Lee giggled a bit, shrugging. "I dunno if he'll be able to eat, you might have knocked all his teeth out." Looking up at him seriously, she nodded. "You okay with sleeping alone tonight?"
"I suppose, somewhat, I do. But I like Rory. He's good for her and he makes her happy. Happier than she ever was when she lived here. And you've given me no reason to believe that you're better, aside from financial issues. But with parents like us, she'll be fine. I'm not going to let her struggle if they're ever put into that situation." He was confident Jeremy would never be able to get Lee's attention, even if he changed his behavior, so he wasn't too concerned with giving the boy advice. Perhaps this would keep the two boys from knocking each other's teeth out from now on. "If you still have any hopes of beating Rory, try being kind. To both of them. Lee will respect that much more, and might actually consider you as a possible suitor."

"Nae," Rory answered honestly, "but I will since your da asked me t'." He moved, using the wall to help himself up, then held a hand down to help Lee stand as well. "Maybe w' could gae fae a walk or somethin' till he leaves."
Jeremy nodded, considering this. "Very well, then. I think I'll go wash up and see to the injuries." He headed for the nearest bathroom.

Lee took Rory's hand, pulling herself up, glad to see he was in a bit of a better mood. "After what happened, he might be willing to reconsider. If not... Well, I'm not exactly banned from your room." Lee didn't bother letting go of Rory's hand, nodding at his suggestion. "Dunno how long he plans to stay here, though." She wasn't much for walks, and didn't want to be wandering aimlessly if the kid would be sticking around longer than anticipated.
A servant, small first aid kit in hand, followed closely behind Jeremy, ready to patch him up in any way she could, having waited until the two were finished to even think about touching the boy. Mr. Katan looked behind him, frowning a bit as he saw his wife. "Go check on dinner, alright?" As she snuck back into the kitchen, seeming to avoid being a part of what she'd created, the man headed upstairs, looking for the two kids that had disappeared on the second floor.

"What d'you suggest w' do then, eh?" Rory asked softly. "I donnae want t' be around someone like tha' too much. People like tha' gi' off a sort o' energy an' it makes it kinda hard t' keep a handle on my particular . . . gift. I donnae want your parents t' know about th' deadspeak."

Lee shook her head. "No, a walk would be fine. We just might run into him again when we get back, though." She bit her lip, shrugging.
Mr. Katan walked toward the couple, accidentally overhearing their conversation. What was this deadspeak both Mr. McCormick and Rory had mentioned? Walking up to them, he cleared his throat lightly. "I hope I'm not interrupting..."

Rory looked down. "Nae, sir. Not interruptin' anythin'. Lee an' me were thinkin' on takin' a walk till Jeremy leaves so w' won't get upset wi' each other."

Mr. Katan looked the boy over briefly, to see if he was in a better condition than before. "Jeremy's agreed to tone down his behavior and act like a civilized young man, but... I can understand if you'd like to keep your distance from him. It seems he plans to stay for dinner still, though. Will you not be eating with us?" He looked concerned, and had been looking forward to having a meal with his daughter again.
Lee fidgeted, letting Rory decide what to do, not about to force him to attend dinner with Jeremy.

Rory was quiet a long moment, weighing the options in his head. Finally, he sighed and nodded. "I'll eat wi' you." He looked up at the man. "I wonnae ruin th' nice dinner you had planned."

Lee looked up at Rory, surprise in her voice as she asked, "Are you sure?" She squeezed his hand tighter, stepping closer and continued in a hushed voice. "You don't have to, you wouldn't be ruining anything. If you're hungry, someone can bring your food to your room for you." The last thing she wanted was for Rory to feel obligated to eat at the same table as Jeremy.

Rory shook his head. "I ain't gonna hide like you're ashamed o' me. Your parents want us t' eat wi' them, an' so w' will." He knew if he didn't go to dinner, Lee wouldn't either and he couldn't do that to her parents since they wanted to spend time with her.

Lee nodded, though couldn't hide her disappointment. She didn't want him to be forcing himself, and she hoped dinner would go smoothly. Brushing his hair out of his face, Lee looked down at her clothes, figuring she should dress up a bit more. "I'm gonna go change. I'll meet you down there. You can wash your face up a bit if you want." That's what her mother had told her to do after crying, so she thought she should offer the same thing.
Mr. Katan nodded to Rory, thankful he'd agreed to join everyone. Turning to leave and check on dinner, he wasn't sure when he'd be able to bring up the deadspeak, but figured this wasn't a good time.

Rory looked down at his own clothes, figuring he should wear something nicer to dinner, too, but didn't really have anything. He looked after Mr. Katan and hurried after the man. "Wait, sir. Um . . . w' donnae usually dress up fae dinner back home an' I really donnae hae much clothes tha' would be nice enough. Can . . . can I borrow a shirt fae dinner?"

Blinking and looking down at Rory's shirt, Mr. Katan shrugged. "What you have on is fine, but sure, if you'd like." He worried that his shirts might be a bit big on the boy, considering he was no where near as fit as Rory, but nodded and headed for his bedroom.

Rory followed after, tugging a bit at the hem of his t-shirt. "I should ask Lee t' show me where t' buy clothes so I can get somethin' a bit more, um, proper while I'm stayin' here, I guess." He hovered near the bedroom door, not exactly wanting to intrude on Mr. Katan's private quarters. He glanced around the room from where he stood. "Does your wife not stay wi' you?"

Mr. Katan gestured the boy inside, not having anything to be ashamed of. His room was kept in wonderful condition by the servants, after all. A bit surprised by Rory's question, he sighed, smiling awkwardly back as he headed for his closet. "Not anymore, no." It had been a while since that; years, actually. "It's not unusual to find married couples drift apart over the years."
Opening up the closet doors, he stepped back, letting Rory pick what he found most appropriate. The vast majority was filled with ties and suits, with a small section reserved for nice collared shirts of many colors, though most white or black.
