is sax hard or easy to play

e.e seriously...that is one of the most...ridiculous questions to ask about ANY instrument. i'm not even going to dignify it with a proper answer.
Be nice

>_> well sorry...but seriously, if someone wants to know if an instrument is "easy" they can try it...instead of asking people who've spent a lot of time and dedication if it's easy. when i hear that, it seems more like they're saying "hey, i want to get really good really fast at this instrument."

also, they could ask something that's less aggravating..like "do you guys think i could learn to play the saxophone?" or "i want to learn the sax, will that be harder or easier than normal because i already play a different instrument."

Telling someone if an instrument is hard or easy to play is basically an impossible question, because each person learns differently. The most common thing I've heard about saxophone is that it's generally easy to learn, but getting a good sound is a completely different story.

Tenor sax is amazing! I played it for about a month in 8th grade, and hopefully I'll be able to play it for jazz band this year, too. Personally, I love it more than alto...in my opinion, all woodwinds sound better in lower ranges. =D

(When played correctly, yes, low woodwinds are amazing.)
But I still can't get enough of my alto. xd

Really? I find C# easier, F# is just too awkward. My favourite scale is E though. I really like Bb because I love the sound of the really low notes. (well, really low for alto at least)

No wait... F# isn't that bad, I still don't like it though. It was Eb I was talking about hating.

Ya, I was lucky, before band I took piano lessons (and still do) which made it a lot easier.

...you hate CONCERT Eb...or instrument EB O.o....concert Eb is like the easiest on alto xD

I mean Eb for alto, which is concert F#? >.> I just though, since this was a saxophone forum, I shouldn't have to do that.
Oh, sorry, embouchure is the wrong word. What people said after was right, about the larynx and overtone stuff.
Well the thing I don't like about F#+ (F# for alto) is I find it annoying going from Bb to B... but its still fun. All scales are fun. I don't like concert Eb, its boring. No sharps or flats. Although I like the sound of the low C.

it might be the saxophone forum, but even then there are still other keys for saxes (Eb, Bb, C, etc.) so it's still reasonable to assume that you could be talking about concert pitches.

also, no scale should be considered "boring" because of the amount of flats/sharps in the key signature. all scales still follow the "whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half." formula(for majors). so technically, they're all the same, except for which notes you use to complete the formula.

Actually, for our winter concert last year, the saxes had to play a low A...but since only one person could play it well (well-enough, at least), it had to be taken up the octave. But that's probably not a common occurrence. xd

If anyone hasn't noticed, I like to ask people questions! Yaaaay. xd What fingering do you usually use for Bb, and which one do you use for the F#/Gb scale? I usually use the normal fingering with the little key that's near the A...is there a name for that? I don't remember. >_> It's kind of awkward for playing the F# scale in sixteenth notes, but the other ways just make my brain explode. Using B and F makes me think that I should be playing a C (stupid oboe mindset), and using the side key with A just doesn't really work for me in a natural way.

For Bb? well for the higher ones I use the B key, and the smaller one right under it that you don't normally use. I used to use the B and F key to play it, but it didn't sound as good on my new sax, so now I use the other one as frequently as possible. (Its a lot easier to play the B and F fingering, so I use that too)

Omg. That's my least favourite scale! Ya for the F# scale, I use the easier fingering

I don't know how to do this, I'll try

It's called the bis key that does the alternate Bb fingering
There shouldnt be any difference in tone when you use either fingering.
It's just an alternate fingering depending on what your playing, either can be more convenient.

ok....that "harder" fingering is technically called the chromatic fingering and the "easier" fingering shouldn't evn exist just for the simple fact that it could make u evn more confused if ur doin chromatic scale patterns or going from Bb to notes like A. y not do the chromatic fingering is all i ask. it is more convenient honestly. just for the record, i'm not trying to shoot u down, person. btw i play tenor, baritone, and bass sax. BARI IS AWESOME!!!!!!

I play alto sax. All saxophone have the same fingerings so you could play almost any of them if you could play just one.
that is not true. u have to adjust embouchure according to the sax that ur playing. for example: it would b nearly impossible for some1 to go straight from baritone sax to saprinino sax and get a tone that is evn the slightest bit acceptable to an audience that has any clue wat they are actually listening to. trust me, i've tried

I guess.

You mean, TTSTTTS? I know, but my fingers just feel better playing the more complicated ones. Like.... would you rather play C major scale on the piano, or would you play Ab major. I love Ab major on piano because of the different flats.
With Concert Eb on alto, you just like, run the fingers up, but with other scales, you don't. I'm bad at explaining it, but you know what I mean. xP

actually, if you're doing it right you SHOULD be able to do that. the embouchure is THE EXACT SAME, just different size.
