He thrust his arm out in the direction of the demon, four glowing orbs shooting off at it. The demon gracefully dodged around two of them, yet the other two struck it directly, a loud clanging sound resounding with each successful hit. Aizel looked bemused at the creature; just what the hell was it that he was fighting?
It charged towards him again, and struck him heavily in the face. Aizel cried out in pain, and staggered back, feeling his lip split.
Given where I am, getting only a split lip is an improvement, he told himself, tensing as he waited for the creature to step too close again. He listened to the crackling sound of flames; saw in the corner of his eye a few embers leap off his arm. Everything else seemed eerily silent as he and the demon stared each other down.

When it still made no move on him, Aizel ran at it, striking it full in the face with his fiery arm. It grabbed his limb, seemingly undamaged by touching the flames, and twisted it behind his back as far as it would go. Aizel let out a half enraged, half pained roar, and hurled his head back, his cranium striking the demon’s own.
Its own arm started to heat up, glowing red from the flames, and when it released Aizel, it pressed its arm onto his back, scalding him. Another incensed roar echoed around the vast room, as Aizel pulled himself free.
Turning on his heels, he faced the creature, his expression contorted in hatred, and snatched a hold of its burning arm in both of his own hands. He ignored the burning pain in his natural hand, and gave an almighty tug, wrenching the demon’s arm straight off. A few electrical sparks flew dangerously out of its shoulder, wires peeking through. Aizel peered dumbfounded down at the arm that he was still clasping, seeing the same wires and sparks rather close to his skin.

‘Well, I wasn’t expecting him to damage it quite that easily,’ Marcus mused, jabbing at a few buttons and causing the demon to retreat.
‘Like I said, Kasuka is pretty handy when he’s in a tight spot,’ Midian reiterated.
‘Evidently. The b*****d, that’s one of my favourite creations,’ Marcus grumbled.
‘Oh give over, it was going to have to take some damage at some point!’ Midian laughed, ‘I’m just surprised that it was Kasuka who finally made a dent in it.’
‘He made more than just a bloody dent.’

Aizel chased after the demon as it tried to retreat, and leapt at it, bowling it right over, and pinned it to the arena floor on its stomach. He punched the back of its head, the flames around his arm growing hotter, more pronounced. The demon’s metal skull finally started to dent as he repeatedly pounded at it, beating it with all the strength he was able to muster.
The demon too gained an extra burst of strength, and hurled Aizel off it, before getting back onto its feet. It wobbled unsteadily, and stepped away from the whirlpool that had just formed, and rather too close for comfort, and up in the observation booth, the two workers noticed that for the briefest of moments, Aizel’s jet black skin seemed to fluoresce blue…

It snatched a tight hold of the boy’s prosthetic arm, and swung him around, hurling him down to the ground, and kicked him closer to his own whirlpool, which, in spite of his distraction, had not yet sealed itself off.
‘Shi-!’ Aizel began, sitting up, only to get kicked in the face again.
He fell back, feeling his arm being pulled closer to the distortion. He tensed the limb, trying to resist the gravitational tug, made all the more difficult by the demon that was kicking him ever closer.

‘Hang on, don’t shove him into it just yet,’ Midian ordered, holding up a hand to stop Marcus.
He lifted his hands from the array of buttons and took a step back, looking towards Electrothanasia.
‘He flashed blue when it appeared – did you notice?’
‘I did, yes. Why?’
‘It’s not the first time that’s happened,’ Midian recalled, thinking of Aizel’s fight against Raesa and Kylun. ‘Although the last time, the blue hue stuck around for longer than just a split second. But he definitely turned blue, and then that weird…whirlpool…type thing appeared. And now it’s happened again, so the two must surely be related.’
‘What other interesting things have you seen from him so far?’
‘When he gets scared – more so than usual – he seems to turn silver. Hmm…and this would be so much easier if he was actually willing to tell us about his experiment, but he wasn’t, so we’ll just have to find out the hard way,’ Midian sigh with a faint sigh.

'So what do you make of his current appearance?'
'Well, I saw it when he went on the run, and the boss caught him in an energy trap. He got very angry and aggressive, punching the field, screaming to be released, and turned into that,' Midian recalled. 'But whatever that form is, it could potentially be very strong. At the moment, Kasuka himself seems rather...weak, hence the name. But that form could be a very valuble asset. To both us and himself. Maybe we should enhance it.'
She picked up the clipboard that Marcus had brought with him, and scribbled down a few notes.
'We still need to find out just how he got those abilities in the first place...' she murmured, over the sound of the pen scratching. 'I suppose we ought to run all the usual tests on him at first, blood analysis and the like. What do you think?'
'I think it sounds good to me. But if anger is the trigger to his current appearance, then how do you propose we work on it? From what I've seen, he has something of a nervous disposition; you'll have a lot of fun trying to keep him angry.'
'I know, that's precisely what I've been thinking. If only there was a way to freeze that particular form...'

'Reckon there's a way you could manipulate that thing into holding Kasuka down?' Midian queried.
'With one arm?!'
'Forget I asked,' she replied, rolling her eyes. 'I'd suggest sedating him, but that would probably make him assume his usual appearance again. Hmm.'
'I've just thought of something,' Marcus announced. 'Remember Izona?'
'Yeah...' Midian slowly replied, narrowing her eyes; Izona had started off as something vaguely resembling a human, but countless genetic experiments had gradually morphed her into a demon. But she managed to retain the ability to flit between both appearances as she so chose.
'Remember when we needed to keep her in demon form? A chemical was synthesised to freeze her appearance...'

'We still have some of that?' Midian said, raising an eyebrow. 'I thought we got rid of it.'
'Nope, the boss ordered me to keep some of it, just in case,' Marcus replied. 'You know where my lab is, right? It's in the top drawer on my desk.'
'Well hidden and out of the way,' Midian snorted.
'Oh shut up. Hardly anyone besides myself ever goes in there now,' Marcus replied. 'Go on, I'll keep Kasuka busy, you go and get it.'
Midian gave a nod, and snuck back out of the arena's observation booth, via a door at the back, so as not to disturb Aizel. When she left, Marcus turned back, and tapped at the buttons again, commanding the demon to stamp heavily on Aizel's chest.

Aizel's hands grasped the demon's leg, as the whirlpool that he was almost forced into faded away. As it vanished, relief flooded through him. With both of his hands wrapped around the demon's ankle, his arm still blazing, he put all of his strength into trying to lift the limb, so that he could get back up onto his feet. If he knocked his foe over in the process, then that would serve as an added bonus.
And as planned, he had no idea that Midian had slipped out of the arena...

Aizel had just about managed to lift the beast's foot a few inches off him, when his grasp slipped, and he got kicked heavily in the chin. His head slammed back into the floor, and he felt momentarily disorientated, dizzied by pain.
'Urgh...' he groaned, clasping a hand to his forehead, as the beast stepped on his chest again. 'Get - off - me!'

Midian hurried through the halls, along to where she knew Marcus worked, when she was stopped by a loud, commanding voice.
'Electrothanasia!'
She screeched to a halt, and turned back.
'Yes, sir?'
'What are you doing, what's going on? Why are you running? Kasuka had better no-'
'No sir, he's in the arena,' Midian interrupted. 'We're testing out his abilities, but I need to get something from this lab here to freeze Kasuka's current form. So we can experiment on it. Improve it. Kasuka could be pretty strong with the correct...enhancements.'
'I see. Let me know of your findings,' the boss replied, and nodded, to signal that she could continue.
'Yes sir, I will,' she said, and hurried into the lab.

Rifling through the drawer that Marcus had told her the serum was in, she came across a test tube, safely sealed.
You could've picked a better way of storing it, Midian thought to herself, and hurried back out of the lab.

The leg finally raised, Aizel rolled over and clambered back to his feet, lunging and lashing out with his burning arm. The demon staggered back, and reached out with its remaining arm. Grabbing a firm grip on the enraged boy, it pressed him against its stump, which was still buzzing and sparking from where the wiring inside it had been snapped.

Midian burst into the observation booth, waving the vial.
'I got it!' she announced.
'Congratulations,' Marcus said, and pointed towards a syringe. 'What do you want, a cookie? Go inject him before he changes!'
'Jeez, keep your hair on,' Midian shot back, picking up the syringe, and heading down into the arena itself.
