"Really? You get a lot of kids here in this building?" he chuckled, imaging how fun Halloween had to be for the kiddies, walking up and down the stairs and little costumes huddled in the elevator. "Don't let the men down, Tim."His grip tightened on the controller, wondering why that was triggered and took another sip of his water, focusing on the coolness, trying to show no outward signs of his trigger, but he could already feel the nervous in his spine, the twisting gut. He'd forgotten how much he hated Halloween. "It's impossible to be good at Rainbo--See I already died." and forced himself to chuckle a bit, silencing to focus on the game instead of his mind.

Daren had worked with damaged children long enough that he knew the signs. the slight hitch in Tim's breath, the tightening of his hand on the controller, the way he was focusing too hard to actually be focusing. Daren gripped his steering wheel with one hand and placed the other on Tim's back, rubbing it soothingly. it had been something about Halloween that had triggered him. Jason would most likely be working that night, Halloween was always rough for cops and hospitals, so Tim would probably be alone. or forced to go to some party with Andy. "got any plans for the night? i was going to sit at home and watch crappy old movies, you are welcome to join me if you want."

The man jumped at the touch on his back, exhaling slowly and looking at Daren with a thankful smile and forcing himself to relax against his friend's hand. "For Halloween? I think Andy was hosting a party which would result in me being in my room avoiding it assuming I wasn't forced to participate." he explained, barely avoiding a fall on the track. "Crappy Halloween movies seem like the best way to spend the evening. Though I may participate in Andy's party just to be polite before leaving, you know?"

Daren nodded, "yeah, i understand." he remembered that there had been several disturbing costumes in Givens' house and Iroh had mentioned several videos where Tim was forced to dress up for Givens' 'guests'. he had a feeling that might be a part of why Tim was having a hard time, not to mention the party would most likely have costumes and girls wearing next to nothing. trigger city, that he thought to himself as he completed a circuit of the course. "You should attach dollars to your ears and be a buck'an'ear," he supplied helpfully. maybe if it was a cleaver play on words and not an actual costume, he would have an easier time of it. "you could also write book on your face and be Facebook. another one is carrying a sign that says 'Nudest on Strike'. i favor that one for the parties of people at the office, seems to go off well at least. i've a couple others if those don't strike your fancy."

Tim frowned, coming in second to last, trying to get ahead to maybe try and beat Daren. Honestly here he was lowing his own horn and he was falling off left and right. He shifted over to lean against the man, not wanting his arm to tire out trying to give comfort, and body heat was enough to calm him temporarily. However at the first suggested costume he couldn't help but laugh, Mario falling off of the course. And they just kept getting worse, Timothy pausing his game to keep from losing his spot in 8th place. "Th-Those are so lame!" he finally gasped, trying to control himself and giggling madly behind the controller, looking up at Daren with tears in his eyes, still trying to catch his breath. "I think Buck'An'Ear might might work." and burst into another fit of laughter, relieved and thankful for his friend.

Daren grinned back, "you should go buy a soft baby doll and attach it to your a**. then you'd be a baby sitter. if you are feeling really lazy, wear a white shirt and carry around markers to be a page from an autograph book." it was good that Tim was laughing, it meant he was viewing this in a better light and that was a good thing for all of them. maybe Daren could make Halloween something fun for the man, he hoped so, at least.

Tim continued to laugh at Daren's poor excuses for Halloween costumes, leaning up against the man and holding his sides, tears trailing down his cheeks. "I think that one. I think, I think," he was gasping, trying to remember how his lungs properly functioned. "I think I will be an autograph page. That sounds hilarious." And chuckled, lifting his glasses onto his head to wipe his face, "So if I come over will you sign my shirt too? You saved a person from a lion and I find that impressive." Hell everyone found it impressive until s**t hit the fan, but But focus on the good. Try to keep the mood good.

Daren rubbed the back of his head, "not sure you want the autograph of some old has been like me. but, if you really want, i can sign it for you." he was glad Tim was laughing, it was good to see. "come on, get control of yourself. we need to finish this race! let's see if you can beat us."

"You're my friend. I'll always want your autograph." and nuzzled into his friend before picking up his controller once more. "All right. I can beat you guys I'm not distracted anymore." but stayed there in the small groove of Daren's side, enjoying how cozily he could fit in it. "If I'm in the way of your arm tell me and I'll sit on the floor." And pressed play, able to focus a lot better on the game. He went from eighth to fifth place, though with a lot of falling off involved. "Fifth place!" he cheered, no longer in the latter half of the players.

Daren 'drove' one handed and did significantly worse than he normaly did, not that he minded. he took sixth place, coming in right behind Tim. "alright, you win. so, do i give you a prize now or owe you a treat or something?" he asked, lifting his eyebrow at his friend. "i think i still have ice cream, you can have that as a reward." he had forgotten how comfortably Tim fit against his side. it just felt right but that feeling made him a little sick to his stomach. did it feel like that because he and Tim were close friends, or because he viewed Tim as his possession and that his 'rightful place' was at Daren's side where he could control him? he didn't want to think about it, but had a feeling that it was probably the latter. he was his father's son, after all.

"I think I should get a prize now he said, looking up with a proud smile at not sucking for once. Daren's response was a good response. Ice cream was a good reward. "I'll get some for you too." and slipped out from Daren's warmth, socked feet padding to the kitchen. The ice cream was exactly where he expected it to be, moving around easily in the ever-familiar kitchen, scooping out two bowls worth of ice cream before walking out again, offering a bowl to Daren. "Consolation prize?" and sat back down beside him, leaving enough space so Daren could use both his hands again.

Daren accepted the bowl and took a bite, the smooth cream making him smile. "works for me! i'll use any excuse to eat ice cream." he grinned and took another bite, "let's see, so we've got your Halloween costume figured out, anything else that you can think of? i need to get candy here soon before all the good stuff is sold out. should i get full candy bars or those mini ones do you think?"

Tim was letting the dessert melt in his mouth, swallowing it as soon as Daren asked him a question. "I think the large bars. It'll make us the most favorite floor in the building, plus if we have any left over we can eat them. What about those large pixie stix? I know those are like currency. Maybe packets of gum? I don't know what high school you went too but at mine gum was quite literally the currency next to actual dollar bills." He took another bite, "What're you going to be for Halloween?"

Daren nodded, "that would work. i'm sure the kids would like that." he had been to several high schools, being switched from foster care to foster care. he was never at the same house for long, most of his 'parent's intimidated by him and not wanting to keep him around. his senior year he had staid at one house for the entire school year, the longest he'd been in one place since his mother's death, but the neglect and abuse had been so bad that he'd sent a representative the moment he became a cop and it had been instantly shut down. "me? going to be a washed out, former cop." he shrugged, "means i don't have to do much by way of dressing up. my other idea was a fairy, but i don't think a tutu and tights would suit me."

Tim snorted, putting his hand over his mouth to prevent spitting out ice cream. "I think the color pink would go very well with your skin color." he said through his fingers, swallowing. "But you should be the buck'an'ear. I'm sure the kids would find that funny. Don't be something depressing. Halloween is supposed to be fun and we snack on candy while waiting." He finished his bowl, setting it on the coffee table. "But if you dress as a fairy I'll do it with you."
