Dulnair Just tried Malzahar. He's pretty nice. I still don't feel like I'm playing the game right, though. But maybe that's 'cuz I'm trying to measure myself through my KDR. I am not a very aggressive player. :I I'm scared of his ult crying
It's really less about being conservative or aggressive as a playstyle and more about evaluating the situation and seizing the opportunities they give you. My strategy mostly consists of continuous harassment and waiting for my opponent to screw up. Then, when they are half health and just missed their most important skill, ran themselves out of mana, or got too close to my turret, I react with lightning ninja skillz and rape their faces while they're at a disadvantage. This way, if I miss one of my skills, the worst that can happen is they get away, since whatever they need to take me down is either on cd, or costs more MP than they have, or they're in a bad position to be attacking.

THOUSANDS FLEE YOUR NAME. ...<3 Actually, they heard it was your birthday and got you a present that could only be bought by throwing themselves in front of a girlbus. Also yeah, that sounds like good advice. I just have to remember to keep mana on me. :I

I always buy a few if I'm using a mana-heavy champ and have a couple extra gold while I'm at spawn. (That is, if someone else on my team is hogging the blue)

which purple guy are you using tho? I figure Ryze, though I can use Soraka halfway competently. They're only 450 IP, so... Although if Malzahar is still free to play when we do it, I wouldn't mind using him. ...And I heard Alistar can be built in, like, fifty different ways...
