What was that noise? Another landslide? Worse?
Korsi would have been offended someone had thought her whers were such a thing! The Wherhandlers that had been at the hatching from the beginning were either obeying Bekar, digging of their own accord or finding some other way to be helpful.
The heavy big boned! widow stormed onto the grounds like a woman on a mission. Why not? That's just what she was! Her gold wher trailed behind, and behind her, ten other handlers and their own whers.
"BEKAR YOU SHARDING FOOL! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ASSOCIATE WITH THESE DRAGONRIDERS!"
In her sixties if not older, the hunchbacked wherguard -- now Whersecond, having ranked behind Bekar -- found him in the crowd. The glows didn't allow him the ability to see if she were crying or not; it could have just as easily been sweat running down her cheeks.
"GET TO WORK YOU IDIOTS! DIG! NOW!"
Dig the whers did.
"Where is that idiot Sesabal? He doesn't know a sharding thing about tunneling! Who does he think he is to lead these people?! Brambel would have been better and we know sharding well how smart he was, apparently!"
(Kellon and those around her have found the foot of a male Wingleader. He seems to be among the dead.
Kalania and those around her have found a living, male Wingleader.)

Mine, I do believe this is a live someone, her dragon intoned, and she jumped immediately over to her dragon's now still forelegs. A body lay half covered in dirt and earth, nearly unrecognizable. But she could see the movement of the chest, and could tell it was at least.
"Someone help! Tochinath found someone! We need a healer!" she bellowed, her small body producing a remarkably loud sound. Scrambling to finish unburying him, she pushed rock and dirt away and tried to drag him away from the rubble, even though he weighed nearly 3 times her small weight.
I've got him, Mine. Help me here. Tochinath bent his shoulder and between the two of them, they heaved the man up and out of the rubble onto the more(hopefully) stable grounds beyond the collapse.

Contrary to Beksk's desires, Prigdith only roared louder.
"Shards, Prigdith--shut up!" Felena shouted, glaring up at her dragon. She had been poking at a cut on her arm that a falling rock had given her, but was now totally forgetting her 'three c's' of life in favor of trying to get her stupid fat dragon to quit roaring so perhaps they could get out of here. The Gold hissed and returned the glare, but surprisingly enough, lowered her roar to a still considerably audible snarl. If we were not stuck here-- "But we are, Prigdith! And you're only going to make it worse by being so loud." Felena cut the Queen off, tearing a strip off of her tunic to bind the cut. Prigdith shifted around her clutch, tucking her tail in close to the foremost egg. This was a mess, plain and simple, but the Gold wasn't about to let any more of her offspring die today. She had already had enough of that.
When another rumble came, both Prigdith and Felena looked up--something else was happening. Perhaps it was the whers? Or maybe it was just another landslide to say 'oh hey you two, life hates you and so we're going to crush you down here, that okay?' That would just be perfect.

Ash returned from collecting another load of glowbaskets to a very angry wherhandler. Well, maybe the woman would get things done. Panting hard, the lanky woman set about spreading the still bright glows around the edge of the pit. This done, she tossed down the baskets of three dead ones she'd found in the general direction of X'nar and Bekar, and Kalania.
Right. More glows. Shards. This was starting to get tiring.
*****
A basket bounced off his head. X'nar just about managed not to yelp in surprise like a little girl. Well, this was something. Swiping sweat from his brow, he scooped some of the loose soil and smaller stones surrounding that feminine hand and tossed it out of the way. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat. Move a bigger stone. Rinse and repeat.
Shards.
He really needed a drink.

Well it looked like the calvary had arrived, what with that woman running around leading a pack of whers. Jerishude had only seen the one out there digging alongside the rest of the candidates and those who wanted to help dig away. He moved further to the side and thus more away from the main group of people, his hands tossing rocks to the side with ease. He was a candidate after all, manual labor was no stranger, but was it really doing him any good to be this far away? At least he wasn't bumping into people or worse, getting in the way of a wher, so maybe his position was for the best. Let the new riders, old riders, and the wherhandlers do their job. He could mosey around and help out to the best of his ability, but that was about it. He had no connections to these people other than lessons and names, maybe the occasional face and personality to go with it.
The only people he knew had already impressed, so why was he still worrying about those that were buried beneath the stone? Was the roaring queen and her ice-b***h of a rider worth saving that much? How about the eggs? It was funny that his mind was moving slower than his hands were and he soon had a little hole where he was digging. Of course he couldn't see anything to tell if he'd actually found anyone beneath but judging by the sounds. . . maybe the others had found something?
"Hello in there. . . is anyone down there?"
He didn't really shout or anything but at least he was making an effort to see what was going on. Jerishude didn't want people to die on account of him, that would sort of make it hard to sleep at night.

So many people! So much yelling!
Ialluth was beginning to get very nervous. It was difficult for her to try and filter all these humans as they prattled on, especially when her rider lay buried somewhere. People were being found now, one dead, one alive. No F'sey. No J'aro. (Ialluth couldn't be brought to care about the screaming Queen. Just because she was gold did not make her any more important or any more in danger than her boy.)
There was so much rumbling. Panicking slightly, the green tried not to knock into any people or whers as she clawed at another rock.
Xanthoth. Beksk! I cannot find them! What do I do? And then, to solve the wher's problem, Ialluth addressed a Queen, for perhaps the first time in her long life. Enough of your crying Prigdith. Your children are just hatched, and more useful. You are not the only one buried!
Hers was still down there! He came before the Queen, even if she was the only one who thought so!

"Crackdust!" The words came from A'tsu lips, strange words for a man who was never much more than mild. Maybe, maybe it was his dragons anger. Lets pretend that's the case.
Because Jacth was furious, turning on Emaleth with a low hiss. If he'd been a cat, his fur would be standing on end. As it was, his eyes whirled bright, fierce red. He very much hat- that is, he was feeling a lot of dislike toward the bronze at the moment. The Whitemaster saved us. Saved you, Emaleth. He risked his life for us and now you'd like to let him die? I am ashamed of you.
At the very least, his fury, was enough to keep him from fighting A'tsu, who had, at this point, released him.
"Jacth, you will stay here with Emaleth. I will try and help. But only if you stay here. If you move, we both leave." It was not A'tsu's normal tone, but a low, rumbling growl. The dragon, almost pointedly, lay down where he was.
Hurry mine. And then, trying because he wanted to believe, even if it wasn't true, that his connection with his idol would be enough, he tried to reach the Whitemaster. Sir? Sir, are you okay?
But he was a young dragon, who'd never even mindspoke the man before. It'd likely be for naught. Not to mention, even if he was heard, it wasn't like J'aro would be able to respond.
A'tsu meanwhile, sprinted to K'yne's side and began moving rocks, his huge build making it a bit easier, "You," he said, without even looking at his partner, "are a fool. A wherry-brained dimglow. This is not safe."

"I got you, you're okay," R'xen soothed as he carried his son towards the Healers. The chaos around them began to settle and by the time the Whitesecond had reached his destination the tunnel snake was dead and the Hatching had begun. Later, he'd learn of Brambel's sacrifice, but at that moment he had eyes only for his son. Settling Roxyn down where he could be tended to, the man remained with the boy, half-watching the hatching and half making sure that the healers were doing their job properly. Eventually, after his large hands had been batted away several times and he'd received quite a unhealthy number of dirty looks, R'xen took the hint and backed off a little, giving the healer room to work.
It was a huge relief when the healer proclaimed that Roxyn was live and that the boy just needed some numbweed and rest. He'd be tended to more carefully once the Hatching was finished – there were, after all, some very injured candidates – and R'xen helped move his son over to the side and out of the way. Settling down beside him and giving him a fatherly hair ruffle, the Whitesecond was prepared to wait out the entire Hatching watching from the nosebleed section. After the horrendous events preceding it, the actual Hatching seemed to go fairly smoothly from what he could tell. Not too many screams and squeaks, but that was to be expected. There were no whites in this clutch, after all. What could possibly go wrong?
Clearly he shouldn't have asked that.
The rumbling started right after the brightly coloured green Impressed, a deep shaking from within the earth. For half a second R'xen wondered if there another, even bigger tunnel snake deep within the island that was making its presence known. He had never in his wildest dreams dreamt that the ground beneath the eggs would collapse. When the crowd turned and fled towards him the whiterider paled, torn between protecting his son's body and trying to figure out what was going on. That decision was made for him when he watched the entire gold dragon and all the land behind her disappear into the ground. The cries of dying dragons were enough to tell him one thing: the death had only just begun.
"Do not let him out of your sight!" R'xen grabbed a candidate unfortunate enough to pass by him and all but threw him at Roxyn. Assured that somebody would guard his son from being stepped on, the whiterider all but ran across the remaining 'sands' towards the pile of rubble. "J'ARO! J'ARO?!" The presence of Korsi and her whers was the only thing that stopped him from throwing himself into the pile and trying to dig his friend free himself. Sweat trickled down his back at the thought that J'aro was in there somewhere, dead or alive he did not know and wouldn't know until he found his remains. His dragon couldn't tell him.
"NEW DRAGONRIDERS GET BACK!" R'xen bellowed, loud as Korsi though nowhere near as mean. "You get caught you kill your hatchlings! Stay out of the wherhandler's way! Help them move the bodies to the healers and keep your sharding dragons out of the way!" Refusing to stand idly, the Whitesecond began lifting what he could, tossing rocks out of his way as he worked. "J'aro! J'ARO!"

There were shouts that people were being found, and now that there were glows set around the edge of the drop-off, Ren felt she would probably do more good if she helped dig those people out. It was not an accident, however, that her glow basket happened to fall into the darkness below. Maybe someone down there would see it and find it helpful.
Picking a direction at random, she set off to help shift stones and found herself unpleasantly surprised to be working near Jerishude. At least she didn't need to speak to him for this part of the action. They just had to move rocks. That could be done in silence. In fact, if more people would work in silence, that would be better. Then she could hear what was going on.
"Shift over," she said to him. "Let me help."

Mairin and Curith + anyone around: Saying he was lucky was stupid, but this Wingleader had been luckier than some. He feared the worst when he heard the rocks move, but they toppled down and formed an opening just large enough for him to pull himself through.
His arm was broken, probably one of this feet and he'd definitely need that bleeding eye of his removed, but he was alive.
"Thank you, girl. I won't forget this."
Kalania and Tochinath + anyone around: The rider was breathing, but unconscious. Shortly after she freed him he was carted away by the healers.
X'nar + anyone around: The woman was pulled free and X'nar's day just got worse. This person was someone he would recognize; she had once backhanded J'aro publicly and was a known fighter against the new dragons. She was unconscious as well.
Jacth: His voice did not reach the Whitemaster. Was the man knocked out or...? Oh, what a terrible thing to consider!
OOC:::
Found: Mairin and Curith - Male Wingleader; Living Kellon and Friends - Male Wingleader; Deceased Kalania and Friends - Male Wingleader; Living X'nar and Friends - Female Wingleader; Living
Still missing: Felena and Gold Prigdith - Female Goldrider F'sey of Green Ialluth - Male Wing Leader J'aro of White Rajath - Male Whitemaster NPC - Female Wingleader
(Other Wingleaders were on the opposite side of the collapse and are aiding in the efforts.)

When he uncovered her face, he could have punched it or even stoved it in with a rock. Pushing down the violent urges that he was sure Faladeth was exacerbating, X'nar settled for spitting in the unconscious woman's face. "See she gets to the healers, and that she knows who found her," he growled. Then, as an afterthought; "See she knows I ******** spat on her too, the b***h." This said to those around him, X'nar grabbed his basket and scrabbled across the uneven ground to join R'xen.

" . . . . "
Jerishude couldn't think of anything to say to Narenne as she approached his side and told him to shift over, nor did he think of anything to say when a man he knew to be a whiterider rampaged though and yelled at all the weyrlings to get their dragons away to a safer place. Smart thinking if it wasn't for the fact that most of them were already doing something anyway. He did move, however, when Ren asked him to and he continued to work away at the small hole he'd made. He couldn't see in it at all and, not really surprising, Ren didn't have any glows that would be of use to the pair. Too tired by the events of the night and the general apathy that threatened to leak over him, Jerishude just kept digging and widening the hole. Soon it was large enough that he could reach most of his upper torso in it.
"Ren, I've got a clearing. Give me a hand with this and we'll see if either of us are small enough to fit through. If needs be I'll go in and see where it leads. No one would worry if I was crushed, right?"
No one could tell, but in the darkness Jerishude was actually smiling. Not his usual cheeky grin of course, but a tired smile that basically said they had to try something on their part. The groups around them were already working so why shouldn't they put in any effort? Plus he was right. Only Ren would see him go in and she wouldn't do much to stop him.
"Sound okay?"

At least Yours has some sense. Emaleth purred, his small frame twisting into a circle to watch both A'tsu and His. He gave his clutchsib a pointed Look and wandered towards the table instead, nosed against it with interest. They could not go and dig, after all! Why not try to eat? Stop wailing, Jacth. It's unbecoming, even from a color such as yours. Show some dignity, sib.
K'yne, some distance away, glanced at A'tsu from the corner of his eyes. "I never said it would be safe, 'Tsu. I said I would be alright - there is a--" Yelling, panicked yelling from an overly large and horribly scared man K'yne recognized as the Whitesecond. He dropped the rock he'd been moving to the side and grabbed at A'tsu's arm, pulled at him as K'yne himself stood.
They'd orders to fall back and get away and in his mind, Emaleth was beginning to fret in his head over lack of food, that spoiled, self righteous little--
Shut up. He shot once more towards the little dragon and tightened his grip on A'tsu however briefly before his hand dropped. "People. To the healers."
As the Whitesecond wanted, ordered. K'yne jerked his head towards the persons in question and started off on that next chore. Emaleth, distracted by food and his clutchsibs anger, did not question the Whitesecond or His. Not yet.

Beksk was surprised and gratified when the gold shut up ... for the moment. He glanced over at the green, eyeing her with new respect. That was bold, he remarked casually, as though they were idly chatting instead of digging determinedly. Bekar's friend is down there too. He will be very upset if you don't find him.
The wher paused to lay his head against the stones, listening for strange sounds. I think I hear something, Bekar, he said doubtfully. I don't know who it is though.
Bekar was distracted by the arrival of Korsi with a pack of enthusiastic whers. "Dig carefully! If you fall down you'll crush the people below!" He yelled at the whers and their handlers. Not to mention the angry queen and her remaining eggs. He put his glowbasket aside (thank you, helpful candidates) and again moved to help X'nar pry the unconscious wingleader loose from the remaining rubble. Ugh. He remembered this woman well. Brawling with J'aro. Well, he wasn't about to toss her back. As soon as the woman was being seen to, he went back to digging at Ialluth's side, figuring that the green dragon's instincts for where their friends had fallen were probably better than a human's.

Narenne was relieved that Jerishude didn't put up a fuss and just let her help him. He wouldn't have been her choice of work companion. In fact, the last time they'd spoken he had been her assigned working companion and there had been few pleasantries exchanged between them. At least, few sincere ones. Ren had started it, now that she thought about it.
She pulled and pushed and shoved at rocks, occasionally bumping shoulders or elbows with the creepy young man and unable to forget who she was working alongside of. Thus whenever they did come into accidental contact, Ren tended to flinch, but she guessed in the dark he wouldn't notice. And even if he did, he was probably used to that reaction. For all she knew, he enjoyed it. He certainly seemed to enjoy his overall effect on people.
When he said he'd gotten a clearing, though, it was probably a good thing she was repulsed by him, or else she might've tried to stand right where he was to get a better look. In the dark. She shouldn't have dropped her basket, maybe. She also didn't know what to say in response to his self-pitying tack-on at the end of his declarative, and so she ignored it.
"Sounds okay," she agreed.
It amused her to think that being busty would probably mean she would not be the one going into the hole, unless it suddenly got much wider. And - shells - the eyeful people would get if she did, given the tailoring of her robe and the fact she wore nothing under it because of her activities prior to this debacle.
