Raine ran in place quietly, his bare feet clipping against the stone, while he slapped himself in the face a bit and watched Lavi trying to listen closely. "Whatever one calls the various periods of the medieval era, certain trends are clear. The years from 500 to 1000 were a time of political decentralization and overall back-wardness. From 1000 to 13000, Europe enjoyed a general revival. Nations became better defined, the economy grew healthier, and the level of technological and cultural knowledge improved. The concept of Europe as a single civilization joined by a common cultural heritage and the Christian religion took greater shape during these years. "

Raine slapped himself, as his face beamed a bright pink. It was so odd, nothing like any of the training he had done that day, he looked to Tsuyosa once more who was happily involved in Lavi's lecture. The small boy sighed to himself, stopped for a bit of a break and than starting to run in place once more. " The period between 1300 and 1500 was a complex one, marked by crisis and advancement." Raine too found himself spun in the words history was so interesting when Lavi talked about it.

"On one hand, Europe was struck by social unrest, constant warfare, and, in the form of the so-called Black Death, one of the worst epidemics in world history. On the other hand, the Renaissance began, ushering in a period of artistic and intellectual achievement. The Renaissance is one of my very favorite periods in time. The art was so amazing, it just making you want to paint something. I suck at painting though, have you ever tried it?" Raine stopped for a second feeling a bit winded.
"Nope, never been much of an artist myself." He said thinking back, he only ever did some doodles when he was bored.

"Okay well on with Feudalism and the Manor system, the origins of feudalism. In the aftermath of Rome's fall, Europe became politically decentralized. No single ruler was strong enough to provide Europe with central authority, and monarchs typically did not have the power, money, or military strength to govern their lands effectively. The solution was the system of feudalism, in which lords and monarchs (lieges) awarded (infeudated) land to loyal followers (vassals). In exchange, the vassals guarantees that their parcels of land (fiefs) would be governed, that law and justice would be dispensed, that crops would be grown, and that the land itself would be protected. Feudal retainers often subdivided (subinfeudated) their fiefs into smaller units, granting them to people they could rely on. Feudalism remained at the heart of medieval European politics for centuries."

"Feudal nobility, the Manor System, and Serfdom. The retainers to whom monarchs gave large land grants developed into Europe's noble class. Structurally, the feudal nobility resembled a pyramid. At the top was the monarch. Below him were powerful nobles, and below them were lesser nobles. All members of the feudal nobility were theoretically tied to the monarch by bonds of loyalty and landownership, and they were supposed to help provide political leadership." Each looked at each other thinking of hos useless this was, Kage's were certainly a much better form of government.

Raine slapped himself once more, his cheek turning pink. He sighed and glanced back at Tsuyosa before picking up his feet again. Nothing about this stupid training was working. He didn't feel anything happening. "The feudal nobility also served a military function. One of feadalis's goals was to provide an army of foot soldiers and an elit force f armored cavalry formed by the nobles themselves. Horses and weapons costly and the training so specialized that only members of the pper classes could afford to become knights. According to the code of chivarly, the knight was to be a virtuous, Christian warrior who served his lord loyally, treated the lower classes with justice, and acted gentlemanly toward women. Songs and legends, such as those of King Arthur's round table, provided examples of how real-life knights were supposed to conduct themselves." The three boys liked the thoughts of knights. It seemed that they were the very knights of their own vassal. The defenders of their way of life. Raine ran a bit faster in place with this thought. Tsuyosa took a deep breath. Lavi rolled his gaze up to the ceiling. "Chivarly did restrain the knight's most violent behavior, but in actuality, the code was often broken, and it tended to be more myth than reality." At this all three of them felt a bit odd, comparing themselves to knights now. Knowing they weren't as shiny as they had just thought them to be.

Raine slapped himself in the face once more trying to pay attention. This training wasn't doing anything and he was getting more frustrated every minute. Raine couldn't figure out if this was a real training or just Tsuyosa making fun of him, and trying to get him to do something stupid. He breathed heavily and slapped himself again, his cheek burned pink. What a stupid excuse for a technique. The boy glared angrily as he listen to Lavi go on.

Raine slapped himself one last time and his senses exploded. The boy stopped and looked oddly around him quickly, breathing shot quick breaths. While his eyes whipped around his face. He seemed aware of the space around him, his face burned with the air touching his skin. As he stopped, Tsuyosa looked to him and smiled. "Finally got it huh? I told you I wasn't joking." He watched Raine's reaction a bit and thought it was a bit funny. He didn't show this though and just watched blankly from behind his brown expressionless eyes.

Raine looked up at the man, realizing that he really wasn't joking. Finally after such a long time. At least 30 minutes. Probably more, he hadn't really been concentrating though and actually feeling something happen felt good and motivating. At least he knew now that he wasn't supposed to be looking like a fool. Lavi smiled, and gave him a thumbs up. Raine didn't show it but he really liked the thought and started running in place once more, breathing quickly and deeply, filling his cells with energy. The boy slapped himself once more, alternating between hands and cheeks. His face was already glowing brightly red, and he was sure feeling it.

Raine felt newly motivated realizing that this was an actual jutsu and that it could help him in battle. He thought about fighting that Uchiha the other day in the rain. If he had this jutsu maybe, when the guys eyes went all red and he got real fast and what not, he could have been more aware and been able to dodge. Than he wouldn't have gotten knock-out. As his thoughts ran back to Oto. Raine felt such a deep longing that he had never known. More than anything he wanted to return home, with his mom who was probably worrying about him. And Raito too, even if he was a big weirdo when it came to his mom. Raito and mom...

Lavi had sort of lost interest in his story telling, which made Tsuyosa sad, but Raine really wasn't paying any attention anyway. He just ran in place slapping himself, the others watched him, which made the boy feel odd and comfortable. Had his face not already been slapped into color he would have blushed in front of the other boys. And he was thankful for this, slapping himself even harder. He felt his face tingle and knew he had completed the jutsu once more. The world around him seemed slow as he whipped around completely aware of everything around him. Lavi picked up a small stone and threw it at Raien just to tease, but in his heightened state he easily caught, and flung it back at the older boy. Hitting him in the face. Lavi hadn't expected this and broke out laughing. Tsuyosa smiled to himself still leaning up against the weapon rack, working his neck around and yawning. It was getting much later, noon at least. They's have to stop for lunch in a bit.

The boys sat in silence for a while as Raine worked. Lavi and Tsuyosa sat, very bored. Watching Raine wasn't any fun at all. Tsuyosa even started to tap out a rhythm on the weapon rack. Raine couldn't hear much more than the air popping away from his incoming hand, near his ear, so he didn't notice. The whole room was empty accept for these three, sitting in the corner. Lavi looked over to Tsuyosa who had set his grough chin in his hand, and was starring off into the distance. Most likely thinking about how to torture the boy next.

The training was going slowly, and Raine had only got the jutsu twice now. His face was aching, and he was tired from all the training he had done that day. His legs sore from all those suicides. The boy breathed heavily, his throat and tongue dry from constant exposure to the air. There was barely any progress at all. Which Tsuyosa noticed. It shouldn't be taking this long, Raine would probably have to work a lot harder at this than usual. Which was odd it was a very easy thing to do. Not very complex or anything. He hadn't really found a technique for it using it over the years. Just slap yourself and vuala!.

Raine hit himself again, frustration growing inside him. This wasn't working at all. He hit himself harder, and gave a glare to Tsuyosa who was now watching him intently. "Tsuyosa-sensei, this isn't working!" Raine felt tired and weak, but wanted to punch something more than anything. He wanted to crack into something that would break with hit first, but there was only air. Only his face. He hit himself harder, and left large red marks.
The master sighed, he was right, it wasn't working. And he could only imagine what that must feel like, not being able to do something even though it seemed so simple. By a Step went much better than this. It couldn't be helped though, it seemed that Raine just wasn't very lucky. He stepped over and grabbed the boys hand, who looked up surprised, his cheeks glowing red. Lavi just watched in silence. The man took the little boys hand, and led him out of the sparring room into the kitchen. Setting him on a chair, and throwing him a wet towel. "Use this for your face." he grabbed a few apples, and threw one to Raine, who caught it. Laying his body done on the table and closing his eyes, grateful for a break. It had been nearly an hour since they had started this go-damn traiing. And it just wasn't working, but he had already done so much. It didn't make sense to just quit now. He took a large bite of the apple and ate it thankfully, starving since breakfast. Lavi walked in and grabbed his own apple, still quiet.

Full the boys decided to get back to work Lavi started talking as they walked together." The feudal system involved more than the ruling class. The vast majority of people in medieval Europe were peasants. The basic unit of feudal leadership was the manor, which typically included the lord's residence (an estate or castle) and the peasants' village. Surrounding the residence and village were fields for farming, as well as woodland where food would be gathered and animals hunted (generally a privilege reserved for the lord)." They entered the great room, and Raine once more starting hitting himself. Nothing happened and he stopped for a few seconds to sigh. This was worthless.
