"I've been really meanin' t'talk t'you about Ro-- about all these rumors goin' round about us... I think it's time we cleared things up, don'you?"
Ari looked back up and nodded, the colour slowly returning. "Y-yes!" She said a bit louder than planned. The Fae took a moment to relax and tried again.
"I agree, I have been meaning to apologize for everything that has happened. It appears there has been a very unfortunate misunderstanding." Arillena offered a very formal and polite curtsy. She took a deep breath. Where should they start? The Changeling hadn't missed the hesitant 'Ro-'.
Ari offered a small, gentle smile. "In the time we have before Classes begin, I must first let you know that nothing beyond a new friendship has ever gone on between myself and Rory." She sighed, "Some things where taken so far out of context I took me a few days to fully understand it, myself."
Timidly but eagerly The changeling recalled to Marceline everything from the Catacombs (Purposely failing to mention her own...er...incident), to the Locker malfunction, to the food fight. Had she of been braver perhaps the chaos could have been avoided and maybe... She and Marceline could be friends. "I am truly very sorry..." Although for what she wasn't sure. She bowed her head again. "If there is anyway I can help patch things up, or... Or something..." She was running out of things to say. Her anxiety had her pouring everything she could remember out of her head in an attempt to clear up the confusion.
~~
Meanwhile on the steps in front of the school, Damyn- (The Guardian would decide if he wanted to play the part of a student after the Holiday Break.) -sat examining the odd hand mirror that had fallen, broken, and then been repaired the day Rory had collapsed from Ari's locker. The blank and non-reflective glass both intrigued him and worried him. He focused, was it still humming? Tapping his hooves on the concrete he tried to catch a reflection in the curious object.
Perhaps he would know more. Damyn decided. He stuck the Item in his pocket. In a POOF of silver smoke he transformed into a white cat, slipped past some students entering the building. Check on Ari. Find Rory. Whoever he ran into first.

"I 'ppreciate you tellin' me all this, Arillena. It's been so hard t'figure out what t'believe, y'know?" Marceline sighed, her eyes flicking up from the fae towards the smattering of monsters who'd stopped in the hallway; they were all eager to see the latest chapter of the Rorceline Scandal unfold before their very eyes, but as the Loa glared at them, they feigned disinterest and kept moving. "I'mean really... rumors tend to have an unlife'a their own in this school..."
Suddenly, a bright flash of light erupted from the wall of lockers, leaving stars in Marceline's golden eyes; Spectra Vondergeist, never one to miss the latest gossip, had extended her ghostly arm through the walls to snap a HEXCLUSIVE photo for the Ghostly Gossip. Marceline bit her lip, but remained hopeful that Spectra would at least spin the story correctly... a futile hope, all the same.
The first bell rang, warning the student bodies they only had a few moments to get to their classes before...
"DEADTENTION!!!" She could hear Mr. Hack growl in her mind...
"Hey, maybe we can talk 'bout this farther at lunchtime... you can sit with me, what d'ya say?"
Doing her very best to not react to Spectra's suddenly appearance and disappearance...Arillena managed a small smile. "Okay," She nodded. A tiny ray of hope in her body told her that maybe things would turn out okay in the end..
"I suppose I shall see you then."
The Fae Curtsied again before turning- looking both ways in the hallway- and casting a timid smile back at Marceline before fading back under her invisibility spell and dashing off to her class.
Knowing that She had nearly no reason to be afraid of talking to Marceline anymore- She was still afraid of getting stopped in the hall and just wanted to get this day over with...

Buried somewhere under a mound of blankets...
Someone was banging on Harry's doomroom door. He didn't care. He delivered such a vicious kick to the BOJANGLES when Woestock failed that nothing mattered. On to Rawr Street to become an entrail trader or whatnot.
"Go 'way...."
Someone was going on about a Howliday Ball and Santas with secrets. Then, a slip of paper was shoved under the door. Jareth fluttered over, picked up the paper with his beak, and delivered it to the blanket mound. It was a reminder that as the son of the Erlking, Harry was required to appear at the Howliday Ball at the Monster Embassy. Furthermore, Layla LaMia had entered Harry into something called a Secret Santa and he was assigned Arillena FaeDathanna. Harry moaned and covered his head.

"See ya!" Kai waved to the goblin that had promised to delivery Harry's Secret Santa Claws selection to him. Kai wondered why Harry wasn't at school. Maybe because he was so new, he didn't have to take final hexams for the scaremester?
'Lucky stiff!' Kai thought to himself, feeling a little dread for the upcoming Clawculus hexam. At least he didn't have Mad Science till next Scaremester. Kai scanned the hallway to see if there were any other monsters on Layla's list he could grab and draw names for the present hexchnage at the Howliday Ball before classes fully began.
"Marceline!" Kai spotted his Loa bluddy in the sea of monsters. It looked like Arillena was with her too - at least until Arillena blinked out of hexistance right before Kai's eyes.
He didn't know she could do that! Somebluddy should have told Invisi Billy there was another candidate for Disappearing Club.
"Marcy!" Kai waved again, and this time managed to elbow his way through the crowd just as what appeared to be Spectra vanished into a nearby wall. "Hey!"
"Hey Kai!"Marceline greeted him brightly. Whatever had just happened seemed to have put her in a good mood. Kai was blissfully ignorant of whatever drama may or may not have occured....he was the one monster in the school who didn't follow the Ghostly Gossip."What's up?"
"Secret Santa Claws!" Kai replied, checking his iCoffin quickly for updates from Layla on who she'd already managed to get to draw names. "For the Howliday Ball at the embassy on Friday? I'm helping Layla get people to draw names."
Kai held out a skull with its top removed and a bunch of slips of paper in it. Layla had messaged him to remove some names (including his own!), but a lot still remained.
"Go ahead and draw one!"

Glen da West
"Glen!" Rory found his coven cousin near the entrance of the school (and, he noticed, comfortably far away from where he spotted Marceline in a huge clot of monsters). Glen was holding a small chest with Egyptian markings on it. That was kind of unusual. Rory almost immediately forgot his quest to ask Glen for advice about approaching Marceline. "What'cha got there?"
Glen's eyes suddenly got wide and he pulled Rory off to the side of the hallway, away from the main hustle and bustle.
"DON'T tell my mom!"He told Rory, a finger over Rory's lips. Rory raised an eyebrow.
"...Okay." Rory pushed the finger away from his face."Don't tell her what?"
"I mean, it's not HEXACTLY against the 'no magic while you're grounded rule,' technically..."Glen rambled on, clutching the glyph-covered box."Handling magical objects isn't the same as casting magic yourself after all. Any lay-monster can USE a magical object, so it's kind of a loophole in the whole grounding thing. Isn't that what you learn about in Murk Trial Club? Finding loopholes in laws?"
Glen raised his eyebrows at Rory, who cleared his throat nervously.
"N-no, not hexactly, I mean, if you're not following the SPIRIT of the law but still the word of the law, it's legal but it's not necessarily ethical and what does this have to do with the box?" Rory was starting to feel nervous."What's in the box, Glen? What's in the box?!!"
Glen grinned and opened the lid.
"Talismans! From my good bluddy Cleo's personal collection. Since I can't cast any spells during the SKRM match tomorrow night, I need SOME kind of edge. I'd hate to be a liability to the team, especially if there's a water branch on the track again."Glen looked around nervously again. "But I don't know if my mom would agree that using magical talismans isn't covered under my being grounded. So maybe it's best that she doesn't even have to worry about thinking about it, you know?"
Rory rubbed the back of his head. As usual, talking to Glen had ended up far more complicated than he'd bargained for.
"I don't know...what kind of talismans are we talking about here? Nothing that's going to be considered cheating, is it?"
"Hmm...don't think so..."Glen perched the box on his left arm in between the two of them and started rifling around with his right hand. "This one, I'm pretty sure makes people obey your every whim, so maybe I shouldn't use that one...this one curses your enemies to zits for eternity...I think this one rains down locusts...probably best not to use that on a roller maze track. It could get squishy."
Rory leaned in to look inside the box. There was one statue in the corner that looked like it had been broken and hastily glued back together again. He reached in and pulled it out.
"What's this one?"He showed it to Glen. It was a small sandstone sculpture of a person with a face on either side.

Little Lin McGearloch hobbled along the hallway, en route to where Atomica and Gryff were surely waiting for him at Gryff's locker. Atomica had arrived at school with Lin on the school hearse, while Gryff had flown in, as was his norm. If you for one second believed Gryff would lower himself to ride the school hearse then well...!
Of course, once Lin and Atomica had stashed their books and lurches into their lockers and Lin had delivered Gryff's books to, well, Gryff, Lin had to run back outside. Why? Well to retrieve Gryff's usual mourning coffincino from the troll vendor outside on school grounds. With the coffincinno in one claw, and a scare claw in the other, Lin hurriedly cut through the crowds, and even managed to bob and weave through a zombie flash mob (oh the perks of being short!), when he heard his name called...
"Lin! Aloha! Over here!"
Lin skidded to a halt and was promptly swatted aside by some rogue monster heading toward first feariod class, and had to take hextra care not to drop his treat, and ESPECIALLY not Gryff's drink! Who would be calling HIM? Didn't sound like Gryff, who would never utter the word 'Aloha', and he just turned Atomica's vocal programming before bed last night so her voice wouldn't be THAT deep. So who...
A skull was suddenly in front of his face and Lin jerked, startled!
"Ah!"He yelped, then looked up and found the skull was in the hands of Kai Merha, former member of the Trouble Tribe. Beside Kai was that vivacious ghoul, Marceline who was about ready to dip her own bony hand into said skull.
He fanned himself with the scare claw."Oh bloody... don't DO that!"
Kai blinked with a crease of confusion etched on his brow. Do, what?
"Um, yeah. Sorry about that." Kai spoke, despite not knowing what he was apologizing for. That's just the kind of manster he was, after all. "Hey, you're going to the ball Layla is throwing this Frightday, right?"
"Well, Gryff said he'd think about it."
"But, you're going?"
".... Gryff said he'd think about it."
Kai paused, and exhaled. This kid really needed to hextend his circle of fiends. He held the skull out to Lin again and said, "Let's just say all three of you are going, you, Gryff and Atomica. We're drawing names for the Secret Santa Claws."
Lin looked down at the skull, then up at Kai with one eye squinted almost completely shut in a dubious manner...
"Secret Santa, huh? What's the catch?"
"Catch?" Kai blinked. What kind of catch could there be in a Secret Santa Claws drawing? He shrugged and answered, "Err... you buy someone a present, and then you get one in return?"
That certainly made Lin's eyes light up!"A present!? Me? Really!?"And he promptly shoved the bear claw between his fangs to hold onto it while he plunged his claws into the skull filled with little slips of paper, before Marceline could do the same. He rifled around for a brief moment when he pulled a slip out and looked at the name...
...And shook his head.
"Uh uh."And he shoved the slip back into the skull and fished around for another and pulled it out, looked at it...
"Nope!"And he put IT back in and went for a third choice. Third time's the charm, right? He pulled it out and looked at it, and his face lit up for a nano second... then fell and shoved it back in for another try...

"That's not how you...you don't...hey!" Kai pulled the skull up, over his head and far out of Lin's reach. "Whoever you have in your hands there, that's who you're buying a gift for."
Kai held the skull out again for Marceline - also above Lin's head.
Astrid pushes her body against the school doors to make her way in as she flips through a Monster High brochure. "I may as well make the most of my time while I'm here..." She says under her breath, "That mirror kid said this is a great place. I guess there's only one way to find out."
Astrid decides to stretch her wings as she walks down the hallways. Wrong move. The minute her cosmic, galactic feathers shines, she catches the attention of just about every nameless monster in the premises. She grunts in irritation as they hoard and gawk into her celestial wings. "Um... Back off. Pretty please?" she says in the nicest tone she can pull. It was not use. There was absolutely no chance they were going to let her go.

Lin gave Kai the ol' "stink eye", which -- had he been his Nan -- would have fried the general neighborhood radius. He pulled the scare claw from his fangs, a big bite having been chomped off, and muttered,"Fine!" He hexpertly flipped the slip of paper open and read,"Damyn Faolan -- who!?"

"What's this one?"He showed it to Glen. It was a small sandstone sculpture of a person with a face on either side.
"Hm, which one?"Glen pried his attention away from a random amulet that resembled a cat, and saw the one in question that had drawn his cousin's curiosity. His face lit up in wonder and amazement and he cooed,"OoOoOoOOo!"
He leaned in for a closer look and extended his fingertips to hexamine the piece from his chopping bluddy's family collection.
"Oh, it's broken."Glen mourned, hoping it was like this when Cleo packed the items for Nefera to deliver. He didn't want her to think that HE broke it!"Cleo must have put this one in here by mistake..."
And no sooner did Glen's hand touch the artifact than it started to glow, a glow that spread to both witch cousins then faded aside...
Glen said,"What was that?"In Rory's voice and Rory said,"We must have triggered a... a...."In Glen's minchkin-esque voice...
Both cousins looked at each other and swallowed hard.
"Uh oh...."

"Outta da way!"A construction lurker pushed some students aside as he closed the door to the second floor Ghouls Bat-room and locked it."Dis batroom is closed!"
"WHAT?!" Several ghouls looking for a chance to powder their faces cried out. "WHY?!"
"Dere's a malfunction in dis batroom. Can't let anymonster in dere till we figger out da problem."
"Hex-CUSE me, but where do you hexpect us to go? The ghouls batroom on the first floor is closed, too." Cleo de Nile pointed out, highly unamused."They said that the mirrors were malfunctioning. How is that even a thing?"
"I don't answer questions like dat. Ain't my job."The huge troll replied, shrugging his massive purple shoulders. "But dat's da same problem here. Mirror malfunction."
"If the mirrors are broken, just get new ones maybe?" Clawdeen Wolf suggested, more than a little testy she couldn't check out her scare and makeup before running to first feariod.
"Dey ain't broken. Dey just malfunctioning." The troll replied."No reflections of nothing. Just blank. Gotta talk to the Headmistress."
The troll lumbered off. Cleo sighed and rolled her regal eyes.
"UGH. Weird." She turned to her ghoulfriends."Well, there's no ghouls batroom on the first floor, and no ghouls batroom on the second floor. Do you know what that means?"
"It means we make like bear and go in woods?" Abbey Bominable asked. Cleo's head lolled with disgust.
"NO, it means that we ANNEX one of the boos batrooms. Prepare yourselves, ghouls! We tread into territory NO ghoul has ever dared tread before."
Cleo rolled up her wrapping-inspired sleeves and led the charge towards the boos batroom. Down the stairs and throughout the hallway, the sound of VERY surprised boos shrieking and running could be heard throughout the school.

"Damyn Faolan -- who!?"
"Damyn? That's Arillena's familiar. Or her brother. Or her guardian. One of those things...not quite sure which." Kai replied. He'd 'met' Damyn, sort of, during their excursion to Luna High. He thought it was pretty likely Damyn was going to go to Monster High next scaremester, so he was glad the fae boy was participating in the gift hexchange.
Kai's trail of thought was derailed, though, as a New Ghoul walked by the cluster. She had wings that were almost hypnotically fascinating.
"Guhh...." Kai's mind emptied as he stared at the new ghoul's wings, his jaw gaping and his left eye twitching slightly. It may have been a joke among his friends that Kai was the MOST easy-to-hypnotize/most suggestive/most easy to give amnesia-inducing head trauma to of all of his friends, but that joke had its roots in some truth.
And the new ghoul's wings were UTTERLY ENTRANCING.
The skull being held up to Marceline drooped as Kai's attention was utterly distracted from her and his head cranked around to stare as hard as he could at the new ghoul.
"Who.....who is THAT?" Kai managed to squeak out as the new ghoul tried to brush past the mass of students.

Following the obvious trail of Ari's invisibility spell Damyn the Cat sneaked his way around busy students- Till he heard someone say his name. The cat turned down a hall and approached Marceline, Kai and Lin.
Just a few feet from them- POOF he returned to his normal form, still clutching the faulty mirror in one hand.
"..." He nodded as a silent greeting. The stoic Fae turned to Kai.
"...?"
"Do you know where I can find either Arillena or Rory?"
He asked silently. The Chimera's attention seemed to be distracted so he turned to the others.
The trail of her spell seemed to head down the other hall, but judging by the atmosphere he knew she was alright. Damyn stashed the mirror back in his pocket.
Something felt off about the rest of the school. The familiar sense that something was hiding made him uneasy- and linking mirrors to it only resurfaced old memories that definitely did not help.
Final Hexams were a Monster's worst nightmare. At least, that was what she believed. Though she spent most of her free time studying, Vanna was still not looking forward to this day. What if she forgot something? What if she went into class all pumped, only to find herself blanking completely the moment the test was laid in front of her?
She sighed deeply and shook her head, disturbing the sleeping Pan on her head, who let out a low chitter of annoyance. She gave him an apologetic smile, reaching up to pat his head. "Sorry about that, Pan." She spoke up gently, making her way towards the front doors of the school.
