Kennard had a smile on his face as the other father sympathized with him, but at the small childs question, Kennard stiffened, and his gaze went straight to Riordan and Loa. Loa gave a demure bow, no doubt meant to state that she only followed his orders, and that no such emotions existed. Kennard wondered if that was truthful. Kennard rested a hand on the girls head while she cried, brushing some hair out of her face. "Child, you're right, Loa and Riordan share a close bond, but it is more like that of siblings," The words hurt to say, it pained him to acknowledge his sons closeness with an elf-beastial being, but Kennard knew that, at the least, that's how the two felt about each other. Kennard glanced up at Melody and Tony, with a soft, though plainly sad, smile. "Don't worry about it. Children have their moments, and it speaks well of you that your daughter stands by her convictions, even at such a young age." Kennard paused a moment, staring down at the small girl. "But, on the subject of Princes and Princesses," He said, hoping he would be able to still the flow of tears. "Would you like to meet my younger son now? He's frail, and can't do many active things, but he's awake, and no doubt would like to meet you." Kennard's soft spot was children, and always had been. He wished he had had more, but there had been issues conceiving with his beloved queen after Riordan, and when finally another child had been born, he had had some sort of illness. Kennard had shyed away from having another child after that.
((Obviously, I'm going to throw together a profile for the prince and at least temporaily play him. So I won't be able to reply with Kennard for a little bit, until that's done. Still, if Riordan posts or someone posts something to Loa, she can respond.))

((Tis fine)) Thre was a wave of shock and relief. No punishment...no anger...the king was not what any of them expected. The little girl sniffled, and, after hearing the idea, slowly stopped crying, "I can...really meet the prince?" she asked, excitement and happiness replacing her earlier feelings, and the problem was forgotten by the easily distracted girl. She began to smile after a few minutes, "I would love to meet my future husband!"

When Alicea spoke of him and Loa getting married he froze. She was going to get them in trouble. When his father looked to him he shrugged as if to say, "I don't know where she got that from." and thankfully her parents stepped up to his defense. And his little brother meeting the girl seemed like a good idea. "That would be a great idea. I think Owen and Alicea could be great friends."

Loa glanced over at her prince as he spoke, noting the shrug he gave. It hurt, somewhere deep, but she was relieved nonetheless that he wasn't acting alarmed or anything. She wouldn't want to give the king anything else to be angry at her about. When Owen was mentioned, Loa thought of the sheltered prince with the odd breathing disorder. None of the over-paid high-class doctors that King Kennard had hired had ever seen it before, but no one could convince him to look at smaller-time doctors. Her prince sure had tried. "O- Prince Erasmus would benefit greatly from some company, I think." She had to remind herself that she wasn't close enough to the younger prince to use the petname his family had for him.
Just as they all were deciding on this, a noble several feet- but not quite out of earshot, shook his head sadly at his companion. "Oh, it's such a shame that Prince Riordan holds so much on his shoulders. Both his father and younger brother on their deathbeds. With his brother so sick and frail, and his father so far past his prime..." The noble seemed to be empathizing with the Prince, but would have been far better off not speaking this aloud.
Though Loa felt some rage at his comments, she had firm control over herself. Her gaze drifted to the Prince though, sure he had heard the comments...

Riordan heard the noble. Instantly his eyes turned dark, and he turned in the noble, pushing the man against a wall and laying his arm across the mans throat. "Never speak like that again!" He growled, "My father is in fine health, and my brother will not, I repeat WILL NOT die!" Riordan snapped. "And if I ever heard you speak like that again..." He let the words hang in the air and he pressed his arm harder against the mans throat, before dropping him to the ground. "Get out of my sight." he said flatly. He didn't care that a noble family witnessed it, or that his father witnessed his rage. Or even that Loa had seen it. He did not accept anyone speaking like his brother would die.

Kennard stiffened himself when he heard the nobles words, but contained his rage because rage from him could cause incident. Turning, though, he opened his mouth to say something- only to watch his older son flip out. He made no move to help the nobleman- implicitly offering his approval of the action. He personally was aggravated with all the comments about his own "failing" health, but comments against his dear Owen, they either pissed him off or send him into his cups. He had never felt more powerless than in regards to his ill son. As the noble scrambled away, Kennard merely nodded to Riordan- a silent signal of approval. Turning back to the family, Kennard realized he had subconciously shifted to hife the sight from the two young children. Smiling at them, he inclined his head. "I'm sorry about that. Come, Owen's room is this way." With a flourish, Kennard turned and strode indoors.
Loa, when the king had turned away, took a step forward and set a comforting hand on her princes shoulder. To others it may seem simple, but from Loa it was very meaningful.

Owen sat in his windowseat, a blanket over his lap, staring out the window at the garden. He couldn't see much through the trees and plant life, but he caught a glimpse of Rio's bright white-and-light-blue garb, and smiled. I wonder if Rio will visit me today. I know he will if I ask Milly to fetch him, but I like it better when he visits all on his own. In Owen's lap sat a heavy volume on flowers, but he left it closed for the moment, instead peering down at the garden. He had seen new people, a whole bunch of them, and wondered who they were. Planning on asking Rio, Owen rested his face against the windowpane, even though the maids hated when he did that. He could barely make out his father, and saw bits of Loa's distinctive wings. I wonder if Loa will check on me tonight too... Owen glanced at the doorway, debating ringing for Milly, his maid/nurse, so that she could get Rio. Owen- Erasmus, actually, but he liked his middle name better- was the second and greatly-unexpected prince of Exortensis, and was very ill with some unknown breathing disorder. He never left his room, and didn't have many friends, but he adored his older brother and his father. It made his day when they visited him.

Tony nodded, feeling ready to do the same themselves, "More than they deserved." he mumbled, sighing. The idea of speaking ill of the kings health was seen as a taboo in their world. People would make an effort to say how much healthier the king looked. In lower-class, the idea of another rule was seen as bad. There was a far greater possibility of a worse ruler than a better ruler. To speak of a child dying...that was strictly taboo. In middle and lower class the rule was the lower the child's health, the more hope people had to keep to help pull them through it. Seeing both broken at the same time abhored all the oldest members of the Marino family. Rose closed her eyes, breathing slowly to calm herself. Benjamin, a sword now at his belt, gripped the sword in thought of using it. Melody stepped up to the king, "If I may, your majesty. It was not right for them to say something, knowingly or unknowingly that you and your family could hear. I do not blame the prince for his actions. I would like to take a moment to say that I never once felt that you looked even tired much less what they said before. I also believe, as does my family, that the young prince will be able to come through his illness." Alicea wondered why the prince was sick...did he have a fever? Alicea decided to play nurse to make him feel better if she needed to. "Don't you worry, Mr. Majesty. I'll make sure the prince will be feeling all better in no time." Alicea decided out loud. "Oh boy...we have a problem." Benjamin stated, staying near Rose, "Alicea decided something...We all know what that means. She will do everything to make sure she's right."

Kennard blinked in shock at Melody, and then gave a small laugh. "I do believe I will like having you all among my nobles." Kennard smiled at them. "I am the first in my line to make it to the age I have reached, and I get weary often," Kennard restrained himself from glancing in Riordans direction, the cause of a handful of his sleepless nights. "Pair this with the rumors many of my nobles are spreading around to encourage war, and I'm afraid many who do not see me often believe readily that I am near death." Kennards eyes saddened at her next words though. "I thank you. We try to keep hope as well, but he's... it's less of an illness, and more of a condition. Some of our doctors believe that if he can make it through childhood without..." The king cleared his throat, unable to say it. "That he will live a long and happy life."
"And so he shall." Loa whispered to herself, not realizing that the King had paused and her words were clearly heard. Coughing and going a bit bright, Loa glanced away. "I-I-" Rarely speachless, Loa cleared her throat again. "It is not my place, but I have a spot of growing affection for the young prince Erasmus, and am- I-" Loa glanced at the king, sure her next words would have her declared never allowed to see the boy again. "I've been taking notes on what seems to trigger episodes, and methods of avoiding these things. A-and have been researching known diseases for something similar and methods of treatment." This is when he orderes my execution for my impertience. He refuses to allow human doctors to examine his son if they are off too low a class, and I am far lower than any of them. "I-I believed it to be part of my job as bodyguard."
Kennard merely stared at Loa in shock a moment, before shaking his head and moving on. "Owen can't see many people at a time, so for now I shall go in with little Alicea and Lady Melody." First, Kennard glanced at Alicea. "I thank you, and I think company will go a long way towards making him feel better." Kennard knocked on the door, opening it to see his younger son sitting on his windowseat, smiling brightly. "I have someone to see you, son."
Owen grinned brightly when he saw his dad, and had be been a normal child, would have leapt from his seat and ran to his father. He used to do so, in fact, but each time he did, it would trigger an attack, and his lungs would seize up. "Really? Hi daddy, who is it?" He got to his feet, looking frail and tired, but more or less healthy, and slowly walked towards the door, stopping by his bed.

Riordan looked to Loa and smiled. When she spoke of her observations of Owen, he nodded, "Perhaps those observations can help the doctors." He said immediately jumping to defend her. "And as your duty is to protect the family, from any threat, it was well within your duties to do so. And I thank you for that." he looked to Loa, "Shall we also visit him, Loa. Or is there something else I should be doing. As long as it isn't talking to Nobles or advisors."

Loa blinked when her Prince smiled at her, and glanced at the ground when he started defending her. She, for a moment, wondered if he meant his words or was saying them only to placate his father. Loa realized her prince would never do that, even for the sake of keeping her around. It wasn't his way to use falsehoods to get someones approval. Though, if questioned, her duty was only to protect Riordan from any threat. Owen and the king and queen were not under her charge. At his question, Loa shook her head. "There is nothing else, but O- Prince Erasmus shouldn't be overtaxed by too many visitors at once." She watched the rest of them leave, and when it was just her and her prince, whispered, "I'm sorry for my impertience..."

Rose smiled, knowing her sister's reaction before she had it. She caught a glimpse of the prince, and felt this should be for Alecia only. She would visit the young boy again some time. She wanted to talk more to the prince and his "Good friend...Appologize if she could. She went back twords them. Kyle Alexander saw his sister, following her. Tony stayed at the door, just in case. Melody came in with Alecia, "It's nice to meet you. My name is Melody. This is-" "Princess Alecia! Or, I will be a princess. HI!" She ran up to the boy, giving him a hug, and a kiss on the cheek, "It's nice to meet you. We are gonna get married!" she said, deciding this even before she came in.

Owen blinked up at the pretty lady and the bubbly little girl with her. "Is it Melody, or Lady Melody?" He murmured, not wishing to be disrespectful, especially not in front of his father. Then then bubbly little girl had run up to him, and Owen took a step back merely out of reaction. Then he was being hugged, and his cheek kissed. His pale skin going bright red, Owen used the back of his hand to wipe his cheek, as if the kiss had stained it. "It's nice to-" At her second sentence, his voice skidded to a stop and he looked at his father. His eyes were wide and questioning. Arranged marriages weren't unheard of. "F-father?"
At the shock on his face and the stutter, Kennard worried that Owen was about to have a breathing attack. "It's your choice Owen, she's just decided that she wants to marry you. You won't be married until many years from now, and only if you both want to then, as well." Kennard, despite the inward panic, kept his voice calm and soft, hoping to avoid triggering an episode if one wasn't already forthcoming.
Owen calmed a little bit, glancing at the bubbly girl- Alecia. "Hello," He murmured softly, dipping into a cultured bow. "It is very nice to meet you as well, Alecia."

Riordan smiled to Loa, "It was perfectly fine. I'm glad that you were looking out for my brother." the Prince gently took Loas hand on his. "Loa, You've always been here, as long as I can remember." He said softly, looking into her eyes, "I don't know what I would have done these years, had I not had you to help me and to be there to support me." He gave a small sad sigh, "I only wish that you could always be by my side. Not as a bodygaurd but as a...."
"I will not be ingored!" Shouted Jeremy at a small group of nobles passing nearby. "You will listen to reason. This mistreatment has gone on for far too long already, and I will not stand by any longer. They deserve the same rights and privleges as anyone else. They are not different then you or I and..." He thenm promptly had a door slammed in his face. He fumed for a moment before screaming at the door loudly, "I appreciate you listening to my concerns! I hope you take them under advisement!"

Loa gave a wan smile, and decided not to mention the fact that she checked up on Owen every night as well. She blinked and her smile slipped into a bit of shock when he took her hand, and glanced down at their now joined hands. What's... A very slight blush- almost unnoticeable- crept across her cheekbones."I haven't always been there, R-" Loa's eyes widened, and she coughed a little. "My Prince, when you found me you were already nine." Loa smiled softly though, and glanced down. "I-I'm sure you would have been fine, my prince." When he sighed sadly, Loa raised her eyes to his, eyes the bright light blue color that was the national color of Exortensis. She listened intently, unsure of what he would say, scared and hoping at the same time that he'd just be expressing friendship again. The voice drew her notice, and with the tone of it, she drew her sword. Stepping forward, Loa automatically stepped between her prince and the voice. As the owner of the voice came into sight, Loa blinked nad her sword dipped a little. "Is that..." She gaped, reaching into the reccesses of her memory for the boy she'd only been allowed to see once. "Is that Jeremy?"
