Saykiro blinked as the Werywoman paused. What... Oh. He looked down and saw that the Crimson's clutch was ready to make their appearances. He thought she would stop, but no it must continue as it should.

A crimson popped out of the smashed egg. He looked at her and figured she would head to the females, almost dismissing the young dragon, but his beastcraft training taught him differently. Every life is precious no matter how they are brought in. He watched as the young crimson moved into the boys. With a slight shrug of his shoulders, It would be what its meant to be.

Ofelia had been watching the Dancing Queen instead of whatever else she should have been watching, mostly because everyone else seemed to be watching, though the moment she heard the sounds of shells breaking eyes went straight back to the eggs - just in time to see a green come out from one of the shells. A green didn't involve a shovel, right? And the green looked healthy enough, right? It was all Impressive if that little one was from the clutch of that dead Crimson, and Ofelia sorta wished it well. There wasn't much else she could do, right?

That being said, the sound of shovel contacting with something hard. . .maybe her stomach drop and hurt. Her eyes drew wide as she watched the shell being cracked, the Weyrwoman having amazing aim and skill. All things considered she'd probably done this many times before so she knew what she was doing, but Ofelia hadn't really been prepared.

People had told her that the eggs of duds were cracked, to see if anything were truly inside. Images of rotting egg had invaded the tanner's mind, she wasn't going to lie, though she gave a thick sigh of relief when a crimson head poked out.

". . . THAT'S PRETTY DARN COOL."

There was a yell, and a point. Ofelia would have been standing too if her brother hadn't grabbed her about the waist and sat her down, the young woman's immense surprise at what came out very, very evident.

Moira did not straighten herself immediately, but rather let her upper body hang there, watching the events unfold upside down from between her own legs. Serlaith, in mimicking her rider, did the same. Only when Abigail yelled – Wait, she could still be yelled at? Shards! - did the two, in unison, straighten up and turn to face the eggs. Moira snapped to attention and ceased all forms of shaking, especially that of her booty. She was grinning at Abigail, the unmistakable grin of a girl riding high on life, matched by Serlaith's bright blue eyes.

“Sorry, Weyrwoman!”

Sorry, Serlaith said sheepishly to perhaps the only living creature on Pern that could make the haughty young gold do anything sheepishly. Brakiath was, after all, her mother. But our clutch is best! It was clear from Serlaith's tone, and the way she eyed the small secondary clutch, that she considered those adopted eggs as part of their own. And far better than any other clutch had ever been!

It was when more eggs began emerging that even the troublesome duo quieted down entirely, watching as first a green and then... could it be? Moira's heart leapt up into her chest, and she could feel excitement coming from Serlaith in waves.

“Come on, come on...” Moira whispered, urging the young dragonets to live.

Serlaith bugled her encouragment as best a newly hatched dragonet with a stomachful of meat could bugle.

(Edited because Im a dork and mixed up the clutches!)

What. Was. This. Nonsense? No, not the nonsense over there that Moira was perpetuating (S'raid was used to that sort of nonsense by now, and largely overlooking it). No. No, this nonsense was a female, clutching dragon potentially Impressing to a male Candidate! "... That is completely unnatural," he said with faint disapproval, though it was a slightly confused disapproval. This kind of think simply did not happen! At least the Crimsonrider who had died had been female. That Crimson down there surely did not want a boy. She was just fooling herself. She ... seemed to want a boy.

I told you they were unnatural, Galvanth said unhappily, though he seemed somewhat mollified by the fact that that horrid shovel had not actually damaged the egg. He gave his Wingmate a look of dissatisfaction, not quite understand why Xalth felt the need to nudge at him like that. He was not acting out of turn! He never acted out of turn anyway. He rumbled at Xalth, staring the Blue down.

Then, his attention returned to the Sands, and to the little Queen. She is very spirited, S'raid. This is a good quality in a Queen. As though S'raid didn't know. Feeling particularly grumpy, he stared down into the new weyrling's eyes... or tried to. It was awfully hard to manage when she was doing a booty dance and leading her Gold into doing much the same. Ah, Moira. The glare lasted only so long, however, because the Weyrwoman had reprimanded her for all to see. Oh yes, that was indeed a smirk that the Bronzerider wore proudly. Chew on that, his gaze informed her.

Oh! The first of the Crimson's clutch had hatched! At least, Malina thought that it was... the first. She was so excited for the little Green, and yet... so sad for her. That poor baby would never know her mother. Well, if Mali had anything to say about it, she would have a rider who loved her. Somewhere among their ranks was surely someone who would be a good match for her. Right? There wouldn't be another tragedy like the first. At least, that was her hope. She bit her lip, and watched with soulful eyes, twirling a finger in her wild locks. She was getting a little anxious, as worried as she was for the remaining babies. Would the Crimson find her rider soon? Atypicals had a harder time moving about when they were little, and ... and surely she just needed a bit of assistance.

As the green wandered around the girls the crimson continued to toddle towards the boys but it was clear from her slowing steps that her stamina was fast running out. Still, the tilt to her head and the huff of determination marked her for a fighter. This one would not give up.

So when she headed straight to one boy in particular and collapsed at Saekagi's feet, mewling, she looked deep into his eyes and offered a draconic grin.

Saekagimine, Your Luvith found you. I am tired and hungry, feed me

It was nervewracking even to Akaya to see the crimson's endurance falter, but she found the boy she was looking for--that'd be interesting, a male crimsonrider. Though she hoped he fancied boys, being as it was probably more likely his dragon would be caught by browns--maybe blues? She knew the Weyrs thought a bit differently about how it was when it was for your dragon, but still...

She shook her head. No sense speculating on the poor boy, he'd Impressed and that was that! The green still circled the girls' line, and the Weyrwoman would no doubt start swinging that shovel around again soon.

Saykiro was excited that the little crimson found hers fast. He looked at the new rider and knew that these dragons knew who would be best for them.

Oh, thank... Thank Everything that the Crimson had found Hers. Jala sighed, trying to get a good look at the poor little Hatchling. She was a comely thing, wasn't she? Such a lovely shade. Jala sighed, smiling at both Dragon and New Rider, looking over towards the girls. Another green for their side!

" . . did that girl dragon jus' impress ta a guy? Aren't Crimsons supposed ta only look ta girls or somethin'? From what I 'ear from the others in the tannery an' all male riders are kinda rare an' what have ya. I guess this is a good thing?"

Once again Ofelia was probably talking to herself since her brother was making notes or talking to the person next to him, his social skills far better than her own. A deep frown pursed over her lips and her brow flattened itself with a miniature sulk, the fact that her questions were going unanswered the main cause.

It wasn't like Ofelia to normally sulk like this, but she was hot and tired and things needed to move faster. There was a green out on the sands now, stuff needed done!

"I'd rather be swimmin' right now then sittin' 'ere waitin' more. . an' I dunno how ta swim even."

. . . PINCH.

Liyar watched the crimson impress to a boy. Yep. A boy. What else? Nothing seemed to fit todays' hatching. In fact, nothing seemed to be...normal, about it. She wondered why that was, as she sat back on her heels, watching the green peruse her ranks. Which girl would be lucky enough to take home this green?

"Hello, Farellen~" Gabriel greeted chipperly as she and Lifth reached the feeding tables. As she reached for the first piece of meat, she said, "Congrats to you both!" The golden queen and the brown dragonets left on the Sands had been all but forgotten by her. "This is Lifth by the way. Lifth, this is Farellen and... um, sorry, I'm afraid I don't know her name yet."

Hello, he greeted his clutchmate unenthusiastically before turning his gaze right back onto His and the meat. Mine, do hurry. I wish to eat quickly so that we may wash.

"Slow yourself down a little. We don't want you to choke or get indigestion," she remarked as he gobbled down the first hunk of meat. "Actually, do dragons get indigestion from eating too quickly?"

I suppose we shall find out.

The pair's attention was soon drawn back to the Sands by a green dragon keening and running about in a panic. Oh no, Gabriel thought to herself at the sight, face blanching. Oh no, oh no, don't do it! But there was nothing that could be done. The female had not found Hers and instead went Between.

Lifth let out a mourning keen along with the rest of the dragons around. What a terrible shame that she could not find Hers. I am glad not to be in her place. It was a terrible thought to not be able to find your partner, and the blue knew full well he'd have ended up the same without His.

Yes, I am glad you are not in her place as well, Gabriel agreed silently, feeding him another piece of meat while patting his head comfortingly.

Several more dragons hatched and Impressed, and the teen let out a whoop of glee when Salin joined the ranks with a brown. "See? Told ya it was our Turn," she remarked to Farellen with a grin, elbowing him playfully in the rib.

Alright, I am full. We can wash now.

Liar. Your eyes are still red.

... Fine.

~~~~~
Fortunately there were no other dragons that had gone Between thus far in the rest of the Hatching, and no dud eggs either. She did have to laugh though when Mr. Not-Spy impressed a Crimson. "Awesome! He should have a lot of fun with her," she remarked to no one in particular. The teen blinked though when her dragon suddenly was up on his hind legs once more, forepaws on her chest and staring her straight in the eyes.
...
He didn't have to say it again. She knew what he wanted. "Alright, alright. Sheesh. And they call me impatient," she said with a small smirk, patting her dragon and then leading him off so that they can get cleaned up. Don't you even want to see your siblings hatch?
We will be seeing them the rest of our lives. It can wait.
"A shovel," R'vik announced quietly to nobody in particular. "They just... smack the egg with a shovel." Sure, the crimson that hatched -- no, slid out from the egg seemed fine. But weren't they female? He watched as the crimson made her way to the boys, wondering if the shovel addled her senses.
He ignored the Goldrider and Serlaith's victory dances, watching the crimson intently. They didn't seem to be different than the other dragons aside from their color. Were the differences between dragons and Atypes all a matter of pride? No, he decided, watching the Crimson stumble her way toward Hers. It was hard to watch. A candidate to become a Runner wouldn't be accepted if they ran slowly. They would be turned away.
Xalth lowered his head submissively as Galvanth stared him down, wishing there was enough room on the perch to move away from him. He turned his gaze not towards the newly hatched Crimson on the sands, but to where His was watching, making sure to keep his head notably lower than Galvanth's. But a runner can run as slow as they wish when they run, Xalth told His, sending a picture of R'vik himself running with a message. We have no chance to be slow when we wish -- we are being watched. Can we leave, Mine? I do not like to be watched.
Not yet, Xalth, shhh, R'vik replied, trying to soothe the embarrassed blue. We have to continue to watch. I'll oil you down as soon as the Hatching is over, promise. The blue dragon huffed a sigh. Or maybe swimming if we can...? The blue dragon lifted his head a bit at that. The warm waters of Trine were something the blue dragon was beginning to enjoy. Now that was something worth waiting for!
F'ren was smiling broadly when Gabriel stepped up to the feeding bowls, he was still passing chunks of meat to Toulonth, who seemed to just inhale them Chew Toulonth love. He was about to go and give Gabriel a hug of congratulations when the little Green panicked and ran towards her mother, his whole body froze as he watched the small creature cry and go Between "NO" he cried, and almost fell, that is if Toulonth hadn't leaned against him at that moment.
Toulonth sensed F'ren's distress immediately and leaned up against him as her clutchmate went between her eye whirling her own distress at concern for F'ren Mine, it couldn't be helped hers was not here, and a dragon can't survive without Theirs, look at the new one finding Theirs she said to him, nuding him towards where the next Dragonet was Impressing everything will be alright, we shall fly strong soon she said with complete conviction
She did want a boy, and her stubborn strength was amazing, and Saekagi was no less shocked than any of the others, and then he lept to his to wrap his arms around her. He'd carry her to the buckets if he needed to, though the sands were far too hot to make the gesture comfortable.
"You're the most amazing thing..." He noted with awe, though the efforts to get a tired hatchling up to take her to food were less than dignified looking. Up close was also another amazing surprise, offering glimpses of the dramatic patterns on the under side of her wings, like the surprising flash of color her broken shell had revealed. "Of course I'll feed you."
He had to agree with Ophelia on this one. Luveth was indeed 'Pretty darn cool'.
Good. I'm very tired and very hungry. But I'm glad to have found you.
-------
B'tar this time couldn't help it this time, it was morbid curiosity, and as the little crimson. (She was so stubborn for such a frail thing, he couldn't help but be a bit impressed.)
Patting Primath's neck again, he turned and craned to look for S'raid. The man had enough attitude about greens, even capable, ferocious Primath (Although granted Primath tended to provoke the man.) He couldn't help but want to see the mental crash play out on the bronzeriders face when he saw that the female, clutch capable red had impressed a boy. Clearly impressed too, since the two were making their way off the sands carefully.
He was pretty sure it was a boy, or else the flattest girl that Pern had ever seen. Still. S'raids reaction would be one for the records.
It's a boy. And You provoke him too. Primath noted, smugly, eyes whirling with fascination. Of course something about him just begs for it, doesn't it?
Maybe so...B'tar thought back. But we really should resist temptation once in a while. I'd hate to spend the rest of our time together running his cracked errands.
