Really the only reason Gale had yelled for Boss was that A.) The older girl was in his view and was pretty damn capable of taking charge of the situation if need be, and B.) Well, yelling for another guy seemed a tad awkward. And he couldn't shout for the one person - the only person - he trusted completely at the current moment, since Leslie was no where to be seen (Where was that damn sister of his when he needed her, anyway?). So he had pretty much just picked someone out of the crowd and yelled.

Now, thinking back on it, Gale felt significantly stupid. He was not a child; he had never wanted to be considered a child, except here he was...being childish. How utterly pathetic. He kind of wanted to bury his head in the sand and disappear from the world. Kinda like one of those ostriches. Except, you know...less fluffy. And less ugly.

More had joined in the fight now, several of them defending against the wave of distorted, disgusting creatures rapidly surrounding them, but a few others had decided to go at the thing holding Gale hostage. It sort of surprised him, especially the ones who were helping that were not former Betas (had Before just thrown a shoe?). He hadn't exactly expected for them to be all into saving someone they didn't know, but the fact that they had been willing to put someone else's needs ahead of their own...well, it kinda made him feel...

...he didn't know what to feel. Except maybe overwhelmingly grateful for their attempts, even if he didn't know them. Wasn't this whole thing about being a part of the team, anyway? He tried to look to their instructor...who...was...still missing. Of course. Where did that friggin' guy go - !

Gale's eyes flitted up towards the creature holding him hostage. Then he began flailing around angrily, kicking furiously despite the fact that his leg felt as if it were on fire. I'll be damned if I'm gonna let those guys do all the work while I just dangle here uselessly.

"YOU FRIGGIN b*****d LET ME THE HELL GO!"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:43 am

Why yes, indeed, Before had thrown his shoe at the creature that had snatched Gale. And yes, he was expecting it to return to him. Somehow. No, do not question why, because he would tell you that this wasn't the first time he'd resorted to using the deadly but treacherous Booterangs. Please don't ask why he deemed them treacherous either. It involved winning a Darwin Award during testing and while he had saved Bix back then, it wasn't Before's best moments.

He felt himself being lifted to his feet, yelping much like a puppy that just had its tailed stomped on when he put weight on the sole of his injured foot. "B-Boss? This is you, right?" he asked. It was hard to see with the lids of his eyes had sorta melted and fused shut thanks to the acid-breath to the face. "What's happening? What's going on? Is After okay?" xAx!!!!

There were more questions eager to come shooting out of his mouth but hearing Gale yelling made him pause and angle his head towards the sound. Except with everything going on, Before ended up turning away from where Gale was. "You can do it, After! YOU CAN!!!" he yelled out in encouragement. Hell if Before actually knew what exactly he was yelling the young Beta could do but he just knew Gale could do it.

Blinded and with what was a bad limp, Before was so tempted to tell Boss to just dump him and save herself. xnx And yet, he didn't. He wanted to survive this hellish mission. No matter the cost.

Cass relinquished her bat when she was pulled out of the acid, her flesh hissing in protest of the pain in her limbs and her poor knee was telling her she might have just broken it with her attempt to play at being a hero. Her brain was moving at least three times slower than her body was at reacting to what was going on, and it had nothing to do with the fact that she was shell shocked.

Her brain always didn't catch up with her emotional impulses when it really counted.

That was it's job, after all.

"I don't know how effectively I can make promises against doing stupid things." Cass coughed and groaned, her insides wanted her to heave, but again she felt as though she hadn't actually eaten anything in days. Was she in the system of AM and this was all some sort of computer simulation to keep her consistently tortured by altering her perception of time? She would have shuddered at the thought of it if her body would have actually reacted to what she was thinking instead of what was going on three steps ahead of it.

"Doing s**t on a whim is sort of my specialty." she stood up straight, despite the protest in her knee, wincing a bit. s**t. She really wasn't cut out for this line of work as she was now, and it was becoming clear to her now. She wanted to be like Mr. Teleporting-man who could just go

POW POW POW

And take everything down. That had been fabulous.

"I'm not trying to hit on anybody, man. It just comes out unfiltered the way I thought it." She forced another one of her grins. She wasn't about to try and get her bat, however, not willing to dive back into the bile. Instead she backed off to allow the others in the group a better opportunity to strike.

She couldn't attack in the condition she'd just thrown herself into.

Dammit, it was acting like this that had made her explode her head without a second thought. Would she be the death of herself?

Jeremy had dealt with the sudden 'attack' of Ariane's greeting and had been about to answer her question when things happened. Mainly, a hoard of terrible things. Creatures he didn't imagine could honestly exist and yet here they were! He was mostly useless in the first wave; his gun just wasn't firing for whatever reason. When the call for bats came the gun was put away and the blunt weapon was rolled between his palms. This weapon still felt wrong, but it would have to do. He watched as the kid was, well, kidnapped and a majority of their team mates rose to his rescue, which left the blonde to stare out in both disgust and horror at the next wave that was getting ever closer. Something in the pit of his stomach twisted, and as he watched the second wave of creatures lurch forward he felt a momentary paralysis; there were too many of them. They took too long to get beaten down. There was no way they could survive this, no ******** way.

He watched them fight anyway, doing everything they could; Had that one guy thrown a shoe?! He couldn't help the little snicker of amusement and a light "Nice Throw!" to his comrade. They were doing just fine, so what the hell was he doing?

Jeremy gulped, moving to secure his grip on the bat. The might not be able to survive this, but like hell he was going to go out without a fight! Not with everyone else trying so hard. Like them, he had died, he had come back, and he had things to do. Important things. This crazy hoard of probably-once-mostly human creatures? One day they were just be a minor roadbump. Yes, that's all they were. Psyching himself back up from the depths of despair he was beginning to fall into, Jeremy rooted his feet and swung.

It wasn't the shattering blow that he wanted, but he did feel the bat catch on something of the enemy. That was a start at least! Hitting the thing was always good, it proved that it was real, and able to be hurt. A quick recovery from the impact vibrations later found Jeremy once more planting his feet for a second swing.

"YESSSSSSS~" The resounding crack that followed was satisfying, the new favourite music to his ears. Whatever he had hit was knocked backwards, it's chest dented and broken. Though his arms ached from the impact and the effort only made his chest feel tighter, the surge of pride that flit through him was more than enough to compensate. Not letting the subsequent hacking cough get to him, Jeremy rolled his shoulders and took a step back, smacking his lips and biting down on his thumb nail.

He turned his attention to his comrades, a proud grin splitting his lips. Though he took a glance at most of them in turn, his gaze stopped and held on Ariane; Oh come on, she had to have seen that!

... Wow, that kid is sure sweary. Still, he was struggling and that prompted a brief nod of approval from her; at least that made him more difficult to drag away. Probably.

If Before was a little smaller and Ariane a little stronger, she would have piggyback him since they were sort of retreating one side and running after the Gale-kidnapper on the other. However, all she could do was help the guy forward one step at a time, careful to avoid the acid puddles on the ground; they did not need any further damage.

"Yes it is," She replied with a frown, not that he could see it, "We need to move - the people covering our backs might not be able to hold out and we still need to make sure Gale is okay. Grow some balls, bear with the pain, and follow my lead."

Too bad she didn't feel quite as confident as she sounds.

She then sighed, gently holding Before's chin and turning his head towards the correct direction, where Gale was; while she was doing this, however, she caught sight of a certain dark skinned male. Looking really good while swinging his bat about.

He had always been so reliant on Dean for this and that. Seeing him in action... Is not too bad.

"Didn't know you had it in you, Jeremy~ You look great," She grinned, yelling in his direction; there was that usual tone in her voice, like she was teasing again, but it was a compliment. A compliment her friend would no doubt be able to catch... Unless he was too busy with fighting, of course. Turning back to face Gale, she made sure Before's arm was secured around her shoulders before moving towards the 'kid' (and his captor). The progress was slow, but at least they were not in the way of the incoming horde and those working to keep them at bay...

Oh, he caught the compliment. He was well used to her tones and this particular one wasn't heard often, at least with any form of sincerity. Hearing it in regards to his batting skills just made the pride grow, feeling for perhaps the first time a sense of independence he didn't know he had in him. It was just a flash, but it was there; perhaps he could do this without leaning on Dean. It wouldn't be easy, but it was doable.

"Damn straight!" Jeremy called back with a similar grin...and then took note of what she was doing. She was heading towards the kid and his captor, taking the boot-throwing, injured person with her? What was she...why was she...ugh! Gold eyes widened, and then narrowed, helpfully yelling in her direction. "And what the ******** are you doing?!" It was a mostly rhetorical question, he could very well see what the ******** she was doing, and in response he gripped his bat and slowly made his way after her, trying to not step in the acid that injured a good majority of the team.

"Give...him...?" Jeremy was pretty sure that was a male, but he could have been wrong. "To me, you idiot. I'll take him back to the group." He urged, his voice hard. He couldn't have this stranger put Ariane in more danger than she already was; Jeremy might have been doing alright on his own for the first time in his life, but he still needed her. Needed her alive, of course, so he was going to help make that happen.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:03 am

Before tried his best to smile at Ariane's encouraging words but with his wounds feeling like they were on fire, it was a herculean task to say the least. He sniffled, wiping at his nose with the back of his free hand, while the other that was slung over the female's shoulder gripped tighter around his damaged bat with each step they took. "R-right, right, moving! We're moving! I-I'll keep up. Just, just don't start doing a Tango or a Rumba or something." Was he joking? It was hard to tell with Before. He hobbled along, slowly, wishing he'd thought to use the booterang sooner. Maybe then he wouldn't have ended up like one of the three blind mice only instead of cutting of his tail, he might lose his leg. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. Survive at all costs, remember?

"Which way are we heading? A-and who's Jeremy?" he asked, unaware of the female Beta's history with this unknown teammate of theirs. "Don't tell me you know one of the hag-thing's friends." xAx!?!?!? He felt someone jostle him away from Ariane and was immediately seized with panic. "No, no, no, no, no, no, I don't know youuuuuu!!! Too much like a stranger-danger moment!!! No bad touch, please!" He whimpered. /)xAx/)!!!!!!

"You can't possibly fight and carry him at the same time," She frowned at Jeremy, as if hesitating; it's not that she didn't trust him to do a good job, but on her 'List of Hunters who might be useless and need constant watch', Before was above Jeremy in ranking... And she did not want Before to endanger Jeremy in any way. Especially since he had started screaming 'no' like a two year old.

"... Fine, but make sure you be careful," Her frown deepened as she handed the injured Before over, helping him to put his arms around Jeremy's shoulders despite his protests, "He's kind of... Blind and limping now." Meaning he's currently a liability, effective 'BOOT TO THE HEAD' skills or not.

"If you squirm again, I swear that I am going to knock you out myself," Her eyes narrowed as she poked Before, hard, on his arm, "I trust Jeremy, so you should too. I know him far before I met any of you."

Not that he had a particularly good history, but still!
PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:48 am

"Holy hell you're loud!" Jeremy winced as Before started to panic. "Shut up!" He demanded next, pulling one of Before's arms across his shoulder and snaking his free arm across the blind one's back with Ariane's assistance. "My name is Jeremy, you should trust me because we're a team." Did he sound irritated? Yes he did. Was he still amused under it all? Yes he was. When he wasn't talking he was chewing on his tongue, wishing that he had gum with him. Uuugh he needed gum.

"And while true, it's generally not nice to call her a Hag." He couldn't help it, it was just too easy. Flashing one final grin at Ariane, Jeremy led Before back to the main group, trying his best to avoid any acid and any flailing the brat might do. "Christ man, you look like s**t." He'd gotten a good look at Before's face; it wasn't pretty. "I hope your face doesn't stay that way." The blonde commented idly.

"Yes'm," Before mumbled, partly out of obedience to Boss, and partly because his panicking was making his injuries worse. Like by ten billion times. Silence seemed to be the best way to alleviate the ungodly pain, but this was Before. Keeping his mouth shut felt about as unnatural as, say, tapdancing with Oreo cookies dipped in cola. It didn't necessarily have to make sense either but there you have it. There was a tiny part of him that felt resentful about Jeremy's presence. Maybe it was because he was jealous of the history Jeremy had with Ariane. Maybe it was because he couldn't come up with any nicknames for the guy. Granted, Before was in no condition to be focusing on anything other than surviving and not being a useless pile of monster-bait.

It was only when they neared the group did Before realize, "Heeeey, Boss isn't a Hag." >XC!!!! The jab about his face being s**t was met with a grimace, mostly because he wasn't going to argue with fact. "Nnngh, maybe the monster-things will mistake me as one of them?" Wishful thinking perhaps, but whatever keep him going. "B-Bix! Bix, you doing okay, dude?" he suddenly called out. He wanted to make sure the Betas were doing okay. "You know what happened to Tika and David?" Sure he was terrified of the one-armed man, but he was badass. And they need badasses on their side at this point XC

"Get behind me guys!" He'd been too in shock, a little too slow to help with Gale's attack. Of course a bunch of people ended up jumping in to help and so part of it was that he couldn't find an opening. What he could do, was cover their backs. The former beta seemed to work much better under pressure than he did as an everyday guy.

He manuevered himself between Ariane, Before, Jeremy and Gale. He motioned for them to get behind him, get Gale safe! The bat had failed him. Of course the gun had it's moments too but he felt more confident with the firearm than he did throwing himself into the fray with flailing melee.

He pulled the gun out of his pants, fiddled with the reload and the safety, and opened fire into the advancing horde. These monsters were trickier and the one he targeted moved quickly out of the way.

"s**t!"

"Grrrr!" It seemed that missing pissed Bix off after his streak of great shots. He glanced behind him, just a moment to make sure everyone was okay. he didn't know that Jeremy guy but he was right. They were all a team. Beta or Phoenix or whatever squads didn't matter anymore.

He lined up his shot again and grinned slightly as he watched the slug tear through one of the advancing monsters. He wasn't so bad at this after all!

Attacking the second mob had only succeeded in one thing: angering them even more. Instead of limping slowly, they began running some on three limbs, some on four, hurling towards the circle of trainees, making a beeline for the ones that provoked them.

One of them broke from the line, soaring into the air to land like an overgrown parasite right over Petra, one arm splitting wide open, jaws just grazing the trainee's left arm, leaving wide gashes in its wake as it slightly missed its target. The thing toppled over: half of what could have been a normal white collar worker had it not been missing its body and head. Its arms - mouth- hissed, and it tensed up backwards, legs bending the wrong direction, ready to attack again.

And before anyone could react, a second and then third followed, one that managed to get a hold of Ennéa, its jaw clamped down against her left wrist, attempting to drag the trainee onto the ground backwards. The third snagged a fortunately Jeremy's shirt, toppling over as the fabric gave away. Even the surviving creature attacking Gale had not given up its prey, attempting to drag the boy instead closer towards his demise.

The strange parasites had not only succeeded in scaring the group but also, as trainees scrambled to collect their wits together, were doing an excellent job of thinning the Hunters, one by one. The distance between the creatures and their victims was only a matter of mere moments: the trainees would have to make a decision call: either make a stand or retreat. Thirty yards away the other direction stood a house, a small modest brick standing, though its most outstanding feature was that it had no windows and only a single solid oak door.

Apparently the monsters were pissed. And scary. SCARY AS HELL.

Bix felt his insides tightening as multiple monster leapt upon the group of trainees. Gale was still tangled and now the pink haired girl was trapped too. Jeremy seemed to get lucky and the female half of the soap opera couple was now being attacked. DAMN!

"There!" Bix pointed at a brick shelter not far away. "Everyone get back. Get the wounded to the shelter. Try to free these guys! The most important thing is that we ALL STAY LIVING!" His voice may have risen to a manic pitch and may have not have thought himself much of a leader but he was yelling ALL SORTS of things that needed to be done. No particular order.. and he wasn't directing anyone.. but at least he was putting himself out there.

"Get... OFF!" He wheeled with his gun. Gale was closest and wounded. He had to help!

His shot was right on but the gross monster spray landed on him, burning him as well. "AHHH!!!"
