"Alright," Dari said.
"Uh, they were pretty much the same," Toby replied, "There was nobody on cell phones or anything and no height requirements, but they haven't changed much." The prices too. By God, the prices. "There's actually a treat that's made completely out of sugar and food color. Completely."
Dari nodded. "Cotton candy, fairy floss, whatever you want to call it."

"I know that one," Maia grinned. "We can share a bag of cotton candy. Toby, do you want to go on a few rides with me?" Some of them went too high or too fast or too upsidedowny, but she was sure there were safe ones. "What's your favorite treat to get?"

"Of course," Toby nodded, "I like the rides." Dari could generally not go on anything that spun too fast, because people started getting suspicious when you started flattening. Anything fast at all tended to pin him to the seat!
Cotton candy and rides reminded him of the good old days, before all of this werewolf s**t when life was simpler. Of course nowadays was the good new days. You had to have both if you were going to survive, sometimes several times over.
"Aw man... I'm not sure. I bet you'd like candy apples. Or caramel ones. It's been a long time since I've had company like this at a fair."
Like what, Toby? That was all Dari could think. They had gone together and had fun. They had gone in a group and had fun. So what was different now, hm? His expression remained stoic, but he was smirking on the inside.

"We could all go on the ferris wheel," Maia suggested as they pulled into the parking lot. They parked and she climbed out of the car. "What should we do first?" she asked. She wanted to do everything. "Want to look around? They have booths!" She pointed towards a photo booth. "We could get pictures!"

Toby had to jog to keep up and then was delayed again as he and Dari stopped to pay for their entrance. Then when all three were together, it was back to rapid-fire Maia questions.
"Well you never eat before you go on rides," Toby said. Even the ferris wheel, he supposed, just to be safe. "What do you want to do first?"

Maia considered the question before grinning at the two agents. "Let's look around first, that way we can get a feel for what we want to do later." She reached for Toby's hand, seemed to think about it, and took Dari's instead. "You can show me your favorite games, we'll make sure to play them."

Toby actually unfurled his fingers to accept Maia's hand, but quickly returned them to normal when she went for Dari. Oh, wow, that could have been awkward. Hadn't she been reaching for him, though? Maybe not. Misunderstandings happened. Dari meanwhile took Maia's hand easily.
"I challenge you to a red star shootout," Toby said, pointing to Dari. Dari nodded.
"Who am I to stop you if you want to lose?"

Had Toby been about to take her hand? Huh. He'd seemed so against it, when she'd first come to stay with them. "Let's look get pictures together," she said. They didn't have any proper ones; she'd started taking some with her phone.
"You might tie," she said, looking between the two guys. "I'll watch."

"More likely we'll both lose miserably," Toby said, "They're real sticklers for ANY star left on the paper."
Toby headed off toward the photo booth and slid inside, then held the curtain open for Maia and Dari.
"It's going to be a squeeze!"
Dari gestured for Maia to enter before him. If anyone was going to be sitting on laps, it should be her.

"You might both lose, which is a tie," Maia pointed out, smiling at Toby. "But you might win. I don't suspect you tend to miss."
She climbed into the photobooth, scooting onto Toby's lap to ensure Dari had enough room.

"You don't really miss, you just-- ah, well you'll see later." Toby easily opened one arm to let Maia in and allowed her to sit on his lap.
"So you get three or four pictures, so we should do something different in each one, right?" Toby asked. Dari sidled in and adjusted some of his pressure to let Maia sit more comfortably. His arm made a large lump on the outside of the booth.

Maia would wait to see what he meant; if you didn't miss the target, what happened, exactly, to make you lose?
"Right," she agreed, smiling. "So three or four pictures, that'd be one for each of us."

"Well I'm sure we can get it to print more than one strip, can't we?" Toby leaned forward to look at the admittedly limited controls. Well, maybe not. Oh, wait, it was doing things. "What background do we want?" he asked and then, with no input whatsoever, chose the sparkly pink BEST FRIENDS theme likely meant for preteen girls.

Maia smirked at the background chosen, not objecting whatsoever. "Nice one," she commented. She studied the controls. Huh. They seemed simple enough.
"After this, want to show me your star shooting skills?"

"Sure-- OOH I DID IT." He had accidentally said that they were ready, and the screen was counting down. "Everybody smile!"
Dari was a little slow to respond, and would thus look marginally confused in the first photo beside Maia and a slightly psychotic-looking Toby.
