Maya soothed Shisei's hair again, and stood, leaving Kore at Shisei's side and saying to the cub sternly, "If I find any scratch marks from you on him, you're gonna be in for it." Maya stepped out of the tent, whistling for Baki and tugging on the lion's ears. She murmured quietly to him, and then turned towards Orika and Karite. "I'm going to step out for a while - and you're all to stay together. Stay here until Shisei can walk, and after, figure out how to decide where to go. I want a fresh stock of meat when I get back, and you can leave the skins to be cured. I'll do it when I get back. Other than that, if I catch wind that you've been training with bladed weapons, or any weapons other than the wooden ones at the academy, I'll skin all your hides and make a tent." With that, Maya turned and sifted into the tall grass, Baki right behind her.

Orika threw another piece of wood and another until there was a decent pile by the fire. She limped over to the fire and sat down comfortable, letting out a sigh of relief as her legs stretched out, unburdened by the rest of her body. The warm fire made the winter's icy tendrils feel more like a blessing the closer one got to the heated flame. Orika scooted close enough to leave soot on her face from the smoke and relished how the gentle breeze felt on her backside. She took firewood and gradually fed it into the fire. Or so she thought. The girl had plenty of experience lighting fires but this time she had forgotten that fires flare when one adds wood. Thus, a finger of flame leapt out at her when she added the first piece, lighting a corner of her jacket on fire. Orika yelped and quickly hit the ground, rolling by instinct. There had already been many fires on Shimagakure so the villagers all practiced what to do in the event of fire eating through their flesh. A sizzle resounded throughout the grounds once Orika put out the small flame and lay on the snow spread eagle, her eye twitching from the near death experience. It was strange how she didn't consider nearly dying by Karite and Kore's hands a near death experience, but a tiny burn was.

Sweet thing? Was Karite hitting on her or trying to be a man? Orika showed the part of her jacket that had been burnt and giggled in response. "I wish I was a shark! Got nice big teeth and you never get hurt by fire. Rawr!" She bared what tiny fangs she had and began biting the air like a dolphin munchin' shark. Orika noticed the blood Karite spat out, but assumed that he just ate something because they were playing shark, after all. "We'll eat naughty children for breakfast!" the farm girl exclaimed, springing bent claw-like fingers forth, "Gah! geez, I'm hungry. We can take some of the meat we catch for Maya. Hm... I want grizzly bear! No, no, moose! Are there mooses... meese on Shimagakure? Ooh... wait for it... wild boar! I can set a trap while you and Shisei chase it around!" Orika dumped a piece into the fire and made a soft squeal as the flame flared. She was so excited for this hunt and it would be even more fun in the winter! The girl contined to stoke the fire, wondering why Maya ordered her to do such a thing when they were only gonna go out soon and let it burn into embers. She must have thought of the task just then. Orika struggled to her feet, wincing as the pain shot through the dorsal side of her legs and reached for her crutches so she could tell Shisei the news. She opened the tent flap, stepping aside to let Kore pass with a smile, and shouted to Shisei so Karite could hear from far away, "We're going hunting, Shisei! Come on, up and at it! Maya said we have to get lots of meat before she comes back, which could be anytime. Man, by the way she talks, it seems like she wants enough meat for the entire village! Isn't that cool? We're gonna hunt for everyone and it'll be so muuuuuch fun!"

Karite looked at Orika with a wicked smile. For a girl with crutches she was mighty bossy, Karite found it kind of cute. "Look her sweet thing, we don't all have the strength of a great white shark." Spitting out most of the life nector in his mouth he heard Maya coming. Karite stood up as Maya left the tent. He looked at her with a red smile as his teeth were just a bloody as his mouth. Looking at her he spoke, "Ah come one Maya no one will get hurt...maybe me." Karite said laughing out loud he stopped suddenly holding his side. "Never mind, ok we wont do anything to dangerous." Karite stretched a little as Maya and Baki walked off. "I say we go hunting. You know what they say, when the cats away the mice will play." It seemed the gloomy reaper was back to his old self after speaking with the elder lion. "Kore, come here buddy we got some things to do and I am going to need your keen senses to help us out."

The snake child was just about to return to slumber. It did not seem as his senses would get any better, so he let out a gust of air from his throat and prepared to delve back into dreams. Fate would not be so merciful today. Piercing the silence like cannon ball tearing through a shack, the voice is of only one person that Shisei knows. The pale mouth contorted slightly as his brain managed to register who it was. “Orika…”. Like magic the voice was able to pull the snake child out of his haze and he was able to perceive everything. The gold eyes could see the little lion at the side, he could smell the fragrance from the nurse, his body could sense the other member of the ragtag team, his ears could hear hopper’s war cry. Something about hunting. “Ohh joy…” the serpent replied sarcastically, getting up and dressing into his clothes. He put the scarf around his neck and walked out through the tent flap. “Come on. Let’s go.” He said to the girl while walking into Karite’s direction.

Kore came staking forth from the tent as he peered sheepishly towards his surroundings. The snow would not be his friend in his lifetime with the Reaper. As he moved his light body on top of the snow he moved slow as to not fall through, Walking towards his friend he nipped at the boys hands to give him a warning he was still upset with him over the other night. He would continue to be loyal to Karite but to remind him they were a team. Looking up to the boy he noticed a mark in his skin, that was not there before. It was fresh by the intensified smell of blood as he neared the boy. Being picked up and cradled Kore looked at the girl and the snake child and mustered a growl in his throat at both. He could not harm either due to Karite and Maya's instruction but he could scare them both. "Filthy humans they all are, they will learn to be a family. I shall too." The cub thought to himself.
Karite watched as Kore slowly made his way to his so called partner, not to happy to see any of the three the little boy was finally realizing that what he did no longer only effected him, h was a part of something much bigger then just himself. As the cub neared himself to the by he bent down with arms wide to accept the lion but quickly drew back as the cubs tiny teeth nicked at his fingers. Accepting the cub would hold a grudge for a moments to come he was still not leaving the little guy. Picking up the lion cub he cradled him in the black sleeves of his shirt and looked at Orika as he felt the young cub begin to vibrate on his chest. "This little guy and me have hunted before with his senses and our skills we can take down anything. The only problem is we have no weapons. So bring down anything big would be a challenge. So lets hope the fierce animals decided to stay at bay tonight."

"We haven't decided where to go yet," she tersely reminded Shisei. Orika puffed out her cheeks, wondering how three injured students were going to successfully accomplish an activity that was difficult even without wounds. She stretched out her bad leg, noting how much better it was feeling since early morning. It was a good sign, but it wasn't like she could walk yet! Orika glanced at Shisei and chuckled, "But man, you're so enthusiastic! What's up? See something scary in your dreams?" Speaking of scary, Orika heard Kore's growl and instead of cowering in fear that a lion cub had deemed her eatable, she replied with a playful growl of her own. She wasn't scared! Orika giggled afterwards and looked up at Karite, the same cheery smile spread widely on her face. "So you should be really good at this!" she chirped, "So we won't go after boars, but what about something hard, but not so mean, like uh... um... a fox! I really like its fuzzy red fur!" Now she really, really wanted to hunt a cute widdle foxy. "All we have to do is find its foxhole using Kore and it's done! I heard fox meat ain't that bad either."

Karite smiled as Orika suggested fox. While Karite knew a little something about those speedy devils. He would much rather fight something with some meat on it. "Well Orika, I would say bring it on any other day, but I havent eaten since yesterday morning so how about we go after something bigger. You know what they say the bigger they are the harder they fall. So my vote is for a deer in the forest of sorrows." Karite was hurting badly and he knew Kore was in no postion to fight with him this time. It would all relie on his brute strength and his willingness to eat again. If he could snap the neck of the animal he could drag it in. Shisei's speed would allow him to make he first move but then finishing it would be up to Orika or himself. "I think we can do it, injures included." Even though the confident Reaper sounded as confident as ever even he was skeptical about the outcome of this trip.

“Yea… sure.” the serpent youth stated to the broken legged girl. Once again that person had invaded his dreams… among others. Something that hopefully won’t occur again. It just may though until the snake child can come to terms with his peers and adversaries. There was not much distinction between the two words to Shisei. The gold eyes gave a small glare to his overly cheerful, giggling companion. “Don’t worry about it. Let’s just go hunt.” His voice muttered turning away from Orika. His mind began to ponder what they could hunt while the two made their suggestions. Fox and deer were not appealing to the child’s stomach at the moment. The other animal that hopper had stated was interesting though. “Boar.” his lips released that one word. It was then followed by a single sentence to reaffirm his meaning. “We’re going to this Forest of Sorrows for boar.”. The Orochi loner would not mind a fresh pig. Besides if the animal was wild enough maybe it could dispose of his two peers. He couldn’t be blamed for a hunting accident after all. The child’s body gave a swift and small tremble; his eyes squinted so the amber suns look like distant stars in a night sky. The youth would wait for their answer.

"Hmm..." Orika hummed, trying to make sense of the multiple animals thrown her way. Maya wanted a lot of meat and as she glanced at the fur barrel, the girl deduced that she might also be happy with a few furs. "We'll be hunting for the meat and the skins!" Orika declared, "So, first we'll get a deer or two, then a boar, then two foxes. Um, let's see... what about rabbits? Everyone loves hare meat! I think Maya wants us to feed more than just her and us, ya know." Orika chattered as she hopped her way east, towards the scary forest of sorrow. Wait, weren't they forbidden to go in there because it was dangerous? Bah, who cares? It would be fun and they can't possibly get into more trouble... right? Besides, she was up for some adventure. Orika dusted some snow off her gloves and gripped the rubber handles of her crutches tightly. She wanted to shout 'Race ya there!' but what good would losing do, except to further hurt her pride? Nah, she was just being nice to those boys by resisting the urge to beat them again! Orika spun around and stuck her tongue out at the boys. "I'ma catch more than you guys!" she jeered, always up for a good competition. It wasn't fun or productive unless they were fighting against each other in some way, shape, or form.

Shisei adjusted the scarf around his face so that his mouth and nose remained covered and rolled his amber eyes. “You’re going to catch prey before us in that condition? Feh…” the hidden mouth returned as the energy bunny hobbled along to the forest. The Orochi youth shakes his head in a disapproving fashion at her antics. There was a reason why it was restricted from youths such as themselves. It wasn’t supposed to be some stroll like the Orika was thinking. Yet the only reason he suggested it was the snake youth thought it will be the easiest way of catching the needed animals. It was bordered off for a reason after all. If trouble occurred… well he could run away. His injury kept his body with a slight tremble every few seconds, but Shisei was confident that he could expel a burst of speed to save himself. Without anymore words or acknowledgment of the two the maverick headed towards the forest.

Karite shook his head as the two made their way towards the forest. He got stuck with the two weirdest people of all time and a crazed lion handler ontop of that. It was going to be a long day indeed. Keeping Kore close to his chest he followed the two nut jobs to a most impossible of task. Hunting one of the fastest, one of the strongest, and one of the slyiest animals on the island. In thier condtions hunting deer, boar, and fox will be hard without some kind of trap or something. Using the normal tactics arent going to work to well. Maybe for shise and maybe even the Reaper himself. "This is not going to be as fun as I first thought."

Maya returned to the camp slightly less irritated, only to find that she had failed to tell Kore he was to stay put until his wounds had healed completely. Maya knew Karite probably should have stayed too, since he depended heavily on physical movement to do anything, and she sighed. She wasn't very good at babysitting these brats, was she? Shaking her head, she checked the barrel of limestone liquid and, satisfied, pulled out the two deer hides she'd set to soak almost a day before. Sitting on the ground, she pulled out her kunai and began working, the limestone solution having paid off. The deer hair slid off as easily as butter on a hot stone, and Maya couldn't have been more pleased with herself. The doe's hide was easy, almost sickeningly so, and Maya took great care in making sure she didn't tear the hide with the sharp weapon. Maya yawned and smiled as Baki finished walking around the perimeter of the camp, settling down next to her and nudging her gently. He was half in the mood to hunt as well, and he didn't think the young humans would bring in much of a cache.
