Taking the brush, Miyuki watched as Elberon demonstrated to her how to brush a horse.
She nodded at his explanation, "I think I get it."
Walking up carefully to the horse she looked up at it before looking at its leg. It sounded pretty straight forward, so she began to brush. Firm strokes like Elberon, but more carefully, since she wasn't quite sure of what she was doing.
"How do you know when the sweat is all gone?"

"By looking at it," the groom replied with a smile as he continued to brush the horse's back and sides. "When it is shiny but dry, the sweat is at least mostly gone. Sometimes it takes a while - especially when the horse has been worked for a while, such as this one. Aethos-sola has been riding him almost all day, so he's quite sweaty."
He kept an eye on Miyuki. "A bit more quickly than that, it's got to be quick and smooth and firm."

"Oh... okay," Miyuki looked back to the leg she was working on and picked up the pace.
She wasn't use to this, so it probably took far more focus out of her than it would normally take out of a person to brush a horse. It was a cute scene though because she was trying so hard.

Earendil chuckled softly and leaned down to murmur in Lin's ear.
"Maybe when we want a bit of time to ourselves we could leave her with Elberon," he said quietly, grinning.
It seemed Miyuki was doing well with the horse.

Lin giggled, "Maybe, if she wants to, she might find someone else to tag along with."
It was the one thing Lin kind of felt bad about, and it was that she was always in a way control Miyuki's time. She hoped that maybe while they were in Haven, Miyuki would be given a chance to explore as she liked.

"Which I think we should encourage with all that we have," Earendil grinned. "It didn't do you any harm, after all."
In fact, if not for that, who knew if they would be together like they were?

"No... no it didn't," Lin replied, "And I feel bad that I'm always in control of what she's doing for the most part, and I always kind of ran wild as a child. Granted, as my dad liked to point out, I sort of educated myself."
She never did like the normal school system.

Earendil chuckled and squeezed her to him. "We could sneak off now if you want," he suggested with a sparkle in his eye.
Part of him wanted to - he wanted the two of them to be alone when he gave Lin her surprise. If they couldn't get time during the day, he would wait until Miyuki was in bed, though. If they could get her to sleep. She almost seemed more excited about the surprise than Lin herself - though he did recognize that Lin was simply trying her best not to excite Miyuki about it more.

She wasn't sure if it would be fair to Elberon to just leave him with Miyuki like that, and even a part of her didn't know how Miyuki would react if they left. Even though a part of her told herself that her daughter would be perfectly fine.
"I'm not sure how Elberon would take that," she admitted, "But it's tempting."

Earendil pondered that a moment. "We could always ask the two of them," he pointed out. "See if they would be okay with it. I'm sure Miyuki would be eager to learn about the horses, especially as we're going to be using them for travel when we go. And Elberon is Elberon, he would love the opportunity to ask her question after question."
He grinned, waiting for her response.

Lin knew she shouldn't but she had to laugh at that because she knew it was true. Elberon would ask Miyuki plenty of questions to keep the both of them busy.
"Let's then," she replied as she turned to where the two were still working, "Miyuki..."
The little girl's ears twitched at the sound of her name. Taking her eyes away from the leg she was working on, she looked up at her mommy.
"Yes mommy?"
"Would you like to stay here with Elberon for a while? If Elberon doesn't mind?"
They wanted to go now? Miyuki looked back at the leg she was working on, she rather be here, "Okay! Can I?"
She looked up at Elberon with the most pleading look she could muster.

Elberon laughed aloud at the look on Miyuki's face.
"But of course!" he beamed. "I would like nothing more! And when we're done with this horse, if you like you can help me with my chores - just feeding the other horses, nothing more. What do you say to that?"

"Okay!" Miyuki nodded eagerly.
She had never fed horses before, so to her it wasn't so much of a chore as a treat.
"Thank you," Lin replied, "We'll see you both in a few."

"Don't worry about Miyuki," Elberon grinned. "And if you're not back by dinner time, I'll bring her back to the house. Don't you worry about a thing."
Earendil chuckled. "I'm sure you'll both be fine," he grinned. "See you later."
He took Lin's hand and turned to lead her out of the stables.

Lin waved to the two as she was led back out. While she would never admit this to her father, sometimes letting Miyuki be on her was harder than she realized.
"Bye bye!" Miyuki waved happily, and once her parents were out of sight began to brush again.
