Hello everyone.

My name is Alice, I'm 29yrs old, I live in South of France, Europe.
I became interested in Buddhism when I was a teenager.
I was raised in both Christian and pagan tradition, but always felt attired by buddhism and japan zen. I've read books, and I've been to some Lama meeting; and those last 2 years i became very interested in Japanese Buddhism and Shintoism too.
I always thought that getting to know yourself better and try to be a better person was the hard part in life. I realize that this path suits me better than repent to a divinity for my problems and sins.
I plan to do a pilgrimage in Japan in 2008, in Buddhism temples. ^^

I wish I can meet people and friends in this guild , to share and talk about our beliefs and way to get better in life. smile

Hi there. My name is Jay, and I'm a Buddhist.

Now that the confession is out of the way...I was raised in a sort of...strange environment. My mom had run away from Catholic school to connect more with her father, an American native. My dad left his Episcopalian upbringing to study Druidism (more scientifically than as a religion). When my brother and I were each 12, our parents brought us to learn about many different world religions. They didn't know much about the Eastern religions, and these were the ones I felt most attracted to.

I eventually started attending services at a local Theravada temple, serving a mostly Sri Lankan community. Not really understanding the language well, I spent two years learning Zen before finally arriving at a Tendai (Mahayana) temple. I have been a devotee ever since, which makes about 5 years.

I guess there's other info, as well. My brother and his wife are Druid. All of this happened in the Los Angeles region, but now I go to college somewhere else. I'm mostly interested in learning more about...shall we say "Western" Buddhism; Buddhism that arose in places farther West and South than Japan and China.

Well, where to begin....
You guys can refer to me as JC if you want. I'm 17 1/2 yrs. old, and I live in the South, USA. I've been looking into Buddhism since I was about 13, never really understanding it until this year, my Junior year of High School, from my religion class.

I've grown up an Episcapalian Christian, but the whole "Jesus is God" thing (and much more) is just a big contradiction to me. While I'm more than likely going to convert to Vajrayana Buddhism, I don't believe that I'll ever turn my back on Christianity. I just have too many good friends who go to some of those churches....

Anyways, I plan to look at a Temple in my city soon (as far as I know, it's the only one), and hopefully I'll be able to have a lot of time to devote to it my Senior year.

Anything else can be asked....lol

Hallo, I'm 14 years old and I live in Germany. I first heard of buddhism around the age of 7 when my dad brought back buddha statues from his trip to Korea. I used to be a christian, but my parents didn't make me. I was just terrified of going to hell.
I started doing research on other religions, and buddhism appealed to me the most. I went through an atheist stage, but being an atheist wasn't making me happy.
I'm happy, sometimes clueless, optimistic, caring, lazy, emotional, and love making people laugh.

Hello,

I'm Eeva, a 20-year-old college student from Turku, Finland.

I became interested in Buddhism in highschool when my religions teacher called my views about wourld buddhist. I had written something about people's wants and greed being the source of suffering. It took me a while, from there, to start studying buddhism; I'm still doing it.

I still also retain some of the earth-centered, fennopagan beliefs I had before my discovery, but buddhism certainly looks like a path I'm going to keep following in future. I have a rather loose Evangelic Lutheran (protestant christianity dominant in Finland) upbrig, and I can't deny it's effect to my psyche and views of the world even if I disagree with some of their ways.

I'm a peaceful person, but not afraid of debate. I'm a happy person, but some things that I take seriously might make -me- serious. I love to converse with people about their thoughs, and yes, that means you. 3nodding

Hi, I'm Isthene. I'm 17, and I've been looking for a good start on learning about Buddhism for a loong time.

And now I'm here. And I must say that this is an extremely well organized, helpful Guild.

Yet even still. all this information is making my head Go E'sploady... emo

I think I just need to take it in smaller chunks.

Hi everyone,
My name is Wes and I'm 14 years old. I cannot call myself a true Buddhist, but there are no other labels that describe my way of life at the moment.
My story may not seem like the most exciting or touching one out there, and it isn't, really. But, I'll tell you all anyway!
I was born and raised a Christian. As I became older, however, I began to question my path. Then, I met someone who changed my life completely. For better or for worse, I still do not know. Upon meeting this person, I questioned the Christian faith more and more, and finally abandoned it. This was a shock that I still haven't quite gotten over. I have read several books by the Dalai Lama, and Buddhism has caught my attention. I try to incorperate a bit of Buddhist teachings into my everyday life, but I'm still looking for the path that is right for me.
So anyways, that's my story!

I've been a lurker in this guild for quite some time and decided it was high time for an introduction.

I'm Darian. Transgendered. Unitarian Universalist. From Ontario Canada.
It is my belief that one should try to experience a variety of spiritual teachings in order to get in touch with "God" - the lifeforce that I call Netjer, like the Egyptians did. I do not think that one philosophy or religion holds all the answers, yet in all there could be some form of truth. I suppose I could slap the label of Theist on my forehead ...but spiritual works well for me.

I was christened as a baby into Anglicanism - which I was never active in.
I was a weak Atheist for a short while.
I then took on a variety of religious beliefs from Taoism to Paganism.
I dropped all that and went on to LaVeyan Satanism.
I then found myself enraptured with the Kemetic gods (Egyptian paganism)
I travelled on and found myself accepting Christ as my saviour - although not in the traditional Christian way
I am now here, as a "Theist"
That is my journey so far.
A bit boring, but it's what I have.

I prefer to go by my username online so you can call me Kamelliah. I've been interested in Buddhism since high school. I am 19 now and in college. I was raised a Methodist Christian but when I entered middle school I started asking a lot of questions that weren't getting answered. By the time I entered high school I had become agnostic and soon started to develope my own beliefs. About a year ago I discovered that my beliefs were very much in line with those that fall under both Pagan and Buddhist religions. In addition, through my studies of both religions I adopted more ideas from both faiths and am now a "Buddha-Pagan" as my faith incorporates both Buddhist and Pagan ideas, beliefs, philosophies, etc. I have a boyfriend of 4 1/2 months and currently work in a used bookstore. I plan on majoring in liturature and then going on to a masters in creative writting with a minor in philosophy focusing on religious studies. By being in this guild I hope to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of Buddhism.

My name's Khlara and I'm currently in school studying to be a Librarian. I'll be 24 in October. I've been interested in Buddhism since High School and tried studying about the Zen path for several years. I was raised Catholic for 18 years, tried converting to Judaism and now I'm back to Buddhism, but wanting to learn about the other paths. I live in Northern California where there are several retreat centers as well as Temples, practice rooms, etc.

I'm starting from the beginning with my Buddhism learning though as I feel I need a refresher course. buddhanet.net and books from the library are helping with this.

Hi, My name is Leigh. I live in Michigan, USA.

I'm an 18 year old, second year university student and I've been interested in Buddhism for most of my life. My mother raised me with Buddhist ideals, and never really said anything until a few years ago after I started to become deeply interested in the religion.

I can't say much about myself, as there is not much to tell, but I love philosophy. I work at a movie theater as a film projectionist.

I am here to learn more about Buddhism to further my knowledge on the topic. Hopefully I can find a lot of interesting topics and threads here.

Name: Rob or Robert
Are you Buddhist: Yes; I lean toward Tibetan theory and practice.
Age: 26
Why you became a Buddhist: I moved from simple atheist Humanism to Buddhism after a mind-blowing religious experience that was, at least in part, due to treatment for depression as a college Junior. The thoughts and feelings I experienced seemed in line with the little I previously knew of Buddhist realization (I was more familiar with Taoism at the time), and my love of Buddhism grew rapidly thereafter due to its all-encompassing theory married to very useful, well-planned methodology (in addition to being in-tune with my previous thoughts and experiences in life).
