I think you should take Beserkers as troops really, or the most daemonically unstable troops you can get.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:41 am

Possible. But they're expensive and don't have a real lasting role without a hearty shooting core back behind them. Though, that said, I like using Berserkers in other cases. Though it breaks fluff, having Noise Marines in the back and shooting over the top with Sonic Blasters to cover a Berserker rush is always a good tactic. Although, if any of you read the page that Mort linked in the Space Marine thread, mobility is key.

Quick question, I remember that in 3rd ED the daemons had different codex entries, greater and lesser, for the daemons of the different gods, and now they only have a single entry for greater and lesser. So do we use those for any daemons we use, or do we use the entries from the Daemons Codex?

You use the entry stated in the chaos codex, not the daemon codex, those are two different codexes and armies now and they're mostly bitter enemies.

This is because Daemons serving under humans aren't as powerful as stand-alone daemons who despise the human worshippers of their gods.

Ok, but you can still use any model from the daemon's range, within reason, of course, to count as a lesser/greater daemon?

That still doesn't mean that you can't take a team of CSM and Daemons to a tourney! My friend Pat and I recently played in a 1250-each doubles tourney where our two lists were only allowed a single force-org chart. For his HQs, he took Epidemius and a Herald of Nurgle. My HQ was a Nurgle Bike Lord. All of our troops were Nurgle based (Plaguebearers, Nurglings, and Plague Marines). FOr our Heavy Supports, we got in a Devastator squad and two Soulgrinders. Our Elites were left entirely to me, so I took Nurgle Termies.

With Epidemius on the board, a Nurgle army becomes damned deadly. After you've killed 20+ models using units marked by Nurgle, all units with the mark of nurgle have a poisoned power weapon that wounds on a 2+. Now, here's the wonderful thing for my Plague Marines. After taking down only 15-19, units with Feel No Pain have the bonus on a 3+. In our match against Orks, there were some quick casualties that resulted in that 15 kill mark at the end of the first turn after their Weirdboy gave them a Waaaagh! closer to us. It was glorious, friends.

Aaaaanyway, Im' in the process of painting a Berserker Champion. Pics up by tonight.

You got to slam with the dead and let it go now

For your Chaos daemon list plan, I'd say it's a bit risky since the Daemon Prince can't carry an Icon. Personally (Entirely personal, by the way, you don't have to do this), I prefer to have as many icons as I can, not only for the bonuses, but also because I place my daemons where they are most needed, like right next to the objective my one unit is dying trying to get, or to defend an HQ model in danger.

Options are your friend when you play with Daemons in a normal Chaos Space Marine army. Just make sure that you have that ability to choose where those daemons are needed.

My plan, upon some re-thought, is to take four, eight man squads of CSM with an Icon and possibly a smattering of special weapons. They'll all get on to hoofing their way toward my enemy as I cruise the line with Predators and maybe a Dread. THen I'll zip in my Daemons once I get close enough. And it shall be good.

It's a good tactic. In the past, I've found that even a 5 strong squad of daemons can decently contest an objective against MEQ enemies.

That sounds pretty good, then. The only room for error is luck. You gotta get your men close fast just in case the daemons are summoned on the second turn. That's why I've found bikes to be useful for that, or even Raptures. Since they can assault the turn they deep strike, it's very nice to be right next to the enemy when they spawn.
Ah, that was a great game. biggrin

I agree. However, Daemons are spendy-esque. Odds are that if I was to take anything, I'd take three small squads of Raptors with icons and flamers to prevent against a charge. Then I'd fly them up and hide them in cover to get everything.

Yeah, that always works, too. ^^

In other news, last Friday I finally played another game against two other friends, all 1500 points, so a lot of people in the store would watch. Since 1500 points of mostly infantry Chaos, Godzilla/Swarm Tyranids, and Necrons is a lot of models. The Tyranid player's Termagaunts were about to charge my unit of Chaos Space Marines, but they fell just short of 12" to charge. Next turn, summoned Daemons in front of my troops, deep-striked my Sorcerer Terminator Lord, flew my Daemon Prince in next to the gaunts, and pounded them with bolters/spells/melee fury.

I think my list works in objective games. biggrin

But that's another way you can hope to use some Daemons, Caleidah. A wall of flesh for anyone charging or shooting. It's useful if you summon your Daemons in front of an expensive model.

Actually...that's a really good idea. Kind of like the new Conscript Wall strategies that've arisen for Guard players. It's a shame that Alpha Legion can't take Cultists anymore. Meh...I've gotten used to the fact that the new codex is decent.

I'm in love with that fact that Chaos Land Raiders (though only about 75% accurate with Daemonic Possession as compared to the Imperial accuracy of approx 80%) pick up the ability to fully ignore all Shaken and Stunned results without costing a single point more than their Imperial Counterparts, AND they still have their Infernal Spirit, which fires at BS2, no questions or modifications. Yup. Just remember that Daemonic Possession is, without question, one of the top vehicle upgrades in the game.

I just miss the different kinds of Daemons... Oh well, collecting Daemons will get me models for two separate armies biggrin As well as one ******** of Chaos for an Apocalypse force.

And yes, it really is the best upgrade I've seen ever in this game. I haven't had to use it, though, since my Land Raider is normally in the back unless I load it with Berzerkers or Terminators.
