Hi Im Eslin. Ive been playing Clarinet for 5 years. I am currently a junior at Space Coast Jr/Sr High in FL and i reside in the top band there. I am really nothing to brag about. I sit 6th chair. rolleyes I dont really care about that though. I love playing second. I was in the marching band but both of my knees are slowly detiriorating(sp?) and i am no longer able to march without being hurt. I still help with the band and attend games (when its marching season) i own two clarinets wood(concert) and plastic(marching) biggrin

Meru Lee a little bit ago, my mouthpeice for my clarinet broke [Le Gasp!! gonk ] anyways, I have another one now which is only a plastic one, but has been working pretty decently for me as a replacement. I have problems though...First off, my mouthpeice got thrown away on me and I have no clue what type it was, and second off..I need a new one!! Any suggestions on really good mouthpeices that sound good on a wooden Bb clarinet? ok, first off, what's the plastic mouthpiece ur usin right now? second off, compared to the plastic one, how would you want your new mouthpiece to perform? (i.e. easier to blow through, sound brighter, darker, more crisp, louder, softer...) third, what's the reed you're using?
baced off that, I can give ya a ballpark of what ya should get.Edited due to me mis-reading

whoever suggested using toothpaste must be crazy.....well atleast I find it absurd sweatdrop warm water works, and if you wanna save some you can clean both your mouthpiece and also wet some new reeds in there.
meru lee- I would suggest a B45...or maybe an m30 or m13...but even then if you get a wooden mouth piece it really doesn't help if its the right mouth piece...or if you don't break it in right
if there is any stores around you that are willing to let you try their mouth pieces and have like atleast 5 of each type, you should take that opportunity to try them out, because every mouth piece, even if its of the same type and brand, is different, trust me, I was stuck in a room for two hours the first hour going through 20 with my teacher and narrowing it down to three...and in the second hour I was picking between i believe 2 m30s and one m13....but in the end, i got the right one
so if your willing to spend time doing that then yes, you should
...so many people...stil i'm in awe :O
yeah so i just had my tanglewood audition it was a fine audition, i played mozart's clarinet concerto...i've had that piece forever so nothing bad happened, for brahms for a week then an audition i did swell, the excerpts, beethoven's sixth and mendehlsson's third went well :] i'm happy

i'm alex and i've been playing the clarinet for almost 4 years. it's fun but those high notes are hard to stick. marching is season is the worst cuz it's always cold at the football games. i'm always down the brass and maybe the flute section asking my friends to hug me and warm me up! lol well i go to hononegah high school. some of the songs that we played are my favorites! crazy train spider-man hey baby and the hey song
what are some of the other songs that everyone else is playing?

What do ya mean I'm crazy? I use at least a toothbrush to clean all my mouthpieces(all 5), it saves time, and puts use to old toothbrushes ^,^

ello, Im a clarinet player, been playing for oh, about 3 years, got the opportunity in 6th grade, and currnetly in 8th, and I was taught by the wonderful Mr.Brand for 1 1/2 years before i had to move, and now I have a new teacher and while no one particularly likes our woodwinds teacher, she does get the job done, and the other 2 teachers are great. I hope to be playing clarinet for many years, and my favorite type of music to play is dark and low, or marches. I am currently playing Encanto and a march and festivals are coming up in March so practice practice practice, lol

Yesterday in band, I was stuck between a NEW size 3 reed, and a broken-in 2.5 (Which is half-step lower than usual for me)... So the New one was hard to get clear/consistent sound through and I was using way too much air. So I switch to the older 2.5 (which was easier to get good sound through since it was broken-in)... the 2.5 has stopped working ENTIRELY!
So, with a loose Lyben ligature, I bent down next to my clarinet, and dug through the case for the three... and when I came back up, my ligature was gone!
And then all of the clarinets, and Mr. Helgert laughed at me when I pulled it out of my hair >.>;
