Daegonna smiled in what might've been relief, and might have been bitter, ironic amusement. "Yeah. The first time." Daegonna tilted her head to one side as a small furry head poked out of Iden's coat. She raised her eyebrows as a little ferret crawled out and perched on his chest. A ferret? Daegonna chuckled softly as Iden scratched the ferret's chin, and smiled at him.

Iden chuckled softly as he stroked the furry body of his ferret. It brought about another sigh, and slowly his eyes slid upwards.
Nosy little thing, aren't you? Least you didn't ask a few months ago...that woulda been a sore subject.
Iden's chuckle persisted for a few more seconds. His bottle was all but forgotten now, as he patted the ferret gently on the head. She nipped at his finger, and he gave a playful tug.
Her name's Liela, by the way. The ferret. Named after my original Sire...funny story, what happened to her. Maybe I'll tell it after this one, Iunno. But this was some time back, when I honestly thought working two minimum wage jobs and trying to keep school a viable option was the worst it could get. You follow so far?

Daegonna chuckled softly. "Curiosity is one of my few endearing qualities." She said, smiling brightly. Fangs and serpentine eyes aside, she wore that childish charm perfectly. The pigtails helped.
She listened as he spoke, nodding every now and then. She reached out, extending a hand towards Leila. If the ferret would allow it, she would pet her. It sounded like Iden had had a normal life once. I wonder what that's like....

Yes, a normal life. Iden hadn't really had a NORMAL normal life, but he's had one that was about as close as any DeSeer could boast. It was what made him so human in all things, even while surrounded by monsters and monstrous deeds.
It's what made Iden smirk at the kid-sister appeal Dae had, that just made him want to treat her like the little lolicreature little sisters were. It was also what made Iden skeptical, and amused at the same odd charm.
As she extended her arm, Iden extended his. Liela scrambled down his sleeve, and skipped from his outstretched fingers to Dae's with a soft yip of effort. Meanwhile, Iden just maintained his cocksure smirk.
So, life sucked. I had been kicked out of my home, leaving a b***h of a mother with a little brother that didn't deserve being born into the ******** up family he lived with. Lucky him she liked the boy...or else he'd have been out there with me. But it was cool...after years of putting up with the s**t, I'd had it all planned. I had an apartment, and my girlfriend helped by chipping in. School sucked, given the difficulty of balancing it with two part time jobs...but all told, things were holding together, even if I lost all semblance of a social life. Such was the scene...but it was almost over. I'd managed to make it to the last year of school, and petitioned colleges all over the country with my little embelished sob story...all was well, right? Nothing could go wrong.

Daegonna grinned as Leila hopped onto her arm. In that instant, the carefully practiced childish act fell away. The change was all but imperceptible. The only thing that changed was the look in her eyes. The delight on her face was real. She was a little girl with a fuzzy playmate and pigtails. She cuddle and stroked the ferret, giggling and grinning. Daegonna's inner child loved animals. She listened to Iden, glancing up at him every few moments and nodding in understanding. She felt a pang of familiar pain and anger. Her own mother had left a bit to be desired. When Iden said 'nothing could go wrong' Daegonna's smile dimmed the tiniest bit. This was the part where everything was torn apart, the part where you found out your sister's babysitter was a *****, or your boyfriend was mugged and brutally murdered, or your daddy beat you, or you were murdered or Sired or something like that.

Iden's RPer finds it lulzy that Dae took the "lolicreature" title with such gusto and pride.
That said, Iden had this detatched look of content as Dae played with the ferret. The rodent, for one, was loving it. She was nipping with glee at the fingers that taunted her, and squeaking softly with delight.
Iden continued, however, as the pair did their stuff.
Yeah, so life wasn't too bad. Funny thing, too. I was just recently eighteen, and guess what, I had hit the age of consent. 'Course, why I waited is a matter of personal insecurity...damn silly in hindsight, but you know how that works. So, I was gonna get laid. Pity, the b***h's idea of foreplay was a little rough.

Daegonna petted and teased the ferret, giggling softly, every now and then, when Leila nipped and nuzzled her hands. Iden's words made her tilt her head to one side. She looked genuinely puzzled. He'd waited? She couldn't remember how young she had been when she'd lost her virginity. Sickeningly young. She remembered that much. 'course it hadn't been under normal, consensual, happy circumstances. She was curious as to why he had waited. Most people who had the option of waiting didn't. Those who did it early wished they hadn't. As far as she knew, everyone ended up regretting their first ******** in the long run. But Iden's girlfriend had killed him. "That really ******** sucks. I'm sorry..."

The ferret had all the enthusiasm that Dae did. The fun and games were all encompassing, it seemed.
Iden, however, didn't seem too somber. He was still smirking contentedly, content to watch Dae and Liela play. For such a traumatic event, he certainly was rolling it off easily enough. No regrets.
Aye, it sucks. I didn't even get properly laid, either. b***h didn't even have that much decency. But I didn't really care...one moment I'm pinned to a wall, bleeding profusely all over her hot little tits, the next I'm in my apartment, covered in dirt, blood, and the like, without a scratch on me to show for where the blood had come from. Scared the s**t outta me. Spent the next two weeks running for fear of the law, because I'd thought I'd killed someone. Lucky me, the news told me otherwise...but hey.
Iden chuckled softly as he recounted the past events. It wasn't all the lovely little details, to be sure, but it covered the general gist of it. So he came to a pause, and sighed.
Not the most compelling story, I know. Can't say mine was all that noteworthy or impressive.

Daegonna listened thoughtfully, and was silent for several moments afterwards. "I'm sorry." She said at last. She didn't know what else to say. She was sorry he was dead. She was sorry his girlfriend had been such a b***h. Daegonna continued playing with Leila, focusing on that, to keep herself from getting depressed. "Your turn." She said, after another swallow of whiskey. "You get to ask me something personal. It's only fair." She hoped Iden would choose carefully. It was a limited time offer. Ordinarily, asking Daegonna personal questions earned you a bloody nose.

Iden waved his hand, putting off her apologies with a dismissive gesture. He already had his bottle back at his lips, and was downing another dose of his rotgut. Between shots, he managed a quiet chuckle and a few words.
Nah, you're not sorry, and you shouldn't be. The ones who SHOULD be sorry will be soon enough...wonder how Liela's doing right now. Kuni seemed to enjoy getting the new plaything.
For a moment there, Iden's grin was nothing more than blatant and purified malice. But it was a fleeting emotion...he was not the sort to hold a grudge, and he couldn't have his good spirits be brought down so easily.
I'll keep that offer in mind, though I think I'll take a raincheck. Besides, you look to be having a little too much for proper storytelling...

Daegonna chuckled softly. She didn't seem bothered by that flicker of malice. She seemed more interested in the fluffy little ferret. "I dunno if you have the option of a rain check." She said with a smirk. "And the best time to get the truth out of me is when I've been drinking too much to care about lying." It was the simple truth. Daegonna didn't talk about her past too much. If asked when she didn't want to talk about it, odds were good she would lie. Tipsy was the closest she got to 100% honest about her life.

Well, if you don't trust me enough to say normally, then it's not worth asking to begin with. You can tell me your life story when you want to, mate. I'm not partial to when, and I've got no reason to need to press.
In his good natured way, Iden respected her privacy. She had done mostly the same for him, so it was a natural response. He just leaned back, and took to drinking lightly as he pondered a good many ponderings.

Daegonna shook her head a bit. "It's not a matter of trust, Iden, it's a matter of whether or not I can bring myself to break years of habit and talk about it." She explained. "I trust you a helluva lot more than I trust most people. That's why I gave you the option to ask me something. That and the fact that I asked you a potentially painful and very nosy question." He could have asked her anything, it didn't have to be some deep dark secret. She just felt like she ought to repay his honesty with some of her own.

Bah. I know the feeling. Don't worry about it. If I need to know, then I'm sure you'll say something. 'Till then, no point in pushing.
He smirked, and kicked his feet off the table. His chair rocked back, then slowly tipped forward. The legs of the chair slammed back to the ground, leaving Iden hunched forwards with his elbows upon his knees.
Either way, I've got a case of RPGs I need to root through, and the delivery's pretty damn soon. So I think I'll take that raincheck.
He winked, and hauled himself to his feet. His bottle tipped one last time to Dae, then he made his way to the door, drinking lightly as he went.

Roan had ordered Iden not to stray too far. So, he had stuck local, and decided to crash at the empty old tavern nearby.
Since leaving the shrine, Iden had been weighed on heavily by a thought or two...most importantly, preparations for the upcoming war. God, Iden hated war. Battle was all well and good...he could fight battle after battle and enjoy it to the point where he would crave it. But war was an ugly thing...he had learned that all too long ago. Jobs in Africa, in Europe, even in the US had all shown just how nasty an affair it could be. So...long story short, if this "war" were to live up to the word, Iden would not be pleased at all.
But those were musings that had kept him busy as he had gathered the data stick, and returned to his apartment to grab his old laptop. The thing was dying, it was an old and battered system. He'd gotten a new one, anyways...so it was expendable. The wireless card had literally been ripped out, and he wasn't opening it with any external connections. Reading the data was to be its final task.
So, upon entering the tavern, Iden ensnared a bottle of beer, and sat back with his laptop on the table. He jacked the stick in, and accessed the information stored on it.
