Emmy's laughter cut through the jumble of Ethan's confused thoughts, rather to his relief. He even managed to smile and laugh a little in return.
"Just a little bit," he agreed with a small shrug. "I can't help it. It's an affliction."

"A-flick-shun?" Emmy asked. Hm. Big words. She wasn't used to those. Oh well!
"Do you still like me, Ethan? You went away and did not tell me..."

"Oh. It means like....illness, I think? Something like that," Ethan said absently. At Emmy's question he squirmed a little uncomfortably.
"I do. Very much," he said, looking at the ground and feeling slightly disgusted with himself. "I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye. When I went home...I was just being selfish. A bit of a regression to how I used to act all the time. Though when I took off the other day, that was because of a mental snap."
He ventured a rueful smile and half a laugh.
"I suppose that's as good enough excuse as I'm allowed."

Emmy just smiled. Oh, poor Ethan. All hurt and embarrassed and guilty. Oh well! Fixed easily enough! The girl leaned in, catching Ethan in a rather abrupt kiss, although better than the first.

Ethan's eyes widened with shock, but it was mild and quickly forgotten. When the kiss was over he didn't even blush, just touched his lips as though not sure what had just happened and giving Emmy a slightly bewildered look.

Emmy just grinned, waiting for some kind of response.

"Um."
Ethan blinked owlishly. That was...well, he had to admit, better than the first time. He broke out into a stupid sort of grin, ducking his head a bit.
"W-well, I...um. That was..." he dithered, trying to hide the grin that wouldn't seem to go away and trying to be serious. He was failing quite spectacularly.

Emmy gave a happy little sigh and stood, offering her hand to Ethan.
"We should go to a movie! I will buy you dinner!"

Ethan sat there smiling at the ground like an idiot for a moment before collecting himself enough to nod and take Emmy's hand.
"O-okay," he said, only a little hesitantly. Well, why not? Emmy seemed to know what she was doing, which was pretty good since he didn't have a clue. Not that that was at all unusual.

"C'mon!" Emmy giggled and pulled Ethan to his feet, beginning for the road immediately.
"What movies type do you like?"

Thinking about asking if Emmy had anything else to wear - say, oh, anything that constituted more than a veil - Ethan figured it would be very ungracious and let it go. He let himself be lead, still grinning a bit.
"Anything but horror," he replied instantly. After a beat, really thinking over the question he added, "Action's good. Lots of shiny, right to the point."

__Part 15
"So you're going to stay with us?"
Marcos took a swig from his bottle and shrugged.
"No where else to go," he said dryly. "As melodramatic as I know it sounds."
Ethan grinned a little.
"It's a nice place to live," he said, nodding slightly. "Crow and the others will like you."
Marcos shrugged indifferently.
"If you say so," he said, taking another drink.
Ethan sighed.
"You shouldn't drink so much."
"Says the former drunk."
Marcos grinned at Ethan, a crooked, tired expression, and ruffled his hair as he stood up. He weaved only slightly.
"You're a good kid, you stupid brat," he said fondly. "I'm glad you're not dead."
Ethan laughed, taking the dubious compliment in stride.
"I'm glad you're not dead, too."
"Yeah, yeah, why don't we just screw and get it over with..."
Shaking his head as Marcos laughed coarsely, going back into the house, Ethan sat on the porch and toyed with the electrical tape around his wrist. He cast a shifty look behind him, and then slipped the makeshift grounding off. Electricity immediately sparked and slithered across his skin, blue-white branches of energy that made the air crackle. He grinned, and slipped the tape-bracelet back on, sitting back and looking skyward until Marcos called him back inside.
