At the time of the dinosaurs, Antartica was a lot further south, so it could support a tropical environment. As it drifted north, it lost this environment to the cold and turned into the Antartica we know today.
Actually, global warming has been going on for a long time, BUT we have considerably speeded up the process and increased the greenhouse effect as well. It all started at the beginning of civilization in the Middle East, with the start of farming. Especially rice patties, as they release large amount of methane when they decompose. Thats why a lot of the greenhouse effect can be attibuted to China today, but it is the factories increasing the amounts of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, methan, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's), that have made a lasting effect on the environment.
With the climate forcing increasing at .5 watts per year, we are in for some trouble. Climate forcing has always been around, but it has gotten considerably worse lately.
Most people used to think that the greenhouse effect and global warming was attributed to the Industrial Revolution, but it was actually attributed with the start of farming, as I have mentioned before. Of course, these are the kinds of people that thought global warming and the greenhouse effect are the same thing.
The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)has done a study on climate, yet they are not really doing much to stop the trend that is occuring. We, the human race, care too much about our power now than the future of ourselves.
I had to do an essay on this very subject and I theorized about electrical energy and giving up on bad oil plants and nuclear energy, as they are damaging the environment. The problem is that this will make us lose a lot of our energy in electrical and other power resources that we have today and our technology will be sent back a couple decades. The electrical power that we start upon will get to the point that we are at now in a couple hundred years, but it seems people don't want to wait that long.
I do know what I am talking about here, as our Superquiz topic this year is climateology and the overall topic is China. All these facts are correct and have been created by the greatest scientists on the planet today.
The truth is, if we don't give up our selfish demand for power, we will doom ourselves and our end is much nearer than most think. The approximate 50 years that I mentioned.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_Decathlon(Oh and we will beat State this year! If we do, then theres a good chance that we, I mean Texas, can get first place in Nationals. California and New York are our greatest competition, though Arizona and Illinois have been steadily improving for the past few years.)
