She was reading. It seemed to be her norm now, sitting on her bed in the middle of the day awaiting the arrival of her teacher to find the next word. Every day she and Josh read several pages of a book and every day she went over those same pages over and over again until she could read every word without stumbling. Charlotts web was far behind now though she was still reading childrens books she now clung to a slightly more advanced novel. The rats of nemh. It was an interesting book all about rats and mice whom escaped a laboratory. she knew what a lab was of course, but didn't think the place was scary. It was her place of rescue.
Her long tail twitches as she spoke the words on the page out loud her long black hair falling over her chest, those sweet baby blue eyes scanning the page. She paused often, spelling out any word she got stuck on. Lifting her gaze she looked to the window. Josh would come soon and they would start reading again, she smiled to herself, a little puurr escaping her. She was so glad she had Josh, she was finally learning, finally fullfilling her dream.

Aubrey was on her way back from Billy's, her mind reeling. Had anything really been acomplished? He fancied her. Good. Great. What the hell did that mean? SHould she be relieved it was more than "you were there and you were hot"? But on the other hand... it would be a lot easier for her to make a decision if that was the case.
And damn those Brits. What did "fancy" really mean anyway? Was that a crush? Like? Love?. ARGH!
She was passing by Colche's duplex and stopped. She hadn't seen her 'daughter' in far too long, as a little pang of guilt reminded her. She tried to collect herself then went and tapped on the door. She needed a hug, and no one else she knew was better at giving them.
"Colche! Its me..."

Colche's head lifted from her book, she quickly slipped her book mark in to the page she was at and was about to dash for a t shirt of some kind when she heard Aubreys voice. The little cheetah girl smiled "Mommy!" she called slipping from the bed and padding towards the door her tail swaying happily. Though she still didn't lock her duplex she had started to answer the door, it was something people did.
Opening her duplex door slowly she peeped around a huge smile spread on her pretty maw as usual. She was always happy to see aubrey. He mother figure played a vital role in her life as she knew it. Of course when she looked at Auubrey she sneezed and her nose wrinkled. Her ears perked and she looked around confused. "Billy here too?" her blue eyes searched the door way for the octopus man. he had a very strange smell which hung about him, Colche knew it, it scared her some times. But the man didn't seem to be there, just Aubrey. Shrugging off the scent she held the door open so Aubrey could come in her sweet baby blue eyes dancing happily at her arrival. It had been some time.
She wondered, did Aubrey know about Josh? Did she know she had read all the way through charlotts web? puurring softly her perfect blue eyes rested on Aubrey "not seed forever mommy" she whispers holding out her arms for a cuddle.

Aubrey blinked, a bit surprised at her assumption that Billy was there. She blushed a little and tried to shake off a wave of guilt. "No, Billy's not here. I just came back from talking to him."
"I'm sorry, Colche! I've missed you!" ANd she did... terribly. She pulled her into her arms and hugged her close, burying her face in her long black hair.

Colche puurred happily and giggled snuggling tightly in Aubreys arms, she closed ehr eyes for a moment happy to be in her 'mothers' arms again just being held and loved by somone like Aubrey made her smile. She liked having a mother.
Looking up at the brown haired woman she smiled happily. "I finish charlotts web" she grins, it was her biggest acheivment, the short novel was a tough read for her but Josh had helped her along immencely and she had finally finished the book about the pig and the spider. "Josh helped" she puurrs when she mentions Josh her sweet blue eyes dancing in a shy short of manner her nose tilting to bury itseldf in Aubreys shirt. She had wanted to talk to Aubrey about josh, she didn't understand some things "Josh nice" she mumbled ehr voice muffled in the folds of aubreys shirt.

"Really?" Aubrey said, pulling back just enough to walk Colche inside and close the door. "Thats amazing!! Its a big book." Aubrey gave a nostalgic smile.
Aubrey sat down on the bed and patted the cushions next to her. "You like Josh then?" she asked hopefully. "He's been teaching you well?"

Colche smiled, making her way to the bed she sat down slowly and tilted ehr head a bit. A little purry giggle escaped her and she nodded "uh huh! I learned lots" she states the smile never leaving her face. Her hands lifted over her face for a moment, a little like a kitten covering her eyes shyly. "Likes josh mommy" she whispers peering through her furry fingers. Aubrey would be able to give ehr advice, wouldn't she?
Colche shifted slightly, shuffling closer to aubrey so she could sit against her mother , she liked to spend time with Aubrey when she could, she liked to be hugged by her mommy. of course as she curled close to the woman she noticed the lack of a ring on Aubreys finger. Maybe ht was on the other hand. Scrunching her brow she shrugged it of, it was on the other hand wasn't it?
Her nose wrinkled once again as she cuddled close to Aubrey, why did she smell so strongly of billy?

Aubrey put her arms around the kitten girl and pulled her close. "He's been nice to you, then?"
She watched her expression careflly. "You like Josh a lot hmm?" She felt the corners of her mouth curl into a smile. "Does Colche have a crush?"

Colche looked up at Aubrey she tilted her head softly. She wasn't sure what a crush was, it wasn't a work in her vocabulary, except for when peopel crushed things like insects? Blinking she tilted her head curiously "wassa crush?" she blinked a few times, though being asked if she liked Josh she nodded very shyly looking any where but up at aubrey, her glassy eyed gaze hiding her embarressment. If she could have blushed she would have but the fur on her cheeks hid the ruge that flushed beneath.

Aubrey ran her fingers thourgh Colche's mane of hair, scritching her head lightly. "Well... a crush is when you like someone, and you think that maybe he's your prince, but you're not sure. Love doesn't always happen at first sight. Sometimes you just have to crush for a while to decide if you like them lke a friend, or like them like a prince." And tapped her chin, thats the best way she could think to explain it.

Colche smiled, that was an easy way to explain it.She giggled and nodded "uh huh..I likes Josh" she pauses her sweet blue eyes dancing "dunno wassu say mommy" she smiles shyly her sweet baby blue eyes settling upon the woman she considered mother, friend, everything important.
Of course when Aubrey tapped her chin the cheetha girl noticed the ring wasn't there any more "mommy lost ring?" she questioned her face curious as to wheer the ring had gone aubrey was so happy about it last she had seen her.

Aubrey smiled and patted her daughter's head comfortingly. "Well thats okay. Josh is a very nice man. You know you can talk to me about anything Colche, boys included. It can be complicated."
Of course no sooner had those words left her lips did she ask about her missing ring. How hypocitical of her to encourage Colche to devulge everything to her when she had to bring up this matter which Aubrey certainly couldn't bare to speak to Colche about such things.
She frowned and looked down at the naked finger, rubbing it. "Nick is holding onto it for now," she said simply.
Well, it wasn't really a lie. Just not the whole truth.
