Miyuki blinked at him before thinking about it, "I'm not sure yet. I don't know if mommy wants me to have lessons or not."
She paused and then added.
"If she does I'm going to ask if I can go to the apothecary."

Amalirahc beamed. "Oh, maybe I can go with you!" he said cheerfully. "I like Elarinya. She's awful pretty! And she's really nice. Besides, then I can see Uncle Celeb and Haldia and Alyarra again!"
He liked to see his baby cousin, even if she couldn't really do anything yet except eat, sleep and cry.

Miyuki nodded, "That's true, maybe if mommy says yes I'll visit them too later."
Really she wanted to know about all those things that Elarinya used.

"Well, they're in the same house, so if she says yes to one it's like she says yes to both, right?" Amalirahc grinned cheekily at Miyuki. He might look like Kelirahc, but he had the Aldrich's mischievous streak in him.
River was sitting nearby, and she craned her neck to peer over at her friends. "What are you planning over there?" she asked, eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Are you planning on going off without me again?"

Miyuki blinked, it was easy to forget sometimes that maybe River would want to come along.
"I think mommy might want me to learn something so I'm going to ask her if I can go over to the apothecary."

River looked thoughtful. "That would be interesting," she said slowly. "At home, Mama and I would sometimes help Ruque with his experiments, he did some stuff with potions and some stuff without the magic, I odn'[t know what he called it then. I always wanted to learn more, but Mama said not unless I could find a teacher who didn't blow himself up."
She looked at Miyuki curiously. "Do you think Elarinya blows herself up?"

"I don't think Elarinya deals with that kind of thing, I think she works with things that help make people get better," Miyuki replied thoughtfully.
She kind of knew what River was talking about and she was sure that wasn't what Elarinya dealt with.

That would just be neat, if they could learn something together - something other than languages, for once.

"How about you Amalirahc?" Miyuki turned to her friend, "Would you like to learn with us?"
She hoped so even though she knew that book learning and most learning wasn't really his thing, but who knew. Maybe he would find it interesting.

"I can try," Amalirahc replied. "That's the best I can do. But if I get really bored I can just visit Uncle Celeb and his family while you two learn."
For that matter, he was good at amusing himself. He usually didn't have playmates at all, after all, traveling all the time with his parents.

Miyuki sort of wished Amalirahc would learn something with them besides languages but he never seemed to have the patience for that. At least he would try.

"Do you think she knows how to make malek or drust?" Amalirahc asked curiously. "Mama won't let me ask Lady Alena because she's always busy with Shiloh, and I don't think Aethos-sola knows how to make them. But those are things that I want to learn how to make."
He had never had them himself, not having ever had need of them, but he had heard of them, and he was interested in learning more about them.

Miyuki mused on this, she didn't know.
"And even if he doesn't know how to make it, maybe she would if given the recipe."

"Oh, I should go ask him!" Amalirahc blurted, scrambling off the bench and running off to find Shiro.
River shook her head and sighed, leaning her elbow on the table and resting her chin in her hand. "He's so weird sometimes. Always in such a hurry, he never listens to anyone."
Though at least in a town as small as this one, he couldn't get into much trouble.

Had Miyuki been older she might have realized her friend seemed to have a short attention span, but she wasn't and so she didn't.
"He's always like I'm use to it," Miyuki giggled, "Most of the time."
Even she would admit there were days she wanted to whack him.
