That Salamander is very much in the style of what I planned on making, though I think my transport will be much boxier. Thank you.
And I'd just get, like everyone said, two troops and an HQ. That's about three boxes of Cadians, a Heavy Weapons Team box, and a HQ box. Or, alternatively, a Chimera in place of one of the Cadian Boxes. Or even better yet, one box of Cadians, a HQ Box, and that's it.
One box of Cadians nets you, should you place them as such, twenty Grenadiers, and you can always grab a blister or two if you want more Plasma or Melta action than what the HQ Box gives you. With your Scouts, Basilisk, and Sentinel, you'd easily have enough points for a 500 to 750 point game.
Plus, it's hella cheap and you can expand upon it by ditching a doctrine and playing your Cadians as normal grunts and not Grenadiers.

Youll have a good solid unit of marines for shooting that has some good customization potential.

best way to get a good sized guard force fast IMO
2 Cadain Battle Forces 1 Cadian Command Squad 1 Chimera 1 Box o Kasrkins 1 Blister o Lts. 1 Blister o Special weapons 1 One Commisars
this is pretty much how I built up my guard army I went from a 500 point forcre to a 2000 point force in about 3 weeks. I think I might have had another tank though

oh and 1 Box o Shock troops. I forgot about them that will give you one platoon with 2 squad and one with three. Unless you want to have one with two and a armoured fist squad. I also recommmend Kasrkin Special Weapons Blister as well as in keeping with most storm trooper tactics the melta and plasma come in quite useful

Plus, the kasrkin look Grade-A BAD a**.
That Sarge has more personality in one eyebrow than pretty much any other "human" sculpt in GW's lineup.

Reddemon I'm toying with a Mafia themed force. Catachans for my troopers, Armoured fists, "Limos", etc Only if they're all in pinstripe suits. It's REQUIRED BY LAW.

Make the Catachans the normal "soldiers" of the family and convert Necromunda Delaque members into sub bosses and capos, by giving them hats and shirts to go with the long coats.
