Watching him head out to gather the branches and firewood, Amuriel leaned against the cave wall and yawned, waiting for him to return. She smiled at him as he returned and sat up again, watching him expectantly.
"You've gotten so much better at that," she said, smiling at the fire he had created. The ability to control his powers had been improving quite a bit, as far as she could tell, and she was proud of him for it. He had been training so much, and he deserved to see some results.
She scooted closer to the fire again and wondered how he was going to season the meat with the berries.

"Thanks... It's always nice to know that my training isn't going to waste.. you know?"
Chuckling softly, Maelthra prodded the fire to make sure it was burning nicely before taking the berries and looking at his slab of deer meat. He took a moment or two to think about it before simply squeezing and mashing the berries above the meat to get the juices onto it. Once that was taken care of, he just sort of worked the juices into the meat more before stabbing it onto a piece of bone to start roasting it in the fire.
There was some leftover berry juice on the leaf he had the meat on, so he went ahead and dipped the other vegetables in it before sticking them onto some bone as well to roast those along with the meat.

"I know. I would be upset if I trained extensively without results..." Amuriel replied, watching as he flavored and cooked the meat and vegetables. The roasting food smelt so good! She hadn't yet realized exactly how hungry she was until he began cooking, the aromas and scene of cooking appealing to her senses.
"Mmm.. that smells so good," she said, grinning and rubbing her stomach as it growled. Maelthra really seemed to be a good chef as well as a hunter, which was just as well, since he seemed to enjoy cooked food better than raw, and Amuriel did not know how to produce fire.

Maelthra sniffed the air as their food began to cook. Aside from the meat and vegetables themselves, the berries added a sweet hint to the scent the food produced. He had smelled better foods when he was with the humans, but he also thought that this really wasn't too bad.
"Yeah... the food's almost done too."
With a grin, he nodded to her while leaning in to check on the foods to check on them, making sure he wouldn't end up burning or overcooking any of the things there.

"hehe.. I can't wait till it is done," Amuriel replied, grinning as her stomach rumbled again. This time, however, it was different - a little more gnawing and painful rather than hunger. The twinge from before, but intensified again, she wondered? Yes. I had, after all, never fully went away. It had always been there, but low and twinging. Though this time.. it was much stronger. The sweet scent of the berry juice mixed with the meat overpowered her, and she wrapped her arms around her stomach as she bent over slightly, her smile dissolving into a frown while the pain got worse as she watched Maelthra cook.

Smiling as he was focusing on the cooking, Maelthra soon removed the food from the fire, though left the blaze going for now to help ward off the cool morning air. He prodded at the meat lightly and momentarily before turning towards Amuriel to give her her share. It was then that he noticed that she was no longer smiling and seemed to be either uncomfortable or in pain.
".. Is something wrong..? You don't look too well..."
The elder in elven form frowned as he scooted closer to her, setting the food onto the leaf he had originally wrapped the meat in for storage. Reaching out with his hand he gently felt her forehead and stroked her hair as if to try and comfort her.

Amuriel nuzzled his hand and smiled slightly, caressing his face while replying, "I'm fine. I just feel a little sick.
"No need to worry though," she added. "I'll be fine."
Glancing over to the food he had prepared for her, she felt another wave of nausea overtake her, even stronger this time, and she quickly got up and ran out of the cave to vomit in the bushes a little way from their home. When she was finished, she felt a little better, though shaky, and she rinsed her face, hands from the pool before heading back inside.

Maelthra leaned into her touch, nodding lightly while still looking at her with concern. He was about to say something in return, but the suddeness of her hurrying off to do what sounded like vomiting had cut off any words that were to come from his lips.
As she returned, he furrowed his brow as he watched her, feeling fairly worried now.
"Are you sure you're ok..? You didn't eat anything odd last night did you..?"
He stood up and walked over towards her, where he placed a hand on her shoulder to help keep her steady. Amuriel had seemed fine moments ago, so he was baffled to what was ailing her now.

Returning to their home, Amuriel walked over to Maelthra and leaned against him gently, burying her face against his shoulder as she gained her breath. She had no idea what hand come over her, but she didn't feel very well at all. The vomiting had helped some, but she was still very nauseous.
"I don't believe I ate anything odd last night.. maybe I just caught some sort of bug or something," she replied, frowning. The night before, she had had what she ate many times before - a mixture of carrots, lettuce and other vegetables. She didn't understand why she should suddenly get sick on them now.
Looking back over to the food, she felt her stomach turn a lurch. No food right now, she thought. Maybe later... it had smelt very wonderful after all, but for now, her stomach was protesting.
She nuzzled Maelthra and pulled away to walk over to the bed, lying down carefully on her side and placing her hands over her stomach. "I think I'm just going to rest a bit," she said, watching her mate and eyeing the food he had made for her. "Unless you decide you're hungry enough to eat it, will you save my part for later?"

Nodding slowly, Maelthra held Amuriel fairly tightly in his arms while rubbing her back gently to see if that would help at all. It was definitely possible that she had gotten ill, but he hoped that wasn't the case. Or if it was, he hoped that it wasn't anything serious and that it would go away soon.
"Maybe... but I hope you feel better soon love..."
Letting her go as she went to the bed, he followed and knelt down beside her.
"I'll save it for you, but maybe you should switch forms.. maybe you'll feel a little better in your true form... You should at least feel a little warmer."
Tilting his head as he reached out to stroke her hair softly, he looked over her to see if he could spot anything odd. She didn't seem to have a fever at all, and there wasn't anything that stood out as being wrong with her. So he couldn't think of why she was feeling the way she was.

"Hm.. that's true," Amuriel replied, thinking, as her lover knelt down beside her. "My true form would be warmer.."
Carefully, she shifted forms and curled up again on the bed, resting her head between her front paws and watching Maelthra as he examined her. "Do you notice anything..?" she asked, rolling deep on to her side so that more of her body and stomach was exposed. She didn't think she could have gotten wounded without seeing or feeling, but there was always a chance he could see more about her than she could herself, especially in her true form

Stepping back momentarily while his mate shifted forms, Maelthra just watched before stepping closer to look over her again. With a frown and a sigh, he soon shook his head.
"No, I don't see anything... How do you feel exactly...? And you wouldn't happen to know any remedies for what you feel would you?"
Kneeling down again by her head, he rested his hand lightly on top of her, feeling her soft fur while still trying to figure out what she was going through. Absolutely nothing was coming to mind however.
I hope you're alright...

"I know a few remedies, but they're generally based on whatever is the cause. Certain fluids, plants or things for different ailments. There are a couple of general remedies though. I have some mint in my garden patch. That can help sometimes," Amuriel said, thinking and rolling back over to place her head between her paws again in a comfortable position. If she could figure out why she was sick, then she would have a better time at helping herself, but she was certain that if she just held out, it would go away on its on anyway.
She pushed her nose gently against Maelthra's chest and nuzzled him as she thought. "You should eat your food before it gets cold love. I'll be fine here," she said, smiling at him as she went over a list of causes in her head.
Food poisoning was something she thought of first, since Maelthra had mentioned that. Poison berries? No. The food she ate now came from her own little garden, and she had been eating from it for a few weeks now without getting sick. Could something have contaminated it? She didn't think that was possible either, considering it was relatively sheltered. Contaminated water? No... her mate would be affected then too, since he shared the same water supply. A simple... bug? Virus as the humans called it? Maybe. But from whom? She saw no one other than Maelthra, and he hadn't been sick either. She had once heard from the humans that stress or emotions could induce sickness, but she had been very peaceful lately. Her life with Maelthra was more than she had ever imagined it would be.
For a brief moment, she smiled at him and thought of how much he meant to her, her lover, her mate, her friend... and her nausea seemed to melt away as her heart expanded and swallowed it. Maelthra... as she began to think further, though, her heart begin to shrink as her anxiety. Her nausea increased once more, and she trembled lightly, wondering.

For a little longer, Maelthra watched over his love, still feeling rather worried that she wasn't feeling well and they didn't know why. He had made a mental note about what she said about mint, and thought of ways that he could give her some without making her nauseas from eating food or anything like that.
"Alright... but.. just take it easy ok?"
Frowning, he stroked her fur gently before making his way back to the food, picking up the meat to begin eating it. Though as he ate by the fire, he watched Amuriel and just thought to himself.
It came up so sudden... and she doesn't have a fever... what could be wrong with her..? She didn't have some sort of health problem in the past that's coming back up now did she..? I hope that's not the case...
Shifting as his imagination started to get a little wild with the possibilities, he stared over at her, hoping dearly that she would feel better soon. All the while, he just continued to slowly eat his food.

"Alright. Will do," Amuriel said, trying to smile wider despite her growing fear and nausea. She watched him until he reached the fire again and sat down, then she closed her eyes and tried to pretend resting.
Could it be? she wondered, rolling an idea over in her mind. Could I be... pregnant? I have felt differently these past couple of weeks... but would they be pregnancy symptoms? I can't tell.. I've never been told what to expect... but Maelthra.. he and I have been... We have been...
She faltered and blinked her eyes open again, watching Maelthra with more realization than curiosity. As she began to realize the idea, her nausea also began to subside to a more manageable level. Of course... how could she think that they would be immune to the life of parenting...? How could she have not realized that they could not spend their lives together and be in one another's arms without facing parenthood?
She shifted slightly in her spot as her fear began to return again, and with it her increasing nausea. If she were right, this would be just one sick time of many more to come. Drawing in a deep breath, she closed her eyes again. She would just need to wait and see if she began to change more. She could, after all, really just have a stomach disease and nothing more, but something about her sudden realization seemed to click into place.
