yep. now termies do a better job of being oblitorators than oblits themselves!

also, i dont think he was calling me bollocks, i think it was just an expression of annoyance, eg "rob, you just failed your RE GCSE" "oh bollocks" (it was the only exam i did fail though. and being RE, i dont need it anyway, it was just a number to put on my CV if i had passed it

I disagree with the "Not worth in a 5th ed army" part, the lists I've seen that have wreaked most havoc is lists with oblits, and they've been the main mayhem causers...

If used properly anything is deadly, stop comparing stats and such with now and then, instead see the opportunities the units have, take grots for orks for example, they suck now more than ever, still gamers use them for several stuff, like cover the other orks, objective claiming etc.

I'm pretty sure that oblits can cause the right amount of damage, or draw fire attention towards them.

my gaming group has 3 chaos players (not including myself) 2 of which have over 10years experience... but all we find oblits do is draw fire to themselves, which is a bit expensive for a unit like that...

If so they're doing it wrong!

Do it right!

...

Don't ask me what's right, go to a real chaos dedicted forum and ask them. mrgreen

i havnt got any oblits myself. and i recently sold most of my army to AJ to bulk out his Rene-guards. (renegade guard) as most of my chaos was renegade gaurdsmen. i also sold him my Chaos LR and most of my chaos marines (i kept my renegade beserker ogryn sculpt) but i got a fair 'ole amount of cash for the rest, so im happy

The fact that they're a 75 point deepstriking Multimelta / Twinlinked Meltagun in and of itself makes them worth it.

what is a better unit for fast attack bickers or raptors
PostPosted: Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:22 pm

Really depends on what you want to do.

Bikers are good for all around work. Two special weapons in a squad, a Champion with his own upgradeable weapon set, T5, Twin Linked Bolters, BP/CCW, Frag, and Krak make them very tough nuts to crack.

Raptors are good as fast response units with the added bonus of being able to Deepstrike and move over the top of cover instead of having to ride around/take Dangerous Terrain.

Both groups have nearly identical weapons choices (Raptors can take Plasma Pistols to replace Bolt Pistols) and so it really comes down to what you need and what kind of points you have available. At the cost of two plasma guns each, raptors are a hell of a lot cheaper than the (three plasma guns +3) point Bikers. The toughness of the Bikers tends to make up for their points and I've had squads of bikes take down far more than their costs in anything else simply because of their survivability.

I personally prefer bikes. They can turbo-boost around the field and pick up a 3+ Invulnerable and use the quick speed to hold/contest objectives at the last minute.

from what u have told me i think i will go with Bikers over the raptors

With the newest version of the Chaos Marines codex, a lot of my armies are kaput and now in need of serious overhauling if I'm ever to use them. Aside from my many gripes to how boned my 1k Sons are, a big problem that I have is with my Alpha Legion. Before the way I ran them was as Lost and the Damned, using Traitor Guard with a squad of Marines, and a squad of Cultists. Now with Lost and the Damned being Apocalypse, it sort of ruins what I envisioned(just not fond of using Apocalypse in general). Now the guys from GW let me know that I can still run Traitor Guard with rules presented in one of the Forge World books, but I don't know which one. Does anyone know what book it's in or have a PDF of their rules anywhere? If anyone has recommendations on what to do now that I essentially have to regear my concept for my Alpha Legion?

Use the Alpha Legionnaires as regular Chaos Marines?

That's the best advice I can give you. Legions are no more, so they have no special rules there.

You can't play them with infiltrate anymore as regular marines because none of the Characters give such army-wide and Traits are gone.

Sorry to say this, but your Alpha Legionnaires are going to be stuck as regular CSM's until / if the Legion Codex comes out. And then you can be ready to expect a necessary special character to run the Legion.

I wanted to start a Thousand Sons army. Other than their superiority in ranged combat and taking hits, I like their backstory the best, and how they aren't really Chaos per se. I was thinking Night Lords, but eh....

In Apoc games and campaigns, Thousand Sons are more likely to join with other races in the quest for knowledge. At least those under Ahriman's(sp?) command.

As far as the Thousand Sons "working" with other races, the only way that I believe that would happen would be for them to be willing slaves to Ahriman or have been bound via sorcerous means.

Come and die with the zombies in the moonlight
They become alive when you die, you cannot fool them
You got to slam with the dead and let it go now
See a thousand hallowed eyes stare into the night

The Thousand Sons really are more likely to work with other races, but then again, I doubt another race would even think about working with Chaos, considering they all hate it. Even the Dark Eldar. Still, the Thousand Sons could perhaps put a warband of a weaker minded race under their control for a battle or two, or the other race in question would just REALLY need the help, to the point that they'd give away ancient texts the Thousand Sons would want.
Probably a bad deal on their part, since they'd die after the Thousand Sons were done with them.

It's getting dark so prepare to die
They're coming after you
It's getting dark and you can't get away
They're coming after you

Yeah. If they've seen Ahriman and have given him some information, it means that they'd likely have access at more information. Thusly, the people would indeed be killed once the Thousand Sons were done helping them.

Given how CSM can technically break the Force Organization slot wide open by taking multiple squads of Summoned Daemons and Summoned Greater Daemons, I'm thinking about taking a Daemon Heavy list. Daemon Princes as HQs, Possessed CSM in the Elites, and Defilers in my Heavies. The troop core would likely be squads of CSM with Heavy Bolters or Autocannons. Thoughts?
