No, I'm afraid not. It's a turn-based fight. This Pokemon attacks. That Pokemon attacks. Next turn.
And when Duke mentions customizing moves, he means that you have up to 4 at a time. The pokemon learn new moves, but you have to get rid of one to learn the new ones. You can purchase software (in the game) to teach Pokemon new moves, and some software allows moves to help you outside of battle. But these moves cannot be later deleted.
Lots of choices to be made when deciding attacks, as you can see. 3nodding (I didn't expect you to understand any of that)

Ah, okay. I get it. How many pokemon can you carry at once to aid you outside of battle and for challenges in battle?

Six. 3nodding You can have as many Pokemon as the Pokemon Center's computer can hold (which is a lot), but when you're walkin' around you can have up to six.

They do whatever you want them to do. ^^ Usually, this is mostly battling other trainers and wild Pokemon. Usually, you're the one finding the Pokemon.

Are there any herb you can gather to make your Pokemon stronger? Or is it just through battle and training to do that? Have any died before?

1. There are healing items that you can buy. You get money for every trainer battle. 2. Yes, Pokemon "level up" by battling, making their attack, defence, and speed better. 3. They don't die. They "faint."
