Bobby laughed at the question, also finishing off her sandwich. Well, there were worse things that living in the forest for awhile.... like turning into an animal...on an island you could leave...that tore you away from everyone you held dear.... she mentally shook herself. No! She wasn't going to think about that right now... she had company. "Yes, I swim, it was-" Bobby cut herself short, almost saying it was mandatory to be on the force.
"And you, Ian?" The woman asked, offering him another apple, "Do you swim?" Meanwhile, Bobby caught sight of Ian's living space, especially the quarterstaff; although, she kept her attention on the deer-man in front of her.

Ian heard her stop short but he wouldn't press her. "No, I don't swim. I was always reading as a child, not one for physical activity. But one day, I am going to swim here." And hope I don't drown, he added silently.
"She calls to me, and I hear." He was distracted, he didn't realize that what he had said didn't make much sense. He meant the ocean was calling, but the word 'she' could mean anything. For all Bobby knew, he was hearing someone else on the island calling for him.
He looked back at the food, unaware of that last sentence he had spoken. He reached for the egg sandwich. He was still partially human, and he would eat it, surely he wasn't deer enough for it to hurt him.

Bobby smiled, "Maybe I could teach you to swim, then? I did end up teach all of my children, even though Dicky was a little... difficult." She laughed and shook her head at the memory. "Although...there is nothing wrong with reading. I wish I had stayed in school, even though I hated it, but duties called!" The woman winked.
She was devouring her pear when Ian spoke the strange phrase. Even though she had no idea what he meant, Bobby shrugged it off...she wasn't one to pry unless she needed to.
Nodding to the quarterstaff, with pear juice running down her chin, Bobby asked, "So, do you know how to use that?"

So Bobby had children. Ian felt a pang of regret that she would never see them again and his ears drooped a little. "I would love to learn to swim, but not today, the ocean calls, but she is not ready, not today. Or perhaps it is I that is not ready." Ian was speaking in circles, barely making any sense, when he heard her mention reading. "I dropped out of school when I was 16. I couldn't tolerate the bullying.
His eyes also went to the quarterstaff and he shrugged. "I can use it against people if I have to though I would rather not. Quarterstaffs can be just as lethal as swords and guns. I don't know how it would fare against wild predators, but in that case I have the antlers.
"They used to be on my head, but they fell off. Personally I think it would be easier to defend myself with them on my head, but I have to make do however I can." He took a bit of his sandwich, almost grimacing as he wasn't used to the taste of eggs. He swallowed though and grinned. "delicious!"

Bobby couldn't help but giggle a little from Ian's speaking, he sounded like a philosopher! To hear about the bullying, the woman sighed and nodded sadly, "Bullying is a problem. Children can be so cruel... but then again, so can adults." She added it as an afterthought, letting her thinking about the Island situation enter her words.
With a smile, Bobby listened to Ian talking about his quarterstaff, and defending himself. She personally hated all weapons, preferring instead to use her own fists and feet. "I have to admit, the antlers would be much more convenient on your head, about they can work just as well strapped on your wrists or something. Of course, the method of attack would change..."
"I', glad you like it! I am afraid the selection at the cafeteria was a limited, so I didn't have much to work with."

"We survive, all of us. The bullies and the bullied. I don't mind anymore, it is all in the past." He nodded like a wise elder and grinned to spoil the effect.
"When you have been eating leaves for months, anything can be delicious." Ian too hated weapons, but he liked to collect them, he would never use them to hurt someone though he knew how.

Bobby nodded solemnly, as if she was the pupil to a wise elder. When Ian smiled, she narrowed her eyes as if he should behave in Church. But, she too could not hold the gaze and ended up grinning as well.
At the deer's next common, though, Bobby frowned. Her voice said she was joking, though, as well as the sparkle in her dark eyes. "So, what? Are you saying my cooking is bad or something? I have you know that I was a stay-at-home mom! All I did most says was clean and cook, and I prided myself in being a good cook, thank you very much!"

Ian laughed, taking another bite of his sandwichenjoying the flavor of the egg with his human side, while enjoying the vegetables with his deer half.
"I think leaves are delicious too. . .It is a side effect of becoming a deer." Then his mouth snapped shut, but he couldn't take the words back. He didn't want to ruin the enjoyable meal by bringing up changing. He glanced at Bobby, hoping that she could ignore what he had just said.

Bobby chose to not mention the deer-comment... the day was too nice to reflect on the unfortunes of becoming animals, although she didn't know what animal she was turning into -nor did she care to know. The vegetables, though... a topic she rather enjoyed.
Sitting back with a smile and orange in hand, Bobby peeled the fruit. "Ahh vegetables.... they are good and good for you! I always made sure my children ate their fruits and vegetables. Whenever the tried to make an excuse for not eating them, well... I would fix that problem. A common one was, say..." she held up the partially-peeled orange, "take this orange for example. They would complain that it took too long to peel and the seeds were too bothersome. So, I would peel them in the morning, and purposely bought seedless oranges." Bobby winked, "Made everyone happy!"

Ian laughed. "Growing up at my house no one ever ate their vegetables. The meat was always so much tastier." He shuddered a bit."I can't imagine eating meat anymore. But my childhood involved lots of meat and no green." He finished his sandwich and licked the egg that had dripped from his fingers - no point in letting any go to waste, though Bobby might not approve of his manners.
"Good sandwich," he said. "I hadn't realized that one could cook with what was found in the cafeteria." But he refrained from grabbing more to eat. He knew he would just regurgitateand have to rechew it all, and he didn't want to do that in frontof the kind motherly woman.

Bobby didn't even take notice of Ian cleaning up after himself. He had better manners that her children, no less... and much better than the men and women who were put in the cells overnight. "Tsk tsk. One must always have the greens! Humans were not made to live entirely off meat!" She didn't even notice that she had mentioned the phrase humans. The way she talked, it was as if she still saw Ian as a human, and not his deer attributes.
"Alas, I cannot fully cook in the cafeteria," Bobby sighed. "What I do is combine what is there as best I can to make something new. I don't actually have the chance to stand at the stove and make food, but maybe I can try that... see if I need to get special permission or something." The woman chuckled a little at the thought of her cooking at the stove with all the people she met sittting at the tables and pounding their forks/hooves/paws. The thought reminded her of home and made her smile.

Ian was fully in support of her using a stove to cook. If her actualy cooking was better than her delicious throwings together then he would move back to the village and his duplex just so he could eat what she made. He voiced that aloud and grinned. Yes, her cooking was absolutely delicious.
And she didn't seem to care that he was a deer. That made him immensly happy, and he felt almost normal. "We should ask the doctors about you cooking." He had used the word we unconsciously, but he meant it. He would help her ask if he had to.

Bobby blushed at Ian's comment about her cooking, although with her dark skin, it wasn't easy to see. Secretly, though, the woman was honored and took pride in her cooking. "I am glad you liked it."
With a whole-ful laugh, Bobby nodded, wiping tears from her eyes, "Yes, we should go ask the doctors... how do you think they'd take it? Do you think they would be afraid I'd poison them or something?" The woman could see it now, with her cooking at the stove as who-knows-what, with three bodyguards to make sure she didn't put anything bad in the food...or combine anything to cause the same effect. And if she did... they'd drag her away like a child with a tantrum!

Ian thought for a moment. "Not if they thought that you wouldn't make everyone eat it. Besides, why would you be trying to poison yourself? Thou wouldst be eating it too." Ian did laugh at the mental image her comments had produced though.
A home cooked meal would be great, not that the normal cafeteria spaghetti wasn't good. It was just. . .too fancy for Ian all the time. "Talk to them, I'm sure they'd be understanding." After all, they did supply things like clothing and such.

Bobby shrugged, "I wouldn't want to poison anyone, but they don't know that," she winked.
Pondering it, Bobby could only agree, they did provide almost anything you wanted, "I'll ask, I promised Ambrose some Chinese food, already!"
Getting up, the woman brushed herself off. She walked to Ian's quarterstaff, grabbed it, and then stood nearby him. Her eyes sparkled and she was wearing a big grin. "I've been eyeing this almost the whole time, would you mind a workout? I understand that it will be a little different for me, but I've kick-boxed with oponents who had a quarterstaff before."
