"Lets have fun with the sand first" Syrus was quick to say. Honestly, though he was feeling calmer about going into the water, he wasn't ready just yet.

Skye smiled and nodded, then led him to the water's edge, where the sand was wet, but where the waves could barely reach.
"Here is the best place, I think," she said, looking around. "The sand is wet so we can mold it, but dry enough so that it won't make mud and fall into puddles."
She giggled softly and let go of his hand, kneeling in the sand.
"What do you want to make?" she asked him brightly. "We can make anything you want!"

Syrus laughed lightly.
"Let me get ready a bit first. Sand in sneakers are a less than pleasant," he commented, moving over to the dry sand to sit down and remove his sneakers and socks. After that he removed both is jacket and his yellow undershirt so that he wouldn't over heat, now only sporting the skin he had been born with. After rolling up his jeans to a little lower then his own knees, he walked back and kneeled down into the sand.
"How about a castle first? I've never made one of those," he said.

Skye giggled and watched Syrus prepare for their time at the beach. She had left her sandals back at their picnic site, and though she knew her skirt and blouse weren't the best sand-playing clothes, it was all she had with her, and she couldn't take them off.
Next time, she would remember a bathing suit, she promised to herself.
"I never have made a castle either," she admitted, kneeling next to him, "but my sister has, a long time ago. She says, it is good to know what makes a good castle, because sand is different from stone so to make a sandcastle like a real castle would not work."
She paused thoughtfully. "But I think my great grandmother's castle would work as a sand castle, it is not so difficult ..."

Syrus looked at up her with a slight perplexed look on his face.
"You're great grandmother has a castle?" he asked.

Skye looked at Syrus as if having a castle was the most normal thing in the world.
"Yes ..." she replied slowly, sitting back on her heels and folding her hands in her lap. "Is this ... strange?"
To her it was normal ...

Syrus blinked, but then laughed.
"No, not really. I just didn't know that is all," he said, then looked at the sand, experimenting a little by molding random things with his hands. Get used to it and how it worked.

Skye relaxed and smiled again, then scooped up some sand into a tall pile.
"Mama used to live there," she told Syrus softly. "She says ... she did not want to be queen when she gets old ... so she came here ... and then she adopted all of us, and we visit her world sometimes."
Her smile grew brighter as she thought about her uncles who knew sign language and who liked to tease her when they could. But their visits were rare ... she wished they could make more visits, but there simply wasn't enough time ...

Syrus smiled and nodded as he listened to Skye, then realized he really didn't know much about his own mother's past. Was she a citizen of Gaia through and through, or perhaps she used to live in another world entirely.
"Well, at least you visit every once in a while. I'm sure your great grandmother enjoys it," he said.

Skye smiled and nodded. "She always gives out lots of hugs," she giggled softly. "I like to visit there. There are so many big rooms ... I do not like to sleep by myself, though."
She shuddered softly, involuntarily.
"I do not like to be by myself at night," she murmured, turning her eyes to the pile of sand in front of her. "I always feel ... lonely."
She needed small spaces at night so that she didn't feel so vulnerable, but in a palace like her great grandmother's, that wasn't possible. There was simply no such thing as a small room.

Syrus felt the sadness and perhaps slight fear in Skye as he looked at her. He placed one hand gently on hers and smiled to make her feel better as he moved onto his knees to allow himself to pop up just a bit and lean over to kiss her on the forehead.
"Well, if everything goes well, soon you won't have to worry about sleeping alone ever again," he said softly.

Skye was slightly startled to feel Syrus's hand on hers, and when he kissed her forehead she blushed softly. She hadn't meant to seem sad or afraid ... it was just her natural reaction to the situation.
But she blushed even brighter at his words, and she couldn't help but wonder if she might have misunderstood him. Still ... it was a beautiful thought, and she reached forward and squeezed his hand tightly.
"I would like that," she said softly, smiling brightly at him.
She wasn't quite certain, but she felt as though he were asking her to become his mate ... and though she knew that time and consideration were necessary to know if what she felt for him was real and long lasting, she had a sneaking suspicion ... that it just might be.
She wanted it to be.

Syrus tilted his head, almost automatically switching from serious to adorable.
"Of course, things like that take time," he said with a small laugh before starting to mold sand in his hands again.
"Come on, let's build us a sandcastle!"

Skye giggled and also moved to scoop up the sand, and though she hadn't quite seen his lips moving when he had spoken, she somehow seemed to know what he had said - because she began to do exactly as he had suggested.
"First we must start with the keep," she said brightly, making a huge pile between them. "That is where the king and queen live and all of their family, because that is where it is safe for them! The bad people cannot get in there very easy."
Her eyes shadowed slightly again, remembering Suzura's mention of a pirate nearby, and remembering Celebor's stories about pirates kidnapping princesses.
"I wish I had a keep," she murmured softly as she worked, "so that I can hide from bad people."

Syrus tilted his head yet again, looking at Skye and then sighing. He wanted to say that everything would be fine, but that would be a lie because he honestly did not know if it would be or not, and he wished he could have said that he'd keep her safe as if though noting would come to harm her if he were, but he didn't even know if he was capable of doing so, seeing as he hadn't ever been put into a situation like that before.
"Well, you have a large family to keep you safe," he began, then smiled. "And I'll do my best to keep you safe too," He nodded. The promise of trying ones best was just as good, or so he hoped.
