laurel/priest activity

((we had an activity where we dressed up like pioneers, were divided into 'family groups' and pushed/pulled handcarts through a very hilly portion of the Arizona desert (it was someone's property, not a random stretch of desert). we had two 'babies' which were really bags of flour with dresses and heads on them that had to always be carried by someone, not thrown in the hand cart (did I mention that we had to assemble the hand carts too?). I carried "Kip" the whole time and at one point in the trek, each family had to bury one of the babies (we buried "LaFawnduh"). For 1/2 a mile the girls had to push the carts all by ourselves b/c the men were 'called on missions' and ' sent to join the mormon battalion.' it was really hard and people kept eating my salt water taffy b/c they didn;t bring enought of thier own food, but it was very fun in the end and I'm so glad that I did it. I have the Kip doll, minus the mini sack of flour, hanging up in my room.))
