He held on, thinking of all the times he had to walk the Mayor's jacking purse dogs. This was little different, but at least the view was better. Vek's raspy laugh would linger unpleasantly as they exited.

Christof watched her go, his brows furrowed with an increasingly dark expression that was only broken by Junko's sudden hug. He glanced up at the dismissal, looking at her as though she were crazy. With a grunt, he patted his chest and motioned to the room before making a motion as though sweeping with a broom.

He needed dull tasks. Craved dull tasks. And didn't trust anyone else to unwire the decorations.

Malodore closed its eyes briefly as the kiss washed over it; it sent her back a wordless wave of affection. It would be here, waiting for her...

And then it opened its eyes and watched her go. It took a step forward, but no... no. Following her would only lead to something worse, and it didn't want to provoke Vek further. But as soon as she was out of sight, the plague doctor sagged. "I... si, truly it was that Bogeyman, Vek, who brought her... but she contacted me, so..." It opened its beak in a small smile, but now that she was gone all its exhaustion seemed determined to crash down on it with terrible force. "I am glad, though... my thanks to all of you..."

It closed its eyes once more. It would go the opposite way, so there was no chance of running into them again. "I am very tired," it said, quietly. "I think I will return to my room... grazie mille, my friends."

It slowly crossed the room, picking its way through the remaining glass, to the other door. It hesitated for a moment, looking back, then pushed the door open and walked through.

It was going to be a long night...
