Serenity looked thoughtful for a moment, but then she shook her head. "Not that I can think of," she admitted. "Ian's been talking about you all week, so she knows about you and Prince already ... and the way my head's been in the clouds, I don't know, she might have suspected something, even though I only saw her once or twice this week ..."

Honestly she had no idea what to expect - after all, she had never brought home a boyfriend - let alone a fiance - before.

He nods slowly, his hand gently squeezing hers as they waited for Haradhel to bring back the eggs. "Mmm. I see." He laughs softly. "Then I guess it's only fair for me to assume the worst. At least then I should be prepared." He looked playful and teasing as he looked around. "So where do they keep the armor around here..?"

Serenity blinked at Gaunt for a moment. "Armour?" she repeated tilting her head slightly. Then she giggled, suddenly understanding what he meant, and pushed his shoulder playfully. "Silly. It won't be that bad. At least I'm not going to do what my oldest brother did - he disappeared for a week and came back with four kids. Mama and Papa were surprised then. But they didn't get angry."

Ian was just in the process of waking up at that moment. He had heard garbled voices in his sleep, though he hadn't had any idea what they had said ... but they had woken him up.

He stretched and yawned, then rolled out of the bed and landed clumsily on his feet on the floor next to it. Rubbing his eyes, he didn't pay attention to where he was going, but walked slowly out of the room and towards the stairs.

Both Prince and Gaunt were completely unaware that Ian was getting up. Gaunt was too busy having a conversation with Serenity, and Prince was focusing on his breakfast and trying to block out all the lovey-dovey stuff going on at the other side of the table.

Gaunt blinks and makes a slow, low whistle as Serenity ercalled wat happened with her brother. He shakes his head and he grunts softly. "Return with four kids in two weeks, huh? I guess that's another thing where Seconds are different than humans like myself, huh? That woudln't be possible with a human unless it's been going on behind everyone's backs for quite some time. But as a Second, he just needed someone to make a vase with, right? And someone to bless it too?"

Serenity nodded, and suddenly her face fell. "That reminds me," she murmured hesitantly. "There's ... something you should-"

She was interrupted when Haradhel returned suddenly with the plates of eggs, prepared as requested, and passed them to Gaunt and Prince respectively.

"Anything else you would like?" she asked everyone, her eyes warm and inviting. "There's lots more where it came from ..."

Ian came down the stairs slowly, one slow step at a time, and when he reached the bottom he wandered over to the dining room, his eyes still mostly closed with sleep. His stomach growled as he entered the room, and he yawned and padded towards the table where his Mom and the others were sitting.

Gaunt nodded and mutters softly against Serenity's ear. "I know, you don't reproduce like humans." He then smiles softly as he gets up, speaking another word of thanks to Haradhel before he filled up a bowl of porriage for Ian once he took his place at the table. "Other than Ian.. I do believe we're fine." He smiles warmly at her.

Prince blinks when Ian takes his place next to him and he smiles warmly. "Good morning, Ian. Did you sleep well?"

Serenity was a little surprised that Gaunt already knew - but then, he had a Second of his own, perhaps the goddesses had told him when they had blessed him. Still, it made her sad ... he was a real human, and they would not be able to get vases the way Second couples did ... not one that was a combination of him and her. Adopt, yes, but ... it wouldn't be the same.

And for the first time in her life, she found herself wishing that she were human.

Ian rubbed his eyes and yawned again, coming to a stop just beside Prince and then looking up at him sleepily, eyes still almost all the way closed, obviously dead to the world despite his walking around and not walking into anything.

"Hngng," he mumbled incomprehensibly. He rubbed his eyes again and held his hands up to Prince to be picked up.

Haradhel chuckled softly at Ian and scooped a bit of the porridge into the bowl that had been set out for him. "Maybe he'll wake up a bit once he's had something to eat," she grinned. "I know some people who used to be like that."

Gaunt just smiles at Serenity. It was more like intuition than anything else. He knew how Seconds were made, and it wasn't through an act between the two 'mating' pairs. But he loved her for her, not because she could bear children for him. That was the reason why he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life.

Prince smiles at Ian and helps him into the seat next to himself. "Heh. Well, I hope you wake up soon Ian. We're going to get your bow today." He smiles at the boy, before he takes a forkful of the cheesy eggs and gets a mouthful. "Mmmm!"

Finally, Serenity smiled back, a slow, shy smile, her cheeks a faint shade of red. Even without words, he could make her feel better ... though she still wished her race weren't sterile.

At long last, she broke away from his all-too-entrancing gaze and stood up, leaning over the table to help Ian up onto it. "Easy does it," she murmured softly. "Come on, have something to eat ..."

Ian seemed almost as if he were in a bit of a trance as he knelt next to the bowl of food that was meant for him, and he stuck one finger into it and brought it slowly to his mouth and licked it off. He took several seconds to swallow just that one lick, then reached in again for a second fingerful. After several minutes of this slow eating, his eyes began to clear, and he blinked slowly and looked around at everyone.

"Mornin'," he mumbled half-smiling at Prince.

Gaunt chuckles and Prince breaks into smile once Ian seems to miraculously turn around once he had some food in his stomach. They both say their mornings to Ian - though Prince was personally surprised that mentioning something good that was about to happen didn't get him trucking sooner. Gaunt smiles softly and he chuckles. "Well, there goes relaxing until Ian gets up."

Serenity giggled softly as she nestled in next to Gaunt once more. "He's always like this," she smiled at him. "Probably a remnant of when he nearly starved to death ... any time his body is low on food or energy, he gets completely zoned out. It's amazing, but it's also the time when he has his fewest accidents, even though he's not looking where he's going."

Ian continued to eat, his eyes growing brighter with each bite, and when the bowl was half empty, he sat down again and burped quietly, smiling warmly.

"Hey are we gonna go to Ulrich right away to get my bow?" he asked eagerly, back to his usual self.

Gaunt smiles softly, breaking the yolk of his eggs and dipping his portion of bread in it, eating the bite. "Mmmm. I see." He chuckles softly. "It's amazing, actually. That someone so tired and zoned out becomes so careful that he stops having accidents. I'd expect it to be completely the other way around. I know when I'm really tired, I turn into a klutz." He laughs quietly.

Prince nods and smiles brightly at Ian. "Yeah! We're going to be going kinda soon, too! I know Gaunt and Serenity want to have everything done and be going back to the Winters' grounds by noon here." He smiles softly at the boy. "I'm really envious. You get to have a bow. I know Ulrich said he'd make some gift for me.. but.. it's not a bow."

Serenity giggled softly. "That's how most people would be," she smiled, leaning back and watching Gaunt eat, since she had already finished. "Though I'm not entirely sure it's because he's more careful than other times ... it's like his body takes over for him, because his brain isn't quite functioning yet."

Ian grinned back at Prince. "Well, whatever you get, I bet it'll be just as great," he nodded wisely. "Mom says Ulrich makes really neat stuff. He made all kinds of toys for his grandkids."

He nods slowly and he smiles softly. "Mmm. I see. That really is amazing though. Its like his body parts are able to talk directly to eachother without the brain being in the way when the brain isn't functioning." He chuckles softly and he softly slips his arm around the back of her waist as he finishes his breakfast, his free hand sipping from his tea.

Prince nods and he smiles at Ian. "Mmmn. I see. I wonder what he made for me! I can't wait to see!" Of course, when it came to toys, he might not have much of a use for them for long, since he grew from a Surprise to a Child so quickly.

Haradhel had disappeared into the kitchen again, but now she returned, finally sitting down with the others.

"So now you're heading to the valley?" she asked them warmly. "What are your plans from there?"

Serenity took it upon herself to explain. "Ian will need a few lessons with his bow before we go back, so just relax while Ulrich teaches him, I guess," she smiled. "Though personally I would be happy to take a swim or something ... the weather is so beautiful here, but back home it's still pretty chilly."
