. And she had even made a friend right away! But she couldn't ignore the feeling that ate away at her, and she wasn't sure if it was guilt or fear. She hadn't done anything wrong; she left the Eevee and took her own money, won from trainers she had battled, and caught her own Pokemon. She even left her kimono. But she couldn't stop thinking about all of the girls, Lily and Yue and Crystal, and all of her teachers. Would they have forgiven her if she told them why she left? Would they have even understood? It doesn't matter, she told herself, you won't ever have to explain yourself. You're too far away. They won't track you down, and you can live life as you want. You can be whoever you want now. Being whoever she wanted sounded nice, Jade decided. After a few moments, her eyes began to close and she curled closer to her Vulpix, falling asleep soon after.

Riza's gaze didn't stray from the blonde girl even as Crenu went into reasons why he found Muk to be interesting. The raven haired girl chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Sure, the very reasons for this thing being alive is that humans are disgusting and ruining our planet, but that doesn't mean it's not gross," she retorted, though kept a playful edge to her tone. When she saw Kasiya frown, she smirked, as the momentary distraction had allowed for Surge's Pokemon to hit the disgusting Sludge Pokemon with a strong electric attack. Though she had no interest in the Muk, she was curious about the other Pokemon and withdrew her pokedex, scanning the creature even as the Muk attacked Surge's Pokemon with a shadowy punch. 'Electabuzzz, the Electric Pokemon,' she read. 'It loves to feed on strong electricity, and are often found near power plants, occasionally causing blackouts. They windmill their arms to give their punches slight boosts, though foes have been known to escape in the meantime.'

She put the device away and glanced back up at the match, trying to put aside her feelings of dislike for Kasiya as she watched the two Pokemon. She'd never seen the blonde battle before, and though Riza wasn't one to charge blindly into battles, she had a sudden and strong urge to challenge Lt. Surge's daughter, if anything just to see if she was as good as her dad and if being a gym leader's kid made a difference. Eris remained by her trainer's side, watching the two Pokemon with interest. The pores on her head and back flared up as they exchanged attacks, wanting nothing more than to jump into the fray. But, this was not her battle, so for now the Quilava would have to be patient, something she wasn't very good at.

Roserade danced back over to Gardenia's side, one rose placed delicately on her hip as she waited for Robin to send out her third and final Pokemon. Gardenia smiled hugely as she saw the energetic Ambipom take the field, and she felt a surge of excitement shoot through her. She could tell that Robin and Luffy had quite a bond between them and it would be an interesting match indeed. "Roserade, quick, try to use your Poison Sting," she called. She'd battled the Long Tail Pokemon and its pre-evolution, Aipom, before, but she had a feeling that Luffy was special. Luffy was quite fast, but Roserade was no slouch either, though of course, Fake Out took priority over Roserade's move, even as the Bouquet Pokemon ducked out of the way of the first tail, the agile monkey did an impressive jump, swinging around his other tail and smacking Roserade from behind. The hit was strong and Roserade stumbled forward, glancing over her shoulder at Luffy. He could smack her around with his tails all he wanted, as she knew there was always the risk of her many pointed thorns giving the Ambipom a case of poisoning.

“You’re doing great, both of you! That’s enough!” Scarlet yelled with pride, sporting a wider grin than any man having a Gastly lob venomous orbs of sludge at a Magikarp had any business wearing. Halibel responded with her usual monotonous “karp,” landing on the ground with a slap. She slapped her tail on the ground, flopping over toward the laughing redhead and the flaming ferret grinning beside him.

“Nice saves there, Halibel,” Scarlet smiled to himself, recalling the fish pokemon in a flash of red light. Then he looked over at Terumi, who hovered in place, glaring angrily at the Magikarp’s previous position on the ground.

“Don’t get mad you didn’t hit. It’s a brand new move, and she’s a lot quicker than I’d have thought too.” Scarlet reached for his belt, retrieving the red and white sphere. The Gas pokemon sighed as it was called back into its pokeball, only hoping that this Bugsy’s pokemon weren’t as irritatingly averse to eating Sludge Bombs in the face. Scarlet scratched the back of his head and looked down at his partner.

“This is gonna be an interesting Gym Battle, eh?”

Cindy barked excitedly at the thought of finally getting one of those badges. The flames on her body glowed bright as she darted in circles around her grinning trainer.

“Yeah, we’re ready. As ready as we’re gonna be, anyway,” Scarlet said with a grin as he headed back for the pokemon center. “I think I should probably call home. Dad might be back, and Mom’s probably having an aneurysm or something, it’s been so long!”

Cindy nodded in agreement, charging through the doors as the redhead opened them. The both of them headed to the phone in the center. Hesitantly, mainly because of his sheer terror at being stuck on the line with his mom for hours, Scarlet reached for the receiver.

Brrrring!

The boy jumped at the sudden sound, which, to his dismay, was followed by snickering from the Quilava beside him. “Oh, shut up, you,” he scowled, before picking up the receiver. “… Azalea Town Pokemon Center?”

“Sup, Red? How’s the quest for 40 badges goin’? Or do you still only have the one?” mocked the sly, girlish voice on the other end.

“… Cyan,” the redhead growled. He could see it now. That smirking face that his rival wore, framed in curls of ice-blue hair. He’d been dealing with it ever since he could remember. “… Wait, Cyan? … How did you even find me? I’m in a pokemon cent-

“T-That’s not important,” she stammered. “What’s important is that I’m nearby, and I’m challenging you.”

The silence stood in the air for a second, but it felt like an eternity. Scarlet could see the smile playing across her face in his head.

“… When and where?”

At that moment, the Center doors slid open, there she stood clenching her Pokegear, curly blue hair tumbling down her back. And just like Scarlet remembered, Cyan’s lips curved to a cheerful grin, her emerald eyes peering into Scarlet’s. “Here and now.”

Roll had never had so much fun before. Playing tag with Blues was almost impossible, since every time she managed to get close, the Abra always popped up somewhere else. She giggled breathlessly as she tried catching Gigas, squealed excitedly when Mya tagged the excitable charmander, and squeaked when her turn came up and the rattata bumped her. Roll darted over to check on Mya, poking the starry-eyed rattata in the side.

In the meantime, it seemed lunch was a plan. Alex had never heard of Lou’s before, so it would be like an adventure! … One of the normal ones, though, thankfully. No poison daggers attached to bees, just cheese fries. Normal, delicious cheese fries. The thought of that alone made her mouth water. “That sounds really good,” the blond said with a grin. Alexis usually only got to eat out with her parents. Though it’d be a little weird hanging out with people so much older than her, they both seemed nice enough.

When Kressen lead the way outside, Alex called Roll over to her side and followed, grabbing the little larvitar’s hand as she headed out. As the group headed to Lou’s, Alex looked around at all the shops that the redhead pointed out, making mental notes to head to the Pokemart after lunch, just in case antidotes were needed. The tour didn’t last terribly long, though. After a few minutes, the restaurant came into view. Alex stared at the rickety building with wide eyes. It wasn’t anything like the places her family always went to in Saffron. She frowned a bit, but the smell of the food was wafting in the air, and it smelled delicious. Roll tugged on her hand, leading her into the door that Kressen held open.

“Thanks,” she said as she passed him to the inside, which was quite a bit more presentable. And the scent of the food was enough to make Roll drool. The Larvitar excitedly dragged her trainer over to a booth, waving at the other humans to hurry over.

"Fair enough." Crenu responded with a slight smile looking at Riza before turning back at the battle, giving her hand a light squeeze. He liked the way it felt in his hand, even though he was focused on the battle he didn't want to let her go right now. It was safe to say Crenu wouldn't be going up against Electabuzz, even if he healed it up right after the battle with Kasi there was a good chance Surge had a rotation of his own and would give yellow and black pokemon a break. On the other hand, it was Surge after all and he might be inclined to toughen his pokemon through consecutive battles, and a leader was sure to have more than one of a species, so it wasn't impossible that he'd face an Electabuzz if not this very same one. Either way being prepared was never a bad thing, nor was picking up valuable information so he shifted his focus from Kasi and Muk to Surge and Electabuzz. It was a pretty well balanced pokemon with good attack and special attack, as made evident by the ever accurate Shockwave that struck the slime puddle with a thunderous crack causing him to gurgle in discomfort. But much to his surprise, and to Kasi's it seemed, Muk struck back with his own perfect accuracy type move, and a ghost one at that. The Shadow punch hit directly from behind and that special blocking light screen would do nothing to stop it like it did the Sludge attack. He wondered if Electabuzz could learn Reflect as well and whether or not this one had learned it if it could. Electric types weren't really Crenu's style, but a versatile pokemon like Electabuzz wouldn't be so bad to raise. And neither would a Muk, especially one that knew Shadow Punch, something he hadn't heard of until now. It was a good move on a Muk too, it was a little unfortunate that such a physical pokemon had so few physical moves at its disposal, at least from what he'd read. Shadow Punch wasn't overly devastating, but always hitting and wider type coverage made it a precious tool for Muk, as well as being a physical ghost move which was one of if not the only one of its kind. Now that he thought about it, Crenu knew little about Ghost pokemon, and having grown up in Ecruteak that was a tad embarassing. Perhaps he would dedicate a day or two to studying up on Ghosts the next time he was in a library. "hmm..."
