The cafeteria seemed lively and there was just a good mood all around. What better way to start the day? Although, Lloyd had noticed Kalay talking with the man on his other side. He looked a bit dangerous but if he was going to come along today than he was a comrade too simple as that. Kalay's reaction to Lloyd's appearance was positive though. When he commented on the young Nipal's liveliness, Lloyd simple gave him a thumbs up with his cheeks full of muffin.

His next comment about Yuka however nearly made Lloyd choke. His face nearly turned blue before he managed to swallow the contents followed by a steady stream of apple juice to wash it down. Over dramatically regaining his breath Lloyd looked at Kalay and noticed him smirking. "Eheh...well you see" Lloyd began rubbing the back of his head with a light blush arising on his cheeks. "Yeah I guess I did. I just thought if we were all going on this mission today then...well I wanted to go without any regrets ya know?" he explained laughing a bit nervously. He sure hoped he didn't ruin Yuka's day by what he did.

Shortly there after Kalay and Varitas got into a conversation. It was rude to eavesdrop, but hell he was curious. Lloyd glanced over a few times absently drinking his 1st bottle of orange juice now. Centra, huh? What Vartias said next got Lloyd's attention as well. It was..well profound and some very good advice. "He's right ya know?" Lloyd commented from the side before cheerfully drinking another swig of orange juice.

Tae tried not to make a big deal out of showering together. It was clear to her that Ellale wasn’t exactly comfortable with it. Perhaps she was shy about her own appearance and there for was uncertain in being naked around others, especially those who hold a special place in the girls heart. Tae wouldn’t know the exact extent of that till much later, right now she just did what she normally did in the shower. However, she hadn’t really taken notice of the girls stare. There were times where she had caught sight of a strange marking on the girls right shoulder blade. It looked like a pair of wings twisted together. Had she seen a marking like that before? Pushing that aside the two finished up in the shower.

Once she had donned on her clothing and blades she accompanied Ellale to her room closing the door as she entered and waited in silence as the other changed out of the borrowed clothing and into her own. A smile warmed her features as she watched and nodded when the girl was finished gathering her things.

Taking Ellale’s hand the two headed out of her room and down the hallway. “I could go with something light to eat,” she mused aloud. Grabbing something to eat would probably be a wise decision. Tae on the other hand wasn’t going to go in heavy though. Maybe a yogurt and something to drink would be settling enough for her.

With that the two headed towards the cafeteria. As they arrived it only took one glance to see it was already lively. Did people normally get up this early in the morning? If Tae had any say she would still have been sleeping for another two or three hours before even thinking about getting up. You could say that she was more of a night owl than a morning bird.

Heading to counter with the dairy products she grabbed a mix berry yogurt, a fruit bowl, and some apple juice. Of course in order to carry all of this she had to release Ellale’s hand. She didn’t mind too much after all the other girl would need both hands to carry her own breakfast as well. Waiting quietly for Ellale to grab what she wanted she glanced around the room to see who was all indeed eating. It didn’t take long before she spotted Lloyd in turn found Ellale’s brother, Kalay, and the guy from the other night; who would be coming with them on this mission.

“There sure are a lot of people up at this time.” She spoke to Ellale when she joined her. “Want to go sit next to Lloyd and your brother?” Though, even as she asked she’d already been heading in that direction. Her eyes glanced over at the destination and noticed what appeared to be a blush on Lloyd’s face as he spoke with Kalay. Yes, she could see it even from where they were as they headed in that direction.

Sou-Ho's eyes ached. He had gotten little sleep that night; it being more than what he had expected but less than he had hoped for. Sitting before a computer within his dorm with an empty mug set to the side with files and papers alike neatly stacked but covering every inch of space on his desk. There was the faint glow of computers screen, illuminating his face and the darkened room behind him. Blinds drawn shut and admitting no light into the room, the single source of light cast long shadows behind him, the shadows touching his face as well, making the dark rings beneath his eyes seem even deeper than they were, his expression even more tired, although probably matching his mood, than what it really was. But even with the mental fatigue of the prior night, his eyes were as sharp and alert as ever, sitting straight backed even in the solace of his own living quarters.

                  'He was right there.'

Sou-Ho had spent the night, once he had managed to get away from the party, reviewing the security footage of the ball last night. From the ball itself, to the hallway leading to the headmasters office. The lobby, the elevator. He had sat through it all, watching, although speeding through much of it, in search of the one whom had infiltrated the garden.

Normally this type of work was left to the security team, SeeDs responsible for the security of the Garden, but Sou-Ho had, after some insistence, taken the duty upon himself. 'If the infiltrator had decided to do more than just ransack the headmaster's office...' It had been a breach of security. And as Sou-Ho had been placed in charge that night, for the Ball, he would have been held responsible had anything gone wrong. Thankfully the Ball had proceeded without many bumps (none one wouldn't expect from the celebrations). But this breach was like a thorn in Sou-Ho's throat. However small it may be, and swallow though he may, that thorn was lodged tight and the pain was a constant reminder to him of his mistake.

Reviewing the recordings, Sou-Ho had, rather quickly, found the culprit. And in truth, had been more than surprised. 'It's too soon to assume that Salem Everett is the culprit, but...' There was no denying that the young man was a definite suspect, not after everything the tapes revealed as far as his movements and the timing of everything. 'I should have looked these over sooner.' After dismissing the operatives, he had briefed Varitas, and then went to the Headmaster, reporting the events of the night and remaining in the ballroom in order to continue supervising the party. Though now it seemed like a mistake, and had he made the wiser decision he might have been able to catch Salem. Might have.

The thought had made Sou-Ho strangely uncomfortable. Salem and Lisanna were related. And yet, from his background research into the two, neither of them had any real history with one another. They had grown up separate, and from what he could tell their meeting last night was the first time they had met.

'A ruse?' He banished the thought. Prepared as he was to link Salem to the infiltrator, he was not quite ready to believe Lisanna was an accomplice. Perhaps against his better judgement, but his gut feeling told him otherwise. 'The real question is, who Salem works for.' Being as famous an entertainer as he was, chances were that this was as much a cover as it was an actual profession. Something he used to his advantage in order to come and go without raising suspicion. And like any entertainer, he had a number of sponsors whom made what he did possible. The question was, which one?

'No use playing detective. What's done is done.' Sou-Ho thought, turning the computer off and getting up, moving about with surprising ease in the darkness despite the momentary blindness.

He fetched his cup from his desk, taking the empty mug, heavier and far less elegant than the usual cups he drank from, and carried it into a small kitchen-like room that was off to the side of the door that led in and out of the apartment. Entering the kitchen, a light flickered on automatically, reading his presence, and a machine that rest on end of the counter beeped on, a red light flashing. He set the mug inside of the compartment of the machine, turning away and opening up a small fridge; scavenging materials used to make a filling, albeit small, breakfast that would tide him over until later.

By the time the mug was filled once more with a dark liquid, that was a putrid in both scent and flavour like sludge, he had already thrown together a salad of some sort, although the various and colorful ingredients would be somewhat alien to our own knowledge. With his desk overtaken by papers, he simply stood in the center of his kitchen, poking at the bowl absentmindedly until it seemed to empty before his eyes. He had no table or chairs, his dorm being mainly bare aside from some of the essentials and bare necessities that one might keep in their home. He rarely had guests, and as the only time ever spent in his dorm was on the rare days he was no working, very rare indeed, he felt little need to decorate his dorm. It was a place to return to when he needed to sleep. Maybe eat, and occasionally work.

Setting the bowl down, he removed the cup from the machine and drained the contents, the flavour far from agreeable but the effect it provided being more than welcome. He exited the kitchen, the light turning off behind him, and moved to his "room"; where there he discarded his clothing, the same clothing he had worn the very night before, wrinkled and disheveled, and slipped into the bathroom to wash the grime of the prior evening away. When he stepped out of the bathroom, dressed in what one could only view as casual clothing, the effects of the drink had kicked in. Though he had only had a few hours of sleep, he looked far more alert than before, and felt much more awake. Hopefully enough to be ready for what lay ahead.

Sou-Ho considered it a blessing, when he stepped out of his dorm, that it was Yuka whom had taken charge of the morning announcements. Hyped up as he was on the caffeine provided by his drink, his mind was not quite in the mental state to deal with The Announcer, as he insisted on being thought of, and his eccentricity. 'One of these days I am going to have to speak with him about these announcements.' He thought sourly, mulberry eyes narrowing as he made his way out of the dorm and to the main building. First stop? The Headmasters Office.

                  ----

"Everything is ready and in place. Once you and your teams have been gathered, transportation will be waiting outside the garden to take you all to the station. From there, you will proceed with the plan as expected. After that, you know what to do." Sou-Ho nodded, knowing well enough how things were to go this morning. His coming here had mainly been to ensure that everything was ready for their departure, and that things would, at the very least, be prepared for when the mission was initiated. "Those willing to go will be gathering in the lobby, probably as we speak." Hopefully, that was. "Shall I have them plan to be absent for a few days, should we be forced to go into hiding before returning here?"

The Headmaster shook his head. "No, that will not be necessary. Once your teams have completed their mission, I want them to return here immediately. Or as soon as possible. Out there, we will be unable to do anything for you. At least here..." The headmaster didn't finish, pausing for a moment and pondering something, then nodding and turning away and walking over to the bookcase.

"Sou-Ho, I would like for you to have this." From the bookcase that covered the wall space of one side of the office, the Headmaster bent down and opened up a set of doors, set low to the ground, and pulled something out from within. Covered in a long silk cloth bag, with a drawstring pulled and wrapped tight, the Headmaster turned around and handed it to Sou-Ho. "In your report you mentioned having lost your sword fighting the SeeD called Caize. I know you had put in a request for a new weapon, but I belayed the request and hoped that you might be more interested in having this instead."

Curious, Sou-Ho stepped forward, taking the bundle and holding it in his hands. From the shape alone he knew what it was, and the weight of it confirmed his suspicions even more. Undoing the drawstring, he slid the cloth off of the object in his hand, letting the cloth fall to the ground, revealing a sheathed sword.

It was a curved weapon, with a hilt wrapped in a red cloth that dangled from the pommel in the form of a tassel and was contained in a dark sheath made of what he assumed to be wood. Although he could see the age in the weapon, his grandfather had clearly maintained it well during the time he had kept it stored. Perhaps taking it out when Sou-Ho was not around in order to see to it's maintenance. He drew the sword from it's sheath. The rasping causing a faint ringing in his ears as he drew it, revealing a curved and well crafted blade. Sou-Ho could tell right away that it was old. As well maintained as it was, when one practiced with a weapon as extensively as Sou-Ho had you gained a certain insight for this type of thing. "It's longer than my old sword." Sou-Ho commented, testing the weight of the sword, but refraining from practicing any forms to avoid breaking any more of the office than what had already been damaged from the previous night. "The weight is also heavier, and the balance is... perfect." But not what he was accustomed to. It would take some time to adjust to the sword, but strangely, even as alien as it was in his hands... 'It feels right.' He thought, sheathing the sword and holding it in his hands, looking down at the weapon.

"It was your fathers." The Headmaster said, an edge in his voice that made Sou-Ho turn his eyes upwards to meet his elder's. His grandfather's eyes were on the weapon, his expression severe as he spoke. "It belonged to your father before his passing. And before him, it belonged to me. If not for Kyrrdis, this weapon might never have made it back to me, or seen the day it would be passed on to you. Though it pains me that I would have to be the one to deem you ready for it, and not your father." The older man's eyes shot up to Sou-Ho's, icy blue eyes as fierce as a blizzard in winter. "This is not a gift from me. This is a gift from your father. Knowing him, he would believe this as good a time as ever to pass it on to you. And I would agree. Hopefully it will serve you as it had your father, and as it had me.

"This is your inheritance from him, but don't forget that it is, in the end, a tool of war. A tool that should be used like any other you possess." Sou-Ho nodded, retrieving the cloth bag and stowing it away once more, pulling the drawstring and holding the sword at his side as inconspicuously as possible. "Take care, my grandson. And don't do anything rash. I lost one child due to a sorceress already. I would like to not lose another and see my line end before my own time."

                  ----

Sou-Ho paused outside of the headmaster's office. He took a moment to look down at the sword and realize what it was he held. "My father's..." This was the first thing of his father's he had ever held, much less seen. Sou-Ho had known that his father was a soldier. Serving with Kyrrdis in the Sorceress War, the two had been comrades. He knew his father was a practiced swordsman. It was how Kyrrdis and his father had become friends, and it was through Kyrrdis that Sou-Ho had managed to learn and practice the same style of swordsmanship as his father. But almost everything linking to his father had been removed from his life. Although the headmaster would never explain it, perhaps the pain of having lost his son had been too great, he had taken every object or item that could be linked to the man and destroyed them. Though why, Sou-Ho could never comprehend, or Kyrrdis, Sou-Ho having asked the latter once long ago.

'But now...' Now he, almost out of the blue, gave him this. Sou-Ho gripped the sword through the cloth. Feeling the weight of the weapon. His father had bore this weight, once. His grandfather had said not to hold sentimental value towards it, that it was merely an object, but Sou-Ho could not deny that this sword, a tool it may be, was without a doubt the most prized possession he could possibly claim to own. His grandfather had clearly thought this item important enough to keep despite his own feelings, and for that it made this item all the more important.

Lowering the weapon, Sou-Ho strode to the elevators. As his grandfather had said, it was a tool, and he wouldn't gain anything from standing here and wasting time pondering it's existence. Now at least he would have a weapon to carry into battle. He just hoped it would be enough to get through what laid ahead.

Lloyd seemed pretty well off up until Kalay mentioned what he had heard over the intercom. If Kalay had any doubt, it was answered immediately as Lloyd started choking on his food. Kalay watched with an amused expression up until Lloyd tried to start explaining himself, Kalay letting out a faint chuckle as he nodded his head as if he understood. "Trust me, I get it." Kalay responded. Perhaps this would calm the young mans nerves a bit. Kalay was amused to having guess correctly, but that was enough teasing he figured. Kalay wasn't much for teasing others anyways, usually he just let them do their own thing. The conversation had then shifted to Varitas though, the man discussing the taste of coffee and it's similarity with the morning. He listened with a passive look on his face, nodding in response, trying to hold back a faint laugh at Varitas's mention of it being good to know the name of the drink.

Kalay did not show a reaction, but he certainly was taken a bit by surprise with Varitas pulling his sir name out of thin air. Perhaps the man had been given more information than Kalay originally thought, but his curiosity did not play on his face as he let Varitas continue, frowning faintly at Varitas's choice of wards. The man was very straight forward in his words, Kalay gave him that. And then, Varitas went into commending him and following it up with perhaps the strangest ending that Kalay would have expected from a complete stranger. Kalay actually turned to watch Varitas with a puzzled look as the man continued, saying his own life was less valuable. Well, that was certainly that. "I'm not a leader." Kalay pointed out, briefly, and rather concisely. He wasn't, not for this mission. He was under Sou-ho, and while none of the others could order him, it wasn't like he was supposed to order them either unless the situation absolutely demanded it. It wasn't his job to keep them in line, that was their own job. He'd taught them for that end.

"Also, I don't quite know where you're coming from with that strange assumption." With that, Kalay slowly got to his feet, his expression still troubled as he turned away, taking note of his sister and Tae heading in their direction. "I'd suggest you worry less about me and more about your own self-concept. You're wasting your time to tell someone about their own value when your own self-concept is terrible. I don't need a suicidal ally running around with us." His words may have been harsh, but at the same time there was definitely that tone of voice that Lloyd might have been familiar with. Kalay was an instructor for a reason, and when he said something with that serious tone of voice, it usually meant not to take his words lightly. "Make sure you aren't a liability that we have to watch out for." With that Kalay took his things and started away, giving a brief wave to his sister and Tae. "Enjoy your breakfast you two, remember to gather in the lobby." and with that, Kalay was on his way, having thrown his trash away his hands were once again in his pocket.

The young woman's face lit up in a happy smile as Tae took her hands and pulled her out of the room. Ellale did take a moment to make sure it was locked up and closed, securing her rifle at her shoulder to make sure it didn't fall off, before letting Tae pull her along. The pair went quickly, going down hallways with very few people and out into the Garden's walkways where some people could be seen enjoying the cool morning air. At one point Ellale swore she saw Lisanna with Carbuncle in tow, but that would be odd. Wasn't Carbuncle usually following Kalay? Why follow Lisanna all of a sudden...? It didn't matter after that point though as Ellale was pulled along, unable to ascertain if it was Lisanna or not with Carbuncle.

The pair did not take long at all to get to the Cafeteria, separating just for the moment to get their breakfast. Ellale was pretty simple in her choice, a fruit salad and water. Milk was a terrible choice as she had learned with the pineapple in the fruit salad. It was just not a fun taste in her opinion, hence why she opted to water instead of something else. After getting her things she met up with Tae, hearing her friends question. "It's like this at various times as similar people get up at the same times day after day. Lets sit next to Lloyd, I think my brother is leaving." As if to prove her right, she saw Kalay get to his feet, seeming not particularly amused as he made his way away slowly, going at his own pace. She could tell the man he'd been sitting next to had said something Kalay didn't like, but she didn't know what and probably wouldn't figure out what.

Ellale and Tae went over to Lloyd, Ellale taking care to sit on the other side of the table from Lloyd, taking in a quick glance at Varitas. She was confused, obviously, but she decided to not try to figure out what would happen while he was there. She could ask Lloyd later. "So Lloyd, I heard a voice confess to someone on the intercom this morning..." And that was Ellale's way of a hello as she watched him with a smile, seeming amused with her comment. In truth, she hadn't really been paying attention to what was going on when she'd heard Lloyds voice over the intercom and then silence. She'd had no trouble recognizing his voice though, after all they weren't pretty much best friends for nothing.

Nona had woken up early and found herself unable to get back to sleep. Frankly that she had managed to get there to begin with was a blessing. She was headed back to Galbadia, right into the heart of the country. She would be astonished if Galbadia SeeD weren’t assigned to protect the sorceress. Lying in bed, she had thought back to those SeeD the group had encountered on their mission. If not for the instructors being there, she wondered if any of them would have made it out alive. Who was backing this mission? Who thought it was a better idea to try and capture a sorceress alive than to just put her in the ground and be done with it? As far as most of the world was concerned, the only good sorceress was a dead one.

Breakfast was a somber, silent affair in her single dorm, taking place a little before dawn. Nona found she didn’t have much appetite, but forced a little food down to avoid starving later. She tried to let her mind wander, but her thoughts strayed for no more than a few seconds before they were pulled back to the mission. Thoughts of home turned to Galbadia. Thoughts of training turned to the Garden she had been sent away from. She tried to lose herself in playing her guitar, but it only lasted a few minutes before she began to wonder about Edea. What kind of woman was she? What kind of woman had she been before the sorceress powers came to her? Who wanted her alive? Nona gave up and slung her guitar over her back, heading out of her dorm. She did have something worthwhile she could do.

She left behind her trainee outfit in favor of an unassuming ensemble. A long-sleeved shirt with a pleated skirt, a tie and some thigh-highs she felt more comfortable in than leaving her legs exposed like last night. She traded her dark boots for some lighter-hued ones. In Deling City, she would have no trouble passing for a normal student, even with her weapon of choice on her. Walking around in the middle of a city with a gunblade wasn’t exactly inconspicuous. The halls of the Garden were all but empty as she made her way out of the dorms and to the east wing.

The library was open early, as she knew it would be; the place was nothing if not reliable. Nona spent a while gathering and flipping through books. History books in particular, but she examined encyclopedias, magical and GF instruction materials, research papers, and more. It was impressive how fast she built up a collection of books by the terminal she reserved. There was only so much reading a restless girl could take, though, and she bounced back and forth from research to another subject. The next few hours passed without a word from the girl, her little corner of the library filled only with the click of her mouse and turning of pages.

Yes...No...No...No, the last question went by and up came a screen congratulating the girl. A five-hundred-gil paycheck really wasn’t going to cut it; thirty-thousand sounded much better to Nona. She turned back to the subject of her research: the Sorceress War, its roots, and whatever tangential topics she could browse that might enlighten her further. The lack of documentation on sorceresses, the secretive nature of Esthar after the war, and other elements combined to leave a frustrating series of dead-ends and loose threads around the entire topic. However, that was not to say there wasn’t plenty of value to be learned.

Now I think I understand
How this world can overcome a man
Like a friend we saw it through
In the end I gave my life for you
Gave you all I had to give
Found a place for me to rest my head
While I may be hard to find
Heard there's peace just on the other side

Not that I could or that I would
Let it burn under my skin, let it burn

{Current Theme Song: Dear God- Avenged Sevenfold}

As he sat there, his Gunblade sitting in his lap, he emerged himself deep within the depths of his own thoughts. Things had happened last night, some at the Ball and some beyond even that. Others had probably done other such things last night. The news of the mission that he and the others were to go on was plenty enough to cause a mental blockade. But not to Riyel. Certainly it had caused a massive surge in thought over what was going to occur the night before...but other things had come up as well, making a more personal attack towards Riyel's sense of priority and mentality. Looking down at the blade in his lap, he only let loose a sigh, looking down at the blade as he stood up, picking up the weapon in his hands and holding it, the leather of the handle being firm in his ungloved hands. The feeling was odd and didn't quite suit him, almost immediately placing his black gloves, fingerless, on his hands. Better. Much Better. With a small yawn, he placed the Gunblade at his hip, the weapon stuck firmly on his side, not really wiggling or dangling. Looking upward, he saw a blonde individual gazing at him and waving. Lloyd.

The individual was obviously making a suggestion to come with him, probably to eat. But Riyel had already eaten. And he didn't feel like talking to Lloyd...not now anyway. The other blonde was a good reason why Riyel was thinking a bit, only shaking his head as he began to walk in the opposite direction. In his hand, which had rummaged into his jacket vest, he pulled out a piece of paper with a sense of decor, a letter. What a way to mess up what's already messed up. he thought as he read the paper, shaking his head as he looked upward, turning down once more and placing it in his pocket. What a bloody mess. Somehow, he had found his way towards the library, opening the door and simply stepping in, looking around. How many times had Riyel actually been in this room? Too many to count some would say. Way too many. He was about to leave, to go onward and perhaps reminisce before they all had to go...and then found Nona. The emotions he were feeling at THAT moment...were iffy. Yet still, he found himself walking forward towards her, standing behind her for a moment before speaking. "Hell of a night...wasn't it?"

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

It was shortly after they’d begun walking that Lisanna heard the child-like, feminine voice speak and she almost stumbled over her own feet and fell in surprise. Carbuncle had actually spoken to her…the creature’s tone making it sound like the most normal thing in the world. Whilst not impossible, it was certainly uncommon for gf’s to speak to anyone but their master, and it was the last thing Lisanna had expected to hear right now. And now there was no doubt that the rabbit gf was indeed a female, as Kalay had confessed. She sounded very young but Lis wasn’t sure about how exactly guardian forces aged, if they aged at all. The girl stopped for a moment, staring after the creature and still apparently in a state of shock, Carbuncle pausing to wait for her. Eventually some part of her mind registered that she should probably answer, which would be the common sense thing to do.

”Ah…thanks, I-I’ll try not to worry…and that’s okay, I figured I’d just, uhm, head to the lobby.” She said lightly, giving a nervous laugh and continuing to walk again. ”Oh but you can of course go and find him if you wish.” She added as an afterthought. It seemed like the rabbit was content to stay by her side, however, which Lis had no complaints about. She was very fond of Carbuncle, even if it felt a little strange after finally hearing her speak and of course everything that had happened last night. Lis decided it was best to avoid thinking too deeply upon anything much right now and took another bite of her apple as she made her way out of the dorm building. By the time she arrived at the reflection pool she’d finished it and discarded the core in a nearby trashcan. Something more substantial than a piece of fruit would probably have been better given the day’s agenda, but Lis didn’t really eat much anyway and if she forced herself to eat more she guessed she’d probably throw it all back up at some point. Her nerves were kind of jittery and she vaguely wondered whether anyone else was also inwardly freaking out about this mission, or if she was just being a coward. After passing the elevators she slowed her pace a bit, meandering towards the lobby where they were all supposed to meet.

It looked like Riyel was the first and only person to arrive yet. A shadow of a frown passed across Lisanna’s features and she stopped. She didn’t fancy waiting alone with Riyel after the events at the ball. Whatever dark part of his personality had made him attack Salem like that, she did not want to get acquainted with. She’d always thought he was a nice guy before that, but now she wasn’t so sure what to think of him. ’Surely he won’t do anything though…’ She thought, attempting to reassure herself and summon the courage to go over. Eventually she got lucky and he actually left, looking like he was heading for the library of all places. Lisanna sighed in relief and wandered forwards into the lobby to sit down on a bench. Carbuncle of course hopped up beside her and curled up as if to nap again. Lis smiled in mild amusement before busying herself and focusing on adjusting the string on her new bow.

”Hey, uhm…I’m sorry about calling you a ‘he’ so many times, by the way.” She said, speaking softly so only Carbuncle could hear even though no one else was around. Whether the gf would respond, she didn’t know. Perhaps that earlier comment was the only verbal interaction Lis would ever have with Kalay’s gf. Nevertheless she felt it appropriate to apologise, even if it mostly Kalay’s fault for not correcting her.

Nona was too engrossed in her reading to notice Riyel coming into the library; probably the only other person there this early that didn’t get paid for it. She had a stack of books on either side of her terminal and another open in front of her, golden-brown eyes moving over the text at a rapid pace. Her back stiffened when Riyel spoke up, but she relaxed for the most part when she realized who it was. After a moment more of perusing the page, she flipped her book shut and glanced back at him.

”Yeah,” she answered, blunt and solemn. There was a silence where she wasn’t sure what to say, before she decided to throw him a bone. He could see her smirk. ”You’re a really good dancer. It was...kinda fun,” It felt like a paltry offering, but she knew he had been worked over by Nebulous and probably lost a lot of credit; he was lucky he wasn’t expelled already. He didn’t need her to rub anything in, and her tone lacked any sense of sarcasm.

Nona was about to dismiss him so she could return to her research, but caught sight of the wall-mounted clock over Riyel’s shoulder. It was almost meeting time...Well, it seemed she had managed to while away the morning with her new studies. ”We’d better get moving,” she noted, getting up from her chair. She left the monitor and books as they were and picked up her guitar which was leaning against the desk she used, slinging it over her shoulder. She nodded for Riyel to walk with her and headed out the door of the library, into the hallway that connected it to the central lobby of the Garden. She didn’t know if there was any real way to diffuse the awkward feeling in the air, but she kept trying to think of it. She didn’t need this weird feeling bugging her on a mission like this.

Riyel "The Silent Flame" Vicaria

Now I think I understand
How this world can overcome a man
Like a friend we saw it through
In the end I gave my life for you
Gave you all I had to give
Found a place for me to rest my head
While I may be hard to find
Heard there's peace just on the other side

Not that I could or that I would
Let it burn under my skin, let it burn

"Really? Of all the things to say, you comment on my dancing?" He chuckled, his voice no longer holding that quiet characteristic, it wasn't a deep voice but it was certainly a young man's voice. His eyes narrowed as he walked beside her. The awkwardness was thick in the air and he knew that it had to be broken. Not only to make a sense of peace between the two but as to affirm that any peculiar emotion wouldn't betray them in the midst of the flurry of combat that was to come. It had to come to an end for that reason. It was easy to see that either Nona held no desire to really talk about it or had no clue as to diffuse the situation for the better of the two. My feelings are irrelevant if they cause something to happen to her during this....'mission.' He held no desire to call this a suicide run. For when that was admitted, there was the admission that there would be no coming back, and Riyel Vicaria would be damned if he didn't come back after the cluster of events that had happened the day prior. He would be DAMNED.

So in that moment, he stepped in front of her in an effort to halt her. "I'm tired of this. Out with whatever you desire to say, I can bear it. We both don't need...whatever this is...to delay and distract us while we are on this mission. Don't dodge the question, either. I am not in a gaming mood." His blue eyes seemed to glow, the normal sky blue eye and the bluish green right eye glared at her, almost with a piercing type of look upon them. It was obvious that he was of the utmost serious now. For better or for worse... He thought, his eyes still keeping their piercing appearance. "All I know is, you helped me in many ways last night. You got me out of my shitty second job when I didn't have the balls to even talk to the man. We danced the night away, I myself having the most fun I've ever experienced in quite some time, and don't deny you were having an enjoyable time as well...then I decked Violin Man." His muscles were tense as his gaze never wavered from her own eyes. "Say whatever you want. I'm an a**. I'm a p***k. But don't leave this to silence. We don't need this before we go." His hands were clenched in fists at the frustration he was feeling. The odd frustration had just...erupted. Perhaps it wasn't frustration be he lacked a better word for it. If she wouldn't say something...he would.

The two shared a quiet laugh in the library at his reply, before they got moving for the center of the Garden. Nona thought the quiet uncertainty of the trek would persist and turned her head to look out the windows of the hall, toward the greenery outside. How she would like to sit out under the trees and call Bahamut to listen to her music...But it would just cause more fuss than it was worth. Laytos was able to walk around with his GF all the time because it was little and cute and no one thought it would eat them. Even as her hackles began to rise, she remembered the last few minutes of her exam. Her expression softened (Riyel couldn’t see it, of course), reflecting on that triumph. From candidate to A-Rank in less than a week; she’d have breezed through those exams in her hospital bed if not for being unconscious at the time.

Vicaria moved ahead of her, and she almost walked into him before realizing he had stopped, pausing to look up at the blonde boy in silent questioning. No gentle humor lingered now as he opened the flood gates. Nona didn’t flinch, her brown eyes staring into his blue ones as he made his demand. He wanted everything out in the open, huh? Well, if he asked for it, she didn’t like pulling her punches anyway.

”Fine. You screwed up royally,” she began, humorless and austere. Nona didn’t need to yell; she could get the idea across without volume. ”If I were in Nebulous’ position, you wouldn’t be on this mission. I wouldn’t trust you with it. If you were in the military, you’d have been court marshaled. If you were just at some rich guy’s dance, you would have been thrown out on your a**.” Her nostrils flared as she stared him down, but then she relaxed some.

”But the ifs don’t matter. Nebulous thinks you can manage the mission, and if you’re in my squad again, I trust I can keep you reined in. You’re a guy who made a mistake. If you want to fix it, then keep a cool head and do your new job well. Make sure you stay alive, and people will move on.” Nona ended with that and, if he didn’t move aside, went around him to continue toward the lobby.

{Current Theme Song: Dear God- Avenged Sevenfold}

Riyel didn't say anything as he listened to Nona. Her words made no large impact onto his thoughts. It was already what he had thought. So as she brushed past him, his eyes didn't follow her nor did he look to watch her walk on. His eyes closed, feeling the air about him as Nona walked away. The clicking and clacking of her feet on the floor were the clear definitions of it, yet in a moment, it was silent once more. And then he laughed. His laughter rang throughout the halls of the Garden, its infectious echo carrying almost onward and onward, seemingly never ending. He felt so much better. Riyel had never felt better. It was an odd feeling really. More or less, he simply felt relieved that he had guessed what she thought...correctly. His laughter died down though, himself moving to lean back against the wall, slinking down until he was in a sitting position. That's better. His cracked his knuckles as he sat there, getting ready to get back up. The SeeD had just needed to sit there for a moment. Yet then he felt the draw in the back of his mind...something that hadn't happened in a long time.

"Come to me boy." said the booming voice of Ifrit. Letting loose a breath at the sound of the voice, Riyel opened his eyes as the heat of the area about him fully struck. The ash that floated in the air as well as the burning smell of brimstone hit his lungs hard, his head shaking to rid the tears caused by the black ash. Hell. That was the only name that this place could bear. Fire and magma circumvented the vast chamber, the air itself seemingly red. Only the sounds of eruptions and steam clashed within his eardrums, giving him a painstaking look on his face. Obviously it was a place that no individual would like to be in...yet Ifrit called him. Ifrit never called him. Something was going on, certainly. Yet Ifrit would not be messing with a weak Riyel this time because apparently the boy was on dealing with personal issues. Why stop now? The only debilitating thing that was going on was the ash and brimstone but that was nothing to be too concerned of. Riyel HAD been in here, once before. THAT had been purely accident, a couple of days after Ifrit had been claimed by Riyel, and the impression of the area had given the lad a valid reason to not desire a return trip to this nether realm of fire.

Fear wasn't with him this time. Stepping onward, his eyes narrowed while looking through the black ash and smoke of the area. The air itself seemed to shimmer with the heat, which in itself was voracious enough. Why did he continue to go on? Because he was asked to. Ifrit had never asked Riyel to do anything for, giving him that said option that came with the open question. Usually, it had been a command, a forceful one at that. His blonde hair swayed at a spray of smoke near him, stepping over a large collections of rock. He was already close, he knew. The path he had been walking was quite narrow. Now however, it stretched into a wider platform. Much larger. In essence, it could have encompassed and held a large house, though he didn't know any individuals that would desire to live in such a hostile environment. In a moment of course, his predictions became true. Before him was the large platform like area, where on the far end, surrounded by a moat of molten rock and flames was a large stone throne. On it lay embedded jewels of many kind, even the rock of the throne itself looked quite majestic.

But something was wrong.

Ifrit was not where he should be, sitting on his high seat in the middle of hell, a fitting place for him. The throne itself was bare, leaving Riyel to truly wonder where he was at. Taking a couple ginger steps, he came a couple of feet to the brink of the moat that lay before the throne. Riyel tired of this game though. "Where are you." he called out, not angrily but obviously not happily. Noone in their right mind would be happy in this sort of environment...except Lloyd. The other blonde's name simply caused to give him a headache, not for the obvious reasons either, startling as it was. Looking around, he only heard a roar above him, looking up as the massive demon of fire fell from the ceiling, landing twenty feet before the small blonde. The impact it had made on the platform was rather significant but the platform itself seemed to be much thicker than it led on. Riyel did not back away though. His feet moved forward until he was only a couple of feet from the giant beast, his blues eyes gazing into the fiery and chaotic pupils of the only other individual there.

"Become a man overnight, boy?" Ifrit snarled, his eyes never wavering from Riyel's. Said blonde did not waver though, continuing to look at the demon. The demon moved towards Riyel, only slightly, until they were almost face to face. The heat from Ifrit continued to pour on the young man, who made no sign of weakness though it was God awful. Noone liked staying in the heat for too long but this was getting a tad bit ridiculous. Yet still Riyel, sweat covering his brow, looked up at the beast. "What do you want." Straight and to the point. The heat was already getting to him and he did not know how much longer he could take being in this environment. No relief would come to him though. Ifrit had summoned him here, thus could only Ifrit allow him to depart. The demon sat on its haunches, its massive claws by both of Riyel's sides as it let loose a great peal of laughter, deep and shaking, causing the the ground beneath them to tremble. "Where is the fear, Riyel?" The being mocked, "The fear that characterized you so well? That which made death your greatest enemy?"

Riyel continued to look at the beast, still standing however. Where had it gone? Riyel looked down at his feet as he thought. It seemed to be a long while but it was only a matter of a couple of minutes. "It's still there." he finally answered. Three words was all that he could come up with. Honestly, there really wasn't a way to NOT be afraid, unless you had absolute control of the situation. Yet even then, things could go wrong as fate dictated. Yes, the fear was still within him. "It's still there but...hidden...or controlled...controlled, that's it." That was better. Riyel bent down, his knees bent as he looked at the ground then back up to the fire demon. "I got the better of it...last night. From hitting Violin Man...to facing the Headmaster and Sou-Ho...to dancing with Nona. I did so much last night that...fear seemed kind of foolish to let dictate my actions. It had almost gotten me killed, didn't it?" The sick irony that the fear of death could do to you...kill you. But it was still there...deep within. "I can't control my fear, for fear is what gives you that bit of a rush to fight more...that desperate cling to survive through whatever is causing that fear. It could rise up again at any day...but today it is certain."

Ifrit only looked down upon the boy, its eyes narrowed as if in its own train of thought. Its breath contained small ruptures of flame, almost as if it were smoking in a sense. The monster only shook its head. "So you have finally realized it?" it whispered, its voice and words seemingly getting into the depths of Riyel's skin, "It finally sunk into that thick damn skull of yours?" The being laughed once more, this time whole heartedly. The words that Ifrit spoke weren't aggressive that time, almost fatherly and caring. "I would say I'm proud but its taken you too long for my to say I'm quite proud....rather, I'm satisfied." The beast stood up, leaping with a massive grunt and landing on its throne, turning and sitting. His eyes didn't leave Riyel as the young man stood up as well, looking at Ifrit with curious eyes.

"I'm not afraid of you anymore." Riyel whispered, clenching his fists. Ifrit only smiled, a horrid sight. Its teeth were pure white but the expression itself was something that would horrify a young child. "You learned." The monster let loose another laugh. Then it hit Riyel. All the crap that he had gone through, Ifrit's tirades and insults...were a lesson?! A lesson on fear for him? What kind of sick thing was that? Riyel was surprised he did not develop personality and emotional issues, all the insults Ifrit had thrown his way. "Are you KIDDING me?" Riyel spat, looking at the demon, "All that s**t you put me through...was a lesson?!" He gripped a rock on the ground and threw it at Ifrit, who only roared, engulfing the object with a blanket of fire. "Yes, you damned fool! But don't you forget who is the master of this realm! Choose your stupid actions wisely!" Ifrit's eyes were dark at that, looking at Riyel with a ferocity he had never seen before. "Yes it was lesson. And now look at you, all the better that you finally completed it! We are beings of fire! We burn greatly, encompassing all that tries to hold us. We are not like WATER, which douses the brightest of flames." Ifrit's voice snarled at the term water, referring to the particular thing that had been bugging Riyel this morning, who in turn frowned at the remark, "Fear is not our lifestyle! Now look at you! You stand before me, a better man! Don't you complain over what has transpired over these several years."

Riyel couldn't say a word. He would have if he could have...but there was nothing to say. Ifrit spoke the truth..."But it's not over yet. That dark voice broke his thoughts, "You completed the lesson...but the test is to come...don't fail me now." The beast lounged in its throne, "When you need me...call me. We shall do what has to be done. And I might grant you a gift come that time." And in that moment, the heat was gone.

Riyel awoke, being back in the Garden Hall once more. Shaking his head, he rose to a stand. That confrontation had been...interesting. Spitting in a trash can by his side, he gripped his hands into fists, the black leather becoming tight across his hand. Fine Ifrit...you're smarter than you let on. And with that, he walked away towards the direction Nona had gone, finally returning to where he had been initially. Nona was there now, as well as Lisanna. Perhaps it was still awkward between the two of them but Riyel didn't care about her, for that reason. They weren't on the same team for this mission, both doing something different than one another. That bridge would have to mend over time, like Nona had said. Stay alive and move on...then perhaps some secrets could be shown and some grudges swiped clean...stay alive....

Essentially, leave the heroics to the proffessionals had been what the strange man had tried to say, but clearly something had come out wrong. apparently the man's character had varied from those Varitas had met in the past. Socializing had never seemed to go Varitas' way, these people were just so very strange... Or perhaps, Varitas thought to himself, I'm the odd man out. "It's good that you go into this task with a heart free from the weight of regret." His words were spoken with conviction, yet softly, and the man's eyes were cast once more to the empty cup. Following this statement, the stranger stood and silently dismissed himself, leaving behind nothing which belonged to himself. He would find his way to the assembling area, and hopefully get this mission finished so that he could return to where the world made sense, and people weren't so touchy.

Kalay didn't seem to take what Varitas said well and, after responding with his own thoughts, chose to head out. Lloyd was generally surprised but he waved to him nonetheless. And then came his usual day brighteners. He blinked in surprise but grinned instantly when he recognized two of his most bestest friends in the whole wide world."Pretty Kitty~!" he chimed and hugged her. "'Allo there Tae" he greeted his other friend as well. For Lloyd it was no surprise seeing the two together, though usually he was with them completing the trio. Out of the two though, Ellale was definitely the closest to him only because he had known her the longest. When she asked about his over the air confession, Lloyd's face flushed again and he let her go taking a swig of his orange juice. "W-well eheh, cause of the mission today I wanted to go with no regrets so um..yeah" he laughed nervously rubbing the back of his head.

Truthfully, he had considered doing what he had done to Yuka to either Tae or Ellale, but considering the mission the last thing he wanted to do was jumble their heads. He turned to his right and saw Varitas by himself as if lost in thought, so as per usual with Lloyd he threw up a hand and grinned. "Hiya! The name's Lloyd Nipal, nice to meetcha!" he greeted cheerfully. "Please forgive Kalay, he suffers from CLD. That is 'Chronic Laziness Disease" Lloyd added with a bit of laughter. "But hey, I'm hopeful about today, so lets do our best yeah" he extended his hand in friendship.
